Trident and Nexus 4

I just wanted to let you guys know that I was curious to see if Trident would be willing to make a case for the nexus 4 or if they had any plans yet.
Asking them on their Facebook page seemed like a good idea and this is what happened... (short N' simple)
Me: Hey Trident, do you have any plans for cases for the newly released Nexus 4??
Trident: Looks like we will have an Aegis case for it, but I don't have any dates yet
Me: any chance for a Kraken
Trident: Not sure about a Kraken yet....if I hear something I will let you know
TLR Version: They are planing on making a Aegis case for the Nexus 4, no planned release date yet, not no new on a Kraken case from them yet.
I was praying for a Kraken case, but an Aegis is good enough protection for now... however the Kraken has pretty cool accessories and a KICKSTAND!! (miss it so much from my OG Evo4G days...)

i just a reply from otterbox and they say that at the moment they don't have any plans on making a case yet at this moment...

I had the kraken for my og evo and it doesn't have a kickstand, it just has an opening for the kickstand. I don't think it has one built in for other phones.

I will definitely pick up that case, looks fine on the galaxy nexus via the trident website and I do not want to have to baby this phone beyond reason. People are always going to cry saying it makes the phone too thick but they will be the ones with scratches and cracked backs

the AMS kraken come with an extreamly versatile kick stand that can be flipped to the other side and even taken you to be used with many of their accessories! just awesome

Good to hear. I had emailed them with the same question but no response yet. Hoping they do a Kraken as well, have one on my Droid X and love it. Even got a few different color skins for it.
As for the thick phone thing, some of us have jobs that require getting in and out of vehicles, walking around in factory and construction environments and so on. The Kraken has saved my phone many times from falls in such places. Protect your tools.

The title of my email was "LG Nexus 4 Case"
Basically she told me they were not working on any Nexus 4 case.

I vote we spam their facebook page until we get a Kraken - let them know how much we want it.

I also commented on the Trident facebook page about my disappointment that a Kraken wasn't (at least currently) being publicly considered for the N4 and the post was actually hidden from their timeline as soon as they saw it. That kind of disappoints me. Their response was "If we get any word on a Nexus 4 case we will let you know.... the Nexus 7 Aegis case should be available around the first few weeks of Dec."
They may have hid my comment because I pointed out that the Aegis (had one on my SGSII) is nowhere near the caliber of the Kraken (have one on my Gnex). Even the (I believe retired) Cyclops line (had one on my Glacier) is better than the Aegis. If the N4 has a glass panel on the back...I do not trust the Aegis. I will probably look at other brands for a more protective enclosure.
Or they may have hid it because I pointed out that if Trident follows the way of the Otter and favors Apple development, people may move on to other brands. I would consider doing so. I mean, there is a case for the iPad mini already but nothing for the Nexus 7 until a few more weeks? The Apple stuff is positively rushed out but that's not the case for all products.

No Otterbox for nexus 4 but OG

At the moment being the key words.

My understanding is that they pretty much always say that, right up until they do make one. I'm still hoping for one.

Don't be so sure, they never produced a case for the Nexus S, I used the Seidio Active for that handset and was glad Otterbox produced a case for the Galaxy Nexus.

They got one for the nexus 7 now, didn't have that for the longest time. What I don't get is how they had the iphone 5 and ipad mini cases ready at launch but it takes them 6 months for a nexus?

Because they know that their ROI (return on investment) will be high. iProducts tend to sell very well.
It's not a matter of Otterbox is having troubles making a commuter or defender case for the Nexus 4 or whatever device you want it on. It's a matter of the business perspective, they don't want to make a case if there isn't enough demand for it because they won't get a ROI back on it.

Well I know they'll make one its just when you need it now it sucks. They did eventually make with the nexus 7 case even though they said they had no plans to. In the meantime I ordered a diztronic, but might grab a commuter when it comes out if it's small and stylish like the galaxy Nexus case, probably won't if it's like my commuter on my Vivid... Very bulky and hard to touch the sides of the screen!

Yeah I can't wait, need a case right away when I get the nexus 4, I ordered a ditztronic. They claim they aren't going to make one, but they are fos. My insignificant htc vivid, a mediocre lte phone slotted in to fill the gap between the inspire 4G and the one x has otterbox cases, in fact I am rocking the commuter on mine right now. If they'll make a case for the Vivid, they'll make a case for anything

I'm about over otterbox anyway, too bulky and ugly. You can't beat the protection but even the commutter I have on my vivid is big and ugly

Hence the if you feel so inclined. Not everyone likes otterboxes or bulky cases in general but given that the OP obviously wants one I figured I would post it. If you don't care about otterboxes, that's cool maybe the thread isn't for you.
Also be aware there are a number of styles of otterboxes and some are pretty slim. Everyone thinks of the defender but there are others such as the reflex and the prefix. It would also be nice if they made an armor case for it for those who want a waterproof case. Better chance of Otterbox than lifeproof on that one.

Case Mate Tough Case also is very good dropping protection, but sadly the don't support the n4 either

Yeah I say screw otterbox. They've been kissing apples ass too long, ridiculous all the options you can get for an iphone, where as an android phone you get black. And my commutter I had on my vivid was poorly designed with the screen bumpers being in the way of typing in portrait, and my proximity sensor never worked right with it on either.
There are plenty of nicer and more stylish options if you need a heavy duty case. So let otterbox get on with their apple love affair and buy another manufacturers case!

