Hello,
When listening to music -
Does this phone support the wired headset button on newer earbud/headsets to pause and FF to the next song?
thanks in advance
Kevin
I'm using the headset from my Nexus One and it has the play, forward and back buttons and it works great. I like it because I can plug them in and hit play without ever waking the phone

I didn't know Android phones could work with headsets like that. Is it a particular headset or will an iPod compatible headset that has the track & volume controls work? If it's a particular headset, would you give me the MFR & model?

i'm interested in this as well. i have the pair from my nexus, but much prefer apple ones.
Thanks for the response.
I use these earbuds on my captivate -
JBuds J3M Micro Atomic In-Ear Earphones with Microphone (look on amazon or other places to buy...)
They sound great and allow me to stop/ff songs on my captivate with the PowerAmp music player.
Other music players work a little differently but still support pause/FF songs from the switch on the wire, which is a huge benefit and time saver.
good luck
Kevin
These are the same ones they gave me when I bought my Nexus One... they work really well for me!

Im using my Samsung headphones from my Windows phone I traded,
and I all I am able to use is the headphone button underneath the volume control which allows me to make a call to the last entry when I double click it, and when i hold it, it brings up the voice dialer. I swear the other day, I was able to go to the next and previous songs when i hit the volume controls up or down. But now that doesn't seem to be working. The volume buttons never seemed to work with the phone, so I guess its just depends what headphones you have.
Anyone found an iPhone type in the ear headset with volume and track control for Google Music streaming to work on the One X?
If I use the iPhone headset or any button headset on the One X when I double click the song track does advance, but the One X also redials my last call at the same time.
So looking for a Google Music control headset.
Thanks
I am using a pair of ibeats from a rezound phone and the controls work perfectly and as a plus match my red case.

Look for some made for Android and they will work. The iPhone ones will work but you have to download a program and reassign the controls.
I personally just got a pair of ibeats like above said. It works 100% and matches lol.
Try the marketplace. A lot of Rezound owners will sell their ibeats separately.

When you say the controls work perfect does the volume up and down buttons work for you?
Now that we've got root (the Rogers users anyway,) I plan on doing some work towards this end. I've got some nice Denon earbuds, but they're designed for the iPhone, and thus the volume buttons do nothing. The middle button works fine as play/pause, but as the OP states, double-clicking redials, and a long-press pulls up Cyberon Voice Commander (not sure if this is present in the AT&T model.)
I fixed the long-press thing before by simply disabling Cyberon, however, I'd rather implement proper control over what the headset does.
The bad news is that logcat doesn't actually log the pressing of the buttons, only the results of the buttons being pressed. So, when I press the volume keys, I get no information at all. I don't have much time to work on this now, but hopefully on the weekend I'll find some time to dig into the Android source and find where the remote media buttons are defined.
Excellent this sounds great.
From what i have seen for remote apps on the Play store in the descriptions developers have said that it is an OS limitation. That the OS doesn't detect clicks from the volume buttons. craig0r what you said seems to confirm what I had previously found.
But please look into it and it would be great if you can find a fix. You could definitely make some good money if you made it an app and published it in the Play store
I came across a free app called Jays Headset, I emailed the guy and he got right back to me.
It works great with Google Music and my iPhone headset, though not the actual volume buttons on the headset. Works with any headset it seems.
Did I mention it was FREE

At the very lowest level, the OS must detect the clicks. It will certainly require root , as I'm sure I'll have dig into the linux HID system. It might even require a modified driver, at which point I'll probably give up since I've never made drivers before I don't see this being worth the effort.
I would actually love it if I could use the volume buttons for volume, but my hopes right now are that I can get the volume buttons to emulate the skip/search buttons on android earphones, like the ones HTC used to include. (Speaking of which, wtf is up with no included headphones?? I knew we were gonna get Beats headphones, but come on.)
Oh, and I'd likely provide the app for free. It's not going to be pretty, it will require root, and it's something I feel should be included in the OS anyway, so I don't think it'd be fair to charge for it.
Did anyone try a wired headset with mic and buttons on Nexus 5 or other LG phones?
Can I use these buttons to skip tracks forward and reverse?
It seems they only act as volume control and play/resume on Nexus 5.
I couldn't figure out it's Android, phone or headset problem.

