I have a relatively severe issue with the Bluetooth audio quality on my phone. It sounds pretty much exactly like 64kbits MP3, you can especially hear it in the high frequencies. It's somehow distorted and unclear and extremely annoying as it ruins the experience totally. Everyone who heard sound over my Bluetooth devices has heard this.
The weird thing: I experienced this with both my Galaxy S5 (G900F) and my Galaxy S6 (G920F) and every single Bluetooth device that is connected to them. I tried it with my Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter, Denon AVR X1100W, Logitech Boombox and my car stereo Kennwood KDC-BT35U. The audio quality is always the same.
However, with my Nexus 5, my Galaxy Tab S8.4 and my Laptop, the audio quality over Bluetooth is great! Also, if I use the headphone jack on my Galaxys, it sounds just fine. I mostly use Spotify and Google Play Music, but the problem is not there since it sounds great when using a cord.
I asked the Samsung Support about this and of course they didn't know anything. They offered replacing the device but I don't think that this makes a difference since I had the same problem on my Galaxy.
Now I am asking everyone else who has the Galaxy S5 or S6, have you experienced something like this? Any solutions? It is very frustrating.
I just solved this mystery. For a long time I have been using the Mi Fitness Band, and I was wearing it all the time, so whenever that is connected to the phone the audio quality gets very bad. At least I know what it is now!

If my Mi Band 2 is paired in the Mi Fit app, the audio quality of ANY connected bluetooth device (aux speaker, car audio etc.) is distorted (especially high sounds)
I reinsatlled the Mi Fit app, even reseted the whole phone, nothing changes. Only if I unpair the Mi Band in the mi fit app, is the bluetooth audio quality ok.

I experienced the same when i playback via Bluetooth in my car. Since i installed Poweramp beta, you can choose some different type of audio playback quality. I set mine at 24 bit playback, 192 khz. I can hear some slight difference but i think you can not expect much of it.
Second option might be Viper4android and Dolby Atmos. These will increase earsgasm at your desire.
Give it a try and report feedback!

Poweramp has unbelivable awesome effects, but it does not eliminate the base problem: miband (or any Bluetooth LE stuff?) affects the bluetooth audio transmission.

Hi! I'm interested in buying the Desire Z, but I'm not familiar with the sound quality on A2DP headphones on Android. On WM there are settings like bitpool in the registry that can change the quality a lot, but as far as I read, there are no such settings on Android and the quality is really bad.
Is it true or is there a way to change some settings to improve quality? This is really important to me and I don't think I would be buying a phone that can't play my music properly.
My htc hero and car stereo utilizes A2DP perfectly, streaming audio to car speakers. Have not noticed any bad quality, not åk expert though

Btw, have you had any disconnects and things like that?
I tested my jabra BT320s on a desire I have access to and the A2DP was spot on, it used the handsfree function aswell without issue pausing the music then carrying on after the call etc...
Am impressed, this was with stock tmobile UK firmware aswell.

I hope it is possible to somehow tweak the a2dp sound quality since i think it's all a question of a2dp audio quality settings.
It has the be said though that in contrast to nokias bluetooth implementation the android one does handle switching from music to phone calls and back quite flawlessly.

Is it as good as coming from the phone speakers? does the software allow to equalize the output? looking for a phone just for my car that works good with bluetooth, does not cost that much and has equalizing software built in... My personal phone now is a Note 5 but damn SoundAlive+ crashes when using Google Play Music and turning off the equalization sounds horrible...

BT good for me. Viper4android Works great for eq.
Bluetooth is fine. Its HQ SBC. No Apt-X support. Only EQ available is the terrible JBL "enhancement". Luckily it can be turned off.
On my S6, when I am connected to the bluetooth device I have in my truck (Himbox HB01 Plus) that has apt-X, if I have both the Call Audio and Media Audio settings within the Bluetooth profile for that device enabled, the sound through the speakers is extremely poor, like a 32-64kbps stream even though using a 192kbps or higher mp3 and a native player. If I turn off the Call Audio setting, instantly the quality improves drastically to what I would expect it to be. I had a friend try with his Samsung Nexus device and he didn't have any such issue with the same bluetooth device. Prior to the Himbox, I had another bluetooth adapter w/o apt-X in the truck that acted the same which is what prompted me to try the Himbox thinking maybe the S6 needed this codec to stream properly. Unfortunately there was no change.
Does anybody have a similar problem or more importantly a fix? Is this a hardware issue with the phone or if I flash a custom ROM could this fix the problem as it has something to do with the Samsung programming? I didn't have any issues with my S4 and from what I gather researching online it is a S6 & S7 issue. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Does such a thing exist? I would like to have wireless headphones and watch shows but normally there is always a lag that bothers me too much to even attempt it. Has bluetooth 5 or even 4.2 fixed this?

Don't use wireless headphones but, boeffla kernel allows direct DAC output, which may allow some improvement.
Else you can pay for MX player pro and adjust audio sync with any downloaded or streamed video mx can link to.
App based streaming, such as ITV player is limited to hardware. Bluetooth will have delay, because audio has to be converted to bluetooth transport with then must be converted back to audio. Plus the transport is slow in comparison to the faster DAC.
I'm sorely upset with how bad the bluetooth music streaming is with my Hizpo Branded XRC MTCE. I'm to the point where I want to dump it and get something else since the one thing I wanted when I bought it was good music streaming. From all my reading on here, it seems like this is a major issue with all MCTD/MTCE units, is that true? Does anyone actually have a MTCD/E unit that has decent sounding bluetooth audio streaming?

The fyt based units have great a2dp streaming, no issues here. Most common reseller of these is joying.

Are these MTCD/E's? Im not familiar with FYT. What's the best way to identify these?

I suffered with poor a2dp Bluetooth streaming for quite a while on a GS (xtrons) android 6 headunit and on my current GS android 8 headunit.
Last week I did the sound mod with the modded mcu and improved amplifier app which improved my sound quality dramatically.
I then set about trying to improve the poor a2dp sound yet again and managed to kind of get it near perfect but not quite.
It was down to the sound settings on the EQ on my iPhone. I Bluetooth stream my music from my phone using Apple Music. I went into settings and then music and in there is the EQ setting. This has many settings like rock, pop, etc etc and mine was previously set by me to Bass Booster so my phone was set to a Bass setting and then the headunit is set more to a Bass setting so this must have been too much as I always got a distorted sound in the background when using a2dp. So in the EQ on my Iphone I set it to off. Instantly the sound is 10 times better as now it’s just my headunit producing bass etc etc. This has bugged me for over a year including my old headunit and now compared to what it were like before I’m finally happy with the quality of music through the a2dp app.

very interesting. I just checked my iphone and the EQ was set to 'electronic' I changed it to flat. Lets see how that does.
Did you do the 7thfloor mod? Did that, at all, help the a2dp streaming situation?
the EQ change made no difference. still distortion at the upper frequency range.

No, the mod I have done is the bd375 sound processor mod with the modded GS mcu and new amplifier app.
Once I completed that then I fine tuned the EQ settings to my liking on the headunit. Then on my iPhone I went to settings and music and turned the EQ off. I tried all the EQ settings on my iPhone but nothing was as good as when I set it to OFF.
Now I’ve done this I wouldn’t say the sound is perfect through a2dp Bluetooth but it’s a hell of a lot better than what it were before.
