Youtube App missing in 3.1.1 factory image - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I reflashed my tablet (LTE RoW) from scratch with the 3.1.1 factory image from Nvidia.
I noticed that the Youtube App is missing after first start and the place on the homescreen where the YT shortcut was before is now empty.
I opened the system.img in the Ext4 Unpacker Tool and can see the YouTube folder with the APK inside in the /app folder of the image.
Why is the App not visible and can anyone confirm that?
Best regards,
Chris

I also flashed the factory image and noticed the same thing about the missing YouTube app. I'm glad I'm not the only one! Anyway, installed it from the Play Store and all is good again.

Thanks for your answer.
Seems something must be broken at Nvidia's side.

any help?
thx
How many different places you have to post this?
i thought that i posted it in the wrong section.
excuse me because i'm asking help for something
Hi dont worry just flash gapps package .....google it and you should see a zip file call Gapps which contains all that you require, just flash as normal through clockwork mod by choosing install zip
But i use stock android and want to keep it that way.
Do i have to do the same?

Open a file manager (I know it works with ES File Explorer & and it doesn't work in Astro) and go to system/apps and find the youtube apk and reinstall it. Once you reboot your phone you will now see the youtube app in your apps drawer. This same method will also work for other apps that are showing as being installed that aren't showing up.
Yes. Works for me. I used root explorer. Thank you!

[Q] Android Market - This app is incompatible with your Vodafone HTC HTC Desire S.

I all. I have bought an App some time ago. After flashing my new ROM (Hyperion) I tried to install all my apps again (Didn't made an backup before). So in the past I opened the market and went to "my Apps". Usually all my bought apps appeared. Now some apps are missing. Even when I search them market says "not found". I know they exist.
Is there any possibility to get my app downloaded (I know it works with my Device)
Thanks.

what is the name of the app? it may be that its been withdrawn from the market
I use appbrain to maintain lists of my applications - certainly worth checking out!
Well the app is still in the market...
https://market.android.com/details?id=it.navionics.mediterranean
But I can't search for it. Only by using this link I can find it.
When I am on the website it show "purchased" but I can't install it because it says my device is not compatible.
I already have wrote a message to the vendor and google about this problem. No feedback so far.

If you don't have a titanium backup of the app then I'd await for the dev to write back.
If you have an old nandroid backup of your device with the app on it then you could:
take a new nandroid backup
then restore the old nandroid backup (with app on)
use titanium backup to take a backup of the app
restore the nandroid backup taken at step 1)
use titanium to restore the app backup from 3)
et voila!
or unyaffs the data.img and take the apk ;-).

That certainly sounds like an easier, quicker option....
As I don't have access to linux would using terminal on the device be the easiest way to use unyaffs? or would you suggest a virtual install or linux bootable cd?

Oh, you can do it in windows, there is a port with a cyngwin dll.
Download the attachment, extract the attachment, then create a new folder, dump both the .img and the unyaffs/cygwin file in the new folder, open command prompt, cd to the new folder, then type unyaffs imagename.img
Edit: I did have a few issues on some .img files, but it worked 95% of the time.

Get Knoppix from here and then use this to load it onto a usb stick. Takes about 5 mins.
er nevermind, what zeekiz said works well.
i am really surprise or can say what is this, if we upgrade to latest version of android, we cant downlad some application, that we have downloaded in former version. WHAT IS THE CAUSE FOR THIS? I REALLY WANT TO KNOW.
Do you by any means change the default screen density? That is using a flashable zip or an application that does this? If yes, this is the answer to your question.
The new market shows applications based on compatibility with your registered device (registered through your Google account with which you're logged in). Desire S is a HDPI device with a standard screen desity of 240. If you lowered this value (to fit more things on your screen for ex) to 200, Market will think the application is not compatible (some of them anyways) cause they're ment for MDPI or HDPI devices not for a non standard one. There are also some applications that are not registered in the market for a certain screen resolution and for those you'll have no problem.
If this is your case, you have 2 options: either revert to "old" (2.3.6) market or, you have to change your screen density to standard (240) before installing any application
I'm having the same problem... Some apps that my girlfriend can download I can't and my phone is newer (she's got desire hd)
So reverting back to old market would solve this?? How can I do that?

Ok figured out how to revert to old market and that didn't make any difference so how do you change the screen density?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
buddyblade from he market, didnt seem to work for me though..
Because Market limit 30MB or 35MB download/each app on HTC DS.
I bought Fields runner before, and now i can't install it from market again i can't install "blood and glory" too. But my other device (Sony) can install it

By "old market" I meant 2.3.6. Any 3.x Market version has this problem. You can change density with DPI Changer for ex.(this is what I use)

How to remove the soft keys?

