I am trying to rescue data on the internal storage on a softbricked MOTO E gen running Lollipop. Phone wont boot past M logo but I can get into recovery mode.
I do not have the bootloader unlocked and I do not have USB debugging on. I have tried connecting via ADB but not joy on PC and MAC.
Can I update / repair / change the Lollipop OS via the "apply update from sdcard" option in the recovery menu?

Hi, and welcome to XDA!
Depending on the stock ROM, you should be able to flash it via recovery (apply update from sdcard), or more likely, from fastboot.
At any rate, please register for an account, so you can post in other forums. From there, add a post explaining your predicament here:

Sounds like a hard brick.
If neither recovery mode nor flash/download mode works, you can't do much yourself.
Check this thread about CWM on a similar device: [ROOT] [GUIDE] [CWM] For Evercoss A7A MTK 6572 100% Working Root Guide.
Maybe you find a way to get your tablet recognized on a PC so that you can flash back a working recovery/firmware.
If you are registered xda, you can also post in the Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
Good luck !

im pretty much doomed
i use a motorola moto g 2nd gen 2014 version
recovery TWRP-2.7.1.1
till now i was using the titan prime rom for xt1068 - lollipop
yesterday i tried to flash the cyanogenmod 12.1 nightly titan
i have flashed 3-4 roms before and am not new to the process, i've been using a rooted device for almost an year
yesterday i copied the rom to my external sd card , took backups using titanium backup, did the standard wiping procedures and proceeded to flash the rom. when i tried to flash the rom
it gave me an error E:/ error executing updater binary in zip ' /sdcard1/cyanogenmod12.1 nightly.zip'
at first i thought there was a problem with my rom, so i took out my external sd , put my titan prime rom's zip on it and then did the standard wiping procedures again and tried to flash it
only to get the same error again
now i dont have any os on my device.
when i try to mount the storage on my laptop using the twrp / mount usb storage my laptop doesn't read the device at all.
it doesnt read the device when it is connected through usb cable and the recovery mode is on
however it does read it till it is in the bootloader state as - fastboot titan
as soon as i turn on the recovery it doesnt read
at first i thought it's because i had the rom on my external sd so i searched the internet on how to copy the rom to my internal memory that is 16GB
i got many methods using adb so i installed adb copied it ito c:/adb. then i tried using the adb commands to copy the files
in this tutorial the device is detected while in the recovery mode but mine doesnt get detected. i have installed the proper drivers , motorola device manager etc but nothing seems to work. i need help ASAP

I'm using Xperia SP from 3 years. Recently, I was about to flash CM12.1 Lollipop ROM.
I did these things seqentially as below -
1. I rooted the phone via Towelroot app.
2. Backup DRM keys with Bakup_TA_Master.
3. Then, Unlocked the Bootloader via Fastboot cmd. (link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721 )
4. After that I flashed CWM v6.0.3.5 & created full Backup.
5. Wiped Chahe, Dalvik Chahe, Data & System.
6. Tried to Flash CM 12.1 ROM (downladed from LINK: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_sony_huashan )
BUT soon after a few minutes of installalation my device showed an error message and it shut down and doesn't started.
It don't shows bootloader, no SONY logo, not reboots to CWM Recovery. It is almost dead, But.....
The only two things it allows me to do is boot to Fastboot Mode & Flashboot Mode when connecting to PC via usb cable.
I dont know what to do now..........
Hi,
Zip from Github have not to be flashed from a recovery.

Hi
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
There's no dedicated forum for your device here in XDA. Try posting your query in > General discussion > General > BLU STUDIO 6.0 LTE (Y650Q) - Everything about Root/Recovery/Mods/Tips. Experts there may be able to help you.
Don't post in all bold when you get there.
Good luck

Hi there and welcome to Assist,
If you are able to boot into the fastboot, try restoring your stock firmware.
