REAR Glass Tempered Glass Screen Protectors - Nexus 6P Accessories

So, with fantastic support from folks like @intelliARMOR here on XDA, perhaps we can get them to start looking at Tempered Glass Screen Protectors (TGSP's) for the REAR glass on the Nexus 6P.
I'll get some emails out to Skinomi and others to see if they would be interested in making one, while gorilla glass 4 is great and all, I'm sure some of the rest of you are as concerned as I am about the back glass, if not more so (always setting it down on the back).
Anyone else seen anything? I can get a list going of who's been contacted and replies, just give me a link and a name, or let me know you contacted them and their reply when they do.
@intelliARMOR - Responded here - in the works!.
Skinomi - Contacted, awaiting reply.

um, what rear glass do you speak of? that little sliver at the top with the camera? because otherwise, the 6p has an aluminum rear...

Yes, the area known as the rear visor. I'd be all for it.

That piece of glass that covers the camera and the laser af focus
Sent from my Nexus 5

Of course I'm referring to the only piece of gorilla glass on the rear. LOL
Glad to see others are interested. Should be easy, and cheap. I don't even think they'd need to make holes, do they? if so, just the one for the camera, one for the flash, and one for the auto focus, if not one for both of the latter together.

Holes would be required for those. The protectors would refract the laser, focus, camera

Figures, still, it would be much more protected with the holes cut out than nothing.
Hopefully someone takes this up.

Did that really need to be explained?

I'd buy a combo pack (front + rear) over just a front glass protector.

Most cases (dare I even say all) won't support a TGS on there. And if you don't use a case then I don't quite see the point of protecting that part but not the back... unless you're just interested in protecting it from scratches using a skin or something... or it could just be me.... lol

yeah of course it did. it's a very odd request. as mentioned, it would cause issues with the camera, and the area's so small that i'd doubt there would ever be a market for such an item. i've never actually seen a request for tempered glass protection for a 40mm strip of glass. secondly, as there are other devices which in fact do have proper glass backs, i thought maybe he was confused. so yes, it really did need to be explained, and, given the explanation, i'm still not certain he understands the ramifications of what he's asking for. it would with 100% certainty detract from the usability of the device. if you're that concerned about it, get a nice bumper case and be done with it. anyway, good luck to you op with your quest

The edges of the "visor" also curve back toward the front of the phone, don't they? So it'll be annoying just like the 2.5D TGSP on iPhones and stuff...

This is a little anal retentive. The only reason to protect the back glass is to keep the camera, flash and laser emitter free of scratches, but you don't want to cover them for performance reasons. The rest is for sensors and even if the glass got scratched it wouldn't affect them.
Also, if you look at the design, it appears that even laying flat on a surface, the glass does not contact the surface. I don't have an actual 6P to check though.

If you don't see the point, it wouldn't be for you then. I do see the point, I drop my phones occasionally, I'd rather have it protected as much as possible than not. A thin TGSP on the back would we fine for me, don't need a super thick one. I use cases, good ones, I just would like the option.
Someone else somewhere mentioned how skins should be made for it, and that's what gave me this idea. Either or even better, both options would be nice to have.

Not too odd obviously, others are interested in it. If there is a camera cut out then there's no issues with the camera.
He completely understands the ramifications of what he asked for... that's why he asked. Not that I want the answer, but I don't see how this could 100% detract from the usability of the device. Or even 1% for that matter.
A bumper case? Yeah, that's super protective. I've already got 2 cases waiting and a few more coming. I know there are folks that like to go naked, with just a screen protector, and I know there are others that are going to get the cases with no coverage of the back glass. If it's not for you then fine, it's not for you, but others having the option to get one don't affect your option to NOT.

No, the only reason to protect the back glass would be to...
Wait for it...
Wait...
Protect the back glass.
Protect it from shatters from falling on the ground, protect it from scratches and scrapes when doing the things you do with phones (taking pictures of your car engine while you work on it, taking pictures of the roof damage from the hailstorm).
I for one like a 100% device when I go to sell them when it is time to move on. My LG G3 is absolutely mint.
Call it anal, thats fine with me.
So great folks, if you aren't interested in one, this thread would not be for you.

