Hello
I live in India and purchased a Nexus 5 in November of 2013 (when it was released here). I got the International version (D821) with very little support for US bands. The problem now is that I will be travelling to the US next year and I am not sure where I'll end up (going to do MS). I need to upgrade my phone but I'm not on a huge budget.
Let me also tell you about some smartphone habits I have. I keep my phone as updated as possible (through official updates/Custom ROMs) hence I would like to get a phone with good community support. Also from some research I've done I seem to have the following choices.
Nexus 5 with unlocked bands: I saw a thread here which allowed enabling bands 2 and 4 on the D821 through some hacking, though I don't want to risk doing that and these two bands alone unlocked don't support all the major carriers in the US.
Oneplus 2: Promising option and again, good community support
I need some advice on other options that I can try or just wait till next year to get another device.
Thanks in Advance
Bump!
Anyone? any help?

Hi I am from the UK, but this is probably answerable by anyone who understands the topic..
Basically, I am looking at upgrading, however 4G is expected to be in the UK in 2013. However, Orange/T-Mobile (Everything Everywhere), have said they are looking at updating their network in Q3 of 2012, supplying the UK with HSPA+ - which is a fair bit faster than the current standard (HS(D?)PA). However, I was wondering if current devices released in the UK (cough, the HTC One X. or possibly the Galaxy S3) will simply require a software update for HSPA+ to work? But if the devices won't even be able to use HSPA+, I don't want to upgrade yet.
Thanks for the help
It will depend of the hardware ability of the network ship , if manufacturer will just allow further abilities by a simple software upgrade , devs will know the trick and make it available by custom roms or apps.
My advice : Wait and see ! New telecommunication standards are always a long time ahead devices able to handle it . Keep your device until the official release of new offers , upgrade plans...It's better than buying now an expensive one.
In UK on 3 with SGSII get H+ displayed to which is HSPA+

It's been available for a while in UK it's implemented into newer phones.
Hey guys, does anyone know if the D821 Nexus 5 model, i.e. the one being sold in Europe and other parts of the world, will work in Japan with at least some notable carriers? I'm planning a exchange year in Japan and don't really want to buy a new smartphone for one year, that won't work at home here in Germany then.
Any ideas on that? Here they say it should work, but I'm still unsure.
Thanks a lot
So the OnePLUS One is available on Oppo mart but has anyone purchased it through this method? I am very curious as to how legit it is and whether the experience was good. Thanks for any advice.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770622 it is a pre-existing thread with a lot of pages in regards to what you're asking about.
Be wary though, I'm pretty sure that the Chinese OPO (which is what Oppomart is selling) is not compatible with LTE on carriers that use LTE bands 4 and 17.
You will need to buy the International version (Says Cyanogen on the back of the phone) in order to have those bands.
I have a opo from oppo mart. In the us I get hspa+ on tnobile but no lte. Its not that bad I like it. Feeds my needs with no problem.
Hi all!
I'm looking to buy this Oneplus 3t used from this link - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS66QGE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A389ML6MNB3VQK&psc=1,
This product is listed as the chinese version. I have several questions as to what this means. Can I get an LTE connection from T-Mobile using this phone? Does this mean that the phone ships with hydrogen OS instead of Oxygen OS? What other limitations will be presented to me using the chinese version of the phone?
If the phone ships with hydrogen, I'll just flash oxygen, not a big deal. What is a big deal is T-Mobile LTE support. (Note:I live in eastern PA). Some say that band 12 from T-Mobile cannot be accessed on the oneplus 3t. Some say it's a hardware issue, some say it's a software issue. I really can't justify buying this phone if I can't get a solid LTE connection (my current Nexus 6 phone works flawlessly in this regard). All of the forum posts that I have read seem to be many months old. I'm hoping that the issue was fixed at this point. I'm not even really sure what the "chinese version" means.
Any info at all helps!
Thanks so much!

Alright, so I'm in the US, and I've been waiting months for the Zenfone 6 to be released officially. It has not. So far, my best choice seems to be going on Gearbest (Can't post link as I'm new and apparently I have to make 10 posts before I can). Do you guys think this is a smart move or should I wait for official US release? Anything I should be weary of when buying on Gearbest?

I'd wait a bit longer, as preorders should start July 15th, or a few days afterward. Release date might be similar to the Zenfone 5Z, or different, but we'll have to see.
you need version C of the phone, or you could be missing out on some of the LTE bands that are used in the USA.
newsguy99 is correct. You want the C version of phone. I do not think the Gearbest sale is for C. It seems to be version A based on LTE bands.
I am on T-Mobile USA. This phone version C has all LTE bands minus 66 (2100 MHz) and 71 (600 MHz). It is very unfortunate that it does not support LTE 71, but very few do.
The chipset can do LTE 71, but Asus must not have wanted to pay Qualcomm for the license. Also does not support 802.1ax WiFi, probably for the same reason.
I just actually bought the device off Gearbest and am expecting it to be delivered today. It's supposed to be version A and I'm on MetroPCS (a TMo MVNO) and am a little worried. Opening the box might make it harder to return to Gearbest but I am curious to test it out and see what kind of performance I get here in Tampa. What do you guys think? Should I just return it unopened? Is it going to be absolutely worthless without Band 4?
