As someone who didn't think the galaxy s3 was going to feel like that major of an upgrade over the Hercules, I gotta say, I tried it out. And then having been fairly convinced by the display, I traded my Hercules + cash for the pebble blue one off Craigslist.
Gotta say, wow. AOKP JB runs literally with no bugs for me (some ppl have call echo but I'm lucky enough to not), AND and just wow. I never knew how much of an upgrade this device was. If anyone out there is skeptical about upgrading, don't be. You won't regret the switch.

If its running AOKP, then it cant do anything the SII cant do. Its just a bit quicker. I'll avoid the impulse buy and see what comes this fall.

I've been tempted to lately just since it's been so long since I've had a new gadget. But honestly, not sure if I want to go with another device that's held at the mercy of carriers/manufacturers for updates. I want the next Nexus to come out soon...
I assure you its not worth it. If you have money to burn, go ahead. I've had and returned it for a gs2
hey its one of those posts that gives the op justification and gratification for buying a product!
I can totally say that the s2 has AOKP JB with literally no bugs, some ppl have RR and SOD but I'm fortunate enough to not have those bugs!
I'm just messing with you OP. enjoy your S3, i will join you when i break my s2.

Well I wasn't shallow enough to upgrade just because of aokp, I think that'd be just a liiiiittle bit weird. Just sayin.
The display and smooth interface was what got me, it's significantly better than the s2, totally never expected it to be be. And more than an impulse buy, it's a phone that I think will last a long time. Mostly posting this for those who were questioning upgrading.
Cool story bro. I hope you like it better than my best friend likes his.
My friend has one and like blackangst said. My friend hates his and is wanting to get another S2.
I'll get one once the price comes waaaaay down on Craigslist for them. The screen and camera are about the only legitimate upgrades from our device

A few of my friends have it. Its much faster, (side by side app loading and gaming) the screen is much better, the camera sensors wreck the ones on this phone, the battery life is MUCH better.. what exactly isn't worth it to you? Youve had this agenda against the s3 for awhile now and im starting to doubt if youve had the handset at all. The phone is an overall upgrade. Were you expecting it to make you breakfast??? I dont get some of you noobs. This phone is great but the over infatuation some of these people have with the t989 is overwhelming. Personally im waiting to jump back into the nexus line.
Actually my buddy also went from the t989 to the s3. The only thing he doesnt like about it is that wifi reception is a bit sketchy compared to the t989 but hes loving everything else about it. Hes a current tmobile employee and says the s3 is the best handset tmos got in its line up. Id say its a worthy upgrade for the 720p samoled screen alone.

Why get a S3 now when the note 2 is right around the corner and the new nexus probably coming right afterwards?

Yeah the International note 2 is around the corner, god knows if tmobile will even get it, as for the nexus, it's a cool phone but as long as it doesn't have ex sd I will never get one. I myself really want to upgrade to the S3, but I'm a little hesitant as I have seen some of my friends' S3 already scratched from the screen. One of my friends had an s2 and now the s3 and he cracked the screen after only one drop. He said the drop wasn't even that bad. And I'm a person who doesn't like any cracks or scratches on the phone screen. And I fumble my phone a lot lol

Interesting maybe i should check on the durability.
I'm the same way, keep my phone nice and pristine, but i rarely drop my phone. I actually only dropped it 3 times. 2 with case phew, and once without... Which was the worst thing possible... i put it in my shirt pocket got out of the car.... Bent over to check my tires a routine i do weekly.... Bam onto my bricked type driveway... on the corner too... I stare at my flawed Bezel every day from then on... I never leave anything in my shirt pocket from that day forward. What made it worse was that right before i got out of the car i just removed my full film protection for that corner because it was getting uhhh linty/dirty. Felt like bad luck Brian lol

Can I ask why ppl went back? I know the person I got mine from just didn't like the center button, which I actually like. Worked out to be a good deal for both parties.
Also, regarding screen scratches, why the hell don't ppl just buy some $5-10 screen protectors on Amazon for their $600 device?? This seems like an obvious fix to me..
Also, the original international note didn't work on tmobile 3g/4g, nor am I likely to find the deal I got for this for one of those behemoths. Expandable memory is what won me over a nexus device also, I already have the tablet so this fits what I want a bit more.
protectors will resist some scratches, but what we were worry about is the screen cracking............... I've dropped my phone waist high on concrete and uneven ground yet minimal damages. If his friend barely dropped it and it shattered his screen... It sounds very weak.., like iPhone weak.. I've seen my friends and people drop their iPhone from sitting Down and you can hear the glass shatter.. If it's like that... I rather not buy it.
If you haven't noticed there are very few cases of broken screens in this phone section. Hence i would like to see how the s3 holds up.

