This is not a typical zip you flash in TWRP...this is a stock rooted system.img & modified boot.img, flashed just like the stock images from Google. I've removed the uneeded images & edited the flash script to only flash system & boot. Actually it will also flash the included bootloader, but it appears it is not updated from 5.1.1....as it's still 4.05.

Just to be clear (it seems like it), flashing this won't touch Recovery/wipe the device, correct?
Downloading anyway, great work!

Nice, what I've been looking for.
Hope enforcing SELinux can be achieved sometime with SuperSU. Using permissive SELinux is a must for now, i've read https://twitter.com/ChainfireXDA/status/604443705806848001?ref_src=twsrc but i do hope enforcing will happen someday soon as source rolls out

If anyone else, like myself, has an issue with the Home button and Notification Shade not working after flashing this (everything else works properly), be sure to do two things:
Clear out a couple of Google's pre-loaded apps from /system/app, there is almost NO free space there. Then install them from the Play Store instead.
Run the command in this old AP story: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...at-refuses-to-pull-down-after-android-update/
I've done those things, and now I have a basically 'updated' N7 from 5.1.1 to 6.0.0 without losing a thing, and still some space in /system/ to flash an adblocker, etc.
Just trying to help a bit.

Why isn't there a single twrp flashable rom in the entire nexus 7 section?just seems weird.

Not really sure if that's correct.

I agree, by now there was usually at least 2 or 3 of them rooted with busybox. Don't know why isn't happening with M. A little harder to make a flashable zip for some reason ?

[ROM] THL W8 GravityMod

!!! DEPRECATED. TAKE A LOOK HERE INSTEAD !!!
GravityMod - custom ROM for THL W8
Version 1.0
Hey!
This is my custom ROM for THL W8 that's based on Eastcom W1 stock Android 4.1.2 ROM, which
I find better than the THL's stock one.
It's a pure stock with some of my mods on top of it and it's flashable via recovery (CWM or TWRP).
My recommendation is to use TWRP recovery since everything is tested with that one. I don't
test update zips on CWM because I am too lazy to reflash recovery every time.
(For installing ClockworkMod or TeamWin recovery, refer to this thread )
Credits
- maniak555 and akim14 for giving a tip regarding compatible Eastcom W1 rom.
Main features
- Deodexed
- Rooted
- Busybox
- Sysinit support (init.d scripts)
- AOSP lockscreen
- Additional languages
- Power menu - reboot to recovery
- Volume key cursor control
- Automatic hide of signal icons for empty SIM slots
- Better camera picture quality at default settings
- Internet calls support (SIP)
- Faster UI ( still locked at 30FPS, though )
- Updated Google apps
- Google Now included
- Stock launcher replaced with Nova Launcher
- Stock browser replaced with Google Chrome
- Chinese apps removed
- Update Kitchen

Installation instructions
1) Download ROM zip and put in on SD card
2) Reboot to recovery (cwm or twrp). Turn off signature verification if it's on (ZIP is not signed)
3) Backup your current ROM (optional, but highly recommended)
4) Perform factory reset (wipe data, cache, dalvik cache)
5) Install ROM zip downloaded in step 1)
6) Reboot. Patience required - first boot takes a while
7) Visit Update Kitchen to update or customize GravityMod
ATTENTION:
Kernel (boot image) that comes with this ROM is not compatible with the stock ROM, nor other custom ROMs (probably).
When returning back to stock rom/other rom, you should flash stock kernel afterwards (e.g. using SP Flash Tool) .
Otherwise device won't boot. I will provide a ZIP package with stock kernel soon.

thank you for the work you make C3C076.
Could you please upload more screencaps to see how the ROM looks ?
It looks just like the stock one. The only visual difference is the lock screen.

Well, this must be your local issue. Or do you think I would release the ROM with such essential thing not working?

AWSOME
is this the entire system of the W1 on the W8?
Yep.
Finally found a way to flash it correctly. What I was missing was the uboot partition. Flashing boot and system from different device was not enough.
Looks really promising since everything seems to be working great. Guys, you haven't seen such a smooth UI as this one has Really awsome.
I also find a way how to make a 4.2 rom zip to be flashed from recovery. But there is one thing that needs to be resolved.
After flashing new rom, recovery won't work anymore. It has to be reflashed with one built with new kernel image. Recovery flashing can be part of an update zip. The bad thing is that since new kernel image is about 200kb bigger than the older one, TWRP recovery can't fit our 6MB limit. CWM still fits OK. This means, after flashing rom via recovery you will end up with CWM.
I still need some time to iron out everything to release some initial release (pure stock, without any mods)

[Q] What is the Best App or Way to Keep Root after Flashing Zip?