Pie doesn't seem to work and the auto hide soft keys app from the market only seems like a temporary fix. Are there any pie substitute out there, or can we expect to see paranoid android port over this feature soon (among with an amazing ROM)?
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
LMT Launcher is the same thing as pie http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
and if you have root you can disable the softkeys from the build.prop
add this at the bottom and reboot
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
I know, but I can't manually install apk files for some confounded reason.
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
have you tried going to settings / apps swiping over to the "all tab"
and go threw all the motorola apps disabling them and wiping data & cache for them, then reboot?
Sadly, that had no effect whatsoever. Any other ideas?
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
try removing your Google account from the phone, then when you sign in with it again make sure you untick that box about privacy which is supposed to be the cause of this problem.
to do this you will need root, and a root file explorer
go to
data / system
and delete Accounts.db and reboot

You try copying the apk file to /mnt/obb, change the permissions (others should be able to read so something like 777 will do) and install it from there.
It should work.
I think there is some funny stuff going on with the multi user changes introduced in 4.3, I guess the reason why a factory reset works for people (it didn't work for me)
is because the fs will be recreated (permission wise)
Never seen this issue on any other devices with 4.3 or 4.4, think its some Motorola specific thing, i wanted to have a look at the system.img
but its spilt into three parts with a weird format that i have never seen before, nor can i find any info only about it online

I know it probably isn't a big whoop, but that site says sm-t210, no sm-t210R.
Even so, I downloaded the rom/firmware (same thing right?) from the live-samsung updates site. I'm just trying to find a reliable way to back up my apps. Too bad Kies only does contacts and stuff. How did you handle your apps before upgrading? Did you use ODIN to do it?

Well either use Titanium Backup or a similar app, or just flash the firmware using odin. I did that and all my data is still present an the update did not wipe anything. And yeah I guess ROM and firmware are pretty much the same thing. At least everybody uses them as synonyms. Though I think there is a slight difference and I personally prefere the word ROM.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Since I don't want to go through rooting again (I had a scary experience with it), I could just flash it? You just flashed the firmware using odin and it didn't affect things like data, game progress (if you have games), things that are stored in memory? I know a few of my apps are connected to certain accounts, so their data is backed up, but my other apps like Pocket I'm unsure about.
What happened with rooting was it caused my device to have a really dim screen with weird colors, and in my panic I went to factory reset because at that point I was trying to get it back the way it was before. I have flashed a stock firmware to get it restored, but that was after I factory reset, so I couldn't tell if my apps lost data since everything was long gone. But if what you said is true, I could theoretically flash 4.4.2 kitkat on my 4.1.2 jelly bean, and my apps would be just as they were, right?
I just wish someone could explain more of the technicality of what flashing a firmware really does to a device. Is it like sweeping a rug out from under a table, with all the dishes still on it, and then replacing the rug with a new one with everything still in place? Sorry, I'm a visual person lol.
Can this firmware (due to the fact that it is completely stock) be flashed in the stock recovery? Just wondering.. I have not modified my device with root or stuff like custom ROMS...
Sent from my stock, untouched Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 on the xda-developers app
I took a leap of faith and agreed to update my firmware thru kies - and surprise - all my apps are still there, and plus my device is now 4.4.2 kitkat!!! I'm so relieved. Thanks to everyone who's tried to help me!
So if anyone is wondering, if you don't want to use ODIN, you can use kies (just make sure you have the right version for your device) and it will detect the firmware for 4.4.2 kitkat and update your sm-t250r for you!! And you will not lose your apps!!

If you use apps like Asphalt 8, mc4 etc you can save your progress on cloud.
If you want to avoid downloading the big games follow the steps below:-
1)install apk extractor.
2)extract apk's of the apps of which you want to backup.
3)open file manager and go to android obb and copy the main obb file of the game you want to desktop.
4)the extracted apks will be in a folder called extracted apks. Copy them also to desktop.
5)in file manager open android named folder and open data folder.
6)and copy all the data to your desktop.
7) that's it you have now backed up your apps and their data.
To restore the apps first install each apk one by one and then place the main obb file in their respective places and put the data files in the data folder.
As I don't use much apps I had factory resetted my device and then flashed the firmware.

Integration of System Updates to ROM with TB fails

Hi,
anyone else with the same Problem?
Since KitKat (and still with Lollipop 5.1.1) the Titanium Backup function to include Systemapp Updates to the ROM fails. Happens at all Google Apps, FileCommander and Sony Apps.
There is no Error Message. In some cases it only deletes the App completeley and in other cases the progress is running endless (tested for 1 Hour without completion).
Device is Bootloader unlocked, rooted (SuperSU)....... any Hints?
Hmm I had no issue with kitkat, but it definitely does not work with lollipop.
Issue is with tb it's not going to create a subfolder and put libs in subfolder.
If you want to integrate apps, copy the apk from data directory and paste it over system apk, and then replace all the libs using same process.
Reboot phone so it optimized new system apk, then under normal application management uninstall app and replace with factory version (which will be new version)
Reboot and you should be good, restore data if you need to.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Can you give me the necessary Directorys for Internal Memory Apps and System Apps, please?
It's /data/app/ and system apps are either in /system/app or /system/priv-app/
If you go into TB backup/restore, find the app, touch it for more options, right under the freeze option touch the name and it'll give you exact locations as well
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Hi!
Is TB do an update to fix this bug ?
I try to contact them to many times and no one answer me.
Did you find another app to do that ?
Did you still with manual methode ?
Tks
Still broken, only manual method works.
It's like it can't make subfolders in system
Just do it manually not so bad. Copy the updated files from data to system app folder, change permissions and hot reboot.
Android will do the rest.. no data loss or having to install/uninstall.
