I have a galaxy s relay 4g
It took 2 hours of constant usage, to kill the battery from 50 to 0%
Figuring this was normal, I was configuring everytthing while downloading 50apps over wifi
Note phone was on airplane mode, but wifi was on.
Next day I updated from stock ics to stock jb
Turned it on, it was at 91% and after 5 min of usage the phone said it was too hot to charge the bat.
Phone went from 91% charge down to dead with one hour of moderate usage and 2 hour siting idle on airplane mode, wifi on..
It was 46c on batt temp whole time
Charged for 3 hours from pc usb and it gained 3%.
Charged another 3 on wall socket that came with nokia lumia, rated at 1400mA.
Charged 15%
The battery info showed that even though the phone was off, it woke up many times during the night -- IT WAS OFF as in the battery with the 4 white circles on the bottom were showing!
Turned off, removed sdcard, factory reset (left sd out, its still out) i
Came back ok, it syned to google and reinstalled all my apps, then died again
I've tried 2 batteries, and 3 different chargers,
I factory reset the phone too.
Wake lock says the android system used 18% of the battery... other than that I can't see anything obviously wrong
Stock on any device is also resource hungry.... What are the specs of the chargers you are using...certain chargers will not put out the needed amount of ma or volts...which also messes with a Samsung battery overcharge feature

Charger 1 is my pc usb port, which charged my other two phones (mytouch q by lg and sammy captivate glide) about 70% as fast as charger 2.
Charger 2 is what came with phone but doesn't appear oem. 5.7v at 600mA
Charger 3 is the oem charger which came with wifes lumia 925 which rates at 5v at 1400mA
Its "charging" in my car now, no sim card, wifi on and connected to a medium strength signal, 0% charged and I wached the voltage steadily decline as I hit refresh in the gsam battery monitor. Started at 3.3v and in a minute was at 3.18v. Still 0%
Car charger is a no name brand (which kept my captivate charged pretty well despite using gps at the end of my 6 hour drive the phone was still at 75%.)
The battery is samsung oem.
The first battery I tried is also samsung oem.
I also have a 5v 1amp charger that will fill both phones between 1 and 2 hours if memory serves, the 1.4 doesn't seem to go any faster as I guess the won draw much if any more than 1 amp.
Given all of the above I'm inclined to think its software or other hardware issue.... phone was sold as "seller refurbished" on ebay, but the description says its just an open box sale of a phone that came back within the first 7 days....and yes I bought a square trade warranty in case some BS like this happened.... but want to try and fix before going that route.
Is there no way to factory reset to the original ics firmware?
I see you also have a relay, once I get this all figured out id love to root and rom mine like you have yours!
I know the newer android roms have more features but are they more or less responsive in general?
Main reason I got a relay instead of another captivate glide is the relay has much more rom development.
And now the red charging led isn't even turning on..... I wonder if its defective.
Shame I can't return it now, the screen has light scratches (was in my pocket while I was working under my carL

