App to flash/root your phone?

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an app on android market that flashes your phone for you? How about one that roots it? I'm have no idea if this is even possible, but it would sure be great, since there are a lot of non technical people out there who would really like to try all the new fancy roms around.

There are apps like this, it really depends on what kind of phone you're using. What phone do you have?

Learn to be technical, not ask for handouts..
You think the experienced people here came right into coding an app? Get a how to manual or search google.. There's plenty of tutorials around that could help.. Not saying start a root app, but start with a soundboard our something..
We need more explorers on this site, not beggars.. But good luck in all your future endeavors..

its really easy to do it the legit way.
depending on what phone you have just go to unrevoked and read read read read then read some more i did mine all by myself in a couple hours. the first time around now i am able to root someones phone in less then 20 min. not a big deal once you learn the proper way to do things

Sadly here in Brazil things don't come as cheap as they do for other countries and an unlocked Galaxy S costs about 1000us$, so forgive me if I'm more than a bit iffy about starting to experiment with it.
Getting back to the point, I've read about Universal Androot, but it doesn't support the Galaxy S series.

Find z4 root right here on xda. It'll do it all for you in one click. From there you can get titanium backup and then rom manager. Go to the samsung captivate forum and read all the sticky threads in full. Be thorough and careful and make sure you know what you're doing.

Bricked one phone.. Got replacement. Need Help

Okay so I had a G2x and tried rooting it and I think i did something wrong. With all these instructions ramble on about one thing and another hard for me to really understand all the correct steps.
So can I please have someone give me a hand with this? As in a step by step process of everything? This is my second G2X brand new from T-Mobile has the Gingerbread 2.3.3. So if anyone can actually tell me step by step and what files I am going to need so I don't brick this one because 300USD is getting expensive.

yeah I had to pay for a second one. GRRR T-Mo actually checks their phones with sprint if I bricked or something just dip it in water and send it in. They would never check to see if you rooted it. So anyways do I install Clockwork or only do the steps in the video with the nv flasher?
And whats the best rom? I really like the looks of MIUI sorta looks like my wifes iPhone.

i think you screwed yourself on this one... this phone is like virtually unbrickable, nvflash should be able to bring you out of any soft bricks you might run into and ive run into a fair share of them and never had a problem...
i would recommend you sift though the development section and read all of the tutorials and have a very good understanding of what you are doing instead of having someone spoonfeed you everything when you really dont know what you are doing... (im a high school math teacher and cannot stand it when students are just spoonfed information because in the end they really dont understand what they are doing)

Best thing I've ever read. It helps shine a light on why so many people almost daily are asking for help on how to do something when this forum is riddled with tutorials. I personally stopped helping months ago with any questions on how to root or flash or just anything that there are tutorials for. It just gets crazy redundant.

Then why even post in here? Don't be a ****. Even more frustrating than people who can't use a search feature are people too uptight and high-strung to help someone. Yeah, maybe the OP could have found the answer himself. But he's obviously been following a tutorial (likely in this very forum) that's not working for him (hence his replacement phone). The guy just needs two seconds of help from someone. In the amount of time it took me to copy/paste the following links, I could have torn him a new one thirty times over. But I'm not a ****. So, if you absolutely HAVE to post here, at least make it constructive. Incessant *****ing does no good for anyone.
To the OP:
Firstly, you'll need to flash CWM. This is super simple, given you're on a PC. If you're on Mac, things will get tricky (i.e. virtual Linux environment, headaches, etc).
Next, you can find an easy to follow rooting method here. It even has an unroot .zip option given you have to send your phone in again (will save you another $300 ).
And of course, you can PM me if you need any help. If these are the steps you have already followed, here's a YouTube video with some visuals. When I'm stuck on something, that usually helps me a lot.

Uhhhh... i really dont understand how i was being a ****... I simply stated that he should have a holistic understanding of what hes doing before he starts tinkering because the figure it out as you go method can lead to a 300 dollar paper weight. Not to mention I pointed him in the right direction to start....
All I did was give a bit of advice that I felt was in his best interest and then sent him on his way...

They are being difficult. What they realize is that the OP has already stated that he's bricked one device because he cannot follow directions. He obviously does not know what he's doing, and has problems following instructions because, as he put it..they go on and on... In the end even if he successfully roots his phone, he may wind up causing himself problems by having access to system files because it's obvious he doesn't really know what he's doing. Everyone shouldn't root. If you cannot follow the simple instructions to root without "bricking" a device, and you cannot follow simple instructions to bring the device back to an operational state, then perhaps rooting is not for you (OP). It just sounds like he is going to cause himself even more problems.

