questions on titanium backup - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I currently have a nexus 5, rooted, exposed installed phone.
However, I m thinking to use titanium backup to backup some of my app (maybe sytem data). I do have some questions tho.
1st, I heard it is not recommend to backup system data since they are not the same.. is it truth?
2nd, Since nexus 5 do not have a SD tray. If i would backup my apps data and format my phone later. Where can i store those backup files? Can i Move the titanium backup folder to my pc first, format my phone, install titanium backup on the new devices, move files back to the original location and hit restore? Can I do that? Or there is anyway to workaround?

1. Yes it is.
2. You can backup them in the cloud or on your PC. No problem to restore them later.

Can't do cloud since mine was free version
BTW, if I'm moving from lollipop to marshmallow. Does the back file still work ?

Yes (user data ONLY) but you need a permissive SELinux on Marshmallow.

I only plan to backup user app+data, won't do system data since it won't be compatible

Titanium backup won't restore apps under Marshmallow unless SELinux mode set to permissive...

No idea what is selinux... Is it hard to setup?
I guess I should stay away from marshmallow than.
What about restore within lollipop?

Just google for se linux mode changer app. Very simple to change to permissive. Needs root, but this does Titanium Backup too.

Titanium Backup

Quick question. There have been times where I've read that it's not good to restore stuff from Titanium Backup when flashing a new rom but is it on to just restore the apps without data? I think that's essentially the same as just downloading then from the market right?

At the batch menu you can restore missing apps with data. You just don't want to restore any system data.

I always restored my missing apps without data in the past (didn't restore any system) just to be on the safe side, but that's good to know that restoring data works fine for user apps.

Wanted to know what you did is it applicable if you are upgrading your rom from gingerbread to ics?
And i also did that but was always on gingerbread
I used titanium backup when for the first time to backup all my apps + app data and restore it after installing a new rom. It didn't work. It took forever to install the apps because I didn't pay for the premium version, and after it did install it didn't actually transfer the app data properly for most of my apps. My save games were lost and most apps didn't log me in from the save data.
So i downloaded Go Backup, which is much simpler to use and always works. Backsup all apps you want, and restores them in the same way titanium pro does, all at once without you having to accept each app. And the difference is my game saves and app accounts were auto logged in the first time I opened them. I would say Go Backup is a much better solution if all you need to do is backup apps + app data. Don't waste your time with titanium (and it's crappy UI).

Not entirely sure about that. I'd imagine so, but haven't had personal experience with such.

[Q] Nexus 5 root without having to wipe

Hi. I just wanna root my nexus 5. Is there any way to do that without losing data? Also, I'd prefer not to do a backup/restore. Thank you
you need an unlocked bootloader to root...unlocking wipes your data...there is NO way around this

It backsup all user apps and their data, not system apps and data and not music/video`s/pictures etc. A full backup is a nandroid backup made with a custom recovery like CWM/TWRP. BTW as your PC has a search function please use it (XDA, Google).

That's why u always make a backup, I don't understand, why did u wipe the device to root? U don't need to, unless u had to unlock the bootloader to, but that's simple enough, just make a backup, and no titanium backup probably doesn't work with 6.0 yet

Exactly
BTW Backup+ works on M.
EInstead of being unhelpful and spammy like the posts above, I'll help. Revert to supersu 2.49 and install the appropriate elemental x kernel.

I had the same issue, and although I didn't have the time to investigate it much, the problem seems to be the following:
Backups used to be located at
Code:
storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup (sdcard)
and they are now saved to
Code:
storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup
The second path is only accessible with a root browser. I think that if you've rooted your phone and you move (or better yet copy some for testing) your backups there, TB will see them again.
At first I thought it was a bug with TB and Android M, but now I start to wonder if it has something to do with ElementalX since I've also flashed that kernel to my device.
Use SELinuxModeChanger (Google it, is not in the play store) to set permisive mode. That worked for me
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
SELinux permissive mode is the solution! Kernel Audiutor has an installable plugin for changing SELinux mode.
Permissive mode is not working for me, for some reason. TitaniumBackup on Android 6.0/ElementalX v6.02/SuperSU v2.52 still saves at ''storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup'.
I tried both SELinuxModeChanger and the permissive.zip flashable that ElementalX post is supplying.

6.0 support was added with SuperSU 2.50+. Stop being unhelpful and spammy.
I'm having problem with titanium bkp. I had backup all my apps with data on 5.1.1 and flashed 6.0.1 rom. Now titanium bkp doesn't detect my bkp.
Tried many things like
copy bkp files to internal,
just made an app bkp and copy my bkp files to that folder etc.
still my TB doesn't detect my old bkp
Can you make sure that the filename casing is as TiBkp expects it?
Move away TitaniumBackup and data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup, then create a backup and see what TiBkp creates for these two folders.
I've had instances of TiBkp not seeing data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup because it was named Data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup (note the uppercase D at Data).

Titanium Backup Nougat

I noticed that with nougat rooted. Titanium Backup works with internal storage for backup and restore. But with ext. SD card (not show on display) will not backup on external storage due to Insufficient free storage space.
Anyone have a problem with it?
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Usually the warnings for insufficient space on external storage is from the app not having write permissions to the SD card.

In Titanium Backup go to Preferences then Backup Folder Location. Above Detect you should see "Storage Provider: Filesystem (click to change)". Tap on that, then tap "DocumentProvider storage" and it should bring up Documents app. Select sdcard from the list and then hit Select.

As it is rooted, you can easily remove them.
I use System app remover, easy to use and also possible to restore app if needed.

I have the problem that I only can download what I ever installed before, every new app comes with "Authentication is Required. You need to sign into your Google Account." No solution yet, only using a new account but then I don't get updates automatically for all installed apps.

Titanium backup - Nandroid

Hi all,
Currently running oos 10.0.3 and TWRP 74.
I'm trying to restore certain apps by extracting from a nandroid backup in TB.
But when I went to do it I'm shown only the partitions and no apps.
Can someone please advise if there's a setting I'm missing to enable?
Thanks
Why use Titanium? OnePlus Switch does the same thing.

Not for a particular app I'm using, swivel. Doing the nandroid extract method was the only way i could ever get it to restore data. Nothing else works

Thanks, but it makes no difference. It used to take up to a minute for TB to open the nandroid backup and then i could pick the app and or data, but things are very different now for some reason. I'll contact the Dev and report back.

Your last hope is making a nandroid backup of your current OS then restore your nandroid backup(where your app is) then take a titanium backup of that app then restore your lastest Android backup and restore your app with data.
I always recommend to take a titanium backup of all user apps to avoid your issue

Managed to get the data restored, but it wasn't via TB.
What i done was removed the specific app data from data/data/ from my nandroid backup from last month.
I then placed this into the same location on my phone with a file explorer. Rebooted the phone and all is good.
Can't understand why TB cannot restore this data like it does for every other app. But oh well, I'm back running! Thanks