Grabbed a brand new USB cable plugged the phone into a 5th charger, oem HTC radar, 5v at 1amp
swapped the battery for the 1st one I had.
Appeared to charge fine. Pulled out the charge cord at 50%, plugged it right back in.... the battery charging screen went from about 50% down to 20% in 1 second.
Confused, I left it plugged in and went to bed.
Got up this morning and it was dead again.... while plugged in, while off, not even the charging led was on. switched to the 1.4A charger, still nothing... hit the home button a couple times and the thing woke up into the battery charging screen (it ignored the power button the whole time)
The gsam screen was even more interesting:
it doesn't show much but the line graph showed a rapid decline from 20% down to almost 0 from some short time before 3 am, then
3 hours from 3am to 6am, the charge went from near 0 to 50%, and then in half the time back down to near 0.
The temp graph wasn't a line, but fragments of one
does Gsam show the amperage of the draw or charge on yours? its only ever given my the voltage of the battery and shows 1mA on the bottom of the battery,
ebay seller says clean the charge port with alcohol.... not sure why someone should need to do that on a "like new" phone but I'll have to try and find something tiny to shove a paper towel in there with..... that would account for the not charging but not for the high drain.... could thins thing have a short someplace?
sounds to me like a defective device. the fact that you did a factory reset and it's still not charging even with it turned off is probably the biggest sign there. it can't be any apps you've installed because you wiped them all off. i think you've gone way above what should be normally expected of a customer in terms of troubleshooting your device. hairline scratches on the phone are fine. you should still be able to return/exchange it IMHO. especially with the squaretrade thing.
yes, it's possible to flash back to stock ICS but if it's not working with the factory rom (whether ics or jb) the phone obviously has issues.
i just bought mine a couple weeks ago too, though not over ebay. i found a local tmobile "authorized" store (advertising on craigslist) that was selling stuff with similar description - open item or customer purchased and returned within a week. i have used mine on all sorts of chargers without issue: a motorola dual-usb rated at 750ma in the car, a monoprice 2.1a charger built into the 10-outlet power strip at my desk, 2 different laptop usb ports, and a samsung wall charger rated at i think 1.8a which came with my wife's galaxy tab 2. i never ran stock rom for more than about a day or so, just to verify proper operation of the phone, and now i run cyanogenmod11. i can go all day on a charge with what i consider medium to semi-heavy usage, which i think is great.
for example, yesterday i unplugged at about 9am after an overnight charge (with the phone on - i almost never turn it off because i have to be able to receive on-call alert emails from work). i got the day started in the attic installing radiant barrier (so it was rather hot). i had the phone in my pocket streaming a shoutcast station over wifi for probably about 4 hours. later, i watched a 30 minute show on netflix (also wifi), played some wordfeud, surfed the net a bit, watched some youtube videos on fixing my weed eater, did a few emails for work, probably 20-30 texts and maybe 10 minutes worth of phone calls. by 11pm i was still around 30% charge remaining. at no time did i plug in my phone during the day.
i have an extended battery on its way from china, so i expect to be able to go 2 full days on a charge with similar usage. and the thicker back plate will make it easier to hold, since i have such long fingers.
tl;dr - you got a bad phone. exchange it.

My finding so far: my battery will deplete faster if its charged with turbo charger. I have two MXPE's : one for me and one for my wife. I charged hers to 100% using Turbo and mine with normal charger. Same settings for Moto display, same brightness level and pretty much similar usages. In fact, I use my phone more than her because I am somewhat more active on whatsapp. Her phone deleted faster than mine.
Have you guys noticed any difference in this respect? I am thinking I am going to use normal charger for night and use turbo charger only in a pinch.
I've read this assertion elsewhere too - that any quick charged phone depletes battery faster. Actually I charged my battery with my old slow charger last night to see if I'd lose less today. Subjectively (because my usage isn't really consistent), it seems like maybe the phone is discharging more slowly...
Could be a possibility but i have my lg g3 that i used for a year.. Co pairing my faily usage i get about the same hours of ost.
I think hers may be going down faster maybe because of the background apps or the ost shes using? U cant say ur using the same apps unless u tried them both for ur self..
I know this is the case. I have a Tablet and Phone when I charge them with slightly higher power chargers they deplete at a much faster rate. And when I charge with the slower charger they hold a charge much longer.
(Although bare in mind I'm talking about non Quick Charging devices so maybe that plays a huge part lol but I dont use Quick Chargers on them just slightly faster chargers when I have no choice.)

For those of you that have noticed faster battery loss after using the quick charge have you tried the non quick charger for a night charge than at a random time used the car quick charge charger? Does the time differ at all than?
I think this needs more testing. I need to do the test on my phone alone on 2 consecutive working days.
I don't understand what the logic behind this theory would be. Just because one reviewer mentioned it all of a sudden its a thing? Not trying to argue just don't understand the logic. The battery/phone don't heat while turbo charging so why would battery deplete faster?

A lot of people report the device gets hot when turbo charging. By the nature of the forcing of charge and the small footprint, how could it not get somewhat hot? I do not use fast charging on my Pure due to this.

Charging fast is bad for the battery, so it only makes sense for her not to last as long.
My wife wears down faster when I quick charge her. I only do it when I need her for short bursts.

As I understand turbo change. The phone only utilizes turbo charge for the 0-85 or so, then the phone uses standard charging to top the battery off. I have also not noticed any heat while charging using the OEM charger provided out of the box. Believe what you will. I just don't care how you charge your battery.

