Can't enter twrp - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a while ago I flashed Sultanxda's F2FS rom. After a while of using a OTA notification came and I downloaded it. but I can't seems to enter TWRP (ver 2.8.6.1 dark bacon) but it stucks at loading. I left my phone overnight to see wheter I cant boot into recovery but it still says loading. Should I flash the recovery again?

if u can access bootloader, just flash recovery again by fastboot method.
After u flash recovery by fastboot, dont forget hold vol down then 'fastboot reboot'

Are you booting the device plugged in? If you are, Try booting it again but unplugged from everything.

Can't flash/access TWRP CM12.1/CM13

Hi there,
Yesterday I decided to upgrade from 5.1.1 (Sultan unofficial) to 6.0.1 (Sultan unofficial). :good:
Sh*t went down because I was running TWRP 2.8.6.1 and OP stated you must run 2.8.6.0.
So I got stuck into bootloot, hence I booted into recovery, put image of 2.8.6.0 into my phone and then flashed the img file through the appropriate menu.
Sh*t went down once again (And I'm not sure of why, but maybe because you cannot downgrade that way). Now I have a messed up recovery.
Well then, I get into fastboot, use Wugfresh's one-click-tool to flash back to 5.1.1. Everything goes well : my phone boots up :good:.
I disable update recovery with system updates in developers options (even though I am aware that this switch doesn't work on Lollipop)
Then I decide to root again and install TWRP 2.8.6.0 and the process fails : not that I get errors, but the command :
fastboot boot recovery.img
isn't doing its thing, hence I never boot into recovery
I'm quite surprised, but well I try to flash recovery :
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0.img
command executes without errors
I reboot into cm, try to boot into recovery and :
"Surprise Motherf*cker !" CM recovery shows.
I read that I must clear cache before (or after) flashing recovery
fastboot erase cache
Then shut the phone down holding Vol-down and power buttons and then boot into recovery holding Vol-down once again.
No luck, this time, every time I try to boot into recovery with this method, 1+ logo shows, phone vibrates, and 1+ logo shows etc. indefinitely
I abandoned... flashed 4.4.4 used wugfresh tool to root and flash twrp, then flashed marshmallow
Now I am rooted and running Marshmallow, but TWRP has been erased... Tried to flash through Flashify and Rashr, no luck.
(I disabled update cm recovery under developer settings)
Does someone understand why I don't manage to get TWRP under Android 5 and 6, and could explain me why ? :fingers-crossed:
Thank you !

Normally when you flash TWRP via fastboot, if you boot to the OS it will replace your recovery so the workaround is to flash recovery via fastboot. Turn off phone via long pressing power button then volume down + power button and you should have TWRP. That's how I've always done it

Thank you for your answer
As I mentionned, I have already tried the method you described, I just ran through the process again to confirm you this isn't working
The commands I used :
Code:
C:\adb>adb reboot bootloader
C:\adb>fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-bacon.img
target reported max download size of 1073741824 bytes
sending 'recovery' (10180 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.313s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.156s]
finished. total time: 0.469s
Then I unplug my phone, then long press power button, and when the phone is off I press power button + volume down
With this process 1+ logo shows up for 7~8 secs, then the phone vibrates and the screen goes dark, and then the 1+ logo shows up again indefinitely like there's no recovery to be found...
If I release vol-down, phone ends up booting system

Bootloader won't work.

Hi,
I unlocked my Xt1039 recovery long time ago, but hadn't made any changes.
Yesterday i tried to install the twrp recovery and realised that my bootloader isn't working correctly.
I entered bootloader and flashed the recovery, but when tring to enter recovery via the bootloader it just shows a moto logo and then an animation of the battery percentaje.
So to solve this, as i thought it was a flash problem i did fastboot boot to enter the recovery, wich booted correctly and flashed the recovery trough there; after that i enter recovery via adb reboot recovery, and it loaded correctly the recovery, but when i try to enter the recovery via the bootloader i still shows the logo and the battery and doesn't works.
After that i tried the other options in the bootloader, but none works, not even the power normaly, every thing makes the same, logo and battery percentaje.
Someone has a gess?
Thanks in advance.
Try updating your Bootloader with this Utility:

Stuck in boot

Hi! My Oneplus One is stuck in boot (the oneplus logo).
I can get into fastboot but not recovery. I have followed some softbrick guides and the problem that I have is that even after flashing twrp as recovery I cant get into recovery. when I try to start it to recovery (volume up + power) I only get to the oneplus logo again. and when I use "fastboot boot twrp.img" the backlight comes on but the fastboot image stays, fastboot doesnt recognize it from this point so i have to restart it into fastboot mode again.
i have tried to flash the factory images, but nothing seems to change.
I dont know what to do, pls help..
After flashing recovery from fastboot, do NOT issue the reboot command. Press and hold the power button till phone powers off. If you issue the reboot command from fastboot, custom recovery will be lost. Also, don't know which twrp version you are trying to flash, but I would suggest flashing 2.8.6.0 first, then after you know you can get into recovery, you can flash another version.
Additionally, to boot to recovery you have to hold
volume down + power
volume up + power brings you to fastboot
Last but not least,
fastboot boot twrp.img
does not boot the recovery which is on your device, but the recovery image which is located inside your fastboot folder on your pc.