Yes exactly what I am worried about. Because I myself have dropped this phone and its landed in every position imaginable, yet there is not a single scratch on the screen. As for iphones, yeah I don't think I have seen one yet without some kind of screen damage lol

I for one will wait to see who's going to carry the note 2, tmobile already dropping the first note after a few weeks is a good sign noting that they got on board with samsung with the note and maybe wanted to test the waters or might have been part of the contract of them signing on for the note 2. Either way I'm heading the note or new galaxy way with tmobile or not. Which would be straight talk because att can kiss my a$$.. But yea the nexus really needs that external slot and hopefully not have the headphone jack on the bottom of the phone.. smh
I made the mistake of upgrading to the sensation when it first came out, then the s2 then the gnex, then the one x came out so i learned my lesson n wait for the fall, after all software its what makes any outdated phone like new, and the s2 runs jelly bean like a champ and even with the little random bugs its a daily driver, we are less than 3 months for the new nexus device to come out, the new phones out there are still dual cores, better ones yeah, but still our phones are capable of the same features, and not all apps are compatible with ics and not to mention jb, so at this time of the year, why rush to buy a device that will be outdated in 3 months?

Duuuude, I almost did the same thing with the sensation. My EX girl was able to get an extra line and we were planning on getting me a phone and I was getting the sensation. For some reason we never did and we ended breaking up a little later. So when I went to TMobile to get a line on my own I got the s2. Thank god for that. Imagine, I'd be stuck with a sensation and under my ex's name. Phew

Has held up fine for me, I always keep my phone in a case after I ruined my vibrants screen a year back. Might say I'm paranoid of all screens breaking after that lol
Hey XDA. Have had an issue for awhile and wanted to know what you guys think.
Ok. I have the Note for almost a month now. During this time it has shut itself off 3 times and has restarted itself a few times. All of which happened with around 78% battery. Is this a reason to return it? Still have like 10 days left on my 30 day return thing with bestbuy.
I got mine at best buy on august 20, probably the same time you did. Not once have I had even a force close on an app, never mind a restart. Only turned it off maybe 5 times since I had it, and no issues here. Sounds like a defective unit to me, if it were me, I would take fu'l advantage of that return policy while you can.

That is the same exact date that I got mine. And I agree with you. Just worried as to what they will say considering I started off with the Transformer Tf300 then returned it to pre order the Transformer TF700. Then I went through (3) of the TF700's all with problems. Then decided to say screw you ASUS and got the Note. Which I really like .
Just worried they will say they can't help me since the problem isn't something I can recreate . It just happens.
Its worth returning things to Bestbuy just to watch the constipated look they get on their faces like you are some sort of murderer.
They always ask you, why are you returning it with this clipped, suspicious sound in their voices. Last time I told them I didn't like how it smelled with a completely straight face.

I hate to have to return things, not to mention I have nearly an hour drive too get to best buy, I would worry that it could get worse. I guess it depends on how much it bothers you. I hear what you say about the employees there, sorry but true, when I went to get mine, no one there even heard it. They didn't know they even had them til I talked to the manager and he was actually very helpful.

Yeah so far they have been surprisingly helpful with everything so far. But up until now I could recreate or show them(dead pixels) what was wrong. This problem I can't show them and they will have to take my word for it.
Well, they open in like 5 hours for me so I may give it a shot:good:
I think you should return it, they probably had hundreds of Asus' s returned because of their numerous problems and are probably used to it. The Note on the other hand is the most stable tablet that I have owned and its never switched off on me.
Considering how much you've paid for it, don't hesitate to put up a verbal fight if you have too, start off nicely though...
I returned my note today and they accepted it with no problems or constipated looks

Ok, so I exchanged my Note 10.1 for a new one today and the one I got now seems to be okay except the insert around the camera has a spot at the top where it can be pushed in slightly. Like it sticks out a little. Not alot. What to do what to do. Really getting tired of exchanging things. Sure best buy is also. So unsure what i'm going to do. Maybe I need to stop being so picky and except the fact that most devices will have some small flaws:silly:
Maybe you should weigh the effort of deciding with the effort of actually making the return to how much the defect you have with the tablet (or what ever) is actually effecting the quality of the usefulness of the product.

I hear ya. But for 500 bucks it better be as close to perfect as possible. So i returned it today and got another one. So far everything on the outside is fine. Have yet to power it on to check the rest. And to some point I agree with you. But hey, bestbuy is 10 minutes away from me so not a huge deal. I'm sure Best buy is sick of me by now:laugh:

FYI Bestbuy will at some undetermined point stop allowing you to return iteme without notice before hand. They will just tell you that you can not make any more returns for 90 days. What they don't say is when the 90 days start and what events can extent the 90 days or that it is possible the the 90 days may be much longer.
This might be a silly question, but how do you carry such a big phone?
I came from and iphone 5, so putting the oneplusone in my jeans pocket just feels uncomfortable. I also get paranoid that i'm going to snap the phone in half if im like bending down.
So i find myself just holding it in my hands all the time...
Front pocket of my jeans. I have deep pockets.
When I'm driving, I have to whip it out! It is too big and I need to lay it out on the passenger seat.

