Marshmallow 6.0.1 8/03/16 ASOP D2203 - Sony Xperia E3

if it blows up, bricks or starts a zombie apocalypse.
I am a developer BUT I am not a kernel/android rom dev!
Pure AOSP Marshmallow
This all started because I wanted to get my wife a cheap android phone that would stay up to date with the latest android. A cheap phone with SD storage and Marshmallow seemed like a great combination hence the E3. Sony has been great at supporting the developer community by providing Marshmallow binaries and working on open source components.
I am providing this rom in my spare time and all of what I have done can be done by anyone with AOSP code. Any changes I make I will endeavour to release to github should I stop developing this rom.

Guide to flashing
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img --> if it doesn't work first time
If you are having booting issues flash the cache image as well.
you also probably want the newest recovery of TWRP or CWM
repo with all the kernel patches I added to the E3 if someone wants to build it for themselves

Changelog

boot image update
new unified display driver with flamingo specific fixes for display not turning on (seems to affect some devices worse than others)
19/03/2016
6.0.1 Release - updated boot image should get rid of display issues. Updated system image with security patches
New releases are in the downloads section and dated.
8/03/2016
6.0.1 Release, thank you all for waiting, stock build first. I really need to learn how to do nice release notes..
updated blobs which should mean a more stable build. Also we are getting closer to getting a working camera.
17/11/2015
Two new system builds
with modem files and one without
25/11/2015
Phone has arrived in the country should receive it soon
this will mean I can continue work on this device, I cannot just take my partners phone and mess with it unfortunately ;-D
26/11/2015
Phone arrived, have got a working system image, am uploading a backup from twrp now.
26/11/2015
Yay I have a working system.img for you all to flash and I put some extra effort to add a nice boot animation
I have also added the stock kernel(boot.img) as it seems to be more stable than erikcas one at the moment.... possibly
I've also attached the bootanimation should you want to use it on stock or whatever. Is not mine, can't remember the person who made, it, was posted to reddit/r/android if I find it again I'll attribute it.
02/12/2015
New boot.img with improved io performance, you should see significant improvements if you've experienced lag. Thanks goes to @vinay for his work on the flamingo kernel. One small change removes CRC checking which improves performance by up to 30%

Hi Guys am in the process of producing a new kernel and ROM with ZRAM support. Hoping to get something in your hands soon.

Hi guys,
I've brought my partner an E3 and compiled marshmallow for it from ASOP, I will post links as soon as I can.
Anyone game to test?
As usual, the usual disclaimers apply. I won't be blamed if it does anything weird.

It makes a tutorial on installing via please ASOP ? :crying:

can this apply to D2202?
yes, this will better if you tell us for what variant of E3 in this Marshmallow thread

Will it work on D2212??? Which is your variant???
I have downloaded all the img files. Give step wise tutorial for flashing. What is the ramdisk.img and ramdisk-recovery.img and how to flash them???

Ramdisk is probably kernel. One without and one with recovery. Everything is flashable from fastboot

Okay, means this rom will work on D2212 /D2202 as they don't have seperate recovery partition

OK i´m downloading it i will write here and post screens if you want

system.img is too large ...

Maybe for new bootloader? If i good remember for E3 here was 2 bootloader types

Can you please create a quick installation guide and/or requirements (bootloader), i will be pleased and please can you tell us the bugs

Do i need to flash ramdisk OR ramdisk-recovery OR recovery OR all of them??? I am confused

this is no gonna boot at all. were is kernel?
and sony upload stuff for compiling rom,s for lte varriant,s so test it on d2203.
and system.img is bigger than our system partition it could mean you compiled rom for a different device.

Sorry uploading kernel now. I followed the sony developer world instructions for the D2203 variants
http://developer.sonymobile.com/kno...aosp-marshmallow-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/
please be nice this is my first attempt at supplying a rom. Am re-compiling again as I think your right I misread and compiled for the D5503 instead of D2203, I don't have the device yet as I am waiting for it to be delivered.
I have messed around with building roms before but haven't handed them out.

Again for D2203 and not for D2212/D2202. I think i must throw this phone, nothings gonna happen.

