(UNLOCKED BL) ROOT Sony Xperia M2 on Android 5.1.1 [FULL-ROOT] - Sony Xperia M2

Hello guys!
Today I'm bringing you a tutorial on how to achieve root permissions on the Xperia M2 with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. As of right now, this is only available for UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS, so those with LBL have to wait a little more until I find a suitable solution.
What do we need?
Upgrade your bootloader using this guide.
My ADB pack.
My modded TWRP for unlocked bootloaders.
Ric Disabler by my friend @AleksJ [MIRROR]
The procedure:
First, flash Lollipop if you didn't flash it before. Once done, upgrade your bootloader using Emma or the FTF I linked before.
WARNING: If you updated your bootloader BEFORE FLASHING LOLLIPOP, you MUST upgrade it again since Lollipop FTF overwrites it.
Now, turn on the phone, go to Settings, Info. about the device, and tap 7~8 times the Compilation Number. This will un-hide the developer options. Press back button once and go inside the Dev. Options. Now turn them on if they were off, and enable USB Debbuging. Now turn off your phone.
Now, unzip my ADB Pack 'Herramientas-de-flasheo.zip', which contains basic ADB and Fastboot executables to a folder in your desktop. Also, copy the TWRP Recovery .img you downloaded to that folder.
Put your phone in Fastboot mode, this means, while pressing and holding the Vol+ button, connect the USB cable. Once the Led goes blue, stop pressing it.
Now, execute the following keyboard shortcut (Win+R) and type inside the Run prompt CMD. Inside the Command Prompt, using CD (change directory), navigate to the folder you created in the desktop. It'll be something like...
Code:
cd C:\Users\linuxct\Desktop\adbpack\
Now, execute the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery [COLOR="DarkOrchid"]RECOVERY-TWRP-2.8.7.0-D230X_D240X-UPDATED-THEME[/COLOR].img
Once it finishes, disconnect the USB cable. Now, to enter into the recovery, press and hold the volume down button, and while you're holding it, press and hold the Power button until it vibrates. When you see the BIG Sony logo, stop holding the Vol- Button.
This will load Erikcas TWRP. After few seconds, it'll ask you to allow /system modifications, so slide it to allow modifications. Now navigate to Reboot, and choose System. In a moment or so it'll ask you if you want to root your device. To do that, slide again.
The device will reboot in a few seconds. When it's succesfully booted up, go to the App Drawer and look for 'SuperSU Installer'. Open it and hit the 'Play' button. This will open SuperSU in Google Play. Now update SuperSU.
When it's done updating [Don't open SuperSU yet!], unzip the Ric Disabler from AleksJ in your PC, and open the Install.bat OR Use the following Bash Script if you're on Linux, thanks to @luichi. Once it's opened, connect again your device via USB. In the M2, the script will prompt a question about USB Debbuging key. Tick the 'Remember this PC' checkbox and hit Allow. After some secs, it'll ask you for root permissions, so hit Allow.
In a while, when in CMD it says 'Press any key to continue', disconnect your cable and open SuperSU in your device. Now it'll ask you about updating su binary. Hit Update, and then hit on 'Normal' method.
And that's it! Enjoy your Lollipoped device with Root!
Don't forget to hit the thanks button and thank all people mentioned in this post too!

Thanks for this tutorial! All working

It's generic, don't worry, you can use it in any D230X and any D240X you want.

Aqua too! Any M2 in general can use it :good:

via emma ? can you show how upgrade bootloaders via emma ?

WoW, nice work. Have a fully working recovery AND root now.
If you want something "simpler", you can flash a boot.img with integrated recovery instead of using the first method.

But then you'll need to go back to 5.1.1 kernel in order to boot the device, loosing the recovery. This recovery is permanent as it's isolated in it's own partition.

Guys, you need to install the experimental Xposed for Lollipop 5.1.1! The 4.x installer is not working anymore!
BUT, take this into account:
- Sony seems to have shipped some ROMs with corrupted services.odex (the embedded .dex is invalid). Those ROMs will bootloop with a "Fatal signal 6" or "No pending exception expected: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException" error, which I unfortunately cannot fix.