Yes, I did. I have tried double-press too.
check out the jays headset app in the play store, lets you set options for the one button on some android phones
Anyone know how to adjust the volume using apple earbuds?
Android app for controlling your 1 or 3 button headset
Do you also want to control function of your headset buttons? If you want full control and also the possibility to control online music services via your headset (play/pause etc one of the things that HAS been working better on the iPhone because of their way of integrating functions with their app makers) like Spotify, Pandora, Rdio and more you would need the free app from the guys at Degauss Labs.
The app is found on google play by the searchwords "degauss labs"
They just added suppor for Android 6.0 Marshmallow
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shengande.degausslabs
Its brilliant, ad free and no catch. Use it and love it

I tried Headset Button Controller and Jays's and neither managed to change the up and down buttons' settings, only the center one. I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 default 3 button earphones on Nexus 5.
I'm gonna pretend this guy is not a marketer and give this app a shot. tired of going through all these settings
EDIT: Same issue... I can set the button for Next Track and Previous Track but it doesn't react, it just changes the volume as usual.
I got no luck either. It seems system intercepts the buttons first. No matter where I am, the system volume slide pop up when I press the buttons.
I got a hunch it might be LG's design issues. I was thinking it could be my haedset wasn't compatible to LG's phone. So I browsed Amazon looking for a headset specifically stated it worked on LG's phones. It turned out all of them were one button headsets. This result made me wondered somehow LG doesn't support 3 buttons headset control intentionally.
No Luck Either

Hi
I never said the up and down button was programmable on the Nexus 5. These are hard coded by LG and will not do anything but +/- volume. It i snot the app´s fault but LG´s idea of making "Life Good" Only the center button is programmable on the Nexus 5.
But if you try the same app with the Nexus 3 by Samsung you will see the app makes all buttons programmable. As Samsung left the buttons possible to program.
But if you find this a drag, just think if you had the Nexus 4 from LG where there is only a one button support.
Bye
This thread really helped me out. I've been using Samsung phones up till a month ago when i bought my nexus. The first thing i noticed when i tried listening to music via poweramp and google play music was that the double and triple click to change tracks did not really work as well as they did on my S2. However, the deguass app really works well. Thank you.

does this mean that nexus 5 has no built in support for buttons from the headset?
Hi, please check this app, it can skip track using volume buttons single or double clicks.

1 or 3 buttons
Yes, some phones only have support for one button headsets example Motorola Droid Maxx. But most have 3-button support today.
ALL LG´s (2015+2016) support 3-button headsets, ALL Samsungs support 3-button headsets as well, ALL Nexus phones after Nexus 4 supports 3-buttons, ALL Xperia Sonys.. you just need a real Android headset. As a user of the Degauss Headset Control Center which I think is faboulus in function and totally free app, I suggest to support the guys who made that at Degauss Labs. They have a truckload of Android eadsets that might fit your thinking, you´ll find them on www.degausslabs.com I myself use the Noir´s which are superb.
In my previous comment youll find the Headset App now also supporting Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Nexus 5x, Nexus 6P and many others are coming... Youll need that App to tailor the button clicks and set them to actiavte your musicplayer and "control" it.
Cheerio!
So, I have tried 6 types of headphones, and 3 work normally.
On the other 3 that don't work, when I press play on Play music it plays for a sec through the speaker, then stops, then plays for a sec, then stops, and does that until it finally stops.
Does anybody have a similar problem or do you have any solutions?
Thanks!

See when it stops, does the google voice search appear on screen ?
as if it has detected noise from the headphones as a voice.

