Verizon note pro 12.2 pre 5.1.1 lollipop system dump. - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As most are aware, Verizon released the latest version of lollipop for the Samsung note pro late last month. While the update seems to be a worth while improvement, it's not with out its quarks. The stock launcher for for the latest update is by far the the largest disappointment for me. Prior to the update, in the bottom left hand corner of the launcher, sat a very useful Google search icon. Now, Verizon saw fit to make this once useful real estate useless. Not even the smallest of widgets can utilize thus space now. This bugs me and my OcD. Anybody with the stock kitkat launcher or a vzw kitkat system dump.

Note 3 kitkat update thread

I hope that this doesn't contravene any rules (forgive me if so), but I thought it would be a chance to discuss official n3 kitkat news, information on what the next TW enhancements may be, if any, release dates, ROM leaks and anything that we are hoping for.
Honestly I can't imagine the phone running faster or smoother in the OS, but ART is an interesting feature, hopefully finally YouTube opens instantly with that...
There isn't much info online about a kit kat update as yet, however the few rumours that there are point to a January/February release.

I don't believe we'll see a kitkat update before s5
Guess the Note 3 will be updated directly to android 5 this time next year.
What makes you say they? Last year s3 got jelly bean after 3 months... The n3 is their current flagship device, there'd be stupid to leave it on an older system for a year with no updates...

Note 3 will get KitKat no doubt. Especially since they're pitching it in combo with their wearable devices. I personally expect it sometime at the end of Q1 in 2014
If s5 is to come with kitkat, then we will get after that so probably 6 months or so.

Raw speculation is utterly useless, the update will come when it comes. Right now, only ONE non-nexus device has received Kitkat and that was a more or less stock Motorola Device (keep in mind Motorola is now a Google owned company). Even Cyanogen isn't ready to push out their Kitkat builds for most devices.
...not to mention that, for example, here in Italy we've not yet received even the MJ7..., ...so to speak...

S5 looking like it will be the new Flagship if Samsung really does the Eye Scanner
http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2013/11/20/samsung-galaxy-s5-eye-scanner-further-evidence/
My guess is early next year. I'm not too fussed as I have a Nexs 5 running KitKat
The Note 2 is just now getting 4.3... I doubt the Note 3 is getting KitKat anytime soon.

hopefully they will release it very soooonnn..
Im sure that Note 3 will get android v4.4 KitKat Soon~
Hopefuly it will come before xmas :victory:
I think February is a good time to hope for, 3 months, like the first main updates for a new galaxy flagship tend to be.

I'd risk a Febuary date for release also, but if we are to believe sammobile and Samsung are testing KK, they may surprise us intime for Christmas! one can only hope
Kitkat will only come once samsung have been able to add their Mods and features to it.... and it's working properly. ... so if they are testing it already. .. Just a matter of time before they get it sorted. I don't think they'll wait for the s5 if everything is running properly. ... afterall.... The note 3 consumers are not the same as the s series consumers so pointless to hold of took s5 is ready. ... Just my thoughts. ..

January is my bet
I am currently running a hacked together KitKat on my Note 3 with little issue. Grab a pack of KitKat apk, design and system files and overwrite the system resources with them and you're up and going with a Touchwiz / KitKat hybrid. I used the W03 KitKat Experience pack and flashed that.

Samsungs Next Launcher/UI

Hopefully Samsung are working on a new UI/Launcher as im not a massive fan of TouchWiz and the lack of settings in the launcher. Does anyone know if we'll ever get a new "official" launcher update from Samsung on out Note 3's?
For some reason, I am realizing now that I love the feel of this nova+touchwiz launcher now.

Update to Android 4.4.3 is around the corner

Samsung is apparently getting closer and closer to releasing its first software versions based on Android 4.4.3.
The first devices to get an Android 4.4.3 build from the Korean company are going to be the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 3, it seems. That would make perfect sense, given how these are right now Samsung's flagships in their respective market segments.
According to a purportedly leaked internal document, the Android 4.4.3 updates for both Snapdragon and Exynos versions of the Galaxy S5 have been finalized and are due out before the end of this month.
In the case of the Galaxy Note 3, development has reached the final testing stage. If all goes well, the new bits should be ready to roll out to users sometime in July.
Previous such leaked documents surfaced last month, when the Galaxy S5's update was still being worked on. Now that it's finalized, the guessing game begins - which will be the first territory (or carrier) to get Android 4.4.3?
One thing to note is that the document pictured above has some odd font differences in it, which may indicate a bad Photoshop job. So do take this with a pinch of salt.
Further complicating things is the fact that Google has just released Android 4.4.4 to its Nexus devices, a version that seems to contain a pretty important security fix.
That leads us to wonder: will Samsung first release 4.4.3 for its devices only to then start working on what is now the latest version of the OS? Or will it choose to skip 4.4.3 altogether and simply come out with a 4.4.4 build, even if that means delaying the release for a short while?
Since the newest iteration of Android isn't bringing new things to the table, just fixing bugs, the latter hypothesis isn't completely implausible.