Remove CWM Recovery

I would like to exchange my current HTC One M8 for another M8 through Verizon (because I have been noticing that the glass is not entirely flush), however I am weary of doing so with CWM Recovery still on the device. I understand how to remove permanent root (SuperSU settings allow for this), though since this is my first HTC device, I am not entirely sure how to proceed from here (get the stock recovery back). Can I just flash the recovery.img from this thread through ADB, or will this brick my device? Thanks in advance for your help.
Quick question, what glass are you talking about that is not flush?

he is probably talking about the entire screen. the time i read that. i remember feeling mine.
the part where the screen touches the metal towards the speakers, mine is lower on the right side than the left (gun metal grey m8)
its not a big deal for me, but im pretty sure this is what he is talking about

Yep, @JWhetstone02 is correct. The glass sections directly above the top and bottom front facing speakers of my device are raised in comparison to the glass covering my LCD. It wasn't enough to originally notice when I first opened and began using the device, but now that my screen protector has finally finished adhering, it is definitely noticeable (the raised portions are lifting the screen protector off of the glass). It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if both sections were equally raised, however they are not; the top right portion is higher then the top left portion, and the bottom left portion is flush while the bottom right portion is raised.
Despite all this, I still stand by the fact that the HTC One M8 is THE BEST constructed device I have ever had the pleasure of using.
EDIT: I actually considered sending in the device under the HTC Advantage Free Glass Replacement clause, however I don't want to take the risk that when I receive my device is may be no better off then when I sent it in. At least at the store I can confirm that the glass portions are all flush.
Mine is the same way too. Even the one on display was like that I'm just saying returning it I don't know if the new one will be any better, let us know

FYI, that shows up on every single one I've seen, if you use the screen protector that goes over the speaker grills.
use a regular screen only, you'll never notice.

I tried to circumvent the launch devices by ordering mine after the a couple days after the official launch, because of all the issues I heard the original HTC One had, but apparently I either didn't wait long enough, or the even more unfortunate scenario that the majority of M8's are like this.

Worse comes to worse, I would rather have the separation and my entire screen covered... With such a nice looking device, I would hate myself if I scratched some portion of it. When I purchased the device, there were no screen protectors or cases at any of the Verizon stores near me, so I left my device unopened until the Skinomi Techskin and cheap TPU case I ordered arrived from Amazon. Further, after dropping and cracking my previous Galaxy S3, I am not taking any chances with this phone.
Ignore...
damn now mine has this. ugh my ocd got me now. never noticed...thanks lol
With the latest Gorilla glass i don't think screen protectors are even needed. Up until my last phone, samsung note 2, I always used a screen protector. Didn't use one on my note and never got a scratch on it. Granted i'm somewhat anal about my phone but never had an issue. Now on my
m8 i don't have one. I don't think its needed.....If it keeps lifting due to screen then ditch it.

Fix for uneven glass.
Otterbox Defender.
http://www.otterbox.com/Defender-Se...default,pd.html?start=1&cgid=htc-one-m8-cases
The good:
The clear plastic sheet covers the entire glass eliminating the problems OP mentioned.
It protects the phone probably better than any other case.
The kickstand feature allows me to use it as my bedside alarm clock.
The bad:
It's costly.
It makes a very big phone MUCH bigger!
It's slow to get on and off.
The ugly:
Otterbox Defender is an UGLY case IMHO.
I wouldn't be without it! It took a day or two to get used to it but I really like it now.

Thank you, but I can not use an Otterbox case... It defeats the purpose of buying a nice looking phone if I immediately cover it up.

But you'll need a case of some kind for protection, won't you?
I don't know of any case that's as nice looking as the phone, I'd like to not use a case myself but my previous phone had a small problem (I could salvage the SIM and the SD card, the screen, digitizer, motherboard, etc. were completely destroyed so.... I know the case is ugly but I'm sticking with it!
As always, YMMV.
idk if this gives you any hope, but mine is flush on both ends... and if you're still looking for the stock recovery img, try reaching out to a dev. Try @andybones

Your right it doesnt say. I email the seller and he said it should fit 99% edge to edge since no protector can cover 100%
Also doing a 1:1of the picture and the old protectors i return it is wider and looks like it will fit.
They should be here by friday so i will know then. I dont like the other protectors since they feel all gummy and there arent any glass ones out.
Ill let you know tho.