It doesn't show up, and the phone doesn't stop, the music plays for a second, then it stops, then it plays again for a sec, and it stops. It does that a few times until it stops and I have to press play again.
EDIT: I have to say that headphones that don't work all had microphones, and the ones that worked didn't have them, so maybe you are on to something.
I will try to disable google voice search somehow, maybe it will work.
Is the Headphone fixed in the moto g or is it wabbeling?
I have an AUX-cable with a stop/play button on one connector it doesn't work. But when I turn the cable and use the other connector it works.
I had an issue were Google search would show due to noise from the earphones even when nothing was playing, fixed it by using an app called wizdroid
Not sure if it will fix your issue but wouldn't hurt to try

Hey guys,
I have encountered a similar problem where my headphones indeed seem to trigger google voice search, or pauze the playing music. However, i have not found it to be related to any specific headphones. At first I thought that maybe a bad ground contact on the plug was being registered as a command from headphones with controls, however:
Non of the headphones i have used have controls, they are all regular headphones with TRS (three ring) connectors.
The headphone plug on my Moto G seems plenty solid.
According to the official Moto G forum, the Moto G doesn't even support headphones with contols. (see https://forums.motorola.com/posts/44afe72921)
@lakyboss: maybe that last point is why the headphones with microphones are not working for you.
Kind regards,
Dracorius
So, bottom line is that Moto G doesn't support these types of headphonees? Excellent

Read carefully.
It says that 3 button controls are not supported. This mostly refers to headsets designed for iPhones that have the control button as well as Vol Up and Vol Down buttons.
This isn't just the case for the Moto G. The Samsung S3 for example would only work with *Samsung* 3 button headsets but wouldn't work with Sennheiser or most other third party 3 button headphones.
The main/control button for third party headsets works for the Moto G, I've tried Brainwavz, Soundmagic and Sennheiser headphones with mic and button and all work fine for controlling music and answering calls.
Setting up the button controls via PowerAmp (or the player of choice), Headset Button Control* or similar apps might be needed depending on your settings.
(*Trial here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kober.headset)
I have Skullcandy Ink'd 2 which have one button for answering calls/playing music/activating voice search (long press).
They worked on my Nexus S, One X, my laptop, but whatever I play on Moto G, it doesn't work. I've tried Google Play Music, YouTube, few other music players, even tried flashing a new rom, it still doesn't work.

Hello everyone!
I developed a new application that I would like to share with you.
I've been looking for an app to skip the music tracks when I click a single or double click on the volume buttons.
I found some apps, but they were not working correctly in Marshmallow on my Nexus 5, so I created this little app.
It doesn't need ROOT.
And the best thing, it is a service-less app i.e will NOT run on a background service and consume RAM!
Other useful features are:
Incoming calls will vibrate only when in your pocket or bag.
Incoming SMS will vibrate only when in your pocket or bag.
Disable the Bluetooth headset redial button, useful when you put the headset in you pocket.
Skipping tracks with volume keys.
I only tested the app on my Nexus 5 on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, so I consider this a beta release.
You are welcomed to post your feedback!
Update: This is the app link in the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartvibration
Awesome. Works a treat. Just needs a nice icon

why does it need access to "reroute outgoing calls" and "read/write call log"...? and "recieve text messages" - isnt that a bit sus?

Yes it needs the "reroute outgoing calls" to detect there is a call and insert an empty call log record (thus read/write call log) after it finishes to disable the Bluetooth redial button.
"receive text messages" is an experimental feature to vibrate in pocket only when a SMS is received, it is still not working, so you can just not enable it.
cheers - works great on Music Folder app I use for Folder View (which is hard to find on most players) I have a lot if ID-Tags I just can not fix , even when I use MP3TAG - anyway, works great....cheers
Hi.
Doesn't seem to like headphone socket being used on my 2014 Moto G on Lollipop. Only back works immediately. Fwd seems to queue until the plug is removed then it all happens in a rush.
Otherwise excellent. Simple and unobtrusive.

OK just make sure that the volume in not to the max, otherwise this would happen, the volume should be at least one step less before the max for the single click to work and 2 steps less for the double click to work.
Thanks

Well it does not seem to register the buttons..
skipping tracks works when the phone is connected to a bluetooth device, but it doesn't work when playing music through chromecast. Any fix ?
Works great on my xperia z3 c. But I would prefer if tracks were skipped by holding the volume buttons. Are you able to set it in some app update?
This is genius. I stumbled upon this app in some random xda forum. I've tried every possible other app and Tasker functions for my Nexus 5x on stock Oreo with Magisk root. Since xposed doesn't work on nougat or Oreo, I had almost given up. But this app works perfectly!
