Couldn't find this in a forum search

Says Qi and works with N4, but can't find it in the Qi site and there's no Qi symbol on it, so probably not approved (but neither are all the N4's currently out there [pre-rev 12])
$40 shipped and could be the basis of an in-car solution...

Yup, I (re)found the USB version.

Fasttech USB Qi Charger
Ordered mine today, says 10-14 days shipping directly from fasttech. When I get it ill throw up some pics and a review on how it works.

On an unrelated note, I've never heard of this website before, it looks very promising! I have a feeling I will be throwing my money at my screen soon.

Efficient output is just 500-700mA? Too small to charge N4?
I thought the standard one is around 1A or over.

500-700 mA is perfectly ok for charging. When you charge from a computer via USB, the max current is 500 mA unless you use kernel tweaks.

It's got to depend on the output (mA) the USB power adaptor has to offer too. They even show it connected to a laptop USB port. So I think it WILL charge, but maybe significantly slower than a direct power connection.
By using a lower output USB power supply, sounds like you might be able to trade charge speed with temperature rise. If so it may be ideal as a charger to keep your phone topped up. Kind of like a low power trickle charger, which would be fine if my phone is on it most of the day... I actually don't like the idea of Qi chargers that make the phone get hot - seems to be trading convenience and wear on the phone's USB connector with reduced battery service life as it keeps going through nasty heat cycles?

not sure about that, it might charge If your not doing anything, but say if using gps it might not supply enough juice to charge fast enough

I agree, Used in a car with GPS on, maybe pulling 3G data for maps, bright screen, etc., it's likely that despite this charger, the phone will slowly go flat. And get hot doing so... All that energy from the battery/charger has to go somewhere - mainly heat once the battery is charged. If the phone's consuming, say 750mA at around 4.1v battery voltage, that's around 3W of heat to dissipate.

I am investing time looking for a Qi charger but that problem appears to be present on several cheap alternatives, the current they supply is not enough, or you might expend a couple of extra hours charging your phone

Just a quick update, ordered from fast tech on Jan 29th and received shipping notification today (Jan. 31st), registered airmail with tracking from Hong Kong post.

I do have this wireless charger. Ordered from aliexpress, it's always the same with different branding and logos.
It does the job, charging.
But:
Need to be very precise when positioning it
Back glass make the phone sliding, and cancel all the effort offered in the above point, making the phone not charging
I recommend to wait for a charger with more than only one wireless charging chip/antenna.

Ok I have this charger now. On first charge and working ok so far... Seems to be best in this position. Has now cut off an an indicated 99%...

Lining up the edge of the charger with where the bottom of the LCD is, seems reliable. Using an XtremeGuard style protector on the back, which gives enough friction to stop sliding if the charger is horizontal and the phone vibrates.
Above is FastTech image. I'm using stock N7 charger and cable at the moment because it was handy. Unit came with a USB charger and cable (with EU plug - I'm UK based)

Picked up phone and used it to 98%. Returned to charger and it charged back to 99%, but didn't beep this time when charging started. Maybe it needs to be more discharged before this happens....

Now at 100%. Charger seems to poll the Nexus about every 30 secs (solid blue light for a few secs) to see if it needs charging. Then light goes off. When it charges, the blue light flashes slowly but continuously.

Did anybody try the Large models?
For some reason they are cheaper even though they come in black or white and have the Qi logo/writing on it.

They are reported to work. I wanted the flexibility of being able to use alternate sources of power (car, pc, wall adaptor). have yet to try limited power available from a PC's USB port...

(Super) cheap Qi charger $11.5/8,5€

Okay guys, I ran in to this . It's k51 Qi Charger from Dx.com and it's on sale. It costs only $11.5 (was $20) and for that price I decided to order it. There's also a black version available: http://deals.dx.com/team.php?id=4701
Okay I just received mine. It is very very light and feels kinda cheap (well duh, what can you expect for 8,5 euros? ). It looks pretty good, I'm not sure if I like the leds on it. They aren't too bright or anything but they just don't fit with the white theme. It also makes this little sound when it starts charging. This may be con for someone, but it doesn't bother me.
First thing i noticed that the batterly level didn't rise up even though phone was on the charger for a half and hour. I tried the cable with the original charger and the charging status (in *#*#info#*#* -thingy) kept flashing between USB, AC and Unplugged. So the cable is faulty. I tried the original cable and everything was fine.
The charging area (or the "sweet spot" as Zenety called it) is decent. I don't know if theres a difference between the white and black one, but in mine you don't have to put it precisely in the middle of the charger for it to work. The green charging light doesn't always light up but phone is still charging.
The charging works pretty good when without case and also with Headcase, but when using Ringke Hybrid you need to put the phone precisely on the "sweet spot" for it to work. With leatherpouch it didn't work at all. Surface is very slippery and your phone can move around quite easily. I'm gonna find out if there anything to do with that.
Can anyone recommend app that allows me to see charging current? I could compare it to original LG wallcharger?