^^this... root access to phones is not a hand out, it has to be earned, and you earn it by educating yourself about your device and its capabilities and by following simple instructions...

I can't believe no one has said this yet.
Most phones have water sensors, so dipping it in water would just void the warranty. Sorry if you were joking. But as many have said, it's pretty easy to flash the phone back to normal so the TMobile doesn't know it's been hacked. Did you ask here first?

I am thankful for all the responses. Sorry if I caused grief and headache to anyone. I was finally able to get my phone rooted giving the information that someone provided to me on here. I sent him a PM to personally thank him.
By all means I should probably be *****ed at if I don't follow instructions very well. I have always considered myself a visual learner. If I don't have hands on and able to see it done, it really complicates things for me. I guess you can call it a disability.
Anyways I have come from a long line to HTC which I can say is way different in rooting then these phones. I root them to begin with to get rid of all the stupid software T-Mobile places in my phone and to normally switch to CM7 which I have found out is giving me problems which I am currently trying to figure out.
So please negative comments and put downs are always accepted it comes with the questions. But I don't want to sound like an ass or anything when I say this because I mean it in the upmost respect to everyone, but isn't this a forum? A community forum?
Someone once had to show you, all I did was ask for the same help. And this whole GSM network ways of doing things is different from my typical Sprint CDMA network that I am used to. Everything was pretty much the same when it came to that.

Don't feel bad. I bricked mine upgrading to GB, and I'm still not sure what went wrong. I got it fixed for free by sending it into LG.

Do not sweat the whiners. Here is the way I look at it... It is a forum for developers. I can not develop crap, so I try to do my part by being helpful when I can. Everyone here was brand new at one point. Make sure you do your part by reading as much as you can. If you still have questions/issues, send me a PM.

Why does every noob question get followed up with a bunch bullshizz. We were all noobs at one point, I remember when my Huawei ascend scared me. Nothing is worse than bricking your phone and being upset than a bunch of know it all asses being pricks. Is the g2x forum the only one full of d-ckheads? I've never heard so much whining and holier than thou bs. I'm surprised we have any devs, ungrateful bunch of *****es. Wah, nvidia never, wah, everyone else has ics, wah, that noob asked a question, wah, I suck. I love my g2x, it's a typical musclecar, way over powered and finicky as hell. Well first I am glad you were able to fix the phone however I understand knowledgeable people get frustrated because this phone is simple to root. With a phone that has been out this long there is no reason anyone can not find out what to do on there own.
There are so many YouTube videos and forums like this. You are not the second person to too your phone or to brick it so why create a new post looking for help when you can simply Google it. I know your lazy and expect someone else to do your work for you.

The problem is this. Ppl dont know how to research their issue. Also ppl in our generation cant seem to follow directions worth ****. I was the same way. I learned on my g1. Rooted it successful and then bricked my friends. Over the years ive learned alot about computers/phone/cdma flashing. Playing with the big boys. You develop problem solving skills that you can apply outside of this. It truly makes you smarter. So yea. Maybe we are know it all asses.

How to really get started

Okay this may be redundant but let me try. I'm new to this site and new to the whole androids modding.I was thinking of buying the star x26i or the star note i9220 dpad. I'm really not sure where to start once I get phone. If I can't get the direction I think I can figure out the rest or at least search to get info. Any help will be appreciated.

Get started as in what exactly? Are you talking about rooting and custom roms?

I guess rooting would be 1st. I'm trying to get the 1st steps on what I need to do.

I know this is a modding community so the majority of answers are just going to say root root root! But in all honesty, if you are brand new to Android, get used to stock for a bit before you jump into modification. Spend your time reading about your specific device while you play with it and if people are happy with their devices rooted and the process isn't too intensive for you, then give it a shot.

Thanks for all the input. I was trying to be sure if there was a step by step process on what to do.I am fairly new to android phones and want to learn the ins and outs. I'm searching for a new phone now and it seems like the ones I like need something to be done to them before I can use them. So I was trying to be sure of the process before I screwed something up. I like the suggestion of learning the phone 1st which will probably lead me to a name brand phone.I'm currently with boost mobile so my options are limited. Once again thanks for the info.

2. remove bloatware
3. read about custom roms
4. go crazy modding

Enjoy stock for a while, Oh and heres a tip, On the process of rooting, You can easily brick your phone.
Meaning Of Brick - It will no longer boot up; You have to replace it.

