Questions about Replacement Screen - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, is there a tutorial for when you buy the full screen assembly from aliexpress, this one:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bran...or-OnePlus-ONE-free-shipping/32261491537.html
And dont need to do all the heating/separating stuff? Planning on replacing my broken OPO screen tonight but I cannot find a single tutorial that doesn't completely disassemble the phone into its component parts then goes messing around with the hot air gun like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/repair-guide-oneplus-one-disassembly-t2979351
Anybody know what Im talking about? I just want to swap the screens...

With the way the phone is designed, especially how the connectors connect to the motherboard, I'm afraid there isn't an easier way of replacing the screen. But that's not to say replacing the screen yourself is difficult, there are many videos that explain what to do:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRQW666skQQ this is the one I found most useful, and helped me replace my screen.
If you don't feel confident enough to replace it yourself, for the peace of mind it may be worth paying someone else to do it.

Instructions for replacing digitizer?

It didn't take long, but i've cracked my digitizer. My phone fell out of my pocket last night and digitizer cracked. I've purchased a new one online, but don't really know how to replace it when it arrives. Anybody know of a place where I can find directions/instructions on how to disassemble the thunderbolt?
Maybe you can get some help here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022519
The last dude to try this was an electrical engineer and even he destroyed his phone in the process. Read the link above.
From a Cell Phone Technician...
I recommend that you DO NOT try to replace the digitizer on your Thunderbolt as it is currently rated (by me) the most difficult phone to remove the digitizer from without breaking the lcd screen. Getting the phone apart isn't bad, but installing a new digitizer requires removing the LCD from it's chassis and that is no easy task. I can do it but it takes me well over an hour to do and I have very specialized tools that I have created myself to do so. Anyone without experience would never ever be able to do it on their own without breaking the lcd screen which is a part that isn't available yet so you'd be SOL if you did break it. Just my advice...

Phone dropped, screen dead... Options?

Hey guys, the GF left her phone up high and was knocked down and now the screen seems to be dead. Lights up for a moment when turning on then just goes dark. Pretty sure it's operating fine underneath (still need to plug in to computer to check for connectivity), but assuming just the screen needs to be replaced, what are my options?
Is that something I could possibly replace or perhaps send it off to somebody on this forum for repair? How much ($) are we looking to fix? Better to just sell on ebay?
Thanks!
I did a quick search on ebay concerning a new LCD for the Atrix 2 and they seem to cost around 80 bucks... I don't know if that would be a worthy investment since depending on your contract you can maybe get a new one for about that price...
What I can tell you from personal experience is that it is most likely to be a major pain in the ass to replace the screen on your own... I once changed the front frame of my HTC Desire and I basically had to disassemble EVERYTHING including unglue-ing the touchpanel from the frame taking out all sorts of boards and stuff, and I never got rid of the little dust that would get between digitizer and LCD..... (the memories )
But I'd say if you're confident in your technical skills and a new LCD would be worth your money then you might consider going for it...
I don't know but I'd estimate the cost of a professional repair around $150-$200...
One tip just in case: Make sure that no dust gets onto your screen/on the inside of your tuchpanel because once you start "cleaning" it off (with a towel) you'll never get it as clean as it was...

Broken screen. Have you fixed yours?

For anyone who cares it's just the digitizer. Cracked but still functioning. I found LCD/DIGI replacements on ebay for $50. I also found videos on youtube of what to do.
I also saw some horror stories in the video's comments. Everything from broken LCD (they tried DIGI replacement only) to ripped motherboard ribbons to "I did everything right but the phone doesn't work anymore."
If I attempt this, it will be the first time I've replaced hardware on a phone.
Have any of you attempted and successfully replaced the digitizer, lcd screen or both in a bundle?
If so, what were the hardest parts? Anything I need to pay special attention to? Any special tools needed for the job, or will the torx bit and something plastic to pry with be enough? Any other advice?
Money's not so tight that a new phone isn't out of the question, but I like this one and would rather not have to go through all the nonsense of rooting and getting things set up again if I can avoid it.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Make sure you don't loose any screws keep them seperated for easier replacement. Also make sure that everything is back where it is supposed (cables) to be or your phone isn't going to work...then you'll have to repeat the whole thing! Good Luck.

Thanks for posting up.
I watched a couple videos already and one did mention that the screws should be separated because they aren't all interchangeable with each other.
Fortunately, I'm not a complete bafoon when it comes to doing stuff like this. It's just that it's going to be the first time I attempt it on something so delicate. What took one guy 20 minutes in a video will probably take me much longer, as all new ventures do for people.
Any advice regarding glue or ribbons? Or will going at it with a delicate touch be enough?
Whatever people in videos say/do is probably what you should do. So if they do stuff with glue or ribbons then you should do that.