I love Custom ROMs and Kernels and I'm sure you all do too. It seems that every time I flash my favorite CM ROM which has a built in CM SuperUser found within Settings and then after flashing my favorite kernel, I simply lose root for the ROM and the SuperUser stops working. I want to know how to get the CM SuperUser working again after flashing the zip in recovery.
Here is where my problem seems to be different than others. I can get root back by installing SuperSU and then going to settings and telling it to "Ignore CM Root Settings" and then rebooting, then root access works with SuperSU and the system thinks its doing its job too...but then when I uninstall SuperSU the entire problem comes back.
So my question is, is there a solid method to keeping the built in CM SuperUser found in Settings working as it did before flashing that zip that broke the ROMs root in the first place?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!
I think you are experiencing a similar problem like I did ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602670 ). Am I right?
My root in CM11 is not working properly. So every time I flash CM11 with TWRP, I have to flash SuperSU right after CM11 and my kernel.
My personal explanation is, that SELinux (enforcing) doesn't work well with CM11 yet.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we are having the exact same problem seeing that it's CM and you flashed a kernel which broke your built-in root.
Isn't there an update for the built-in SuperUser or something? CM is really popular so I know some people have liked it enough to want to keep the built in SuperUser and not use a halfa$$ workaround. Don't get me wrong, SuperSU is LEGIT, but I want the built-in SuperUser this time because I don't want it sitting in the Settings for no purpose.
Anyone? Thank you in advance!
superuser updated today and fixed the CM breaking root deal.
What's New
- New -cn/--context parameter for su binary (devs: see How-To SU update)
- Handle mksh being switched out for sh
- Daemon forces new session immediately at launch (moved up)
- Fixed reading dynamic properties on 4.4 (update ASAP if 4.4 user)
- Fixed issue where root wasn't granted on CM
- Add support for Samsung 4.4
- Update copyright notices to 2014
- Updated language files

I think the latest version of SuperSU (1.91) is supposed to fix that.

The problem is imho the built-in superuser by CM (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su&hl=en or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.superuser&hl=en) not SuperSU. Actually I'm not really sure which one is used in CM.

cm uses superuser. flashing supersu fixes the issue and rids cm of everything superuser related.
It looks like, at least from all the research I did today, that there actually might be a fix for all this by possibly updating the actual ROMs built-in version of SuperUser.
If you look at this version of the SuperUser app by ClockworkMod on Google Play, you can see in one of the screenshots it shows an app requesting permission from what looks like the exact UI as the built-in SuperUser we see in our CM-based ROMs.

You could try to get the .apk of SuperSU or CM's superuser and put it in the "app" or "priv-app" folder of your CM-ROM .zip-file.
I tried to simply replace the su-binary in the xbin folder... Stupid idea though. Didn't work out
Bummer, so I didn't find a solution / fix, but I did find some possibly helpful links.
These are options that I researched very deeply in any and every way possible. Notes for found possibilities are noted below the option, if any.
Opt-1 .) Locate where the files or code for the built-in SuperUser are located within ROM and update / replace them with newest version of SuperUser, and also gain root when re-root is needed.
Opt-2 .) Replace SuperUser found in CM-based ROM's Settings with newest version of SuperSU by either deleting from ROM's Settings somehow or keep it and have SuperSU built in ROM's Settings same as current SuperUser.
I do believe that somewhat of Option #2 might be possible. I don't really know for sure yet, but I found these other 2 links that look pretty interesting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033590
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539711
I know you can install SuperSU and pretty much ditch SuperUser for good, but then you still have it sitting in the ROMs settings for no reason at all.
You can remove and hide SuperUser from the ROMs settings but in order to do that you have to completely disable root. You can remove it by going to Developer Options or SuperUser settings and choosing "disable" for SuperUser Access. Unfortunately when doing this SuperSU immediately stops working even when open and closes the first chance it gets.
If anyone else can shed any light at all on the subject, it would be VERY MUCH appreciated! Thank you!