It feels a little gummy but not as bad as I thought it would feel.
On a side note, I tried a bunch of different protectors so far, and the Konami is the one that fits and sticks the best on the ENTIRE screen.
The ones with no solution I have tried DO NOT stick very well on the curve screen.

Thanks. I have done some search.on the brand you use for other phone. Some review said this protector is very difficult to install, need spray and at least one hour careful work to put it on. And need time for bubble to go away. And it is not as clear as normal HD protector. I am not sure how is yours, maybe the one you get for edge is normal material and normal install?

Took me about 3 minutes to put on.
Follow the directions and spray your hands with the solution.
YES you do need time for the bubble to go away. The instructions recommend not using the phone for 4 to 5 hours which i did. The protector
needs time to adhere to the glass.
To me it looks as clear as any normal HD protector I have ever used.

I see. It is good to know the detail feedback. I may go for a try.
I guess for edge screen, non of any normal material protector can work good. Only the that kind of material you bought need water to install and very thing can stick and stay.

[REVIEW] Moshi iVisor Glass

Right, first of all, I had been waiting for a UK supplier of this product for aaaaages!
Finally MobileFun started stocking it.
As everyone knows, tempered glass protectors are for the most part, a problem for the Note 4 due to the curved edges.
I had been using one that just cover the viewing area, which looked hideous IMO.
So when I first saw iVisor and it's total, no halo coverage, I knew I needed to try it out, despite the high price of £30! (yeah, I thought I was crazy too)
In terms of packaging, there's not much to report, it's... A box [emoji23]

In the box you get a cloth and suction cup to help with the installation, but I've installed so many glass protectors I didn't find it necessary to use the cup.
As you can see, this thing covers the "whole" front of the screen.
Installation of the iVisor was, in my opinion, the easiest of all the protectors I've installed.
Having the coloured edge, allows you to line everything up far easier, than a totally transparent one.
After installation and now it's been on a couple of days, I can give informed verdict on this protector.... And that verdict is, it's nothing short of amazing!
Despite the high price, in my opinion it is well worth the money, not only is it one of the thinest glass protectors I've ever come across, the clarity is phenomenal! Not to mention, the feel of thing is just like the naked glass.
I thought the ones I used in the past were good, obviously better than the PTE type, but this is a next level up.
Not forgetting THE reason I got this in the first place, which is a halo free viewing experience, which this delivers impeccably.
Yes, it is expensive, but if you're after a tempered glass protector, this has got to be the best one for the Note 4. Definitely a 10/10 from me, and if you can stomach the cost, the only one to get.
Nice thanks for sharing, is it because it has a dark border that the halo effect cannot be seen?
I'm using it as well and agree it is hands down the best one for this phone.
I disagree. Don't like the holes on the glass. Much prefer the Arcadia glass.

The arcadia screen protector will cover the indicate light?!
Gesendet von meinem G3
It's all peaches & cream until the thin adhesive sides pop loose and tons of junk end up under the screen. Also a lot of cases will cause this protector to bow up in the middle and the screen will become unresponsive as there is no adhesive under the actual display area. Been there, done that.
Anyhow, nice review and good luck with the Moshi.

I think it depends on the case, I'm using using Spigen Neo hybrid and I think it's a case of it being a mixture of luck and the way it's made, that I've managed to get it that spot on, that the case doesn't touch it, or at the very least is flush.

I think that does play a part, but I don't think it's totally because of that, because I've had others that halo way before the edge of the actual display, let alone the edge of the phone.

They're not holes, as in "holes", they're sections that don't have the coloured border to let the button LEDs shine through.
Trouble is getting hold of others, I tried getting all sorts but found it surprisingly difficult getting anyone to ship to the UK, including the suppliers themselves.