[Q] Broken screen repair help.

I have dropped my phone and the screen kind of went crazy with colors and overdrawing images and slowly became completely unusable. Can the screen be replaced? I found a bunch of video and instructions on how to do it, but was wondering if replacing the screen will fix it or it's a bigger problem with some broken chip or smth like that.
If i can't fix it, any suggestion as to which phone to get as a replacement. I love custom roms and play with them all the time, but I am not uptodate as to which phone are good for this.
Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

screen replacement
it appears that you not only broke the screen but also the LCD behind the screen. It can be replaced, I have done several. you can pick up a screen with LCD digitizer for less than 100.00 on ebay. I also saw several with frames. If you get one with the frame it is very simple to change. Make sure it is with the correct service provider and you can put your boards in the new one without heating yours up removing the old components and installing the new ones. If you have any questions or concerns let me know. I can walk you through it.

Thanks for the reply. I did find some replacements for the LCD as well and the instructions are good. I am now debating whether I should just get a new phone. Any suggestions as to which one could be a good replacement?
just my opinion but I prefer the samsung phones, However there are many great phones out there. When I'm looking for something I new I like to research as much as I can about the product and compare them against each other. When It comes to phones it depends on what you want to be able to do with the phone. Not to mention that as soon as you but the latest phone on the market a new one will come out soon after....

[Q] Cracked my Screen! Looking for replacement

Hey guys my screen has been broken brutally.. My younger brother just threw it away!
So the touch doesnt work now but i guess everything else is fine. The volume and power buttons work fine. But the tough or the capactive buttons dont respond.
From what i have researched since the touch and the lcd are glued both will have to be replaced together. So i researched and found an estimate of 65$ for a new digitizer + LCD. Now the problem is even if i order the tough and lcd i dont know how to fix it. I saw the ifixit teardown but dont really understand much since there are no detailed steps in it.
I am not going to repair it myself, will repair it from a local repairer but i am pretty sure around here people dont even know what this phone is, so i dont wanna risk directly handing over it to them. If anyone of you all could guide me with a step by step procedure it would be a greattt help! Please help me guys want a good solution for this precious phone!
P.S i dont wanna send it to Oneplus since only the shipping would cost me around 100$ and 100$ more for the screen replacement.
and please dont advice about how i should have taken better care! I had applied a nilkin tempered glass protector but since it hit the wall at the sides it dint really help!
I should have had a case! </3 i was on my way to buy one
Step 1: Open The Back cover
Step 2. Remove the screws
Step 3: ...... please guide me about how to proceed with detaching the screen.
i would b glad to share one of my sharable invites with you if you help me with it or a video would be just paradise! :good:
I
Where do you found LCD + digitizer for only 65$??
The less expansive i've found is on ali and it's around 125$...
I'm interested too as i broke my oneplus as you did... Except it wasn't my little brother who thrown it away, it was only me letting it down to the floor...
I think, about the procedure shown in ifixit, it is doable fixing the broken screen... It just seems to ask proper tools ans patience... And a heat gun... (Or hair dryer!!)
Procedure?

ifixit doesnt show any procedure.. m pretty sure you dont need to go through the first 19 steps before you an finally dettach the screen. As far as i know most of the steps mentioned in the middle are not required. So i want someone to assist me with the required steps.
heat gun? i dont think its needed that would be needed if the digitzer and lcd were seprate. Since thats not the case it should be even easier. Oh yes we need the right tools but i guess a local repairer would have them anyway. i would just want the procedure so i could guide him since he wont know about the procedure, about this specific device
I got the 65$ one from ali express too,
go to the site and search for oneplus one digitizer. There are a list of options. Cant post links!

I don't think that you will find someone who can help you. You will need detailed instructions and images, and I don't think anyone has documented a thorough disassembly yet. You can check on YouTube, it's been a while since I've checked myself. I did disassemble one of my OnePlus One's a few weeks ago because the motor was malfunctioning, but instead of trying to fix it I simply returned it for a refund.
I just need to know how is the screen attached

i dont wanna know all the steps. I just wanna know how is the screen attached. I think it should over all be pretty standard for all phones. So should not be much stress for a local repairer. And from what i have read when the digitizer + lcd are glued it is a very easy job to replace them together. I just want to be sure from my side that say the screen needs to be attached the same way that a Galaxy S2 display is attached to the phone. Then i can just ask the repairer if he would have known how to repair a GSII.
I really cant ship it back to OPO its gonna be almost as much expensive as buying a new One!

Did you only buy the digitizer? You should have bought the screen and digitizer that are already fused. It is absurdly difficult to take off only digitizer and broken glass cleanly. Believe me, I've been repairing things all my life and this is one of the hardest things to fix.