Forgive me, but I never quite got the point of using a wireless charger. Besides the novelty of not having to connect a cable, don't the disadvantages outweigh the benefits? I mean, for one, you can't pick up the device while it's charging. And it also charges slower than on an AC wall charger.

I like the idea that the charging will stop when the battery gets full and so it's perfect to use at night. I don't know for sure, but I think that keeping the phone plugged do the AC wall charger isn't good for the battery's lifespan.

Wall charger will also stop charging when full (as the battery is li-po), but maintains a trickle charge overnight, which should have little or no effect on battery lifespan.

i had one like this, the magnet wasnt very strong, i could get it to connect but sometimes it would stop so i couldnt rely on it.
the light changed colour once connected.
it was a hassle trying to get it to charge, i thought i could just slap the phone on it and it would detect but i guess due to the large surface area the phone needs to be in the dead center,
you could also have the phone dead center and it wouldnt detect, i had to hover the phone half a centimeter around for it to detect and you can feel the magnetic pull, took me 1-3 seconds to trigger the charge
it was much simpler just charging via USB.
i would buy one again and open it and put it in a smaller housing like the size of the phone,maybe use a better magnet
a few people i know swear by these chargers but they have the official products,
the nexus4 will tickle charge once it reaches upto 90% to preserve the battery life.

Well I hope that this one won't have problems like above. It may have, maybe it will. I'll just have to wait and try it for myself. I dont think that charging with this one will be any slower since in the specs it says: "1. Input: 5V, 2A 2. Output: 5V, 1A" so if you use usb-charger that has 2A output it shouldn't be that much slower. If you use the original charger then it might take forever to fully charge?
The main reason I decide to buy this is the fact that I charge my phone every day. And sometimes I have to plug it out and back in few times a day because I need run some errands etc. Do you see where I'm going with this? The micro-usb port will take heck of alot "beating" daily and I've read so many stories (in general) about micro-usb being not as durable as it should be. So wireless charger will preserve my micro-usb port from over wearing and my phone will a long, happy, life

I have ordered one. Just for the main purpose of opening it and using the Qi charging pad in another housing. Got some cool idea's to experiment with!
EDIT: Oh yeah, and I bought the black one instead. Not that I need the actual housing, but if it doesn't work out like I want it to, i'd rather go for the same color as my nexus.

I now own a Nexus 5 & it works even better than the Nexus 4.
Mind you, they are a lot cheaper now than they were last year!!

Received mine yesterday. The sweet spot is obviously very small. It came with a white cable, was hoping for a black one. But my n900 charger will be fine too

Haven't had it on for very long. About 2 hours, felt like normal warmth like charging with micro USB. It's REALLY smooth. The Nexus will really fall of very fast, I have to make sure it's on a flat surface. Also if you move the device a bit it will stop charging, when you move it back it won't start charging again.
You will have to lift the phone up, and put it down again. Kinda annoyed by that, but hey, what can you expect for 8 euro's :good:

Yes I have one, I like it. I took it apart and removed the little speaker that beeps when you put the phone on.. it charges at 650mA.. so better than USB and just a bit slower than high quality cables with a wall charger.. ( 800mA).. so now I use it at work, its super easy to charge the phone with a wireless charger when working in a cubicle... you pick it up and put it down without the hassle of cables connected to your phone..

Fast Chargers

The LG V10 does support Qualcomm 2.0 Fast Charging. Here are the models of Batteries, Car Chargers and Wall Chargers that I have tested and confirmed that work with the V10 . I will include some video reviews as well.

yes, the charger that comes with the V10 is a quick charge and most micro USB cables (should) work with the quick chargers.

The Samsung adaptive quick charger from the S6/Note 5 seems to be working well. Just an FYI if anyone has one laying around.

Yes I am trying to look back at where I got my cable now. This is the heavier duty, longer cable I use. It says in the description a few different things that makes me think it is compatible. I guess I'll find out for sure when I get the device in my hands.

FYI I would reccommend this cable if you are looking for a longer cable that is heavy duty. I am sure most have used Anker products in the past, the quality is present in this product as well, I have had mine for close to a year with no issues.

I love Anker product, such high quality! The dual port car charger supplied 2 amps per port. The desk charger supplies 2amps per port over 5 ports and over the last year I've purchased 40+ usb cables in varying legnths. 10ft - 1ft. Connections are always snug and no wiggle on my phones. I keep giving these things away when a co worker needs a cable, they always notice that their device charges faster, especially if they no longer have the oem cable.