I didn't upload source to github yet, my Internet connection is too slow.
Source is available on Sony Developers site.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/dow...es/open-source-archive-for-build-18-0-c-1-13/
I can upload modules, will you test them? I have KitKat installed so I can't test every part of the kernel.
@Garcia98 I uploaded all kernel modules. Link in the first post.
And found this, possible fix for our WiFi (Z1 has identical problem I guess)

First of all sorry for not having answered yesterday, I forgot it xD
As I suspected, in kernel modules there's no WiFi module (wlan.ko), I think that that's the reason why WiFi is not working.
wlan.ko is a link to pronto/pronto_wlan.ko btw
Kitkat kernel with CWM is ready. Confirmed working, I tested on my own device.
But WiFi doesn't work again.
I will try to somehow compile pronto_wlan.ko module.

I didn't take any logs because I run out battery, now my xperia is charging. Tomorrow morning I'm moving to another city so it will take me a while to investigate this issue.
It would be different if someone could just take a logcat for me :<

OK, don't worry.
I keep thinking that this problem is related to modules, Tianchi kernel source code doesn't have any change regarding Pronto nor WiFi modules, however I asked to Abhinav if they have had any kind of problems with WiFi.
BTW, did you compile kernel with toolchain and then packing zImage with ramdisk into boot.img or did you run make bootimg command in Android source code?
Works on D2302 also!

I compiled zImage with linaro toolchain, then I generated dt.img and used Ramdisk from stock and put everything together using mkbooting binary.
When you download sony source it doesn't have option make bootimage because it doesn't have device tree and so on. Just pure kernel source and externals.

Hello and good news everybody!
Sailfish OS on Motorola Moto-G 2013 (falcon), this is a community port!
Status, download, installation...
Sailfish OS is a GNU/Linux based mobile operating system, which is gesture-driven for the ease of use. It runs natively as glibc (not Android's bionic), has bash and busybox (not toolbox), uses Qt for UX, and other opensource projects in its middleware -- which basically is just like a Linux on your desktop, but needs Android drivers for some of device's hardware.
And everything else you need to know:
Status
Working: calls, data, wifi, bluetooth, sensors, camera (with bugs), gps
Buggy: Bluetooth Headset/Carkit, Phone does not go to sleep if WiFi is turned on

Installation
Unlock boot loader and install CM 12.1 from the 'Android Base' link above.
FAQ: http://bit.ly/port-user-faq
Install the SailfishOS .zip over the top using TWRP
Keep fingers crossed!
If you just get the bootloader warning screen, hold down the power button to force a reboot, and it will probably work next boot.
Enabling OTA updates
Connect to the phone using SSH, or using the local terminal enter the following (after setting the devel-su password)
devel-su sed -i -e 's#^adaptation=.*$#adaptation=http://repo.merproject.org/obs/nemo:/devel:/hw:/motorola:/falcon/sailfish_latest_armv7hl/#' /usr/share/ssu/repos.ini
version --dup
This will set up the device specific repository to my OBS project, and the version command will perform the update. This will keep you up to date with my developments, but I wont guarantee I wont break anything!
If you do an OTA update now, you should find that vibration will work and the BT MAC address displays correctly in the About screen. These are not in the latest image.XDA:DevDB Information

Sorry for my bad english
Sweet.
Looks good, Gonna test it right now and report my findings..
Do the clean flash or dirty flash? Sorry.. Noob question
I tested it a bit. And it seams to be smooth. Wifi worked perfectly
I couldn't test bluetooth.. While playing around with it i went to the Jolla store and tried to log to it popped up with an error that said "Problems During device IMEI registration. Device IMEI wasn't saved".. After that i went to the Warehouse appstore and i tried to enable a repository and it said
"ERROR occurred

Status:no-distro-upgrade-data

Oh and one more thing MTP didn't work

First of all thank you for your time and work.
Do you have any idea why this issue with Jolla store could be? I don't know if it's something common with other ports
Maybe the signal strenght bug is due to the baseband version?
Heys guys,
What build of CM12.1 you guys used ?
I have a XT1032, managed to install SailfishOS with cm-12.1-20151117-SNAPSHOT-YOG7DAO1K9-falcon.zip and i was able to boot into SailfishOS, problem is i cant stay in it ... it auto reboots after like 1min or so..
Anyone with same issue?
Cheers