good news !
Wonder if this update will contain the new TW theme (S5). It looks very nice on a note 3, running a S5 port now on my device
I bet it will be on note 4 only

Samsung should migrate the Note 3 to the S5 Touchwiz and not keep it where it is. They have no reason not to and hopefully they do it by September/October.
LOL! i remember seeing that picture like a month ago even before 4.4.3 was officially released with S4 on top and S5 at the bottom, that's obvious photoshop job to the image to add Note 3 there
I'd rather they didn't. The Android 5.0 announcement is today, and if we get 4.4.3 now, it means we probably won't get 5.0 (the 2 version-number changing updates maximum policy in the contracts with Google.)

Someone who works for t mobile (Raziel) has said that the note 3 will receive 4.4.3 and android L update. He's been right before and I'm betting he'll be right again when the time comes.

Oh I know. I'm just saying I'd rather they skipped the middle update, because there's a limit as to how many larger updates a device will get.
And he's not the only one working for T-Mobile (Except I'm not with T-Mobile USA, but rather T-Mobile NL & it's mother company, Deutsche Telekom, as their Samsung expert.)
The point is that the US Branded devices have an entirely different schedule, since their devices also have their own device codes. The N900T has nothing to do with the N9005. And as such, the S3 in the US will get KitKAt, where the EU S3 will not, even the identical-to-the-NA-version 4G variant.

Greetings

Hello community
I haven't been here for 3-4 years (member since 2007) but I'm back as I need help. I was very big on ROM changing from early days of Windows phones (MDA, Wing, Tytn 2, etc) and later just about every Android I owned. But since 2012, I've been nothing but a Nexus user and due to pure stock OS, I stopped modding. I came accross a sealed T-Mob version of Note 3 (I'm on US T-Mob network) for a super low price and decided to pick it up while I wait for 6p to be available in configuration that I want. My question is this, should I invest some time and work into modding Note 3? I despise skins, touchwizz more then any other one but with Google now launcher, I can go around it. But that doesn't change drop down menu, settings menu, bloatware (most hated of all things). Since I've been out of the game for a while, I was wondering if there was a toolkit to help me install AOSP that will maintain good radio and kernel. Something like WugFresh used to be for Nexus 4. Thanks a bunch and glad to be back.
CM is very light compared to touchwise but for maximum spen performance you will need a TW based rom even tho you can get many of the functions for CM but it's just not the same. You can get TW roms completely debloated.
I suggest you flash a TW rom and test it for a few days and then CM to make up your mind about what you need and what not. Personally I prefer TW for spen functions over CM but had I had a phone without spen I would go for CM no matter what phone I had. TW + spen is by fare best in my opinion but everyone has there own views. You can still use other launchers with TW but you just need the TW framework for spen to work so if you like the Google now then use that on TW.
Toolkits for modding I would suggest tikklemyandroid and for flashing stuff there is a kit called my toolkit I think which is available for all the note 2, 3 and 4.

Not sure if you choose right section for opening this thread
But if you are about to do something, leave the TW bs alone, work for ANDROID 6.0
Thanks and welcome home.

Will S8 Plus ever get Stock Android and are you bothered?