Can i clean the moshi glass?
Looks like it will be the same price as the BodyGuardz Crown (coming the end of April for Note 4). Both look like they offer great protection. Because of the aluminum bezel, the Crown will have zero lift around the edges. Is there any lift at all with the iVisor? I think that would be a deal breaker if it does.

You mean the adhesive side? Probably, but I wouldn't recommend it, why would you want to remove it unless it cracked of course, but then you'd replace it?
I have a similar one arriving today. It's a Cailifu and is sold on Amazon. I will let you guys know how it looks and holds up. Here's the link to check it out:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PXP38BA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have been using the Cailifu glass protector for about a day now. Overall, i think it's a winner. The only negative thing I could find is, it's a smudge and fingerprint magnet. Not sure it it's the material used or some kind of coating, but I have to clean the screen far more frequently than normal. The screen coverage is perfect with no gaps or lifting around the edges. For the price (75% less than the iVisor), it's a go.
BTW, the "windows" for the capacitive buttons are square. The iVisor has round windows. The square windows give it a more stock look than the round ones. Hope this comparison helps.

Having used this for a few weeks now, would you still recommend the Moshi? I've read some comments online about their iPhone protectors having an 'oil slick' effect in the centre of the screen and a 'dot pattern' that permanently marked the screen - have you noticed anything like this? I didn't see any such problems evident in your photo.
Also be very interested to know how S-Pen usage is with this. Does the S-Pen still operate the back button OK?

No problems whatsoever, very happy with it and well worth the money IMHO.

Finally found the perfect case + TGSP combo

Since I initially purchased my OnePlus 6 at launch, I've gone through a few different screen protectors and cases, including the OEM Nylon Bumper Case. While the Nylon Bumper Case was my previous favorite, I'm finding that the Spigen Rugged Armor case, paired with the Orzly TGSP, is absolutely perfect. The overall size of the Spigen case is almost identical to the OEM Nylon Bumper, so it isn't adding any more noticeable bulk. The added bonus is that the Spigen case hugs the top, bottom and sides of the Orzly protector with no gaps anywhere. There was a bit of a gap between the Orzly protector and the Nylon Bumper Case.
In addition, the buttons on the Spigen case are just as 'clicky' as the OEM Nylon Bumper Case while providing just a tad more of a gap between the back camera and the outside of the case, thus providing a little more protection for the back camera.
Overall, I am extremely happy and would highly recommend this combo. Admittedly, my previous Orzly screen protector was installed slightly off center, causing it to lift when the Spigen case was installed. However, I uninstalled that protector, cleaned the screen and re-installed my spare Orzly protector with the Spigen case installed, for perfect guidance. The end result is even better than I expected.
Anyway, on to pics...

Looks like there is not too much lip to protect the screen. I have original tg and bought few cases. Ended up with nylon op6 case. Still not pleased that the side of the screen are partially covered by original op6 TG.

The lip of the case is only a few mm above the screen protector. So not a lot of protection there. I'd say the lip is about the same height as the OEM nylon case.

Dude, stop being this softy! I said this is a good post and even tho its not for me i said that some might find this information usefull but then you came back at me with your stupid punctuation answer so what did you expect?
Im happy for you that you found the perfect combo and i know from my own experience that it can be a long road to find the perfect combination so this is why i said its good that you shared this info for others to read.
Also i dont think you should get in this defense this easy because you know on internet you get a more realistic response if people like it or not so you should have a bit more respect for your self and not take the bad comments, in your eyes, that serious
I think the screen protector is **** because it doesn't cover the notch and i hated this on the official screen protector also that came with the phone so i bought the official glass protector but since im hearing stories about it covering the screen due to the black borders, i didn't even take the the trouble to install it and went straight for other protectors with a all transparant top.
I have tried many cheap glass protectors but they all where **** due to the fact that all had problems with the edges and this is why i went to try the soft TPU nano protectors that i also used on my galaxy s7..... and guess what? I think they still are 1 of the best protectors in general because they wont raise the screen and i love the feel when i swipe my finger over it!
They also dirty cheap and easy to replace and when you apply it wet then its so easy to install so these are my go to protectors from now one in combination with the Nylon case.

