Stagefright. Will it ever end? - Sony Xperia M2

New Stagefright vulnerability (Lollipop 5.1.1):

Mine device is said to be clear from this bug. Which customise version do you have?

Well, my device says it's vulnerable to Stagefright exploit as well.
Device Model D2306 - Generic Latinoamerica.

Search for Stagefright 2.0, it now uses mp3 and mp4 files vulnerabilities to execute the exploits... I think this can be useful for rooting tho.

This one appeared after I updated the Stagefright Detector app today. It's the Custom IT anyway, but it shouldn't matter.

Yeah yeah, they'll fix this one then miraculously there'll be another and another. Really has there been one single recorded attack or virus cause I ain't heard of one. I ain't worried at all

ok.. what's the point of this post? :silly:
Finding out when we will be able to dump that pitiful 4.3.
I am usually not keen for the the latest, and greatest version no.
Three years ago I got Neo V, last of Sony Ericsson line of phones. It came with 2.3.4 then it got its last update to ICS which was disappointing (laggy, a lot of ads, automatic brightness not working properly, wifi drops etc.)
And back to that time Sony was not listening to their customers. They were (and still) answering to a question with another question, rather to giving a possible solution. But today we have sources, in those days developers were forced to write hacks to make things work and fix Sony mistakes, instead of that, it is still great phone, now owned by my father. I see tradition continued with Xperia 2012 line and later. But instead of bad software updates Sony phones are a good combination of value and quality, that's why I choosed M2 instead of LG G2 Mini or something else rather than Sony. So, this 4.3 is expectedly working without any problem so far (not even a single freeze or lag), and hope Sony will not mess up again. Phone is more than capable of running 4.4 even with a lot of unneeded apps we would probably get. I am surprised I got box, foursquare and some other useful apps rather than junk like FIFA and Music Unlimited I got on Xperia Neo V. We have root and cwm already and CM11 will come in time, so nothing to worry about

True, I bought the M2 since it has a low resolution screen and a fairly high battery capacity compare to the resolution and the Snapdragon S400. I have been using it as my daily driver, no complains at all. Now all I need is an official "move apps to sd card" so that I can save some more internal storage. CM11 is nice for a change, and maybe Android L if possible ( depends on the T2 ultra developers, or maybe someone else )
I have the Neo V myself, IMO, this device simply does not have technical resources running a higher version than 2.3.4 too well.
I have a V, it runs well with ICS, JB 4.1.2, but not with 4.3. It does however run well with KK (Omnirom).
I have the M2. Admittedly it runs better than my V under 4.3. But I keep on reverting to my V with KK, it is even better. In the first place, memory management is better.
According to GSMArena, Sony has started to roll out Kitkat updates to the branded versions of the M2.
Not sure I want to update though, I like my SD card being writable. And who knows if the rooted status will survive the update...

If you manage to root w locked BL, pls. post the method. Or just post the entire ftf.
On Neo V there was trick to flash kernel from older release, root then flash again kernel.sin from current release. But it was still ICS, not sure if it will work for kitkat using jellybean kernel. Just an idea
I read somewhere there is a runtime check to block rooting.
Still waiting for kitkat on D2305
Anyone here still waiting for official update to show? I refreshed Updates many times, but still nothing.

I don't think it has made it to Germany yet (nor Austria), at least not to the unbranded phones. According to XperiFirm, only O2 branded phones have it for now. Switzerland seems to have the update already, though.
Yes, mine is unbranded, thanks.

I dunno, the sudden stall in releasing lollipop to other regions makes me think this is the new 5.02 update with fixs for the commonly found errors. If not this then it could be 5.1.... have to wait and see. Pity they could be a little more vocal and just tell us what is happening
Given that 4.4 began 23.0 and 5.02 began 23.1 I would think it highly likely that 23.2 was 5.1 based. Either that or they just randomly make up their build numbers instead of using some logic!
I would agree however that Sony's communication (or lack thereof) really sucks.

Until I don't see Eagle listed here as Updated to L, or here with a incremental update like 18.3.2.X.Y.Z, or in official Sony's blog, I won't trust anyone

I'm giving up on hope xD. Don't think we're going to get Lollipop at all xD. Recently, T2 Ultra and C3 has new update rolling out which is bug fixes, but, still no confirmation for us at all.
Fly high, Lollipop.
Its not gonna happen Sony aer dragging it out as long as possible for a reason. I read somewhere that some regions the Z might not be updated till Aug. If that's the case is not gonna happen as that's more or less 18mths from launch for M2

What about C3 Lollipop rom crossflash?

