I've noticed when looking through the various firmwares available on xperifirm that many of the same firmware versions have different releases eg 23.4.A.1.200_R3C, 23.4.A.1.200_R5C, 23.4.A.1.200_R7C
Can someone explain what the difference is between the R3C, R5C and R7C?

The 3.33.720.6 was recently released in India along with the ICS OTA update whereas the 3.33.401.6 firmware is the one released in Europe, which all the devs are re-basing their ROMs on.
Have any of the devs out there compared the two or something? I'm asking mainly out of curiosity and because I don't want to run into any problems with ROMs etc.
HTC does not release changelogs, and the cooks don't really disect everything in a rom for side by side comparisons. It's possible, but would be extremely time consuming for little changes.
If the India rom is a carrier based rom then most of the changes would simply be those made to conform to carrier requests...
Thanks.
I was just going through a thread about RUUs and it had a list of regions with their corresponding region code. x.xx.720.x is the region code for Europe whereas x.xx.401.x is they region code for India. So I'm guessing that the only notable differences would be the CID in the android-info.txt file, since they're OTA files and the other numbers are identical.

Correct except region code for Europe is x.xx.401 and India is x.xx.702
I see some websites that post download links to download official firmwares that are made by manufacturers and carriers. How do the people who upload these firmwares get them? How do I guarantee that these are official and original firmwares and not modified? And what websites do you recommend to download official firmwares?

It depends on your specific device. I, personally, wouldn't trust anything that isn't direct from your manufacturer or highly recommended here.
Hello,
Marshmallow is rolling out to the Xperia Z5, but for my Market/Operation (Netherlands/Customized NL) there is no release yet, but I am impatience.
Can I just install any other Counter/Customized version without issues?
If so, what are the differences between a Customized-DE and an Customized-NL at all?
sure, you can flash any region/country customized versions. the main differences are the pre-installed apps, like amazon, sky go, etc..
then there are some minor changes like notification icons. the branded firmwares also have some small ui changes.
if i remember right, the cust. RU and NOBA versions have less bloatware installed like cust. DE for example.
just try it out, you can do nothing wrong.
edit: oh, probably the japanese version wont work lol, since its a different firmware number

Thanks for your reply
I use XperiaFirm to download the firmware, so I guess I will go with the Russian 32.1.A.1.163 version than.
Since I plan to do a clean install, since this is a major update, I have my backups ready :fingers-crossed:
Just try not to take the chinese version, it has no google play or google apps...
I say in 2017 because it seems like they're not getting the latest firmware updates recently. Contrary to what made them better than other ROM product codes.
I recently switched to a BTU ROM because I've read that it's the unbranded ROM version for SM-G920F. And that it also receives firmware updates earlier than others. But I also couldn't find much information about the difference between BTU and XEU.
All I know is both of them are unbranded, and contains no carrier add-ons, and are generally preferred overall; if you're not planning on using carrier specific services like Voice over LTE.
Anyone care to explain?

BTU firmware are on phones that come directly from Samsung (unbranded)
XEU firmware are on Sim Free handsets that are generic (unbranded) but not from Samsung.
That's what I've found digging through the forums

Yeah, that's what I found too. But I don't really understand it to be honest. Aren't they basically the same thing? Why would Samsung need to release a separate rom version for unbranded phones that did not come from them directly?

However much I like my s6 this is Samsung you're talking about, they release a million variants of one phone so I have no idea why they would release the different firmwares.
What does Generic LAM firmware means?
and whats the different between it and the customized version ?
also what does the "R2B", "R3B", "R4B" refer to at the end of the firmware names?
thanks.
"Generic" means the firmware is not altered according to the local flavors, while "Customized" implies otherwise.
R<X>B is just the revision reference of the firmware.