I absolutely think it is the best phone currently in the market and all it needs is stock rom, to make it smoother faster and simpler.
Will it ever get stock android and how many are looking forward to it?
I wonder how many people are happy with TW and not bothered about custom roms or stock android?
I use Nova Launcher and very happy. Stock Android is dull as dishwater. I enjoy some of the Samsung apps. If you don't like them, disable them. Samsung won't ever provide stock. They'll have nothing to sell! Its not in their interest.
A S8+ with stock android would lose all of the features that make it a great phone. (ie. Edge apps, themes, bluetooth sound on 2 devices, IRIS Scanner, Gear VR, Samsung Pay)
Exactly. Giving the Galaxy S8 phones stock Android from Samsung itself would ruin the whole point of the Galaxy S8 phones. You would lose so many features that way that the Galaxy S8 / S8+ would just be a blinged out Pixel phone.
Ofc, having the ability to install a custom Stock Android version is always a nice idea to have for those who really want it. But having that as an option from Samsung directly is NOT a good idea.
EDIT: riz157, the UX / UI is not called TouchWiz anylonger. It's called Samsung Experience now on the Galaxy S8 phones. When Galaxy S6 and S7 phones got Android 7.0, they got the earlier Grace UX that was before Samsung Experience.
Just and FYI.......Bluetooth on two devices at the same time is a product of Bluetooth 5.0 not Samsung.
Used custom rom on my S7E, (AOSP - which sucked ass, no features, then I used SupermanROM and I sticked to that.
Now I got my S8+ and I'm pretty happy with Samsung experience, so I won't be doing anything at all, I'll keep my Knox: 0x0 for now.
Interesting looks like most people are quite happy with Samsung experience. Admittedly it's vastly improved from previous versions but still shows signs of delay lag etc.
Not as buttery smooth as stock android.
I personally don't use Samsung stock apps other then email app.
Bump up
I would love of the old GPE program came back. Then I'd be happy to spend $850 on a S8+ GPE. It's just WAY SMOOTHER and cleaner UI and always up to date. But Samsung makes the best hardware.
I love the S8+ and feel the Samsung features built into it help make it special. I always flash custom roms, but they keep many of the Samsung tools/TW tools I like. Having said that, I also like AOSP based roms and if the S7 Edge is any example, it won't be too long until we get some to play with on our S8+ phones sometime in the future. (it took about 8 months or close to a year before AOSP Roms were available on the S7 edge) - but considering how close the S7 is to the S8 - it may not take that long. Time will tell.
And NO I am not bothered - what is there to be bothered about?
I'm looking forward to more custom roms because it gives s8 more freedom and change the themes fonts etc easily without having to purchase from Samsung and be limited to their poor options.
Samsung are trying to be apple of android, want you to purchase from there store themes etc. So glad there's competition in android world otherwise we would be locked down to samsung and apple!!
Doubt it, and I am not bothered.
Personally I find the S8+ faster and mostly smoother than the Pixel I had before. Mainly because the Pixel lags to hell and back in apps like Instagram and Facebook whereas the Exynos S8+ doesn't.
Over time I am sure the S8+ will slow down but like PC's I will just "Format it" and it will back to being much faster and generally smoother than the Pixel (and less buggy than the pixel)

Most people prefer TW, after using it for several weeks on my S8 plus I'm still not convinced.
I still would like stock and more custom Roma, at the moment there's not much choice which is a shame.
I certainly hope that changes in the coming weeks.
Not bothered at all. My personal opinion:
Want stock Android? Get a Pixel (or Nexus)
Want bleeding edge hardware? Get any flagship Android phone
The nice thing about Android is the individuality of each company brings. Samsung with its own Samsung UX for the S8 (not TouchWiz, not Grace UX), LG with their Full-Screen UX for the G6, Huawei with EMUI for their Mate 9 and P10, and so on.. They all put in their own features that would make their phones stand out. They all work quite well and I never had to install a launcher since my S6 Edge Plus. But still the option is there if you want/need to.
Has everybody forgotten that this happened once?
https://www.engadget.com/2013/07/06/samsung-galaxy-s-4-google-play-edition-review/
I would love to see a developer edition of this phone (aka stock android). I do like that TouchWiz isn't so smothering lately, but there are many aosp-isms that I miss.
My perfect phone would be a pixel that looked like an S8+ running stock Android. That would be one sexy piece of kit. I hope we can at least root and rom this puppy one day. I'm a dreamer...
samsung ui got better, but I'm using a moto z2 play now for half the price and......they understood perfectly what a manufacturer has to do. Moto has pretty much vanilla experience except of some apps, some add on funcionality, it's far more sexy than samsung. It's extremely speedier with half the price, it's a pain that samsung always bloat their software for no new functionalities (irid scanner? ahahahahah, samsung pay? ==> android pay, side apps? always the first thing I disable in samsung edges). It got better then natural ui on s4, yes, but that was a big ****, this is only a little and less smelly **** compared to stock experience....to me, obviously
This is dumb. If I wanted stock Android I wouldn't buy a Samsung.
You needing to take the time out of the day to write this is dumb lol