How to build the kernel for your Huawei P9

Huawei have helpfully released the kernel source for the Huawei P9 on their download site. Impressively, the version posted there (3.10.90) actually matches the current release build (B136). However, the download itself is only part of the puzzle - it's important to then know how to compile it and use it. Hence this guide.
Some points to note first of all...
This guide refers to building on Linux. You can probably build on OSX or whatever too but seriously, it's less pain in the long run to spin up an Ubuntu VM.
In the download linked above, as well as the kernel, there are some other bits and pieces (some of which are quite bizarre). I've mirrored the kernel to Bitbucket, so you don't need to grab the whole download.
Got that? OK, so here's a step by step on how to build the kernel! I strongly recommend building stock first and testing that works for you, then you can start adding your tweaks in. I'm interested to hear what you add / change!
Open a terminal window on your Linux machine / in your Linux VM. No GUIs here. Change to the directory where you want the kernel / toolchain to live.
First of all, we're going to clone the toolchain from AOSP.
Code:
git clone https://android.googlesource.com/platform/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/aarch64/aarch64-linux-android-4.9
Next we're going to clone the kernel source itself from my git repo on bitbucket.
Code:
git clone https://gitlab.com/paulobrien/android_kernel_huawei_p9.git kernel
We need to add the toolchain location to the path.
Code:
export PATH=$(pwd)/aarch64-linux-android-4.9/bin:$PATH
We need to specify that we are cross compiling for arm64.
Code:
export CROSS_COMPILE=$(pwd)/aarch64-linux-android-4.9/bin/aarch64-linux-android-
Let's create a directory for our output to go in to.
Code:
mkdir out
We've got the kernel downloaded, so let's change to that directory so we're ready to go.
Code:
cd kernel
A bit of cleaning up before we get started...
Code:
make ARCH=arm64 O=../out mrproper
Specify that we're building for the P9 (hisi3650 chipset)...
Code:
make ARCH=arm64 O=../out p9_extracted_defconfig
And build it!
Code:
make ARCH=arm64 O=../out -j8
When this process completes, we can check the '../out' directory and you should find the file arch/arm64/boot/Image. This is the kernel that you've just built! You can't flash it as is though, you need to put it into a boot image first.
Here's how you do it...
Change out of the kernel directory back to its parent.
Code:
cd ..
Download tools for manipulating the boot image.
Code:
git clone https://github.com/xiaolu/mkbootimg_tools.git
Download the stock boot image (actually we're using the root ready version for convenience).
Code:
wget -O boot.img http://nigella.modaco.com/files/boot.stock.huaweip9.b136.img
Extract the boot image.
Code:
mkbootimg_tools/mkboot boot.img boot.extracted
Copy the new kernel into the extracted boot folder.
Code:
cp out/arch/arm64/boot/Image.gz boot.extracted/kernel
Build a new boot image.
Code:
mkbootimg_tools/mkboot boot.extracted boot.newkernel.img
You now have a new boot image (boot.newkernel.img). All that's left is to flash it to your device! Reboot to bootloader (either using 'adb reboot bootloader' or by powering on with volume down held), flash using 'fastboot flash boot boot.newkernel.img' and then reboot using 'fastboot reboot'. Job done! In the About screen of settings you should see the date of the new kernel and details of your build machine.
And I've just discovered the stock kernel compile isn't seeing my SIM card. Helpful.
P
SIM issue fixed, instructions updated.
P
A good start for this device. I hope we will see more devs soon in this section.

What's your take on the Kernel sources. The Kernel sources from Huawei have been always a great mess for me.
So...does this actually mean custom ROMs on the P9 after all?? Hot damn I cross my fingers (having just received the phone, which is amazing)

Honestly, a full stock ROM like CyanogenMod is still a long way off and by no means guaranteed, it'll need someone dedicated and skilled to pick it up.
Every little helps though!

It certainly does! This stuff just got even more interesting I could definitely be satisfied with "just" a custom stock kernel ROM. Coming off an old Z3, I had great fun with SLiM ROMs, Existenz etc.:good:
I think we'll definitely see custom stock based ROMs, with bloat stripped and kernel updated amongst other optimisations.