I just contacted them and they said that they thought maybe the Dilex would be the first case BUT that decision has not yet been made. The employee further explained that the product team was still evaluating their options to decide what products would best make sense.
So it sounds to me that we're at least some weeks away before we can pre-order any Seidio cases.

I saw something on their twitter stream say they weren't going to make OBEX cases for either Nexus, but if they have improved their holster durability and the rubber holding onto the phones isn't so soft anymore I'd be happy to get one again. Great looking cases.

They use a TPU now instead of a silicon so its much better in my opinion.

Oh really??? Hmmm, if they've fixed the kickstand thing (always being off centered so your phone flips to landscape when laying flat) I will definitely look at them.

noooo! surface all the way. my only real concern is how they'll shape the cutout for the fingerprint sensor. hopefully its a bit more ergonomic than what ive seen so far

I asked Seidio on 10/3 if they would be making a Surface case for the 6P, as that is by far the best case I've ever had. Hopefully a case of a clueless customer service rep, but here is their reply from an e-mail on 10/5:

Well its not a big loss because if they can't commit I won't miss their cases. I'm rather disappointed by the lack of good cases lately. Oe wish people would take the Nexus line seriously instead of making it an after thought

I love the Otterbox Commuter line of cases. The Galaxy Nexus ruined it with Otterbox. The size differences between the GSM and CDMA versions caused huge headaches with customers who dont know and dont care about the difference. Many sales, too many returns and exchanges, and now Otterbox says "f you, Google". Well I say "f you Verizon" for constantly dictating how phones should be.

I had to clean up my floor after mentioning it. It looks like a dorm room hallway on a Saturday morning with all of the vomit. The M9 still has more case variety than we will see with this phone which is the sad part.

i love seidio products, but man i hate this company. iphone cases are out a month before the phones hit the shelves. flagship nexus devices? well what you need to do is continually email us, fill out a stupid request form as many times as you can, sit and wait for 2 months and THEN we'll release it for you. bull****

Exactly what I'm hoping for too. It looks like they don't make all the holsters for a lot of android devices. I hope the 6P is the exception.
That's good news they made it for the N6 at least.

Carved.com has no plans to produce cases for the 6P.

Disappointing as I wanted to continue over my case from my Nx5. I'm not sure but if we ask enough times they may change their mind?

This is very unfortunate. I'm shocked they made Samsung and really old Nexus cases but refuse to make one for the 6P.

Functionally they're literally identical to the #WoodBack Explorer cases made by Cover-Up, but Carved seems to offer a much wider range of designs beyond different types of wood grain, with their coloured resin swirls. You definitely pay a premium for that extra level of uniqueness, though! I'm pretty happy with my aromatic cedar #WoodBack case, but I'm not going to deny that Carved makes some really slick-looking cases, too

I believe they have released a number of cases for our 6P under the Satellite series.

Speck Candyshell Grip

Finally got my white Speck case today. It feels great. The cutouts are wonderful, and the USB C cable fits perfectly. My only complaint is that it's a bit difficult to get the case off after you put it on. It is possible though.

Very nice, makes me wonder if I should have chosen white over black! Mine should arrive today (hopefully), do you think a TGSP will fit well with the Speck?

I'm not sure. My TGSP arrives today. It might be a tight fit. Also, I was able to perform a screenshot without any problem, which is another complaint if some other cases.

Yes very tight fit, careful taking it out. Loving mind so far, have the Google case with logo and liking the candy shell way more. Great grip.

Is the speck case overall wider than the fabric backed Nexus logo case?

Man I bought the black version but after seeing those pics I will buy the white one soon.

I have this exact case (with the same color). I highly recommend it.
It looks sleek and feels very hardy and rugged, like if I drop it I'll have absolutely no dents / scratches.
And it becomes pathetically easy to grab this inherently-slippy phone, which is the biggest plus out of all of them. Going to need it while walking in the New York City winter.

A little bit wider, dual layer and then the ridges add a tiny fraction. Dunno if I've been rough but case seems to scratch on the black easy enough. Doing its job anyhow ??

hmm. I mean free shipping and everything if I don't like it but I don't know. my ultra hybrid is great with a tempered glass, except the buttons are meh and I know that this speck case is a good case but I also know how it adds bulk. how do you feel about the poetic affinity case @zephiK?

Yup the only thing that I dislike about the Ultra Hybrid are the buttons, luckily we have the fingerprint scanner + my ROM has dt2s on status bar and navigation bar so I can bypass the buttons.

Glad to see that you've been enjoying the ride. It's nice to run away from the Chroma dev thread for awhile, it gets a bit crazy over there.
I'm just afraid that the 15% is the best we're going to get. Probably what I'll do is I'll wait for them to reply via Twitter, and then if they don't I'll just either skip and see if there's a better deal or just go for it. The Speck case does look really good, it'd be really nice if someone who has a Speck case to give some insight on how much extra bulk it would add compared to a Spigen ultra hybrid.
I don't blame Best buy, 6P doesn't have any physical store presence so it wouldn't make any sense for them to have any inventory in stores for 6P cases if the phone isn't offered at Best Buy Mobile.

I'm just afraid that the 15% is the best we're going to get. The Speck case does look really good, it'd be really nice if someone who has a Speck case to give some insight on how much extra bulk it would add compared to a Spigen ultra hybrid.