@linuxct
I dunno if I flashed back or not, but if i didn't then I think FKernal works with 5.1.1
Don't really want to test it either

Guys dont even try xposed...Bootloop because of corrupted services.odex

Too late... -.-

after Flashtool by sony
after taht, what the next step ?

After flashing the bootloader update, turn the phone on, enable USB Debugging and then turn it off; and go ahead to flash erikcas twrp. (2nd and 3rd points)...

after step 8 i reboot like normally but touch wont work, but the touch in RecoveryMode work well..

[UBL][NOOB-Friendly] Xperia M2 Bootloader Update FTFs (New update available)

Hey guys!
Since there was no thread about it yet, and since Sony released recently a new bootloader update for the Xperia M2, I decided to open a new one, and explain a little more how it works.
The bootloader update is used, in the Xperia M2, to unlock the R/W features in the recovery partition. This means that, if you've an UBL device, and you flash the update, you'll get permissions to install a new UBL recovery inside the partition itself. So, you won't need to include an external ramdisk inside your boot image.
How can I obtain it?
You've currently 2 ways:
1. Download and install Emma and apply the update from there, which will be always the latest available.
2. Download it through an FTF (explained below).
How can I install it if I choose FTF way?
First, download the latest FTF from below. Once downloaded, place it in flashtool's firmware folder, which is located in C:\Users\<your-name>\.flashTool\firmwares\.
Now, launch Flashtools (it needs to be version 0.9.18.6 or below, mandatorily), choose the FTF update (you'll easily notice which one it is), and simply hit flash.
Once prompted, connect your device while off to the Micro-B end of the USB cable, and, while you press & hold the Vol- key, connect the USB-A end to the PC. Then flash will start.
How can I install a custom recovery?
Download my ADB Pack 'Herramientas-de-flasheo.zip'.
Now, unzip my ADB Pack 'Herramientas-de-flasheo.zip', which contains basic ADB and Fastboot executables to a folder in your desktop. Also, copy the file Recovery file you downloaded to that folder.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <[COLOR="Purple"]NAME-OF-THE-RECOVERY[/COLOR]>.img
How can I access the recovery?
To enter into the recovery, press and hold the volume down button, and while you're holding it, press and hold the Power button until it vibrates. When you see the Sony logo, stop holding the Vol- Button.

I've just tried it out with Flashtools 0.9.18.6, and it's working, however on Flashtools 0.9.20.0 and above it's not showing up, since it compares the device model written in the FTF with a database, and since the entry I made was customized, it's not showing up.
What I'm going to do is to check if there's any update in Emma, if so, I'll update the file with new bootloader update.

hi, I have stock kitkat so can i still update my bootloader using flashtool, i have root and unlocked bootlloader
Emma won't open for me, it shows the splash screen and then nothing comes up, the process is there running, but the program won't show up.
And via FTF the flashtool 0.9.18.6 gives an error and won't flash the FTF in my device.
I have a D2306, running the FW 18.3.C.0.37

Flashtool and Emma gives a hard time (Jul 2016)
Hi,
Same as gabrielmr... Emma installed, seems to update and restart, and then disappear in the background. Ok, then I'll use flashtool. Oh wait, there is a new version, before all, I'll update it and then flash the ftf. So I updated to latest version and... no way to see that firmware. If I had read the tread closely, I would have seen that flashing with Flashtool Version 0.9.19.8 would have taken 2 seconds, instead of trying my best to use the last flashtool version, which doesn't show the downloaded firmware XPERIAM2_1.716_BOOTLOADER_UPDATE_(ONLY_OPEN_DEVICES).ftf.
Just saying for noobs following the procedure.:cyclops:

Confused
Hello,
I am confused on this part of the steps:
6. Press 2 Download
7. Once pressed connect the terminal to the pc "OFF"
I press download, on the step 7. does that mean connect the USB cable from the PC to the phone? What does it mean by "OFF"?
After I press Download and have the USB cable plugged into the phone with the phone on and unlocked nothing happens Please help!
(USB Debugging enabled, device is listed in adb devices, and I can access storage and SD card)
Install any drivers, okay?
Select only the recovery in flashtools. Tighten download. Then connect the phone off the usb. The flash will install the recovery. Then see if the recovery has been successfully installed. And install the root by recovery.
Drivers installed ok. I selected only recovery in flashtools, and clicked download, and then plugged in USB.
Should I use USB debugging?
Should I use "USB Storage" or "Media device (MTP)" or "Camera (PTP)"?
Thank you!

Got it!
I figured it out
Here's the steps I did:
1. Install ADB from here rubenalamina.mx/download/525/
2. Install drivers provided in the original post here.
3. Reboot PC.
4. Open command prompt with administrator privileges, and type: cd c:\adb
5. Then type: adb devices
6. Open flashtool provided in the original post here.
7. Select scatter file as described in the post here, and clicked download.
8. While flash tool is running the "download", plug in phone with USB cable and restart the phone and it will work, with an OK window at the end like described in the original post here.
9. Unplug the USB cable, reboot phone and hold volume up key as described in original post.
10. Install SuperSU as described in the original post here.
DONE!
Anyone try this successfully?
Thanks for the guide.
It worked for me smoothly, many thanks!

Actually you don't see a difference except that root apps ask for permission (SuperSU pops up)
Btw: I just installed supersu via recovery, not busybox as described sometimes.
Sucessfully did it just yesterday.
Bluboo Xtouch doesn`t turn on after trying root
Hi,
After I've tried to root nothing happened on the flashing tool, so I've tried pressing volume up + power button and my pc just did a sound of plugin a cable and nothing happened in my phone, so I've tried to turn my phone on and it didn't work. I've tried pressing a lot of combinations trying to turn it on with no success. Can someone help me? I don't know what to do anymore since my battery is no removable.
Don't work
I try to flash TWRP and to root but after pressing download button and connect phone, nothing happen.
(adb drivers are OK).
Edit : Procedure available with last rom (Jan 12th 2016) ?
Some help ?
/system/xbin/su how to remove this
Hi
I'm trying to install a enterprise app but during the install I got a "policy violation", because my device is considered rooted, since under /system/xbin there is a "su" file.
I already did a upgrade to last version from (room) Jan 12th 2016, but the /system/xbin/su persists... I think this is because it is a maufacturer built room from Bluboo but the true is I'm unbale to install the enterprise app. I already try to delete / rename/ move the su file, but I don't have permissions...
I don't want to root the device.... maybe install an official "android 5.1" but I'm afraid to do it, and I don't know how to do it...
so anybody have a suggestion how to fix this issue ?
Many thanks

