[Completed] Bad kernal tweak allocatted to much mem to apps...Helllp!!! ...pretty please. - XDA Assist

...now when ever I try to start my a launcher (default 2D launcher) or almost every app on my phone they load for a sec then crash...I can still use UC mini browser & google play works still IF I uninstall all of it's updates & just use phones factory stock play store, I can still boot into recovery & all that through my laptop as well...question is how, if at all possible, can I reset my kernal to it's default settings?
What happened was I was customizing my old:
"Huawei U8687 Android 4.0.4 Kernal v. 3.0.21-perf-g07d599d-g42077fa
Build #: U8687V100R001C113B968"
when I downloaded an app I've used many times before called Pimp My Rom, overclocked my cpu, etc everything fine like the hundreds of phones I've customized before...but then after being up all night all caffeine addled, impatient & yes greedily racing to finish up some last minute tweaks & finishing touches so instead of incrementally increasing the min amount of ram allocated to applications as they are starting up in order to mitigate system lag stupid me decided to double the amount right off the bat...leading to my current delema...any ideas/ aid in my endeavor to fix this would be greatly appreciated...theres a first time for everything I guess.
If more information is needed please ask away.

Hi,
If you had a done a nandroid back up then try to restore that back. If not see if there is an option to revert back to stock configuration.
For further questions, you can ask here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help

What's the best Android ROM for Polaris?

I am sorry if a thread like this exists but I didn't managed to find it.
I tried different Roms but I can't remember from all which is the fastest.
I am mainly using my Polaris for:
- phone calls
- wifi browsing: Opera Mini/Skyfire
I want the fastest Android Rom that will suit my needs. From your experience what ROM would you recommend me ?
Thanks.
Try to use froyo 2.2 RLS 12, right now i use it on my phone, it is fast naught to do all the usual things without wait. I overclocked my CPU to work at 540MHz (this says Rogue Tools) but it is working at 520MHz really. The market it is working fine, bluetooth also, wifi can be solved to obtain ip, everything is ok. If you wanna more details, PM and i will try to guide you in romanian

how can I flash froyo 2.2 RLS 12 to my Polaris?wifi is ok?
1. READ POST1 HERE - FOR THE INSTALL PROCESS INSTRUCTIONS and download the install-seq.sh .
2. READ POST1 HERE - DOWNLOAD THE Latest FroYo NBH or ZImage (POLAIMG.NBH) for your panel type, and the RLS12 All Languages Themed (androidinstall.tar).
3. READ POST1 HERE - FOR THE NBH Editor v3.5.2 YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AND USE THIS PROGRAM TO CHANGE THE PANEL TYPE FROM 1 TO 3 OR FROM 3 TO 1.
After you read all the 3 posts from the 3 thread and you download all the files you need you can proceed with the install using the steps described in the point 1.
For solve the WiFi obtain IP adress, after you install successfully the Android on your Polaris, restart it and press the volume button up when booting Android, you will see a menu with some options, select FIX PERMISSIONS menu and wait... after the fix WiFi will work just fine and it will obtain the IP from the network.
Hope this post will help you.
Indeed, I am using since yesterday RLS12. It is pretty ok, some freezes here and there but nothing really important. Sometimes in Market the phone restarts. I thought about overclocking the CPU but I was affraid not to broke it. Is it safe? Is there a performance improvement ? What about battery drain ?
In my case i don't have any problems with freezes or restarting in the Market, but when you change the camera settings application from photo to video then the program stops. About overclocking the CPU, i use it in this way (540MHz) from some time, all is ok, the phone is fast and the battery is not drain, in my case work from 3 days ago and i have use it my phone to calls, WiFi (browsing), Bluetooth (send/receive files).
this last several days i've spent time to try a lot of android build for my device polaris100. here is my opinion about the best adroid build i've tried :
1.Incubus26jc's Super Froyo (RLS13)
the best build for show off to your friend in reality my device's 128 mb ram can't run it as smooth as it should be. too many frezes it work but with limitation. you need to tweak it a bit to make it bearable : 1 launcher page, keep launcer on memory, kill all windows animation. try to move the installed program to your sd might increase the cache files. uninstall those you never use. minimal widget. you might want to overclock your procc at the risk of your beloved polaris.
2. Kallt_kaffe VaniljEclair RLS11 (CM5.0.8)
It has the bling bling as the froyo build but it works generally alot of better than the froyo one. it work fast out of the box. and if you do the tweak i mentioned above it work alot of more faster. but not as fast as it should be if compared to those official device that came out with eclair.
3. [ANDROID] Myn’s Warm Donut - [RLS 5 - 04/24/2010]
this is the oldest adroid of the two above. but it has the least hardware requirement, in other word it really work as it should be (compared to the device that officially came with it). it just some glitches here and there but it is bear able. I'm having alot of fun with this build.
there is alot of other build that i tried but IMHO those 3 above are the one worth to mention.
hope this help.