SO TRUE! I remember when I purchased my first Huawei device (Honor 6) and I downloaded it's kernel sources. The sources didn't even compiled. And I just stared at the screen printing loads of C errors (unsigned variables, Wunused variable, etc.). At that time, the sources weren't even complete. They had some files missing. So, I couldn't even fix them. Today, the sources are better. I downloaded P8 Lite's and 4C / 4X Marshmallow sources, compiled them and flashed the kernel. The kernel worked out of the box with eveything working (no SIM, WiFi, related issues).
About Custom ROMs, Cyanogenmod isn't possible but AOSP is. (Do you know currently 5 Huawei Kirin devices have AOSP builds which boot successfully, P8, P8 Lite, 4C, 4X and P8 Lite; the ROM boots but obviously many things don't work especially the RIL). Also, many people don't know that HiSilicon Kirin 620 has official AOSP support (the reason why 4 out of the above 5 mentioned devices have AOSP). The problem is that immense hardwork and loads of patches are needed to make them stable which unfortunately no developer wants to put in. But have faith, the future might be bright for Huawei devices.

Kernel Source != Custom ROM. In fact, sometimes you can build a ROM around a stock boot.img and not have to use a custom kernel at all. But having sources for the Kirin chipset always helps.

Honestly though, it would be amazing to have this feature. Maybe it's possible to enable it without kernel mod though, all the entries in build.prop and hw_easywakeupmotion_config.xml are there and you can get the option in the motion control menu, but when you enable it, it doesn't actually work

Hi, so you might wonder why the other thread got closed and what's all of this about. Well, the answer is that now I'll be maintaining this rom while Surdu will take care of Resurrection Remix, the rom is the same and you can flash this builds without wiping if you had the 'older' rom.

Flash vendor.zip
Flash LineageOS's zip

Sorry about that, there must be a problem with XDA servers, it's taking more than an hour to upload! And unfortunately I couldn't upload it without posting the DevDB thread, if it keeps working like that I'll find a more reliable storage solution.
I am really sorry! Check back in 5 minutes or so
Very nice job, and happy you fixed the issue. I'll set it as my daily driver once everything's OK
So what exactly caused the issues ? I'm curious as to whether it could have been solved on our own (i do say without Huawei's kind but forced operations).
And what do we do with that vendor.zip ? Flash it on top of Lineage's original Vendor package ?
(EDIT : Check post on top, the joys of cross-posting )
Still, thank you immensely on behalf of all the community

Hi, the problem was that a driver introduced by Huawei checked the time that it takes to boot (running in a kthread), if it takes more than three minutes it reboots to eRecovery, but it looks like it waits for a signal from userspace to check if it booted (like, write 1 to /sys/.... Whenever it boots).
We were actually aware of this being the issue, and tried to avoid it by editing the function's code (ARM64 instructions because we had no source (By filling the function with NOP or returning 0)) but we didn't succeed at first and thought that the kernel release was near so it made no sense to keep wasting time on it, if you want to see more details just go to github and check what we did, I hope that you understood the explanation.
Thanks for your kind words!
EDIT: The rom is up, you can download it now.
The Lineage zip file has uploaded! Thanks again for all your guys work.
Thx for your job. I'll now have to unlock the bootloader and start flashing. Two questions: can I lock the bootloader again once I installed LOS? Do i need to install twrp or is it enough to just boot it for installation?

Not at all, you need to be on EMUI in order to relock it. (You can if you go back to EMUI but I think that you asked if you could do that while you are on LineageOS).

2. Without any install, any other flash zip, juste lineageos zip: shutdown phone, when press power to boot again, the rom won't boot, stuck to bootanimation.
3. I'm format data again to boot. But same bug, if i shutdown, or reboot .... stuck to bootanimation.

If bug is still here with your update, i will try to enable usb debug before reboot and an adb shell, if i'm not wrong, bootanimation mean kernel boot, so adb shell must work (adb secure is set or not ?).

About HwComposer. Apps are working as fast as normal but the UI is slower than normal. If you want to swipe down Status bar its slow and when you are at homescreen and slide from side to side its slower than normal. And when I Press Power Button to Turn Screen on/off Phone needs 1-2 seconds longer than normal. It would be very cool if we see a HWC fix for this Rom.

I have not unable adb, and nothing change for the moment. Because if enable adb, or doing something else, maybe the bug will not be there.
Now i will try to force language to english. And if not work, i wil re re-format data to boot, and set adb secure to 0 to look at the log.