Quick Charge not compatible with charge-only cable
In order to prevent data theft I prefer to use a charge-only cable when plugging my phone into any port outside my home.
According to Qualcomm, Quick Charge 2.0 is designed to be connector-independent and is designed to minimize charging issues associated with long or thin cables, allowing for a superior charging experience, independent of cable type.
However, since the high-efficiency transfer of electricity requires the D+/D- data lines for effective handshaking and communication, it will not work with a charge-only cable.

I have to say the quick charge lg charger still takes twice as long as my note 4 edge to charge...

Other than stock cable, PNY cable works pretty well especially with Anker 8A intelligent charger.

With screen off or you looking at it checking? The lg g4 turns off qc while screen is on. Perhaps the v10 does the same.

I haven't noticed any significant difference between screen on or off.. Don't quote me I've had the phone less than 3 days.

OK I see, humm try installing the app Ampere, it shows charge/discharge. It isn't exact but it gives a reference.

I can say without a doubt charging with the Samsung quick charger from the S6/Note5 charges the V10 faster than the LG quick charger. Luckily I have several around the house.

I think that is due to the fact that the LG charges at 2.0 vs the Sammy.
I'll have to pick up an aftermarket charger on Amazon or something. Anyone recommend one that they use with a higher charging rate than the LG one?

something i found out bay accdent is it doesnt always fast charge. its not an option to turn it off but from what i can tell if your phone is to hot when pluged in it just does a normal charge. greatest thing ever
and i did try it on two chargers that have fast charge the one in the box and the note 4 charger but it didnt start the fast charge. once the phone was cool i actually unpluged to go somewhere came back ten minutes later pluged in and there it was fast chargeing.

It appears though it may charge faster than normal charging methods with screen on, that it almost quadrupled charging rate with screen off according to Ampere.
Take it for what it's worth, I am not sure how accurate it is, that second screenshot was taken just after turning the screen back on, where it proceeded to recalculate and then displayed around 700 again.

Awesome thanks for testing that, it seems to be just like the LG G4 but slightly higher (500 screen on, 2200 screen off). Ampere is a guestimate, but I use USB Doctor sleeves to verify. What charger did you use to test?
Edit: according to your screen shots, they were 2 mins apart, you went from 8% to 11%, gained 3%~

Wireless Charging Car Mount

I'm coming from a Nexus 5 and had gotten pretty used to wireless charging. Had a mount in my car that supported Qi, and it had been at least a year since I messed with a USB cable.
Love my new Moto X and bought a coil that takes up the micro USB, but am having trouble finding a car mount big enough to support the larger MXPE. Any ideas?

It's pretty generic, but you have to have a thin case for it to work. You also have to get the coil with the microUSB oriented the right direction or else it will cover the screen.
I use this case which I like, but the coil shows through covering the bottom of the Motorola logo which doesn't look too pretty.

Tylt typically has sales often so don't let the high price be a detraction. They make nice products. Sign up for the email so get the sales. The vu car mount would easily handle the mxpe.
Edit: sprung for a qi coil similar (rerrii on Amazon) to the one you have. Invested in a case too. I did notice that there are only a couple cases that cover the Moto M. Tudia slim arch and JOTO hybrid to name a couple.

I like the Tylt, but I can't use it. I installed a USB charging port in my car (splicing the constant hot from the stereo). It charges much faster than the lighter port, which for some reason doesn't always work. So I was looking for something to straight to USB.

Should be enough room there for both the pad and the MXPE. I'll use velcro tape on the mount and the pad to keep it in place (glue gun probably won't hold up in Florida sun). It arrives tomorrow, we'll see what happens.

I was also interested in wireless charging, so I got one of these universal charging pads for a few bucks. It plugs into the micro-usb port, and can be tucked into the case since it's very thin. Similar to this one:

The good news is that it works, is very convenient, and it doesn't generate much heat. The bad news is that it's horribly slow. I tried two different charging pads to make sure it wasn't the pad, and used it on my in-car 3-coil charger base, and multiple desk 3-coil chargers (which charged other phones at a reasonable pace).
To describe what I mean by slow - Ampere reports charging rate fluctuating around 200-400mA, however, it seems to only charge 10% per hour or so. I left it to charge last night at 30%, and I woke up and it's not even full.
If anybody else is getting better results, please let me know.

Don't forget that your phone is also using the battery at night. A charging rate of 200-400mA would barely cover the consumption, and that's why your phone doesn't seem to charge. IMHO anything less than 1000mA is useless with most current phones, and the standard really is 3000mA+ with Quickcharge 2.0.