Ok, I did not know that the reboot command removes the custom recovery. Im almost certain that i've tried just powering down and trying recovery before too tho.
I was trying to flash twrp 3.0.0.0 so i'll try 2.8.6.0 asap

oops, i ofcourse ment that i try to get to recovery by volume down+power, and i know fastboot boot twrp.img boots from the .img on the computer, i just think its peculiar that nothing happens.
nothing has really happend after this, so i still need help.
summary: bump
I don't really get what you say. Perhaps i don't experiences before. @kenboyles72 is correct, official ROM may delete custom recovery (you can change the setting). Then @AcmE85 gives you an option, but it does not work.
Here is my option:
1. download any custom rom. The best idea is as minimum MB as possible. (Flash ROM directly from your PC)
2. flash your recovery, do NOT reboot. (fastboot flash recovery rec.img)
3. flash your ROM. (fastboot flash zip rom.zip)
Let's see if this would help you.
I had some issues a while back, where I was caught in a bootloop and flashing another rom. So I followed this guide, https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/31sf0x/guide_how_to_return_from_oxygenos_to_stock_cm11s . You can skip flashing the userdata.img to keep all data on sdcard. Also you can substitute flashing twrp recovery img for stock recovery. I myself went ahead and flashed all stock just to make sure everything booted correctly, then went into dev options and disabled update cm recovery, booted back to fastboot and flashed twrp 2.8.6.0. Evey thing worked like a charm.
Flasing stock rom did not affect anything noticeably.. phone is still stuck in boot/fastboot
Just to confirm, have you tried either/both of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-unbrick-oneplus-one-t3013732
I have followed the return to stock guide, but not the unbrick, since my phone is softbricked, not hardbricked.
I have followed this guide tho, to no avail https://m.reddit.com/r/oneplus/wiki/devices/one/brickguide
the strange thing is that i didnt cause this. The phone started randomly overheating and one time it just never booted up.

Oneplus one not installing TWRP after COS13.1 update

I reset my Oneplus one and installed the COS13.1 update.... But now after installing I'm not able to flash twrp through fastboot... Even tho it shows successful on the PC, it wing boot into TWRP
Go to the developer options (tapping on the build number first ofcourse) and then go to the option: "update Cyanogen-recovery". set it to off.
I think that should do it. Haven't installed the update yet, but there is an option like that in the normal CM-13.
edit:
If that doesn't work you can try to flash it through flashify (requires root). If that still doesn't work you can also boot TWRP through fastboot and then install the IMG through TWRP itself (like updating your recovery)
You can boot TWRP via fastboot with using the boot command instead of the flash command:
fastboot boot "image.img"
Still showing that it's failed
Could you boot TWRP without flashing via fastboot? Because if you can do that it means that the system is automatically reflashing the stock recovery at startup.
How did you installed (tried to install) the recovery?
fastboot?
Follow this. TWRP 3.0.2 can be installed this way. 2.8.6 sometimes doesn't.
1. Turn off option to Update Cyanogen Recovery from Developer Options.
2. Flash Recovery via fastboot, the put command to clear cache from fastboot only. DONT REBOOT NOW.
3. Disconnect phone and turn it off.
4. Try booting to recovery. If it fails, dont worry let the phone boot normally then try again. It should work.

Moto g xt1033 black screen

My Moto G won't startup, the screen turns black after the Motorola symbol.I've tried to flash some ROMs,tried to upgrade the bootloader(to some recent version,i think) to 41.1A.
Everything i do in Fastboot seems to work fine, but, when i try to use the feature,it continues the same.I've flashed TWRP recovery, but when i try to use it,the standard recovery open,if i do "fastboot erase userdata" and "fastboot erase cache" the console says its ok, but nothing has been erased.
Everything i try to do,won't work.I thought there was a problem with battery, cause i let it discharge fully, but now i'm seeing that is firmware problem.
I've tried everything on the internet, nothing worked.
I suppose you have an unlocked bootloader, right? If not, unlock it.
I had the problem with the stock recovery popping again after flashing TWRP. The solution is going to recovery exactly after flashing TWRP:
0.- Download TWRP again just to discard the possibility of a bad download.
1.- Boot the phone into fastboot mode.
2.- Flash the recovery .img file
PHP:
(mfastboot flash recovery twrp_file.img)
see if it says "OK" in the computer's console. In the phone screen a pink text line should appear saying something like "file size mismatch OK".
3.- Without rebooting the phone, press vol- button until "Recovery" option is selected. After a couple minutes the TWRP screen will appear and will ask for permission for modify your filesystem.
If you reboot the phone before going into TWRP, stock recovery will be re-installed and TWRP will be lost.

Thx for reply,
Yes,i've unlocked bootloader.
Yesterday i've tried to flash a custom recovery using
PHP:
mfastboot flash boot twrp_file.img
Worked once, the next time i booted my phone,it booted normally.
When i've gained acess in the custom recovery,i tried to copy a cm12 ROM to phone's memory, but, without sucess, the progress doesnt moved a bit.
I Will try the way you Said and Post the results here :fingers-crossed:
