Hi, I hope this is the correct sub forum for talking about Android TV boxes, if it's not please accept my apologies and tell me the correct one.
I have just received this Android TV Box, Cs918 MK888 Q7. I bought it from here: Aliexpress
I have tested it and it's working without any problem with the AV wires, but the quality of the image is not so good. And the problem is when plugged with the HDMI cable, the image in the TV is always appearing and disappearing, you can check this video: Video Mediafire
That's very annoying, since the AV quality is not so good, and I have already tried another HDMI cable and another TV, unsuccesfully. I kwow it's probably a hardware issue but is there any chance that it's software? Or did anybody have a similar experience and can make any suggestion about the hardware?
Thank you so much, I was so happy when I realized xda has a subforum for Android TVs and sticks, I'm sure I can get some answers here or if I buy a replacement find the best ROMs and support.
Thanks again!
I bought the same thing. Take the following steps and it will be working!
1.open batch tool application (see link below)
2.find firmware and add to FW path
3.plug cs918 and needn't power it on
4.press recovery button and don't loose it.
5.find a otg cable connect computer and cs918
6.you can loose recovery button when the batch tool connected divices 1 turn green.
7.click upgrade and waiting for the finsh, device will upgrade automatically.

Connecting your box can be tricky. Took mee about 30 minutes.
Good luck
Truth is I got rid of this box, but thank you anyway! I'm sure this will be useful for other users with the same problem.
Thank you!

Hi.
¿ Do you think that something like that could work in our TG01 ?
Thank you.

Forget it. No TV out on this device....
not out of the box but maybe someone could make an app to do it. i have one of these cables so will plug it in and see what results i get.
for now you could try http://www.mymobiler.com/ as you can atleast output to monitor. (it works i use it)
Edit my cable had a 2.5 jack on the end not micro usb was getting confused, but connected via the headphones to tv anyway and it carries sound to the tv, obviously the phone is treating it like headphones are connected. i dont understand why they didnt include tvout via usb.
HTC Touch can send TV signal via USB, ¿ maybe is possible to use his drivers in any WM phone ?.

If anyone has a Micro-USB/TV-Out cable, ¿ can try it ?, and please, tell us if it works correctly.
This definitely won't work with the TG01 using the method specified on the other site. I've taken a screwdriver to my 'headphone adapter' and can confirm the socket on it is only 3-pole (Ground, Left, Right).
A 4-pole plug would just ground both poles of the furthest ring (usually connected to yellow) if you put it into the TG01 adapter. (for info, red is usually designated RIGHT, and is the very tip of the plug, white is LEFT and is the 'ring' in the middle)
If, however, the TV Out functionality is embedded in chipset, but disabled in software, then with a dedicated TV Out cable such as the one linked above, there is a chance that it would work. I must admit, I never thought I'd use it on my old Nokia N95, but I did - quite regularly.
So who's going to buy the cable and test it?

¿ Perquè no, Pere ?, sembla més un problema de software que de hardware, ja que hi ha cables per a treure TV per USB.
¿ Why not ?, it seems a software problem, not a hardware one. Because they are cables that can send TV signal via USB.

Unfortunately not straight off. I have just tried with my TG01 and a Samsung UTC-200M.BSTG microUSB to Phono Video out cable. It is possible to get audio through the TV set (seems just on one channel so far), but I've not been able to get any video. The video on the TG01 gets scrambles whn connected up - still a recognisable picture in Core Player, but heavily distorted, horizontal streaks and sometimes a green border to the left side.
I have also tried connecting to the PC using Pocket Controller Pro and found that while it has no trouble with the 'normal' TG01 screen, it doesn't seem able to display the video window from Core Player.
Perhaps someone who has a greater knowledge of the inner workings of video display can shed some light ?
It may of course be as simple as the TG01 not having some vital hardware components.
I will try contacting the Nuetools developer and see if they have any ideas.....
Regards,
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Not sure if it's the same thing but in Coreplayer i have noticed that if you have a setting selected this sometimes causes the banding and green border to the left - see if turning this off makes the image clear :-
Tools >> Preferences >> Select Page >> Advanced
Untick 'Less Rotation Tearing (slower)' and see if this clears it up
Look forward to hearing the results!
Cheers
Paul
Paul,
Thanks for the suggestion. It doesn't actually make any difference whether the 'Less Rotation Tearing' is checked or not in this case; however, I did have a look at the other Video settings and found that Video Output was set to Direct Draw. I've changed that to GDI and it seems more stable and no repeat of the green border / banding effect.
Unfortunately, however, despite cycling though all the video settings I can find, both in Core Player and NueCPL-TV Out I am still unable to get any video output to the TV via the uUSB cable. Both audio channels do work correctly via the white and red plugs.
I'm just about to try contacting the NueROM developer and see whather they can offer any further ideas...

Estic segur.....I bet that if Toshiba was able to provide this performance onTG01 (TV OUT..Wow!!!) , they would be very idiot if they didn't published it everywere....
maybe it works with a micro-sd-to-vga-adapter

Greetings Programs!
I have found the recovery menu for Sony's Google TV/BluRay player!
Here are the details on how to access it (from my original post here: androidforums.[COM]/google-tv/201827-sony-google-tv-hack.html)
OK... so I found out how to get into recovery mode on the Sony Google TV/BluRay player that was released yesterday.
1.Have everything plugged into the unit except the power coord. Have the power coord in your hand.
2.Press and hold the power button and plug the unit in.
3.Continue to hold down the power button for 3 seconds after plugging it in, then release the power button.
4.Wait a couple of seconds and it will say Sony, then you will see the recovery screen.
5.After it loads, press and hold the connect button on the unit. Then follow the directions at the bottom of the screen (Press and hold ALT+ENTER) for 8 seconds/until the bottom message changes. It will change back to it saying that you have to press the CONNECT button, but your remote IS connected.
6.You can now press the numbers assigned to the commands!
WARNING: This could possibly brick your unit and could possibly void your warranty. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device.
I am going to work on trying to find working drivers and I am going to try to use the Android SDK Tools to install some applications, or at the least try to execute some shell commands. Hopefully we can root it!

Lets start hacking!
awesome, I will have to keep my eye on this. google TV plus angry birds would be awesome.
Looking forward to seeing this thing cracked! I'm hoping someone will be able to get a USB tuner to work on one, so those without cable or satellite will be able to get TV content without the hassle of another set-top box.
Nice.... Wonder what the possibilities are

OK Guys, I am still working on it. Heres a video of me booting it into the recovery mode.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L21guovXDsc
Thanks for the information about recovery, I tried it, and was able to get into recovery. I tried writing the logfile to USB, and it "seemed" to work, but after mounting the USB stick on my linux machine, I didn't see any files there.
I bought the Sony NSZ-GT1 so I could port my Android app Better Terminal Emulator Pro onto Google TV. I already ported it to Android-x86 in preparation for this, but seems like I could not ADB into the Google TV over Ethernet. Frustrated, I decided to take a screwdriver to my Google TV, and did a "teardown" as a result. You can see what the guts look like here:

Sorry the pictures are not that great, I used my Moto Droid to take them, and the lighting was terrible.

ETHERNET? Hasnt anyone tried USB A to USB A cable? I've been busy all day. Gonna go get one tomorrow and figure it out for myself I guess. Can't stand that they have ALREADY corrected the hulu fix for the thing. Why shouldn't I be able to access my paid July plus account? Oh well.
Try USB a to USB a!!!!!
USB A to A will definitely not work. All of the USB ports are connected through internal SMSC 4-port hubs. There are two hubs in the unit, one in the back with 3 ports going to external connectors, and one going to the WLAN module. Up front there is another 4-port hub going to the front USB connector, and presumably to a BT module, but I didn't take mine far enough apart to be sure.
There is one large connector over near the CPU that might have some debug stuff on it.There are also about three 4-pin connectors populated, one of which might be a UART. There is also a footprint for another. Tomorrow I'll get my oscilloscope out and see if any of those pins wiggle on boot.

Yeah, the big long/wide plug. I was looking at the inside of my box too. First day jitters. Anyway, I was also going to start looking for a serial port connection through one of those ports. Good luck and post right away if you find something!
If somene with an ethernet sniffer who has not booted their box yet can catch a sniff of the update download, it might be possible to get the update.zip URL, then we could try hacking the update and install it via recovery. This method was very popular with Android devices... but there you could get the update URL from the logcat
-Howard.
Have we not figured out how to use log copy? It doesn't seem to like anything i plugged in to copy to...

Great job guys! My friend is going to be getting a GTV later this week, and I will try to get it from him before he boots it up. Guess I will stop trying USB A to USB A.
Will post results later tonight.
Another possibility is to try and find the kernel source. If you look in Settings, system Information, Open Source Licenses, there is a site on Google Code that is supposed to contain the GPL'd components:
http://code.google.com/p/googletv-mirrored-source/
Going there doesn't show much except one user space component, and a link to a Sony mirror site:
http://products.sel.sony.com/opensource/
I couldn't find anything useful on the Sony site, but maybe someone else will have better luck.
I'll also try plugging in a USB Serial adapter, but my expectations are pretty low that I'd be able to get a console from that. It's interesting that there are so many USB ports on the Google TV. I wonder what other USB peripherals might be supported? I can see the front port being used for a USB memory stick, and maybe one on the back for a camera, but that still leaves two unused ports. Any idea what Sony/Google might have intended them for?

hmm
I have this unit and usb keyboards and mice do work . Also iremember a rep saying the logitech cam would work with the sony blu-ray also. I think you would need to wait for the android store to open though for an app that uses it.

Did you look here : sony.net/Products/Linux/TV/NSZ-GT1.html
That looks like it, thanks! Nice that they have minicom and busybox listed there, so there is hope that some hacking tools are preloaded on the Google TV.

Not sure if this helps anyone or not, but i ran a port scan on my box and there are 2 ports 9551 and 9552 that are accepting TCP connections.
nmap -p - <IP address of NSZ-GT1>
result :
PORT STATE SERVICE
9551/tcp open unknown
9552/tcp open unknown
I tried to get ADB to connect to those ports but did not work.
Steps that I tried :
1) export ADBHOST=<IP address of my PC>
2) adb kill-server
3) adb devices
No ADB devices were returned
4) adb connect <IP address of Sony NSZ-GT1>:9551
5) adb shell
Got error "error: device offline"
6) repeat steps 4 and 5 except with port 9552 and got same result
I am no expert in any of this stuff so the above might just be sending someone down a rabbit hole but I figured I might share in case it might be helpful to some of the smarter people on here.
Try "adb devices" and see if it show anything.
I looked at the kernel from the Sony site:
http://www.sony.net/Products/Linux/TV/NSZ-GT1.html
Here are some findings:
Linux kernel version: 2.6.23.18_nl-btv
Kernel config:
arch/i386/configs/btv_defconfig
CONFIG_USB_SMSC9500=m
Note the SMSC 9500 USB/Ethernet is one of only two loadable modules in the kernel config. Maybe this has some significance, like maybe they use a second Ethernet port for development.

Very interesting.... I am thinking of getting a second unit to try to intercept the update.zip.... would anyone be able to tell me how I would do this?
I hope someone can point me in the right direction for this.
I have a Bluetimes MX5 android tv box for the past year or so. The HDMI has stopped working for the last few weeks.
Only the standard AV is working.
I've reflashed the image on it but still not working. I've tried different cables and TVs but all the same. The box is running a custom rom called Dharmageddon V3.
There was a glimmer of hope when I first connected after disabling auto detect hdmi settings, the picture came up for a few seconds and then went blank again.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Hi,
It sounds like a hardware issue to me, either bad cable, or bad hdmi port on the box or TV.
You can ask for other opinions in this section though,

Good luck!
Dear folks,
I own a S805 IP TV box from XORO. Unfortunately I am facing big issues connecting the box to a screen using a HDMI-DVI cable.
Over all I have tried 5 cables and had to send them back as they did not work!
Only way is to either buy a new screen! .....or disable the crap..
Could someone pls help me out as I am not very familiar with that android stuff. Device already rooted!
I found this one:
https://gitlab.com/pbeeler/pa-android-packages-apps-settings/commit/2ba9745180b2bb3400d0e1376552902d1b27c89a
and this

But do not know how to use it
I appreciate any help!
Kind regards Soldiaz
For several days I have been trying to solve one extremely strange problem that arose when working with the Huawei MatePad Pro 11 tablet.
This tablet definitely knows how to output an image to an external monitor or TV through its Type-C port.
To do this, you need to use special adapters or docking stations that can output an image via Type-C to the HDMI port.
Unfortunately, none of the adapters I've tried have worked properly!
I tried two adapters - Ugreen CM511 and Xiaomi 5-in-1 dockstation.
Both adapters perfectly display the image through the Type-C port to the HDMI port if they are connected to laptops or computers, as well as to other tablets that have the ability to work with the so-called "HDMI Alt Mode".
However, whenever I try to connect either of these two adapters to my Huawei MatePad 11 Pro tablet and then connect the HDMI cable to the adapter and monitor/TV, a message appears on the tablet screen with the following text:
"Projection
Connection failed. Please reconnect the cable or restart the device."
After that, you can reconnect the adapter or cable at least as many times and the exact same message will appear. Rebooting the tablet also does not solve the problem.
At the same time, for other acquaintances - owners of exactly the same tablet as mine, everything works fine, and the "Projection" system application with the indicated adapters starts successfully without error, offering two options for broadcasting images to an external monitor / TV. When choosing any option with someone else's tablet, everything works fine.
I already "broke my brain" trying to understand what happened in Harmony OS on my tablet and what kind of failure happened?
I can not do a full reset on the tablet. Too much specific paid software is installed on it.
It will be a real hell if I have to reinstall everything "from scratch" after a hard reset.
I kindly ask experienced users to try to help me with tips to solve this extremely strange problem.
Thank you!
And yet I found the cause of this problem and its solution!
Here on this friendly mobile forum I explained everything in detail:
