Does Juice Defender block the OTA?

Yeah...basically what the title says. Wondering if running Juice Defender to turn off my data while the screen is off will block the ota

I doubt it. Juice Defender turns on your mobile data connection at a set interval to allow apps to sync and check for updates.

That sucks that it doesn't work. Do the battery life improvements make up for it at all?

Looks like you might be running an app that doesn't give up a partial wake lock (keeps the CPU from sleeping). Use Spare Parts to look at your partial wake locks under battery history. If something is going across the screen, that's your culprit.
Otherwise I have no idea.

Juice Defender is listed as being compatible for 2.3.3. For some reason it keeps throwing error codes. It won't disconnect data when the phone is sleep.
My understand was the 2.3.3 has better battery life. That is certainly not the case for me. Its the same as 2.2 for me - 4 hours and done.

Hmm, that's not cool. You might want to grab a version off of a google search. The one in the market is a modified version of Google's free spare parts app that includes ads I believe.

According to spare Parts, stock GB ROM do not have battery history, so that explains why you are FC when attempting to view it

I dont remember if JD requires root, if it doesnt and your rooted, then root will block the update

Android system draining battery since 4.4 update

I have a UK retail device that is totally stock, no root. On 4.3 battery life was stellar but since updating to 4.4 Android system is draining the battery very quickly especially when I am off WiFi and am using 3G. It drops about 25% in 4 hours.
Yesterday I tried the nuclear option and performed a factory reset and SD wipe. When setting up again I did not restore my Google settings and started completely from scratch and only installed the bare essentials. I have Google Now enabled and my Location settings are at "Battery saving". I am using the stock launcher, etc. no mods. None of the Motorola services are enabled other than Assist for the silent period,
Alas the reset hasn't helped and Android system is again munching through my battery. My next step is to flash 4.3 and give up on 4.4 for now but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any other ideas.
Any advice is welcome. I'm wondering if this is a 3G radio issue of some kind (I am on the Three UK network).

I am with kk on en.EU firmware and battery is amazing like on 4.3. I am always in wifi and sometimes in 3g, no problem.
3g data generally drain more battery then wifi.

I'm using a little more.... maybe about 10% extra a day since updating.
Ive tried Wi-Fi on Wi-Fi off 2g and 3g and nothing makes much difference. I get about 3 days and 2 nights whatever combination I use.

I have the same experience. The battery life on 4.3 was pretty good. I expected some improvements in 4.4 however the battery draining is almost twice as fast as it was.
Google Play Services is the most power hungry app. Its version is 4.1.32. As I understood the battery usage of this app has been improved recently. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...player-new-google-drive-api-preview-and-more/
What I installed is only a custom clock widget, otherwise everything is the stock.

Twice? Come on.. Classic placebo effect!

Android system just over took screen when it comes on battery usage on my phone... This is after I turned off Google Now and changed location to Battery saving mode.

In 4.3 I managed to achive more than 4 days battery life once, Now it is on 50% after one day when I almost did not use the phone.
25% Google Play services, 14% Android system...

I factory reset a second time and have only installed the absolute bare essentials. Today the issue has gone. My suspicion is location services but I will reinstall more apps slowly until I prove this.

Please do share your result, I really don't want to root my phone and also installed too many apps to do a factory re-set without knowing it will definitely work.

I installed more apps last night and battery life is still stellar. My current suspicion is a combination of the BBC Weather app with Location mode set to High accuracy.

I disabled Google Now only and the battery draining has been normalized. I will try to enable it again.

I have exactly the same issue - since going to 4.4.2. Battery usage was great in 4.3 - but since going to 4.4 it was awful (android system using 30% of the battery overnight).
I did a factory reset - which kept me at 4.4 but uninstalled all my apps etc (and put google play services back to the original version). I then turned off location services altogether (I had tried battery saver, but it made no difference). Since then I have been having little or no issues - android system is hardly using thing overnight. Google play services has updated back to the latest version.
So it is defo to do with location services and/or some app using it to death - haven't risked turning it back on yet - but will do - might go for gps only first, then battery saver (which did no good last time). Google now is currently off - but I may turn it back on as part of my testing

Disabled location, now Android System only uses 13% of the battery instead of 35%. Still this is way too high for whatever it is used for, will keep investigating.

Battery Drain

Using my new Mi4c for a few days and I am getting terrible battery drain.
Android and Android System are accounting for 19% and 18% in my list as well as the Gallery app showing 10%.
With not much use my phone goes down from 100% to 53% in only 6 hours. And when I say not much use I mean sitting on my work desk with the screen off from 9 to 2pm with my picking it up maybe three times for a few seconds each to send or read a text.
Just came from a Sony Z3 Compact which would still be in the 80% range with the same use.
Any ideas?

Have you already tried flashing a new, clean ROM on it?

I had similar problems as you, but not as severe. I ended up fixing it by flashing the weekly International ROM from Xiaomi . eu, which is a ROM that cuts out all the Chinese apps and all the bloat. Now I'm back down to 0.5% battery/hour idle drain. Another way would be to factory reset and try install your apps one at a time while monitoring your usage. I highly recommend BetterBatteryStats to help track exactly what processes were active in your phone, and any excessive wakelocks that might be eating into your battery. Lemme know how it goes, and I'll try help out if I have the time.

You can root your phone and freeze all the apps that useless to you. This is what I did and battery usage works great.

I am downloading the Official Stable ROM fro Mi as I type this and have also already downloaded the International Unofficial ROM from Xiaomi .eu.
I am going to try the Official one first then re-load in all my G Apps. I am a bit worried about installing the International ROM as I would need to install TWRP and root the phone etc..
I worry I may brick it in the process. I have given my previous phone away and do not have a backup.
If you know of anywhere with good step by step instructions on installing the International ROM could you point me to them?

You can install the developer rom from en.miui.com , it already has root. It's in the security app, under permissions. And with an app like flashify from play store you can install twrp recovery. A twrp image is available on en.miui.com.

Same problem here...

The people who get 6h sot stay on wifi mostly, barely use 3g or lte, some only on 2g. And they probably dont use many apps, have syncs disabled, no mi account, no localisation, undeclocked, undervolted, etc.

Maybe the people with battery drain should look what causes it, e.g. double tap to wake or such things. Through the last years, there also where problems with "scanning always available" (Network Location Provider Wakelock) in WiFi settings, Emergency Broadcasts, Google Sync and Location Services which caused battery drain. Those things would be the first i would check.

Already checked all settings. Its just because of the different use, thats why people get such SoT. Also if using wifi or not and the cell coverage.

and whether they are using Dual Sim or not

I get 5-6 hours SoT in a single day or 4-4.5 in 48 hrs. 4G, I use reddit internet and whatsapp, sync on wi-fi and no undervolting and stuff. smiui rom seems to be pretty good.

I am testing smiui right now. But I hate the notification bug, notifications never arrive in real time, even if I have apps locked in memory, manage apps disabled(or enabled and set apps to custom and work in background) and apps set in autostart. Its annoying,

Yeah CM and Mokee are better for battery life. MIUI to date is not very well optimized altough I think it's very convenient that's why I keep using it.

HORRIBLE battery life after November 16 update.

Hey all
I have a Sprint Galaxy S 6 that I just updated with an update that claimed to be to improve "battery drain".
It is losing 13% in a half hour without using the phone.
I have no apps running.
I go to settings and it seems that Google Play services is always the one that uses most of the battery.
I never got great battery life but this update seemed to make it worse.
Am I missing something big???
Any advise would be appreciated.

Probably your phone won't go into deepsleep. This is caused by wakelocks and alarms. You can fix this by rooting your phone and install powernap or factory resetting your phone & start all over again.

I would rather not root my phone... I did it with my last three phones and was more trouble than it was worth for me. The phone has all of the features that I like and I don't have a need to flash ROMS.
Any other suggestions?

In that case factory reset your phone, this will delete all of your apps and data so also the wakelocks and alarms. From then your phone will go into deepsleep and you won't lose so much juice when you don't use the phone

Hi, I'm also having battery life issues. I've factory formatted from recovery menu, but I still get battery issues. I charge my phone about 3 times a day and I don't have any significant drain according to the battery usage settings.

The same here. I have everything okay according to battery stats. But I lose like 5-8% an hour when screen doesn't work. Don't know what to do.

I basically surf the net and use WhatsApp. By early afternoon, I'm down to 60% battery. I unplug my charger at 6am everyday.

Marshmallow 6.0.1 and battery time

Hi guys. I have a problem with my battery. Since update marshmallow 6.0.1 my phone won't go into deep sleep, cpuspy says that lowest cpu speed is 400mhz and that's it there is no deep sleep. At night my battery drain without any use in about 6 hours 10-15%. I have already disabled Google now, cleaned cache and tried every possible way that I know but problem is still there.
Only one thing that after cache clean it goes into deep sleep once or twice but once I charge my phone deep sleep is gone, and it's kind a frustrating. I have read online that many users encountered that problem, I just wanna know did anyone solve it, or anyone know when Samsung is going to release fix for that.
P.S. oh I forgot my WiFi is also unstable after that update, it's work but not like it's used.

I would like to know too. I'm at crossroads now trying to decide whether to update to MM or not. Feedback please anyone?

i also had the deep sleep problem (not the wifi one), but I flashes the pure stock extralite rom with the arter97 kernel and now everything works fine. i lose about 1-2% over night.

Well, it is an option to flash another kernel and rom, but since my phone is new and under warranty I would like to keep it clear from such things at least for a while.
I was hope that someone find a solution without flashing