[UTIL][WIN]I Don't Want You! || Get rid of unwanted mods || No data loss || No backup

Hi guys,
Have you ever installed a mod without making a backup before? Did the mod break your system or was not working the way you expected? The only way to recover the system to the previous state was to restore an old backup and loose all new data.
Thanks to my mod, this won't happen again! I present to you "I Don't Want You!".
It means NO NEED TO ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING A MOD!
How it works?
It creates update.zip containing apps changed by mod in comparison to stock system and deleting files added by the mod to our system.
What it does?
-creates update.zip
-signs the zip
-Additionally: pulls /system from the device (using adb) (you need to do that once before installing mods instead of unpacking system manually form FTF/.zip file)
Requirements:
-Windows
-.NET Framework 4.5 or higher
-files installed/changed by mod (the content of mod's .zip file without META-INF)
-Recovery installed on your Android device
-Rooted android device
-Java
Compatibility:
Every device and every Android build!
It does not fully support mods with AROMA Installer
Currently It works only with mods influencing /system.

Update.zip made by my tool should work on all recoverys using edify language. Please provide me an example of flashable zip for your recovery and I will check.
If It comes to porting the tool for linux, I need help in that matter as far as I am not using Linux and I haven't made any program for that system yet. Of course I will provide source code. Please contact me via PM. However you can try opening the tool with Wine. The ADB wont work but you can copy your /system manually and provide path to it in program.

3) Wait for install to complete (first boot on deodexed lollipop takes >15 minutes, be patient)
4) Profit
this thread is pretty short, ain't it?

Can you use SuperSU to get the logs from "MatrixROM configuration" and send them to me? This is an issue that was the reason it took me so long to make the ROM, so seeing it not working is a real bummer

If we're flashing over from Plasma do you recommend that we still wipe or is a dirty flash safe?

Load SU pro, go into matrixrom config, then do the thing you said was not working. After the reboot, go into SuperSU, then logs, then click the latest log (the one at the top) and send me what it says.
Righteous, @Nandr0idC0nsumer :]
Flashing this immediately! and I'll be sure to report back with some feedback.. thanks for your work.
I'm sure I'll figure it out very soon ..hard way or not...but do other RRO layers themes get along with this rom?

Yep.
Just need to push them to /system/vendor/overlay (create the directory if it isn't there) and reboot

been so long since i flash anything.
Is this a update.zip via recovery or is it a odin?
Also knox trip correct?
Thank you sooooo much
@TEKHD can you add a recovery flashable OK2 baseband too please.
Edit - WiFi password not sticking on reboot.
Awesome! Thank you!
Can't wait for a bloat ware removed version.
Ditto on the flash able baseband
WOW that was FAST!
Many thanks for that.
Might you be willing to upload an odexed version? I don't care about theming so the vanilla setup is just fine. Cheers.
This ROM is AMAZING! Thanks so much for breathing life in our phones
Feature wake up the edge screen when phone locked (swipe the Edge green left then right) is dead.
AS I understand from other threads...

That has been removed by T-Mobile/Sammy in this 5.1.1 - not something about this particular ROM

I'm stock and on the last T-Mobile update, and I still have the ability to do that, I don't think either T-Mobile or Samsung removed that from the software.
Sorry, then I'm mistaken...

As I said - i just saw in another thread that someone was also complaining about the 'Edge unlock feature' that has been removed by this rom. (" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64130770&postcount=14 ")
Then I guess it HAS something to do with this modified ROM.
I will anyway spend time this weekend installing this modified ROM and test and report back.
I am also planning to flash the SAMmy stock rom, root and report back on that.
Sorry if I created confusion.

I wipe: system, data and cache before I flashed with TWRP 2.8.7.0
I got a "zip signature verification failed 1" error.
Nothing wrong with the zip, I can open it and extract the contents.
Did I miss anything pre-required?
Thanks

I just flashed it. Coming from the Note 4 port. I did factory reset 3 times then flashed. Nothing else. First thing I tried was video call and it worked.
Seems pretty smooth but I haven't downloaded all my personal bloat yet. lol
EDIT: Well I was on it this version long enough to play memory game and tiny burgers on the edge. Backed it up in case I need an edge game fix and am back on the Note 4 port elite!
Still get the Error "Zip signature verification failed"

I re-downloaded the file and check the MD5 values on the SD-card - they match. There is nothing wrong with this status of .zip file.
What are you using to falsh it with?. As I said - I used TWRP 2.8.7.0 - maybe that is the problem??
Ideas are welcome, as I would HATE to goto the stock rom and not have root.....