Why would the phone discharge faster after a quick charge? Isn't one hundred percent one hundred percent? I'm not flaming, I'm actually curious if there's a difference.
Idk who came up with this, your battery does not drain faster when its charged faster, its not logical.. All turbo charge or any type of quick charge does is supplies more a more faster charging rate based on the volts and amps it puts out. This should not effect your batteries life in anyway.
I can understand the thinking behind this but there is absolutely no way you can test this correctly because you aren't doing the EXACT same usage every day. Something will always differ.

After about a week's use I feel like the battery has a break in period. I was getting horrible battery at first. The past few days have been par (4ish hours SOT). I've only used the OEM Turbo chargers once but I have several other Turbo chargers (mainly from Galaxy's, Turbo's, etc). Almost every charger in my house could be considered a "Turbo charger" but I only receive the notification that the device recognizes a turbo charge on the OEM charger.
That said, I have worse battery life if I charge all night. It's as if the battery fully charges, then depletes, but still registers as 100%. So shortly taking it off the charger, the battery will quickly drop to low 90's and soon into the 80's. If I charge to 100% and unplug soon after my battery life is as expected.

You are making an interesting point here. Anyone else can confirm?
I'm going to do a test myself. Before that I want to add that I've noticed when charging with turbocharger(I've used only the OEM's) the charged capacity tends to go a little over the 3000mha, it becomes something like ~3300mha and after plugging out it still stays like that until 90% where it stats under 3000mha charged.
I charge every night with slow charge. I am at 95% after 1 hour and 45 minutes unplugged. Checked some news a few texts and 2 phone calls. Seems normal to me.

Battery drain is pretty evident. I am on MM Indian ROM and below are the findings.
1. Used turbo charger to top it up at 100%. Dis-connected the charger. WIFI is enabled and network is 2G (data off). All background app sync is disabled, and the only major applications running in background are firefox and whatsapp.
With medium brightness and browsing, the battery will drop to 97-98% within 5-8 minutes.
2. 100% turbo-charged at night. WIFI enabled/2G network (Data off). Woke up in the morning after 6 hours and battery is good at 98%
WIFI off and network moved to 4G/data and after browsing for 10 minutes, the battery falls to 85%
3. Instead of turbo charger, used Xaiomi MI pad charger (non-turbo) and my experience with #1 and #2 are pretty much the same.
in the last week my battery no longer "quick charges". i have 'Ampere' installed so i'm used too seeing it charge at around 2800mA. i vaguely understand that phones charge quicker up to around 80% and then at a slower rate for the remaining - it's not this.
when I plug in the, current starts at ~1300mA and climbs to just under 3000mA... and drops to ~440mA in a minute or so.
it doesn't appear to be the cable and/or charging block that came with the phone - using a 1A charger from my last phone gets similar results and i purchased a new cable that's compatible with high speed charging.
i really wanted to love this phone.
I have a Samsung quick Charger from a Note5, and it has never quick charged my PureXL (actually super slow charges it,) but after the last update, I noticed I got an overvoltage error using it....
The reason is that this phone is not quick charge enabled. That's actually something that needs to be built into the SoC + Kernel support. You have a solid 2A charger, it'll go fast, but it can't rapid draw like say, the premium motos or a OnePlus.

sorry, i don't think i explained myself that well. i'm pretty sure that i've noticed a change in performance. when the phone was new i remember the current being high when battery % was lower, and then decreasing as it charged.
in the last week or so it seems to be charging at a slower rate and with the original 2A charger and cable. if the battery is at 20% the current will increase quickly to something above 2800mA and then immediately decrease so that by the time it's at say 22% charged the current is at a steady 440mA.
oh! ****. i didn't realize that 'quick charge' was actually 'Quick Charge™ by Qualcomm®'.. nice and generic sounding.
my pure xl was doing a full charge in less than 3 hours. as of last week all of a sudden it takes 10 hours to fully charge. using original charger and cable. can anyone shed a light on fixing this problem?