Just don't put the phone in your backpocket, I still don't know to this day why people insist on putting their phone there. Just doesn't seem like a very smart thing to do.
I've always had my front, right pocket reserved for every phone I've ever owned. I wear fitted jeans (not skinny jeans) and the phone fits comfortable in my pocket.

Front left pocket and I always take it out before sitting down or getting in my car. You will get used to the size in a week or so and then you'll look at your old phone like it was a child's toy!
I guess thats the only place to put it then! hahaha

No, when we first saw the branding a few years back, on the side of a department store in China, we thought it was a blatant ripoff too.
OPPO - maybe how non-English speaking Chinese would say Apple!

I couldn't agree more. In comparison to my Note 5 this thing is not as good....
Screen is wayyyyy too narrow on my S8+. Glitches and slow downs after the first few days. Also many tiny annoying bugs. You'd think that after the phone being out for a while they'd fix all of the issues.

I have to wonder myself how you guys use your mobiles. Not ONE of my mobiles since the iPhone 3GS
hade any "slowdowns"! How? Very simpel. I only install apps without adds. I only install apps I really use. I dont root. I always install latest updates and watch what sites I visit with the browser. And last but not least I setup each mobile as new. I never use smartswitch or backups. When u root please be sure you know exactly what you do, else SLOWDOWNS!
Curved screen is a huge fail. I was afraid it would be fragile, and sure enough, broke on the curved edge. Since samsung stopped making flat screens my next phone will not be a super fragile samsung again.
You guys bashing sound kind of ridiculous. Saying a two-generations old phone isn't as good as the current one just seems odd. I had the Note5, Note7, S7e, and now a S8+. The S8+ is spectacular and I've had no issues with it whatsoever except for Bixby which was supposed to be a key feature being MIA. If you're having individual issues that's fine but to ridicule the phone because of whatever you're going through just makes you seem out of sync.

It is funny how any phone you buy, there is a forum full of complaints; and within those complaints there are several who broke their phone, and blame the device as being "fragile".
Buy a case. If you are super prone to accidents, get insurance for the device. Stop blaming the manufacturer for you mistake. I have never, ever broke a phone, and I am not exactly easy on them. I get a decent case, and sometimes (like the s8+), I get accident coverage.
This is no different than my buddy, who bought a brand new car years ago, and never cleaned the inside or out, nor did he wax the vehicle the paint or condition the interior leather. Now he blames Ford for the condition of his vehicle...yet my vehicle is older and looks almost new.
I love this phone.

Just got my S8+ and noticed a small 1/4 inch scratch on screen. Granted it's not easy to even see, but now that I know it's there... it's been driving me crazy, but I do have a touch of OCD and wondered what you all would do? Jumped through hoops using different cleaners with a microfiber and the little bugger is still there.

That would drive me crazy too.... I would and have taken a phone back for an imperfection.... Even if I seemed to be the only one who could see it. A new phone should not have a scratch on it when you open the box!
Hi,
Sorry for your new phone but if it's me I return it immediately because first I love my phone without scratch and secondly when I selling my phone I prefer sell a phone in great condition for don't lose many money...
But like I said, if it's me.

Return or TRY to return as soon as possible!
From where did you purchase it? A retail/carrier store? Online?
The difficult part will be convincing then you didn't scratch it. And the longer you wait, the harder that will be to do.
Appreciate all the advise. I had called last night and spent an hour on hold (This is Xfinity Mobile) and was told I would have to pay a restocking fee of $35 and some bs about the S8+ going to take over a week to get to me instead of the typical 2 days. I requested to speak to a supervisor... but after 10 mins I had enough waiting on hold.
Got up early this morning and called thinking I would get through quicker... 57 minutes on hold again! I had words with the women who finally answered and told her waiting that long is ludicrous and didn't appreciate it and that they needed more support staffing the phones.
Anyway... I explained the whole thing to this tech and about the other saying I would have to pay a restocking fee and that if she couldn't help me then get a supervisor on the phone. She checked a few things and told me a new phone is on the way with no restock fee. Got an email saying the new one will be here on Monday and that once I have it... to then follow the included instructions to send back the scratched one.
So... keep fingers crossed for me that this one doesn't come with any scratches!! LOL
Yes. Period.