I googled "Rooted phone, what next?" and got several helpful sites and threads. Most of which lead back to XDA. Although I had a fairly clear goal in mind; I wanted ICS.

I got the x26i and I rooted it with Bin4ry it worked really well don't forget to install drivers.

This is a note to all the noobs, noob-ish and/or gun-shy members here - from one of your own. (Yeah, okay, so what if I joined 5 years ago?)
The One X is my first Android phone. I got it during "Prohibition" from a Best Buy that evidently didn't get the memo. So I've had it a few months now.
Like you, I had a TON of questions. I asked a few here and there, but mostly just stuck to reading and learning, always fretting about should I do this or should I do that. Luckily, I got around to rooting long before the 2.20 OTA, which allowed me to freeze and uninstall some AT&T bloatware, which, in turn, prevented the OTA from succeeding - thank God!
When the 2.20 era hit with all its lockout blues, I decided to unlock the bootloader on my phone, because that was the only way to ensure I'd have the option to fully customize the phone down the road. It was a race between my indecisiveness and AT&T figuring out a way to make the OTA stick despite the debloat. I felt like I was being pushed into it, cautious, uncertain, sure that my phone is different from all the other One X's out there so it can't possibly be as simple as all these faceless "experts" make it seem. Can it?
And then, once I DID muster the balls to to unlock the bootloader, all my setting were lost - so I had to reconfigure my phone from scratch. Never wanting to do that again, I found myself looking into - oh my God - custom recovery options? Nandroid backups? What the hell was I getting myself into?
Guys look, I'm here to tell you this. Every question I ever had on doing these things has already been asked here and answered a thousand times by some of the most patient, knowledgeable and generous dudes in the biz. Asking them again will only delay your success. Do your homework. Follow instructions. Read them all the way through before beginning so you know what to expect. And then do it!
Doing it that way, never once did I have a problem. Never once did I break my stuff. But also, never once did I plan to blame anyone else if I did. Just read ahead before you begin. It's all here for us to learn and benefit from.
From the time I got this thing to now, I've rooted (thank you kennethpenn), enabled tethering (thank you t0mmy), installed a million apps, uninstalled a million more (thank you Titanium Backup!), tweaked the boot animation (thank you ES File Manager!), got SuperCID to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev (thanks again kennethpenn!), installed TWRP as easily as pie with Goo Manager from the Play Store and TeamWin's instructions, and created a Nandroid backup with a little guidance from an XDA How-To.
So this post is in the Q&A section because it answers the question "Can I really do this?" You absolutely can. Thank the experts for that.
Next up - playing with ROMs.

Thanks, fellas... It came from both genuine appreciation for the assists here, and also frustration with seeing the same questions asked over and over and over and - well, you get it.
I tell you, outright deleting the many repetitive threads and posts would actually make it easier to get the info that self-starters need. You don't need me to tell you how many posts there are asking how to root, unlock, tie shoelaces, boil water, etc. Searching is a lost art - and worse yet, when it IS used, it returns the flurry of competing threads, which will only make it LESS useful over time. It'd be great to see obviously duplicate questions answered with a link to the "definitive" thread, then locked immediately and deleted after a few days.
As if the mods don't already have enough to do.

Would love for you to do a follow up after you get a chance to try some roms. I myself have been on Android for a little over a year. Although it didn't take me long to flash a custom rom, i did stick with sense based roms (mainly android Revolution) for the longest time. Finally made the jump to aokp and never went back (till I got the onex). Now that aokp and cm are viable options again, I'm back on aokp, jellybean and I have no plans on going back anytime soon (well, till the next phone is released and we get to do this all again).

How to root?

Hey everyone. I just got this note pro today from Amazon. I've read about a lot of functionality you can get from rooting your device. The thing is I have no clue how to root a device. I've looked around the internet and to be quite honest I'm still not quite sure how to properly root the device. I was hoping someone could maybe point out or give me step by step instructions on how to root a device. Including making backups and the programs needed. I'm totally a noob in this and quite terrified of destroying a 685.00 dollar device. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take the time out. The reason I'm rooting is because I want to get better battery life and be able to run any app in multiview mode. (Student who wants to go multiview with amazon ebooks and a note taking app)

I'm not sure which Internet your using.... you must not be looking very hard because your answer is in this very forum. In fact , there is a great big thread about it a few lines down. If after reading said thread you still have a question, I suggest asking IN that thread.
Every one here loves to help out, but you gotta put in at least a TINY bit of effort dude.
