Can't run Android TV apps (WWE Network) - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, so I have a Shield Tablet (stock, not rooted) and want to watch WWE Network from outside the US, but the WWE Android app requires GPS verification that though I can fake, but the process takes very very long every time I select another video to watch and for some reason the streaming quality is always in SD.
There is a WWE Network app on Google Play for Android TV that doesn't have the GPS verification, but I can't download it with a non-Android TV device. So I grabbed it somewhere else and sideloaded it to my tablet. It did install, but I can't open it. The "Open" text in the window that comes up after sideloading an apk is greyed out or missing (can't remember anymore), and the app is nowhere to be found besides in the app management settings.
I mean, why can't I run the app? Afaik Android TV is a restricted version of the full Android, so the full Android should be able to run Android TV apps, right?. Is there a hack that lets me run Android TV apps on my tablet? Can I perhaps install Android TV on my tablet if nothing else works?
Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Anyone please?

how to gain access to google tv apps to use with other devices. is there even a point

i am looking for the Airtight app that will let me stream content from IOS device to my MK802 Android 4.0 USB stick that i have hooked up to my TV. since it is a GTV native app, i cannot get it from the play store on either my galaxy note or my allwinner 10 device spoofing a xoom tablet.
since iGTV is basically just like any other android device my MK802 should be able to run it. is there a way to spoof the play store to get the app, or is there anything i can do to get it ?
Any progress on this? I would also like to use the GTV UI on another Android device...

[Q] Installing & Running Android TV apps on a tablet?

I have a Nvidia Shield Tablet running Android 5.0. This tablet has HDMI so I think it would be useful if I could run some of the apps designed for Android TV on it.
I was able to extract the APKs from the Nexus Player factory image. LeanbackLauncher, LeanbackKeyboard, etc. None will install properly on the tablet though. Install fails without any details. Eventually it would also be nice to get the Netflix TV app (com.netflix.ninja) too.
Has anybody had success doing this, or ideas on how to accomplish it?

Netflix keymap

The android version of Netflix's player you find on google play is very difficult to use if you don't have a touch screen.
All the keyboard shortcut have been disabled! save for the <left> <right> and <esc> keys.
Perhaps there is some setting that can be configured in the file: /data/data/com.netflix.mediaclient/shared_prefs/nfxpref.xml
To enable keyboard controls and better yet allow some sort of keymap to "map keys to netflix functions like <pause>"
The remote I got with my android TV box is seen as a keyboard inside android.
In summary, Netflix performs well on Android TV boxes, but it’s very annoying to control.
I am sure many users face this problem with Netflix on generic Android TV box.
Has anybody managed to find a work around to this?
Thanks
There is a version of the netflix player for "Android TV" but it does not seem to work on regular android boxes.
Has a anybody ever managed to get com.netflix.ninja working on non certified devices?
Thanks,

Force Plex into Android TV mode

Hello all,
I think the title says it all. I have an old device that I would like to hook up to an extra tv for the sole purpose of using it for Plex. The kicker of it all is, I do not find the Plex Moble/Tablet interface to work all that well with a remote. Is it possible to enable or somehow trick Plex into thinking that this device is something like a Nexus Player, or some sort of other trick to force it into that interface?
That would be great!
i second that ! ... is there ? or maybe its an options on a certain version ?

Oh, hey. I actually know how to do this. Er - you need to put the attached file into system/etc/permissions. This should trick the Plex app into running into leanback mode.
Okay, one of those two files will do the trick. I forget which, but it's one of those.
What versions of android does this support?
I just had a look at the Raspberry Pi Android TV build, and this was the only file I could find in /etc/permissions that had anything to do with Android TV.
The build I ripped it from was Android 6.0.1
I have also included the LeanbackLauncher.

Plex actually has it as option in the settings.
settings -> General -> Application Layout
The choices are "mobile" or 'TV"
But does anyone know how to do change it so that "all" apps think they are on a TV box?
Arggh , more reading less thinking next time.
It looks like the xml file you attached might do the trick.
I will try it out for some of my other problematic apps.
Thanks
i have the inphic i5 running 4.4.2 I dropped both files but Netflix still thinks it is on a phone.
Any suggestions?
If you're okay with spending a couple dollars
Buy the app "App Cloner" in the Play Store
Then download plex and choose it in the App Cloner app
Go down the options and enable "Enable TV Version"
This should work if you install it on your device

Turning Linux based smart TV into Android TV?

I would like to start off by saying I've looked around for a few hours on the internet trying to find something to help me get an answer to this. I've decided to ask the community to shine some light on this for me. Any answers would be grateful and very appreciated.
I have a Hisense 4K 50 Inch TV I bought it from Walmart. The model number is 50H7GB. I've had the tv over a year and it runs a Linux based os called "Opera TV" The current os lacks the most decent apps and the app store has nothing thrilling at all. I was wondering if it is possible to put Android TV os on this Hisense tv somehow? If it can be done, what steps must I take to do so?
Install apk files hisense 39n2170pw powered by VIDAA
