If my sprint s6 ( G925P ) has a bad ESN, can I unlock it to use with tmobile, Cricket, Or any other carrier ? D:
Thanks you
It is possible but requires root and msl code along with cdma workshop and a lot of work.

Wouldn't it be easier If I just flash it another rom ?
Do you have any link which leads to the steps or something ? :x
Thanks by the way
flashing another rom will not fix the bad esn problem. Im not sure how much I can explain without breaking a XDA rule.
If you have the msl code and your rooted and can prl write from cdma workshop
you can flash a cricket prl and then change the apn settings to crickets and you could activate it.
google could probably fill in the gaps for you. Or pm me your email.
If its blacklisted for being reported stolen it wont work on any network in the USA. You need a clean cert and meid to match but it will no longer work with sprint.
Thats actually not true just requires a ton of work to do. A blacklisted Sprint phone with a cricket prl will work on cricket. A Sprint phone with an esn clone will work on Sprint.

Yea I'm sayin what you are saying is true.... You can. I've done it
Yeah does take some work though. Just wanted to check so the thread does not get confused. Thanks.
Nowadays, flashing sprint phones to cricket is gone........same goes for pageplus, pageplus flashing still exists but you have to use a real verizon ESN but that's getting into shady business of ESN cloning.
If the IMEI has not been blacklisted, you can unlock your phone and use it with T-Mobile, AT&T, CRICKET, METROPCS and etc....
I would check with IMEIDATA.NET on their blacklist and see if the device is clean to use.
Good luck!

Well... If it helps, My phone is still connected to sprint, it hasn't been reported as stolen or anything but i know it will soon .-. ... If I do unlock it and change it so cricket before it gets reported as stolen or lost... What happens ? .-.
From the Moderator
Short Answer .......... Bad ESN means no carrier acceptance in USA ........ the rest is just commentary ......... trying to get around this by changing the ESN is illegal ...... so that said........

Hi I sold an unlocked xpress rom tp2 to a guy who had verizon.. he said verizon would not activate it at the verizon place.. i thought it would work??
well **** he did ebay dispute and it took the money out of my paypal acct! talked to him on the phone and he is sending phone back tomorrow.. learned something today ;/
Of course the company isn't going to support a custom ROM. I would have sked for my money back too. You should have returned it to stock conditions before selling it.

custom rom wont affect activation, the fact that it was a uscc phone caused the problem, next time only say it will work on uscc unless it has a bad esn

Using a branded phone doesn't make a difference so long as you are going from GSM to GSM or CDMA to CDMA. Verizon and USC both are CDMA. Several people on these forums have done the same thing.
He said the other guy took his phone into a Verizon store. If they see you aren't running the stock ROM, they will refuse to activate it. I used to do the same thing when I worked for T-Mobile. We could take someone with an AT&T phone and port their number, but if we found out they used a custom ROM, then they would have to get a new device.
Custom ROMs are never, ever supported by carriers. I'm not saying that this is definitely the problem, but it is very likely.

You need to Learn a bit more on CDMA. Just cause a phone is unlocked won't mean it can be used on other carriers. Verizon has to add the esn to their database after Whiich he can have a Verizon line added to it. So it's not the same as gsm
Yeah guy took it to verizon and they actually tried working with him but no luck with activation over the phone..they didn't care that it was uscc supposedly... Thanks for the help.. To bad these a hole carriers won't do WHAT THEIR TOLD! AH HA.. Thanks for info

Same thing happened with boost. They could not activate it cuz it was not added to the database. I think only metro pcs would do it for a fee. Not releally sure
Verizon will NOT add a foreign esn to their database. They will only activate verizon phones.
yup, Verizon doesn't activate anyone else's phones. Only phones with ESN's they have in their own database and they won't add a phone to it just cause you want them to.
I have a Photon Q 4G LTE from sprint. I lost my job and cant pay the bill. I'm sure sprint has locked the esn. I have seen you can flash my phone to cricket, But I read this on motorola's site.
DOES UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER MEAN I CAN USE MY DEVICE WITH ANY WIRELESS OPERATOR?
No, this does not disable a carrier subsidy lock if one exists. Some subscriptions are tied to a specific wireless operator and the phone cannot be used on another operator's network. A "locked bootloader" and "carrier subsidy lock" are thus two entirely different topics. Do not unlock the bootloader if you are want to to disable the carrier subsidy lock.
If I unlock the bootloader does that mean I will not be able to flash to cricket.
Also with a locked esn from sprint will I even be able to flash my phone over to cricket.
Sorry for the NooB questions here. I am new to cell phone modification but everyone has to start somewhere. :cyclops:

Unlocking the boatloader doesn't mean much. If you unlock it, nothing "bad" or "negative" happens. The reason for the statement of Motorola's site is so people don't unlock the bootloader thinking it will carrier unlock them.
As for actually flashing the phone to Cricket, I'm almost positive it can be done, but I can't answer that. What I CAN do however, is point you to this awesome forum that has to do with cricket phones and non-cricket phones that either have been flashed to cricket or are being worked on a working flash to cricket:
http://www.cricketusers.com/forum.php
Think of it as a Cricket-Flasher's XDA.
Sweet thanx for the info. Im still confused though if i unlock the bootloader and root it would i still be able to flash to another carrier

Figure out what Cricket needs in the way of OS and get them to activate the ESN. Obviously they need to make themselves the APN
Do yall think a flash to cricket from sprint is still possible with the new law. I would flash myself and then take the phone to cricket.

Well, this has always been one of those questionable things. I don't think it's technically illegal, so long as you aren't swapping the ESN or something like that.

Yea, it said "legacy" phones were exempt. So technically our phone should be exempt... it was made before that law went into place.
Either way, just don't turn it into a business and you should be fine. It's your device, and you're not doing it over & over for profit.
Note - I am not replacement for legal counsel. I do not and cannot advise on the legality of anything.
Nice. i lost my job and couldnt pay my bill do you think sprint would give me the unlock code? Whats the diffrence between legacy phone and regular phones

Based on the legalese I read, it would be any phone sold after the law went into place, which was Jan. 1 2013 I think?
As for Sprint giving you the code, if your account is not in good standing I doubt it.
Note - I am also not a Sprint employee, lol.

So what you are saying, is that you have a device, that doesn't work under the carriers, (probably because it was reported stolen for example) and that you want to "clone" an ESN from a device that works.
Uhmmm.... No.
Thread closed as XDA does not involve itself in these deals.

I have here a Tmo Note5 that recently got blocked by Tmo, but my friend said the phone was permanently unlocked with the app before it got blocked. I may get a prepaid sim and use it with that sometimes, assuming it will work. I'm leaning towards something that runs on AT&T's network, since I already have unlimited data with Tmo. I'm thinking about Cricket but am open to suggestions. Thx
Side note: my friend was perplexed that the unlock worked, because once the IMEI got blocked, that maybe indicated that the phone was not paid off. But, maybe the original owner reported it stolen? T-Mobile would not give specifics. Gonna get some kind of sim today and see if the unlock has stuck, my friend did say that it worked with his AT&T sim..

Sideways people suck badly!!!
I'm not 100 on this, but I remember reading a few times that t-mobile and AT&T share blacklisted databases. Not sure of the legitimacy of that claim but that's what I have read.
There are also apparently imei switchers that you can use thatapparently use to unblacklist your device.

Yeah, I heard that about the blacklist sharing too, but Cricket says the device is clean as far as they're concerned, and a Cricket sim had full service on the phone. Same with my friend's AT&T sim. Tmo says that the device was on an installment plan but that the account is now closed, so that person needs to pay the balance for the phone to be unblocked...... I'm not holding my breath for that!
I see remote IMEI repair on eBay for as low as $39, and even an xposed module that doesn't change but spoofs your IMEI. Were you alluding to any specific switcher that might be good?

Never had to do any of that so I don't know of it being legit. I've only seen it on Craigslist and swappa bone yard.

Changing or altering your IMEI is illegal, but I don't know if that applies to spoofing it (probably since it's essentially the same thing). I'd be careful using any of those options.

Yeah, thanks. I ended up selling the phone on eBay as a bad IMEI/unlocked phone, so it all worked out ok. Crazy tho, I used to think Swappa's IMEI check was fool-proof, but i guess nothing's completely guaranteed, and things can slip thru the cracks.
Hey there, I want to sim unlock this Gs8 I got from Sprint, Model: Sm-G950U , Software version: G950USQS2BQL1, I received an unlock code but was not able to input the code because it just said sim error contact sprint immediately, Unlocking by sprint isn't a choice as they extorted money out of me, I really want my galaxy s8 to be in service again any Idea where to start? Any help will be much appreciated , I come from a background of good software knowledge so other approaches are good too.
Sprint extorted money out of you?
Extortion is illegal in this country...
Does your phone asks for codes or not?
If it doesn't ask for code you can try the following 3 methods, however, they are not 100% guarantee to work:
Method #1: Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press #7465625*638*# Once prompted for code, enter the 8 digit Unlock Code.
Method #2: Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#
Method #3: Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #0111*UNLOCKCODE#
If none of these work, also check if your phone's IMEI is clean and not reported or blacklisted by Sprint.
Sprint phones are usually unlocked one of two ways and neither has anything to do with a code. One is via Sprint with an OTA thing. The other is via root + a 3rd party tool like z3x, Octopus, or something similar.

Need to SIM unlock Sprint galaxy s8 (also fear it may be "black listed" unpaid lease)
I bought the phone from someone and thought it would work but I was trusting instead of smart.. Should've checked it out first. Anyways im negative a couple hundred $$ and I would love if some one would be able to help guide me through unlocking the SIM and if necessary rooting etc. To make it work for my Metro PCS account. In short I need to be able to I assume "SIM unlock" my S8 and hope it'll just be ready to pop my metro SIM into it and it works. Any advice? Will it work if I can just unlock it and use my metro SIM? Or since its an the lease hadnt been fully paid will that be a problem... Ive checked on a couple sites that let you see the IMEI number and if its black listed but it isn't... Please help.

Correct. It IS an advertisement - and not a very good one. He obviously has no knowledge of phones whatsoever if he thinks that Sprint devices use codes
I too have a Sprint phone which I wanted to unlock with the help of information here on the site. Since you won't be able to use unlock codes, and also bcause when I called Sprint they wouldn't help me -told me to contact the seller of the phone to have it unlocked, I was desperate for any unlocking method. Hard to find a working one and didn't want to waste too much time (old Galaxy S5 was already at it's last breath) I made contact with one of the unlockers here on XDA and one was able to unlock it remotely for me. I did pay $15 but with the crappy internet I have and since most unlocking sites are asking $39 for unlocking S8 then I really didn't mind this $15. Took well over a few hours to do since I had to download combination file for my phone which took a while. It's unlocked now thanx to vosi7en here at xda. I do have 1 problem now and that's tethering.....I don't have the option to do any hotspots. Anyone have an idea? I can't root yet cuz I'm on latest Oreo now.
