Recently went to a yard sale and found a Nexus S for sale $5 Guy said his kid messed it up that it didn't turn on. I thought to my self what the heck and bought it when I got home I went on XDA. It was a simple thing all I had to do was access boot screen and do a reset. Working great..
But now i have a question to any who read this. Now so far all I know is that is Sprint Nexus S but I see there is also a 4g I know its a dumb question but where would I find it. Now my new mission for the week is finding out before I start flashing Roms. So far I have a Galaxy 2, a Nexus S, hopefully soon Galaxy 4 and the phone that started my addition Galaxy S Captivate.
Any one have any good ROM,apps, and kernal recommendations would appreciate.

Hello,
So I decided to hop on this forum and check it out being I just ordered a new Android phone last Saturday. The last 3 phones I owned were an iPhone 5, iPhone 4, and iPhone 3GS. I am sure I will get bashed for that... lol. There are a few things that brought me to this forum/android. The main reason being I am currently attending a college for an Associates Degree in IT-Programming and I will be taking a mobile development class next semester which is all based around Android, and has nothing to do with IOS whatsoever. Another reason being my friend had a Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon that he really wanted to use on Net 10 (AT&T) and after about 2 hours I had everything working with an AT&T Sim card. (Although he only got Edge data speeds being it didn't support the proper bands for 3G/4G) Figuring this out for him really intrigued me and made me want an Android. This was my first time unlocking a bootloader, rooting, and converting an app to a system app.
The phone I decided to go with was an unlocked Sony Xperia ZL. Sure, I could have gotten an HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4, but I wanted to go with something different, and the fact that I had a $250 Sony Gift Card lying around, really influenced my decision. (Only ended up paying $290 for the phone after student discount, gift card, and free overnight shipping the sales rep gave me)
Anyways, I thought I would check out this forum and see about any good mods and such for the Sony Xperia ZL. Totally noob when it comes to Android.
Hi to you and welcome to Android!
I'm new to the forum but not new to the OS as my last mobile was a GNex. I have to say that you've started for good with modding and tweaking as you alerady know how to customize your andoird phone!
I am new to this entire undiscovered world for me and my GS4 will be soon flashed with some custom AOSP rom. Keep it up and all the best for your classes!
Welcome

So I got the phone yesterday. I love it. It is well worth the money I paid for it that is for sure. Seems fast and fluid. The screen is perfect, as well as the camera. No regrets choosing the Sony Xperia ZL over the HTC One and S4

Welcome to the forum!
Hey everyone, was hoping to get some honest advice on a phone choice. Currently I have a galaxy s4, I've had it for about 8 months now and just don't like having it anymore. I un-rooted it (after having some trouble) and upgraded to lollipop from 4.4.2. I'm still bleh about it. Don't like touchwiz at all, got sick of it back when I had an s2. So I'm looking to get a new phone in a week or two and can't decide on what to get. There's not too much to choose from, I have AT&T as my carrier so any of the droid phones are out of the question. Anyways, was just hoping someone could help me out. Thanks.
Hi,
I was wondering if you could help me with this, guys.
I have Note 1 and due for an upgrade with AT&T. I've repaired this Note 1 many times and changed a lot of faulty components. I have unfixable problems with GPS and power button sometimes (1/month) not working until full disassembly and a lot of cleaning (usually takes 2 days offline). I also have to go overseas for some time in June and wanted a new phone without problems and a better camera.
So here comes the Note Edge. I wanted to buy it but I need the root and don't want to get stuck for two years without it. I am looking for a phablet, so the Notes seem like a good candidate
So the question is: Is it worth to buy AT&T Note Edge now and wait for the root? Or should I hold out, wait until Note 5 comes out and risk having a broken phone overseas?
Thank you in advance,
G

I don't expect root any time soon. If you absolutely need it, you could always get a T-Mobile model and unlock it.

Thank you for the replyI was going to buy it through AT&T's 2 year upgrade program with a discount, so T-Mobile is probably out of question

Yeah, then you're probably out of luck with root. Otherwise you could try to find it used somewhere. Maybe in the future, there might be root for ATT, but don't hold your breath.
Hello,
First a litttle background (skip to the 2nd paragraph for the question): My first experience with Android and XDA came with the Galaxy S5... On AT&T. As you know, its not the most friendly phone when it comes to the development community but thanks to Safestrap, I was at least able to do some tweaking. But, shortly after I bought it, the Note 4 was released and I immediately wanted it... it became my dream phone. But, of course, on AT&T, its locked down just like the S5 (maybe even more so?). I then bought a Tab S 8.4 and had a much better experience with being able to customize the tablet how I wanted. When it came time to upgrade, I was going to buy the Nexus 6 so I could have complete freedom and once my upgrade date came, both AT&T and Best Buy both promptly stopped selling the Nexus 6. So, I decided to just say screw it, and bought the Note 5. While its a fast phone and Touchwiz is night and day better on it than it was on my S5, I really miss my root.
So, here's my question: I have been monitoring the forums and have seen that AT&T users with the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and the LG G4 have been able to successfully root. Ironically, I almost bought the G$, but bought the Note b/c of my desire for the Note 4. Anyway, if I were to buy a S6 Edge or G4 at Best Buy today, would it come with the stock firmware that is rootable (with Pingpong for the Samsung or flashing with the LG) or will they have been updated to one of the newer un-rootable firmwares? I'm not trying to get into an OEM debate here, I just want the best Android experience possible in my current situation and, unfortunately, that means buying an AT&T phone. I don't know if it matters, but If I buy the G4, it would be the silver H810 as I'd buy the leather back anyway and if I buy the S6Edge, it would be gold version with model number of SM-G925AZDAATT.
Thanks for reading and for any advice you can give!
PS.. There may be other rootable AT&T phones I don't know about and I'm open to them as well but at this point, I'm restricted to buying an AT&T phone through Best Buy. Thanks again!
Go with G4 I might be a little subjective but just start with the removable battery and micro sd card...
There's a thread for this.