[C2304] Installing TWRP or CWM recovery in the Xperia C

Well, I just purchased this device and came here after that to look at what we had and I'm disgusted.
And there are several reasons for that, being:
1 - Locked Bootloader...
2 - This forum seems somewhat abandoned, which leads it to be somewhat disorganized.
EdiT:
Thanks to our friend repey6 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5704037
TWRP 2.8.7.0 is now included, and it works just ok, with all functionality.
I strongly recommend you to use it instead of any other recovery. Just make sure to backup your ROM again after installing it, as CWM or Carliv backups won't work in TWRP.
I replaced the old TWRP included in the attachments with the new one provided by repey6, but the installation process remains the same.
Plus, this was not created by me and it's mad old (2014). But still it works better than the Carliv Recovery we have available here...
So Let's go. The proccess is the same for both, just choose the recovery image you want in the end of the topic.
(almost forgot to say that if your phone bricks it's you responsibility, I tested it in mine and it is working fine)
STEPS:
STEP1- Root your phone (if it's not rooted yet).
To root your phone you'll need to:
a-Download the framaroot APK provided in the attachments
b-Install it then click in the Boromir option and the su binary will be installed.
c-Download SuperSU from google play store.
That's all, simple like that.
STEP2- Check your bootloader's S1 Version
a-Open your dialer and input *#*#7378423#*#* , then go to Service Info>Software Info> S1 Boot Version.
b- Check if yours is 2.14.J.2.6 or 2.14.J.2.13 or 2.14.J.2.16 . If yours is one of these go ahead, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
If yours is 2.14.J.0.68 do not proceed, as it will 100% brick your phone.
c- My phone has S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.1.15 and in spite of the developer having not mentioned anything about it, I risked it all and my phone flashed the recovery normally, so if your version is also 2.14.J.1.15, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
STEP3 - Install the recovery
NOW, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL HERE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE:
a-Download the mobileuncle.apk file provided in the attachments and install it.
b-Download the twrp_xperia_C.img file provided below and put it in your internal memory (not on the external). Rename it to recovery.img, otherwise mobile uncle won't see it.
Now, here's the part you have to mind, so you won't brick your phone.
Mobile uncle can install a recovery using one of two methods. One is by installing the image from your internal memory (which we'll be doing). Other is installing it from the internet.
Now, YOU DON'T WANT to install a recovery from the internet, as mobile uncle doesn't provide any image for your device. So if you flash any of these recoveries, you'll never be able to make your phone boot again.
See in the image below and you'll get what I mean:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
c - So, before proceeding TURN OFF YOUR WIFI AND DATA CONNECTIONS so that mobile uncle won't show any recovery from internet
d-Open mobile uncle.
e-Grant Super User
f-Press "Recovery Update"
g- With wifi turned off, you'll see only your recovery in the screen
h- Click it, the file size of the file I'm posting must be around 6MB ( 6210KB for CWM), if it's different cancel and download file again.
i- press ok and restart.
DONE
:good:
EDIT:
I just noticed that after flashing the recovery you might get your phone stuck in the SONY logo after it.
In fact it happened to me, but just once.
If that happens don't panick. Recove the cover of your phone and besides the SIM-2 slot you'll see a tiny role with the word "reset". Insert a needle in there and your phone will restart normally.

It should work in both, I'm using a recovery for C2305 in my C2304.
Just don't try flashing a C2305 ROM on your C2304. It will not hardbrick your phonw, but the SIM cards will not work and you will get a mad functioning phones.
Some custom ROM's based on stock firmware work in both though.

Sorry for the late reply! Haven't been able to test this until recently due to an issue getting my PC to work properly with my phone. Anyway, I would like to confirm that I was able to flash this on my Xperia C2305 that had S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.0.68. The photo below is proof of CWM running on my Xperia C2305:
Things you will need:
WMShua SuperFlash: http://soft.flushrom.com/WMShuaSetup.exe (after installing, you can change the language to English by renaming Program Files/wmshua/language to Program Files/wmshua/language_x)
Xperia C 16.0.B.2.16 FTF: C2305_16.0.B.2.16_TacoNikky.ftf or C2305_16.0.B.2.16_Congngheviet.ftf (pick one; I used TacoNikky's version)
Procedure:
1. Open WMShua, then click on Flash (not Super Flash). Browse to the FTF file you downloaded. You can choose to backup system before flash (I unchecked it on mine). Follow the screenshot below for guidance:
2. Turn off your phone. Next, hold down the Vol- (volume down) button on your phone. While holding down, plug in the micro USB cable. The LED will flash red. When it changes to green, release the Vol- button. WMShua should automatically try to install the needed drivers. After installing drivers, it will begin the flashing process. If your phone turns on instead, simply unplug it from the USB, turn it off, then try again.
The flash process may take a long time (it took 30+ minutes for me), and sometimes it may look like it hanged, but it's actually working. Just be patient. Once it reaches 100%, your phone will automatically boot up. Check your S1 Boot Version—it should now be 2.14.J.2.16. You may find that you've lost root, so you will need to root it again (I use KingoRoot). After rooting, follow the instructions on the first post to install CWM or TWRP. Good luck!

sorry mods if this is bypassing the spam guards.
i cant get OTA UPDATES after unlock the bootloader LOL
They do warn you specifically that pushed updates will no longer happen.
I think the solution is to find the updates from ASUS and use an app like FlashFire
There is a request for a Rom on the cyanogen forums.
Xposed worked like a charm.
It also appears that the kernel source is available although I'm not sure from where.
Still not sure where to find the ASUS updates
Thank you very much it works perfect, but how do you flash the recovery.img and boot.img to un-root?
TWRP Decrypted and Couldnt Mount Storage
Thanks for the guide, its 100% worked!
But I have a problem. I couldnt mount storage to instal ZIP file. Also my TWRP said its encrypted, and i dont what password to decrypt is.
Anybody know how to solve this?
Is there any CN stock recovery to download?

Tutorials and the tools are not my work, so I don't take any credit. However, the tutorial is come from China. I combine my experience and translate them as much as I can to english.
Instructions:
First, download the root files (at the bottom of this post) accroding to your tablet model (at the back of your tablet) and install the driver in the computer.
Please install in the following order:
1) iSocUSB-Driver-Setup-1.2.0.exe
2) IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.5.0.exe
3) PhoneFlashTool_5.3.4.0_win32.exe
Pay attention to the following points
a) you must install those driver in the above order
b) Don't change the install location of those driver
c) Close your antivirus software to avoid unknow problem
Then, go to Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging. Enable OEM Unlock and enable USB Debugging Mode
Now, connect your X80 Plus to the computer,
Open a Command Prompt window in "Root X80 Plus H6C3" folder (To open a Command Prompt window in any folder, hold down the shift key and right-click on the folder) and enter the following command
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Press Enter
Wait for the device to enter fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Press Enter to unlock the oem and enter the following command
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Press enter to flash the kernal, then enter the following command
Code:
fastboot reboot
This command will restart your tablet.
It is normal that tablet reboot 3 to 4 times automatically, just wait for it. (turn on the tablet yourself if the tablet do not reboot automatically)
After your device is on, check that Wifi and bluetooth works or not. (Wifi and Bluetooth may not works with the replaced kernal, just perform a factory reset)
If everything is ok, enter the following command
Code:
root.bat
Wait for the Command Prompt until it stuck at this command, "adb shell su --daemon"
Now, disconnect the tablet and reboot it manuly
After the device was booted up, Supersu already become a part of system app.
Open Supersu now, it will notify that the SU binary needs to be updated. You must need to install the binary once, but you will fail at 100%(unless there is a miracle, and your tablet is root successfully, congratulations)
Close Supersu and reconnect the tablet, enter the following command again.
Code:
root.bat
Now the command prompt should run all of the command smoothly and Supersu should have no message about the SU binary update !!
Therefore, if your Supersu shows nothing (works properly), your tablet is rooted, thats amazing.
If Supersu keep notifing, please enter the following command again and wait for it to boot up automatically until Supersu have no message about the binary update.
Code:
root.bat
Note that this root method are not stable yet
Known issues:
1) Old version of Titanium Backup was unable to execute the SU command
2) LBE are not 100% compatible with this root
Post reply if you have any requires or problem.
Stock Rom for X80 Plus just in case you need them, and the instruction will be translated later

It's updated from play market with no problem.
May be it is my particular problem ( kernel 3.14.37 firmware assembly ver 3.03.20161109) but.....
WARNING TO H6C4 OWNERS! SD Card becomes unusable with this rooting files. Any SD Card after rooting recognized as 0,9 Mb size and you can't access files on it. You can't use SD Card reader too.
Please report if you do not encounter this issue.
Hi.
I'm stuck on "adb push SUfiles/Superuser.apk /data/superuser" command in root.bat
I've done all the previous steps without problems.
Before executing root.bat I have set again Usb Debug and OEM Unlock, is it correct?
Sometimes I get stuck on "adb remount"
What can I check?
Thanks
Woody
