Galaxy S3 bootloader unlocked but can't install any recovery....Want to try CM 5.1 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I was able to root using towelroot and able to use it as a rooted phone.
when I try to put custom rom like CM12 to put custom recovery programs...it won't let me.
any solution or work arounds?
I have attached some photos for info.
Thanks in advance.

You are on 4.4.2 NE1. Your bootloader is not unlocked, it is locked. Furthermore, your bootloader cannot be unlocked. Therefore you cannot install any kind of custom recovery or AOSP based ROMs like CM. You are limited to safestrap and possibly 2 or 3 ROM choices at most. The unlock symbol on your screen in your first picture does not mean your bootloader is unlocked.

You can use SafeStrap to dual boot or to replace the stock rom with either of the other two roms that will work with the i535 on the NE1 firmware. Before installing SafeStrap you will need to be rooted and to have busybox installed. I gave links to SafeStrap and other things you need to read before proceeding in this post.

You are most welcome. That's the ROM I put on my i535, purchased with NE1 already on it.

[Q] CM11 on SCH-I535 with NC1? Can it be done?

I have the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 on verizon (SCH-I535) that has the OTA NC1 installed. Is there any way to flash CM11 on this device? I have been searching all over to find a way but so far no dice. It sounds like with NC1 the boot loader is permanently locked. It seems also that CM requires me to first flash something like Clockworkmod Recovery. I have not yet found a way to do this. I have played with Heimdall and Odin. I always get an error when downloading.
Can this be done or am I stuck because I am on NC1?
Please educate me. Thanks!

You are stuck with a locked bootloader unfortunately. So no AOSP Roms.

You can use saferoot found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 and then use something like titanium backup to freeze or remove.

Yes. Sorry! Odin ML1 and then use saferoot. The NC1 update doesn't do anything for the US.

How to get Custom Recovery on rooted G2? [Noob]

So I recently rooted my G2 to remove the bloatware apps and maybe install CM 11. I downloaded ROM Manager and I tried to install the CWM recovery through there but it seems like it's not doing anything. Every time I press "Reboot into Recovery", it restarts into the stock recovery (I'm assuming). And this recovery doesn't have an option to install from .zip, which means I can't install the CWM recovery. It only has install from SD card, which doesn't have anything in it, install from cache and install from adb. I have CM 11 running on my nexus 4 ( I used the installer) and that has a CWM recovery so I know what it looks like.
Am I doing something wrong or missing a step? Is there another way to do it?
Thanks
what firmware does your phone currently have on it? That will determine what method you will need to use to get a recovery.

That was exactly what I needed. The issue with stock KitKat is the bootloader is locked and the way we got around it with JB has been patched. There are some amazing people though that found a way to downgrade the bootloader and kernel to get around this. You can find the very simple and easy to use app over here. I recently used it myself and it literally takes about 30 seconds to do and you will have TWRP 2.7 when its all done

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 Clockworkmod 6.0.4.5 Reboot into Recovery Problem

I am new to this so please be gentle! Lol. I am running 4.4.2 and have already rooted the phone. I verified that it is rooted using Root Checker. I installed Rom Manager and installed ClockworkMod Recovery and all seemed to be okay. When I click on Reboot into Recovery in Rom Manager app I receive a message stating "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help." Also at the top of the screen it says SECURE FAIL: KERNEL .
I can cancel the Recovery and restart the phone and the phone works properly but I cannot enter the Recovery to do a nandroid backup with my ultimate call to flash custom roms to gain battery life and delete bloatware etc. Any assistance is appreciated. :crying:

You can't run a custom recovery like cwm, twrp and so on running 4.4.2 NE1. The only custom recovery you can run is safestrap. As far as custom roms you can no longer run those either only BL (bootloader locked) roms. No CM or anything similar

Thank you for your reply. Like I said, I am a novice. Just so I understand, this means I am stuck with the Kit Kat 4.4.2 operating system? So rooting the phone only gave me the ability to delete unwanted bloatware? What if I reverted to 4.3...can I use custom recovery and custom roms then?

Deleting the rom manager does not remove the cwm that doesn't work so I can't get into recovery. If I use safestrap, does that replace cwm and then I can boot into recovery ?

Are you rooted on a lollipop rom
Yes. OptimalROM 5.0 by BigBot96. It's working great.
I am a flash junkie from way back, and I thought I was 'done', what with this complex locked bootloader safestrap business. Is this light at the end of the tunnel really is a train? I'm a wreck for flashing different flavors. The Odin back and forth on kernels has soured my interest in the whole flashing thing.
I'm interested. This sounds like a good workaround.

Gotcha. I just assumed it was an updated version and flashed it. (S5 was on BOC4) and seemingly worked fine. Looked @ both zips, nothing jumped out at me as different. Except md5. Lol
Thank you for responding. You have to be a busy man, and super talented to do all you do with the locked BL. Amazing. Half the ROMs I see have your name. I'd love to see what you could do w/o restrictions.

It will work fine on lollipop rom Basically the only difference is the V2 doesnt put the apks in there own folders inside of system/priv-app folder. On kitkat the apk were not in seperate folders and would not read the apps if they were in their own seperate folders. I then figured if you were on kitkat you already would have safestrap installed to be able to flash a zip. So basically I decided to leave the zip as is so the safestrap zip if flashed on kitkat rom would leave the apk's in their own folder causing the system not to read them therefore causing your original safestrap apk to not be overwritten. Basically what im saying is I wasted my time making V2 but if you flashed it you are perfectly fine!

Thank you in advance.

Please wait for confirmation before flashing this on your N960U/U1 device.
Seeing things like this and getting excited. But poking through the zip it seems this is something you already need a custom recovery to be able to flash anyways sadly
You need a custom recovery installed for this too work..
Will Safestrap work on Note 9?
There is no way to install it with out custom recovery literally unless some one made it where u can flash it with Odin
Clearly the OP has neglected to do basic research on the Snapdragon Note 9. There's absolutely zero information on the firmware version, kernel or any other information about this ROM. In my opinion, this is against forum rules and should be removed for obvious reasons. This is the kind of things we DON'T want the public attempting to flash on the $1,000.00 phone. Most everybody is aware of the locked bootloader and inability to flash custom zips but for somebody to post a flashable zip with no testing whatsoever is just reckless and shouldn't be allowed because people are too trusting and will try to flash it.

No Odin you might have to use fastboot commands to flash this. But I am sure it would not work for us..
and why is this not locked down yet?
Is it fake?
There is no way to flash it without custom recovery or fastboot nor do us devices have a unlocked bootloader so it will not work at all unless unless u have a device that has one of the options or all 3
Do we flash this via odin?
I am reading and seeing this may not work? Do we have any confirmation this will work? on the n960u?