Yeah I've more or less given up on the universal wireless receiver. It just takes way too long. Maybe one day there's be fast wireless charging receivers.

how well does the universal wireless charging coil charge? 10% an hour? if that's the case then there's really no point even using tbh. I really wished the Moto X Pure had wireless charging out of the box

Yeah it's too slow to really be useful. I tried two different universal charging receivers, of different design. What's unusual is that I used to use this solution on my LG G2 (which also had a 3000mAh) battery and it was much quicker.
I suspect there must be some difference in either the USB circuitry or maybe the kernel I'm using, as some kernels support an accelerated USB charging rate. In any case, looks like no good for now. Maybe one day there'll be universal charging receivers which support fast charge (like the S6/S7 has).

I saw this thread a few days ago and ordered the Tylt from Amazon. Due to the curved back adding to the thickness of the phone, it didn't work very will with my 2015 Pure Edition. Sending it back to Amazon. FYI...

I want a QI compatible back cover. Rumours, news, releases?

I really like the back cover idea, even though I'm not sure I will be buying a battery back, at least not yet as they're waaay too expensive.
However, one enormous oversight from Lenovo/Moto is that the stock back cover doesn't have a QI receiver built in.
It's thick enough that a slim QI coil would fit comfortably, and not add any bulk from the "style mod"
It appears that the phone itself has the electronics required built in, so the thickness should not be affected.
(Based on the fact that there's a system service preinstalled about wireless charging)
I haven't been able to find anything on ebay or google, has anyone heard or seen something interesting?

Still no rumors but it's a bit early... anyway I'm pretty sure that a QI compatible cover and a slimmer battery pack (1000 mAh?) will be some of the first third parts MODs developed...

I'm assuming you are NOT looking for the Incipio battery with Qi Charger built in? I got one of those at best buy and love it, but there's no denying that it adds a bit of heft to the phone. Personally, I don't mind this at all and prefer a slightly thicker phone.

Well, for one that battery doesn't appear to get released in Sweden. The only back pack available is the non wireless at 120 something bucks. It's priced a little extreme imo..
(All things wireless charging are really hard to come by locally. Strange really since IKEA actually makes qi compatible furniture these days..)
And it really is a little on the thick side, although the fact that I can drop the backpack directly on a charger and still have my phone is genius.
A backpack with at most 1mm extra bulk from a style cover and some miniscule 1Ah battery built in would be cool though.
Should be possible, the ipad air has some really thin cells inside, I've used butchered ipad air batteries for several projects.
As a side note, the Chinese super premium brand Xiaomi is about to release a 2-way QC3.0 Type C power bank.
That could be a good middle ground for me.

How much bulk added? Like the JBL speaker bulk?

The Incipio battery is wireless charging ready, just check the model. I don't have any camera but you can see the three mods and compare them.

Yes, but please note that model in picture is without wireless charge option (MT-381-WHT).
Models with wireless charge are MT-382-WHT (white) and MT-382-BLK (black), even if they are identical from exterior ....
These days they are very hard to find and reserved by Motorola to few markets only...

After spending 25 minutes on the phone to Lenovo sales (rather than risk ordering the wrong one online) and having it double checked twice I'm waiting to return what they sent - just a moto mod charge pack not a wireless one as ordered.
After another three calls it turns out they are not in the UK yet.... unless you know differently??

Ugh... I sooo hate that. I mean, I know mistake happen, but when you do as much research as you possible can and double check with the company alerting them to the potential for a mixup and they still send you the wrong thing!

Versions listed on amazon in europe have a different code from the above, but are all without wireless, so they are about MT-381-xxx with different coding...

And that was the 28th October... here we are the 12th November and they still haven't even authorised collection of the wrong item - never mind a credit And it's not for the want of trying... emails, repeated phone calls, general 'abuse' on Facebook
I hate Lenovo big style, never again!

I know this is a little off-topic but I have the Tumi wireless charging battery mod and for the life of my I can't seem to find a way to consistently charge the pack wirelessly. It would always recognize that it's on a wireless charger and start charging for a few seconds then disconnect then reconnect then disconnect...so on and so forth. Does anyone have the same issue or do I have a faulty unit?
Edit: Old Hardware: ChoeTech fast wireless charger (10w max output) + ChoeTech adaptive fast charger wall brick + Generic USB A to Micro USB (to power the wireless charger)
Originally I had my ChoeTech Fast wireless charger hooked up as shown above. The issue wasn't the Tumi, the wireless charger or the power brick. It was the generic cable I used to plug the brick into the wireless charging pad. I switched to a higher quality cable that I knew would work with the max output of the adaptive fast charging wall brick and all my issues went away! Hope that helps!
