Hello,
I am having problems with a second-hand skyrocket and the rear (main) camera. The guy who sold it to me told me he did something to it (software-wise) that broke the rear camera and it won't initialize or display/take pictures from it. I have downloaded a few different camera apps that would try to initialize or start the rear camera to no affect, but skype, google hangouts, and rear camera only apps work fine.
I have tried going from stock 2.3.6, stock 4.0.4, stock 4.1.2, and most recently both CM 10.1.3 and 10.2 nightly on it to no avail. Most recently on the CM roms, when I open the camera app, it opens (like all other camera apps will, with a black screen), but it says "unfortunately Gallery has stopped" where with the stock roms it will say the Camera has stopped.
I noticed a thread with a possibly similar theme here, but since that thread is a few months old, I'm referencing that one and starting a new one.
Additionally, I found a .zip file with individual camera firmware (or software updates) out there, at least 25 in fact in a 5.83mb zip with the following instructions
- Extract the .bin file to the internal sd card
- type *#34971539# into the dialer
- select "phone to cam FW write"

But no matter the firmware I tried to flash, and flash back to the SDEH0D (or back to any of the others), that didn't seem to help. I didn't try all 25, but I did choose about 7 ones staggered from that list.
Any other thoughts or comments, tests or experiments? I'd really appreciate any direction
I'm not an expert on the issue that you're having, But I have encountered a Gallery force-close when starting up the camera. In some of the newer ROM's available today, the camera and gallery are linked. Meaning you can swipe either left or right while inside the camera app and go into your gallery. Anyway, Seems to me that it goes a bit beyond just a software fix. Could be that the camera itself is broken. The only reason I say that is because you say that you've tried several different ROM's and some supposed software fixes, but it's still not working. I would say that if you can, try and find a proper fix that you can either flash in recovery or push to your phone using ADB. I'll do some digging of my own and see what I can come up with.
Hello guys,
I have a problem with the camera on Nubia z9 max.
First off: I have had a Oneplus one before and used it with Franco Kernel and the FV-5 camera app.
In the FV-5 app, there are settings for contrast, saturation and sharpness of the photos, which would let me choose on a scala from 0 - 36 for each of the settings, resulting in great photos when adjusted right. Now on the Nubia z9 max, it only let`s me choose only from 0 - 4 (which doesn`t seem to change anything in the final picture) when on firmware 3.0.3 based on android 5.0.2, while on firmware 3.5.2 based on android 5.1.1, all three settings were completly locked to zero....Also it seems that no matter what ISO i`m choosing (be it in FV-5 or the original camera app), the ISO setting is automatically adjusted by the phone. Basically, all important camera settings are working in Auto mode, and auto mode sucks on this phone.
Now my question is: Could this be related to the Kernel (It seems to me that my Oneplus camera made much better photos with franco kernel than with stock) and if yes, is there anything i can change as an amateur to unlock/change the camera settings? Unfortunately, there are no custom Kernels around for this phone....

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. There is no forum specifically for the Nubia Z9 Max at this time but I suggest that you ask your question with all relevant details in the friendly general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help. That's a good place to start where members familiar with your device might be able to advise you. I also see a number of references to your model from a site search at http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=nubia z9 max such as the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/nubia-z9-max-faq-root-twrp-cyanogenmod-t3187000 which might be worth reviewing.
Good luck!
Thanks for the answer. I will try it in the android forums as suggested. I also saw that thread by the user dianlujitao, but unfortunately i can`t post there, since i`m a new user.
But thank you anyway.
Hello,
Are there any apks that are capable of modding the camera? My phone is a G Flex 2 and it has a very capable camera + sensor, but its default (and unchangeable to my knowledge) setting is overexposed, sharp, and grainy. I don't believe there are any available firmware flashes to it at this point in time, either.
I'm looking for some software that will allow me to manually modify my camera's settings, but not just inside of one external app like L Camera. I want to be able to get more out of my camera in apps that access it automatically, too, like snapchat.
I tried googling for this, but the thing I'm looking for is ambiguous enough that I can't find any good definitive info on it; only firmware mods for Motorola or the G2.
Do any of you know of such an app?

Hope this helps, and good luck!
I've had luck with Open Camera:

Using MANUAL CAMERA and have bought the phone recently.. A week ago. Auto mode looks good but gonna have to test extensively in different conditions!
Hello, anyone installed modded Google camera at XZ Premium?
It doesn't work, it requires Camera2 API (I think full mode) which is not supported by the XZp.
I read somewhere that SONY uses a modified version of the API which is why it causes the Google Camera app to crash.
https://source.android.com/devices/camera/versioning
This explains everything. But I am not quite sure which one Sony actually using. AFAIK it's legacy.
Edit: Yes it is Legacy.

I read that we can custom enable camera2api, but from recovery mode, anyone tried it?
Thing is there's an issue with the camera with unlocked bootloader. They're working on a DRM fix for unlocked bootloader.
But what's this custom enable cameraAPI2? cause I really wanna enable that so we get full control over. But I highly doubt we will be able to.

Yes, it instantly crashes.
So if you have phone rooted and u want to install camera 2 api with some guides about it, on the xzp will not work properly? For works it must have a modded camera 2 api from xda develpers?
Edit: and if we install magisk and the relative camera 2 api module?
1) https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
2) https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-camera2api-enabler-t3656651

We have already discussed and tried it over here.
But there is a magisk update released on 6 September

If I'm wrong, sorry for all I'm only trying to be helpful
The camera2 api is enabled by default (it was on my device) on XZP, but they limited the functionality for 3rd-party apps. RAW is not supported and the resolution is limited @ 8,3MP (back) and @ 13MP (front). I didn't found a way to brake the limits. I have no idea if it's possible.
Not all 3rd party apps are limited. FV-5 (force legacy drivers), open camera, a better camera, Camera ZOOM FX
Google open sources deeplap v3 technology
Hey guys Google open sources deeplap v3 in github
Can anyone use this repository and create a camera mod for Xperia XZ Premium if possible??.
Waiting for developer to respond,
Thanks in advance
Hi KGV! you made my Day!
The devs here on Sony's XDA either are paid by Sony, either Sony's employees, either lazy, either they have bought Samsung phones, either Sony really encrypted their software.
Don't expect something like this.
Hat down for Storm, Turbo and Munjeni.

Dude but what can we do for portrait mode??
It would be awesome if it works
(Don't say me to edit pics in snapseed nor picsart for portrait)
I am not a big fan of portrait mode, but I really think Sony's Bionz camera software is better than Google HDR + at least for our sensor.
Instead of running for fantasies, maybe you try to learn how our Bionz works. You wont be dissapointed.
Now a good thing will be to port XZ2 camera to our XZP.
Google is our friends and they're are tons of patched Google camera mods out there. I am currently running it with aosp

Which one are you using i tried different cameras and still not working
Hi fellas,
I recently bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S, and aside from the fact that it's still running Android 10 over MIUI 12.0.3.0 (Global / EU since I'm in France) when everybody else and their cousin seems to have switched to Android 11 already, everything's peachy with the phone.
My question is borne more out of curiosity than necessity: How better would my photos be if I installed Gcam (Google Camera), rather than keep on using OpenCamera or the Xiaomi app the phone ships with? Would I really see an improvement in the way the Gcam software treats images?
If you think I'd get to gain from the install, then a second question comes to mind: How to install the config file that comes with most of the builds I've found here and there? Last time I installed Gcam on the phone, the config file came separately, and however hard I tried to follow instructions, I never managed to load the config file, so I ditched the app altogether. Patient, I am not for that kind of thing, I'll confess.
So, what gives?

gcam use some algorithm to enhance photos to high dynamic range (HDR). you may get better image if you use proper gcam made for your phone.
secondly, config file can be loaded in settings of most gcam. you can use youtube or any tutorial to see how to load configs.
Thanks for your reply, Bhanu. It was my understanding that what Gcam does, mostly, is to apply some sort of software "magic" to what the sensors record, and in this respect, the 48MP main sensor on the Note 9S isn't too shabby, so I'd really like to give it a try, but as I said in my OP, every time I did what was advised in the tutorials I read, i.e. press somewhere in the camera interface (left of the capture button), I always got the same "no config file to load" message, although I had a config file waiting to be installed, one that I had downloaded along with the Gcam .apk file, so I was wondering if there were APKs that already contained said config file, and if so, where can I find them?
For example, this article points at two different builds based on Gcam 8, but it doesn't mention where to find the config file that goes with either one of them.
hi, i like the way you replied,
about gcam i have found v7.4 its recommended to use v7 because they are relatively stable.

just open app and go to settings and developer settings and disable use google photo to use it.
or simply install google photos to make this version work.
