Would appreciate some advice. - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone, was hoping to get some honest advice on a phone choice. Currently I have a galaxy s4, I've had it for about 8 months now and just don't like having it anymore. I un-rooted it (after having some trouble) and upgraded to lollipop from 4.4.2. I'm still bleh about it. Don't like touchwiz at all, got sick of it back when I had an s2. So I'm looking to get a new phone in a week or two and can't decide on what to get. There's not too much to choose from, I have AT&T as my carrier so any of the droid phones are out of the question. Anyways, was just hoping someone could help me out. Thanks.

[Q] Which phone to buy?

Okay, so I'm eligible for an upgrade from T-Mobile tomorrow, and can choose any phone I want, and I am wondering which one would be best for me. Obviously, I'm looking for some sort of smartphone but I'm wondering what you guys think. With my last purchase, I found out how quickly I got outdated (yeah, G1) without root. So, what do you guys think?
(I've had my eyes on the G2 for a while. Opinions on it?)

[Q] stay with this phone or exchange?

hi everyone,
i have a quick question, i just upgraded my phone to the nexus s from sprint, they give me 13 days to return if i wanted to do that, the main reason i got this phone was for the NFC chip to be able to use google wallet, however i got it and i can't even use it becasue the prepaid card from google wallet is not working i called them and they say that the system is down and it wouln't go back on for about 2 weaks.
My question is do you guys think i should stay with this phone or i should bring it back and exchange to the galaxy s2 epic 4g?
thanks for all of your input on this.

I'd prefer a Nexus phone over anything. An unlockable bootloader if you want to flash your own ROM's and the fastest OTA's if you want to stay stock.
The only phone worth exchanging it for is the Galaxy Nexus, in my opinion. But I don't really see the need yet. The Nexus S is a great phone, even though the specs may be less astonishing than many new phones.

i heard that its going to be a will before that come out
I think the Nexus is definitely worth keeping. It's a great size, and there is still a massive amount of developing being done. Keep it ... you won't regret it.
Gs2 will be upgraded ics soon
If you have enough money, the answer is gs2
Stick with it!

thanks everybody for the replays
When I first got my NS4G I got bored of it quick. I was used to HTC Sense. I have almost traded it and/or sold it many times, but when it gets down to it I CANNOT part with this phone. The Nexus is one of the greatest phones. Pure Google, no Sprint or Samsung bloatware. I have learned so much with this phone.

[Q] best verizon phone

hey folks,
xda has been great. I have used info found to root and flash three different devises.
now I'm looking to up grade with Verizon. I'm grandfathered in on good rates. So, I come to the folks who know with this question, what phone would you all recommend?
I want to root and from as soon as it comes in, leave the Verizon junk in the trash bin and gain control before they lock me out of my own phone.
thanks in advance,
Donald Norman
I'm obviously biased, since I have a Nexus, but right now, that's the direction I would recommend. The Galaxy S3 sounds great, really, and it probably will be. But you know that updates for the Nexus will be fast and you know the development will keep going until you'd want a new phone. Might be the same for GS3, just don't know yet. The couple of complaints people have had about the Nexus have generally been fixed or can be tweaked with ROMs or, in the case of the camera, are personal preference. I do quick point and shoot with my phone, not expecting DSLR quality, and I have great results for my expectations.
Hope that helps a little.

You should totally get the Samsung Nexus, I mean they already have a way to root it, the update to ICS, and etc.

Galaxy S3 Locked Bootloader

Hey guys and girls.
I have recently got a warranty replaced S3 with the update 4.4. I know now this sucks because We cannot unlock the bootloader. Do you guys think that eventually we will be abe to do this and be able to have fun flashing all the different things these wonderful developers supply us with?
I broke my old S3 because I got mad at my girlfriend (ex now). I literally took my phone and snapped it in half in my hands. Now, I learn in the end I am only hurting myself. It would have been half worth it if I was able to get a replacement w/o this horrible stock update.

Looking for Help and suggestions.

Hello,
First a litttle background (skip to the 2nd paragraph for the question): My first experience with Android and XDA came with the Galaxy S5... On AT&T. As you know, its not the most friendly phone when it comes to the development community but thanks to Safestrap, I was at least able to do some tweaking. But, shortly after I bought it, the Note 4 was released and I immediately wanted it... it became my dream phone. But, of course, on AT&T, its locked down just like the S5 (maybe even more so?). I then bought a Tab S 8.4 and had a much better experience with being able to customize the tablet how I wanted. When it came time to upgrade, I was going to buy the Nexus 6 so I could have complete freedom and once my upgrade date came, both AT&T and Best Buy both promptly stopped selling the Nexus 6. So, I decided to just say screw it, and bought the Note 5. While its a fast phone and Touchwiz is night and day better on it than it was on my S5, I really miss my root.
So, here's my question: I have been monitoring the forums and have seen that AT&T users with the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and the LG G4 have been able to successfully root. Ironically, I almost bought the G$, but bought the Note b/c of my desire for the Note 4. Anyway, if I were to buy a S6 Edge or G4 at Best Buy today, would it come with the stock firmware that is rootable (with Pingpong for the Samsung or flashing with the LG) or will they have been updated to one of the newer un-rootable firmwares? I'm not trying to get into an OEM debate here, I just want the best Android experience possible in my current situation and, unfortunately, that means buying an AT&T phone. I don't know if it matters, but If I buy the G4, it would be the silver H810 as I'd buy the leather back anyway and if I buy the S6Edge, it would be gold version with model number of SM-G925AZDAATT.
Thanks for reading and for any advice you can give!
PS.. There may be other rootable AT&T phones I don't know about and I'm open to them as well but at this point, I'm restricted to buying an AT&T phone through Best Buy. Thanks again!
Go with G4 I might be a little subjective but just start with the removable battery and micro sd card...
There's a thread for this.