My Nexus 6p is now facing the same problem as yours. It charges less than 3 hours before and all of a sudden two days ago, it has taken 10 hours to fully charge. With all cables and charges faults ruled out, my only guess is the fault lies in the phone. I don't think it is the USB port either. I believe it may be something to do with the software I cannot comprehend. But I currently don't have the time to reflash my ROM. This Resurrection remix ROM served well for the past year.
Currently, my amperage averages out to 350 mA. Sad. I wish someone with knowledge about this can reply to this thread. It seems this question has been lingering here for more than two years already. Are we the only ones who face this problem?
OK, so I've had my SM-P900 for about year now.
Suddenly just this week I am noticing my battery is draining considerably faster than usual and is also taking longer to charge. I was using a custom rom but have now switched back to the default 5.02 version that I installed via Kies.
So after a year do I really need to purchase a new battery?
I keep most everything off all the time and really haven't changed anything or how I use it in quite a few months so was wondering if I actually have to break down and purchase a new battery already.

Read the threat : Flickering screen to see how to adjust the tip of battery cable closer in order to make better contact before replace a new battery, within one year the battery should still be good.
If you see the same thing with new battery, probably the battery connector has cracked solder joints and needs to be re soldered, common problem of Samsung tablets, not just only this model.
Lithium-Ion batteries generally last between 300-500 full charge cycles before they start losing power. A year is.. way too soon.
Does it also take longer to charge when the device is turned off completely?
In general a drain increase is caused by a software issue, mobile data or a bug. (or heat/cold.) (The difference between mobile data on and off with a 4G connection is 100-0% in deep sleep in 2 days with LTE, and 80 days in airplane mode.)
Signs of a dying battery include random discharges (it suddenly loses 30-70%, it's at 100 when you unplug and suddenly drops to 30%, or it's dead, you plug it in and turn it back on and it suddenly has 50% charge), random reboots and the device just not turning on at all for no apparent reason.
While it'll loose capacity eventually, that usually doesn't negatively affect the charging speed. (If anything it charges faster because it reaches 100% sooner.)
So assuming that I have a dead battery, is there a good replacement battery out there?
I have tried replacement batteries in the past and have found only subpar batteries on the market.
I bought a new battery on Amazon : 26$
This one is an original battery so at this price you should order one.
And about flickering issue, yes you should resolder connectors or changing the battery might solve this issue too (it worked for me)

Then I decided not to stress the battery so much by charging it with the included turbopower 25 charger all the time, and use my old (5V 2.1A) charger overnight instead. Then I was surprised to see my SOT going up to about 4.5-5hrs.
I did some research about fast charging techonlogy and found out that when you fast charge you typically don't get as much charge into a battery as with a slow charge.
I still use the turbo charger when I am short on time, but using my regular one definetely does add more juice to the battery, thus, helping it last throughout the day.

Will definitely try that out. Cuz my usage gets me around 4 -4.5 or even 6 if I read a little. So if this happens for me too I'm gonna get some nice battery life.

It doesn't really matter, at least not that significantly... something else is the cause.
Using a turbo charger could change the longevity of the battery, over time, due to heat buildup and breakdown of the internal components due to more stress, but it wouldn't just "get better" switching to standard charger... I charge my phone half the week on a standard charger when at home, and when traveling I use a quick charger. If I am on either at home or on the road for a few weeks at a time and my battery life doesn't change. Well, not because of the charger, but at home I am within 30' of a very high quality WiFi router all the time and essentially never on mobile data, on the road it's the complete opposite.
If you did your researching into Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 (and higher) standards you would see that the issue of batteries not getting a full charge from the original QuickCharge/Fast Charge standard has been remedied with high voltage charging automatically downgraded to "standard" voltage charging during about the last 10% of the charge cycle to allow the battery to cool and take a full charge.
Not doubting your getting better SOT, just your analysis of the reason why are...

Maybe you're right, I'm still monitoring my battery life on both chargers, and with the same usage, my battery does last longer when charging with the regular 5V one. I'm mostly on 3G network data and rarely use wifi, as I'm mostly only sleeping or eating at home. Maybe there are other factors making this difference, though i'm pretty sure the charger is the only difference for me. Will report if I notice anything else.
I don't see any big difference, I'm also using standard charger over night and quick when I'm in the hurry. Despite charging methods my sot time is very inconsistant from 2,5h to 4h at best.