Flashing D6603 5.1.1 on D6616

Why can't we flash the D6603 pre-rooted XZDR 5.1.1 Rom on a rooted/recovery D6616? I thought the only thing stopping us before was that we did not have root or a custom recovery on the 6616, so we could not do it without losing DRM keys. Has that changed or not?
Because bricking your phone isn't fun
Right, I understand that there are risks involved. What I am trying to understand is what in particular creates those risks. Could you explain a little further why flashing a D6603 zip would brick the D6616?
I am curious about this as well.
I just recently got my Z3, which I had to unlock since I use AT&T. I now want to root and put 5.1 on it, but it seems like the T-Mobile one is so locked down. As far as I know about DRM keys I don't really care about them since I am not planning on using any Sony software (except maybe the camera software) If I could just put 5.1 on it, with a camera app that shoots RAW I would be happy.
What version do you have? We have root for the D6616 but that won't help us get 5.1 from what I can see. Best bet is to get the D6603 if that is what is most important to you.

I have the D6616.... I guess I don't care so much about 5.1 as I do getting the best battery life possible. But it looks like custom roms are not available since the boatloader is locked?

That's correct - we're limited to modifications of stock. But that makes me wonder why 5.1.1 wouldn't work.

I've been looking for a 5.1.1 for the D6616..... Prerooted.... No one has this yet? I am on 4.4.4 stock rooted ROM, and I have a flashable 5.0.1, but I see no reason to not want 5.1.1, so why do you say root on 5.1.1 isn't doable?

It's not root that's not doable. There exist 5.1.1 prerooted zips for D6603. The issue is that 5.1.1 for the D6616 has not been released yet, hence it has not not been rooted.

Xperia XZ F8331 - Is it possible to enable the fingerprint reader after Nougat OTA?

Hey, this is my first post and I'm inexperienced with Android tinkering so I apologize if I've broken any rules. I searched but would like clarification as Nougat has changed things.
Is there any way to enable the fingerprint reader after the Nougat OTA for the US version of the XZ F8331?
I mistakenly didn't realize Nougat had changed things and unwittingly soft bricked my XZ the other day but managed to unbrick it and really want to avoid bricking it again.
It seems that downgrading to Marshmallow via flashtool is possible? so maybe it could be possible to downgrade to the UK Marshmallow and then get the UK Nougat OTA and then get the fingerprint reader to function that way?
Any rom you use that isn't the US rom will allow fingerprint to work.
Right, but flashtool isn't compatible with Nougat yet. I just got the idea of using Emma though, will look into it more soon
Yeah, you can just flash an MM rom and update to Nougat via OTA.
EMMA will only work with devices with unlocked bootloaders.
You are correct in your first thought. Just flash a UK FTF for MM and get the OTA Nougat update.
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the Customized UK MM FTF seems to be no longer available from XperiFirm and I haven't had any luck trying to find it elsewhere.
How much does the Market/Operator matter? Maybe a customized MM FTF from another region is better? Anything I should be worried about?

Not really. Only a bit of bloatware, everything else is about the same.
You may be able to find an older FTF from here though
Thanks again! There is a Customized UK FTF for MM on the site you linked but it can't be downloaded for free unfortunately.

I am wondering the same - new F8331 on N OTA and enabling the fingerprint reader. Any luck on your end figuring this out?
I've been running customized NOBA in my Z5 for a while here in the US and have been very happy with it. Customized NOBA for the XZ still hasn't been updated to Nougat, so that could be an option. I don't get to unwrap my XZ until Christmas, so I've already downloaded the MM version currently on Xperifirm to re-enable my fingerprint sensor first.
I like customized NOBA because it has bloatware you can completely uninstall.
You should be able to google the central europe firmware (marshmallow) and use that. I just fixed 2 XZs yesterday after banging my head against the wall over the firmware.
Update to marshmallow using flashtool and then OTA update to nougat. Central Europe works perfectly and I get the LTE symbol (some people hated the 4G symbol even though it's the same). Finger print scanner works (both phones are US versions from Amazon).
Help me please