The "Thanks" meter is a d*** good indicator of positive contribution. When you've been around here for 7 years, posted 790 times and only have 124 instances where your post helped someone, that's a clear sign that most of your time here has not been used to contribute useful things for others. Maybe consider that next time, before coming into the thread that someone created to try and help others, simply to bash it with negative comments. It's not helpful and it quickly derails threads for no reason.
It's perfectly fine to disagree. And as I said just before, if you had provided the details you just did in your last post right from the beginning, it would have probably sparked a worthwhile conversation. But you chose not to and now here we are.

LOL! You can't be serious. The "Thanks" button is literally 2 buttons away from the "Reply" button that you (and everyone else) use on a daily basis. So I find it very hard to believe that "lots of people" don't know where it is. People seem to have no trouble finding it when someone posts something useful.

Yes the protector does have a black border. It does cut off a tiny bit of screen but nothing to even notice. On mine I can still see the time on the top left and the battery icon on the right. People say it cuts of some writing while in fastboot mode but I haven't checked. I haven't noticed anything cut off from the border.

Yep. As yldlj said, it cuts off a very tiny portion of the left and right sides. In normal usage you'd never notice it though. Other than in Fastboot, I haven't found a single app that pushes text far enough out that the TGSP border cuts it off.

I can confirm that it cuts off the very far edge of text while in Fastboot mode. This is the only time I've ever noticed it actually cutting anything off. But that's mainly because the text in Fastboot goes way to far to the screen edges and doesn't wrap- around to the next line where it should.

UV activated adhesive glass

Reading other threads there seem to be ongoing issues with tempered glass protectors for the Pixel 4 XL. The slight curve of the glass at the sides seems to be the problem. With other curved phones I've had success with glass that I've adhered using some UV activated adhesive. Does anyone know if there are any such products out there or if anyone is planning to sell these? I've looked, but I can't find any.
I'm currently living with a protector that doesn't quite cover the screen. Not ideal!

No issues here with my screen protector. I've had it on since October 28.

Honestly, it's the angle and the strong sunlight that showing the dust. It's not really noticable in real life. Also, it might have a "chewed top" but it's stays on just fine.

It looks nice but $20 for 2 is a rip-off when I got 3 for $4.

paid 10 for 2 but yes agree there's cheaper alternatives. I just received them but I'm not liking the side bars. it blocks some of the screen. I might have to wait for the final product or get the omoton brand.

I know.. didn't mean that one. the one from the other thread.
I've been using this one and have had no issues. Cutout for speaker and selfie camera. It comes with a case and 2 screen protectors. No dot matrix or rainbow effect. Soli works fine and it doesn't interfere with gestures. Does require you to spread a liquid around the edges with a brush. No peeling up and no dust.

I tried a few. Right now the Zagg tempered glass has been the best, but its not cheap. The cheap OMOTON for $10 from Amazon was ok, but I had issues with sensitivity on some of the edges with that one that didn't happen with the Zagg.
edit: I have been following the Intelliglass thread as I was interested in their product originally, but I would steer clear away until they get their act together. While the XDA forum guy seems to be trying hard, the company can't seem to ship a product worth buying right now. Dot matrix shipped by accident, and now replacements don't have adhesive in all the right places, etc. Folks over there are not happy.
I'm using my Zagg until Whitestone does something, but really, the Zagg is probably good enough.

Yeah I'd stay away from intelliarmor. Dealt with their stuff during the Nexus 6P days and they still haven't gotten their stuff together.

Interesting to see a manufacturer finally put that into practice. Since the edges lift and they're essentially having you fill the gap in between the screen protector and the glass with a liquid. Some people do that already with WD40 or olive oil.
Thanks for all the replies (been busy so not had a chance to respond). The EJBOTH Screen Protector looks interesting and looks like it extends beyond the visible screen, which is important for me. I've bought one of those (coming to UK, so won't be here until Jan 9th). I'll let you know how I get on.
