Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an app on android market that flashes your phone for you? How about one that roots it? I'm have no idea if this is even possible, but it would sure be great, since there are a lot of non technical people out there who would really like to try all the new fancy roms around.
thanks
Rafa
There are apps like this, it really depends on what kind of phone you're using. What phone do you have?
Learn to be technical, not ask for handouts..
You think the experienced people here came right into coding an app? Get a how to manual or search google.. There's plenty of tutorials around that could help.. Not saying start a root app, but start with a soundboard our something..
We need more explorers on this site, not beggars.. But good luck in all your future endeavors..

its really easy to do it the legit way.
depending on what phone you have just go to unrevoked and read read read read then read some more i did mine all by myself in a couple hours. the first time around now i am able to root someones phone in less then 20 min. not a big deal once you learn the proper way to do things
teach a man to fish he eats his hole life. (or some **** like that)
Sadly here in Brazil things don't come as cheap as they do for other countries and an unlocked Galaxy S costs about 1000us$, so forgive me if I'm more than a bit iffy about starting to experiment with it.
Getting back to the point, I've read about Universal Androot, but it doesn't support the Galaxy S series.
Find z4 root right here on xda. It'll do it all for you in one click. From there you can get titanium backup and then rom manager. Go to the samsung captivate forum and read all the sticky threads in full. Be thorough and careful and make sure you know what you're doing.
That should take care of you.
Many thanks. Greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I apologize if this is a redundant post but I am becoming increasingly confused as I try and figure out what I'm doing.
I just recently switched from a two year old blackberry to the Inspire 4G. I love the phone and recently had surgery so I am stuck in a chair for a while which is forcing me to find fun things to do with my phone.
I have done some research on rooting the phone but there is just so much information out there and none of it seems to be all that consistant to me. I like the way the phone runs out of the box so I hate to go flashing the ROM and messing with what isn't broken. I would just like someone to clarify what all of this is about so here are my questions...
What is rooting and what are the advantages of it(besides removing bloatware)? What cool things have you done with rooting?
Is there any way to root the phone in order to remove the bloatware and then unroot it easily so my warrenty does not become void?
In other words, I would like to temporaraly root my phone in order to remove the bloatware. Then once this is done I would like it to go back to the way it was before the root with the exception of the bloatware being there.
Is what I want to do possible? Is it easy, and what would be the easiest way to accomplish this? If its not possible what should I do and how should I do it?
I hope this isn't too much, and if I am asking in the wrong place please direct me to the correct place to ask this sort of question. Thanks for all your help in advance!

Belongs in General. Read there. Search Google "advantage of rooting my phone "
Read about the ROMS in this dev forum
Link on my signature for my thread on MIUI ROM if you'd like to learn about it.

I was in your spot a couple weeks ago, but I had come from a jailbroken iphone. All I can say is, there aren't *many* great walkthroughs, so it took me a good day or two of just looking around XDA to finally feel comfortable. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it, but it takes a little research the first time.
That said, I'm very happy I rooted my phone, and this site has pretty much been my only resource.

Hi everyone,
I am really tired of waiting for SD Card support and USB support on my Xoom, so I have decided to take matters into my own hands. First let me say, I love my XOOM, but I am by nature an inpatient person. My wife would say that of course is NOT my only character flaw. LOL! That said, I purchased my XOOM on launch day and have been waiting and waiting for the 4G upgrade and the SD Card slot to become functional. I have now grown tired of the wait and would like to root in order to get the SD Card functional, USB support, overclocking etc. This is my first Android device, although I have since switched my phone from a Windows Mobile device to a Thunderbolt. I have no experience rooting, but I am comfortable with tech and computers, so now I would like to embark down that road. However, I just did the 3.1 update over the weekend and was reading about a way to flash 3.1 on a rooted device without losing your root. This is what I would like to do, but after posting a similar thread in the Motorola Xoom Forums, the suggestion was made that I post these questions here. There was some debate as to whether it was possible to root my device right now since I already did the 3.1 update and the feeling was that I might have to wait until a rotting solution for 3.1 was available. I am not quite sure if this is the cased, so I was hoping for some direction from the experts here.
Can you guys point me in the direction of a link on the net that will explain rooting and how to do it and let me know if I can root my 3.1 Xoom? YouTube video would be ideal for instruction, but I would like to read up on the basics and the nomenclature so I understand the terms that are thrown around pertaining to rooting. I also would like recommendations of what kernal you all recommend and what other apps I will need, such as, Titanium Backup, Clockwork Recovery, etc. in order to achieve these things.
Thanks a Ton! I am very excited to join the rooting community.
Steve
Hey mate, the "ROOTED" community not rooting first off lol. Moving on tho. Check this link out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89lQpJJ7zBw . Rooting a device is typically pretty simple and easy. The fact that u want to learn is ofcourse greatly appreciated on a site like this as those that just want it handed to them dont tend to get far. If u need additional help feel free to pm me. I dont have a xoom but the vid i linked seems pretty straight forward. I have a MT4G
I am self taught on just about all things programming and am looking for a decent/thorough guide on making custom ROMs for my shiny new Nexus S. Any suggestions on books or internet based resources that I could use to start into this?
I would really like to start contributing to the community and all I need is a push in the right direction...i am sure there are many other folks that would like to start as well.
Thanks!
So I've been using iPhone for quite a while and recently got this Vibrant from a family member who didn't need it anymore. I've got to say, I'm really enjoying it.
I always played around theming my iPhone and using the Cydia tweaks and thought I knew what I was doing for the most part. So after getting this phone, I figured I would install some custom roms until I found something I want to stick with.
The thing is, there are tons of them, and since it's a kind of old phone I'd like some advice. Maybe to give me an idea of a few great roms.
I started by reading a lot on the web, and downgrading from Froyo to Eclair. Then I installed the Asgard JVP rom. I like it, but it appears to be abandoned. I live in an area with horrible service so roms with Wifi calling would be nice.
Definitely getting an idea of good current roms would be a nice start!
Thanks in advance, I understand I'm and Android noob, feel free to poke fun at me :-D
Just check the appropriate forum here. There should be one dedicated to your device.