can u tell me, what works and what didnt work, in these androids???
Most stable for Polaris
Hi,
I always testing any incoming releases.
I vote for Incubus Froyo (RLS13 yet). If you don't use lot of screens, widgets, than it is the most stable for daily use. These things are the most important for me and they are work:
- Incoming calls come fast
- Data plan works: Task, Calendar, Contact
- BT carkit works
- Battery: I use sometimes pcarvalho lastest winmo and it drains battery more, than Android.
I think the most freezes are about the low free memory. But I'm on it to get more memory. If I use app and data on SD, I got max 40MB of free memory.
Hey, I got the same impressions of the Incubus RLS13, very stable BUT suffers from a memory problem... well, can't expect too much from the Polaris RAM when compared to the new devices in the market.
However, can u guys tell me if the Launchers (PRO and ADW) should make the phone slower (choppy)? I decided to stay with the stock launcher, apparently works better (apps, screens in/out), but I checked that PRO and ADW don't use a lot of memory.
For example, Tjahjo07, when u say keep the launcher in memory and 1 screen only, which launcher are u referring to?
Cheers!
@grgomes
he means launcher pro.
Tks Phyt. Yeah, I did try the speed-up suggestions, my Pola100 is much faster now.
2 screens LP, keep in memory, people widget and weather only. Minimal freeze and FC so far.
I did however go back to Liquid's 16/07 nbh, the 26/07 from DZO was giving me a lot of charging and booting issues. Seems much more stable now.
Im waiting for a Pola version for the 24/08 nbh from DZO, read some good reviews from people using Vogue...
I flashed Incubus26jc's Super Froyo (RLS14), Kallt_kaffe VaniljEclair RLS11 (CM5.0.8), Myn’s Warm Donut - [RLS 5], but there is no-one can run in my Polaris smooth.
My suggestion is don't install Android in your Polaris for business. Otherwise, maybe you will loss order or job.
Good Luck Everybody!
VaniljEclair
Use the VaniljEclair an reduce the pages of ADW.Launcher to 1! It works really fast!!! Ive got Pola200. If i flash Incubus Froyo WLAN dows not work. Running the other ROM everything works fine!!! I had 1.6 myns warm donut before. It had benn run from SD Card. By flashing Eclair I got a 2.1 which works as fast as Donut from SD card. Try it! Its great!!!
F1 plz
i read this guide : sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstallWithAtoolsNand
step by step done, but after install hardSPL, when i'm pressed CameraButton and Reboot, see the tricolor page , and nothing happen. what can i do ?!
@moapz: oh my god .. take a breath, you have posted in all the topics. wait a minute. someone will answer you. i think you are not doing something well. i have did that tutorial some time ago and had no problem with it. it would be better for you to try to install in haret mode first.

thanks TrakX.
i installed android NAND on my pola200 and worked. but after some days it goes crazy and according to this forum thresd i could remove old version and now i want to install another stable version, so i read wiki page but all links not worked! or say file not found. so i'm going back to read threads again to find what version is good. but another problem! ; many of this guides uses haret.exe to install android but i cant do this, because i don't have WM on my pola200 to run it. so can you help me for that? how to install new android ?

New TP2

Ive just recently purchased a TP2 from US Cellular and immediately unlocked and flashed the device. Ive been through about 10 or so roms and I like the max sense but i need something that uses less memory. I don't want to use titanium because its too basic for me. Anyone have any info as to which roms are faster than others? Also is every phone basically the same or will everyone have a different experience with the same roms? Thanks.
I would install OCT (overclocking program - you can find it here on xda forum) and if you use energy rom with max sense there is a possibility to turn off standard Start Menu - there are other like List Menu or Compact Start Menu. It would give you about 40 mb of free ram more.
WOW is all i can say. I cant believe how much changing the start menu to compact helped. I went from 25ish %(free ram) after boot to 52ish % after boot. Now i just have to figure out how to use oct its pretty basic i guess... thanks Raul
also is there a way to double check the settings took? i noticed a big improvement since i changed the start menu but it doesn't seem like anything is working faster with the overclock?
You could always download PPCkitchen and build your own rom. You can test different configurations to see what gets you the best free memory.
I did that with my old titan to get 6.5 but, my TP2 I am still running stock (well, Mr.X's stock) but, just re-downloaded PPCk and will be building my own rom...

[Q] x10i CM7 RC2 012 WLOD

I've loaded the new CM7 RC2 versions from 009 to 011.
The WLOD accurs when launching stock browser or facebook and some games.
What I've done is to go to Cyanogen Settings and to Performance.
I ticked the Set on boot checkbox and changed to Battery saver.. since then haven't had any WLOD on stock browser or facebook for android.
Guess this is OC related.
Although when I restart my phone it gives a "force close " error on Cyanogenmod Settings and changes my govenerback to on demand the WLOD is still not accuring.
Is the WLOD issue resolved in 012 or am I just lucky for now.
Also hope this works for more people or the Devs . Sorry but I can't post on the Devs Threads.....
I've tried everything... no WLOD on the 2 mentioned apps anymore. Don't know what fixed it , but it only stopped after as mentioned above
i would try this but im on the 12 rom. Are you suggesting that going back to 11 and changing the settings, then reflashing and restoring data would work?
I won't suggest that... I went on to the new v012 and now WLOD on v012..
I Will go back to v011 and do the same changes to see what happens..
This was not meant as a solution to the problem just maybe for the DEVS to have a look.
Also on v011 I can play fruit slice but WLOD on v012.
EDIT: also i've noticed when playing 3D games White LED coming on and off but not killing phone and when on low power,, this WLOD issue might be the Mhz Difference and battery types in lots of different phones.
So one custom rom maybe doesn't support various types, hense forth people getting diiferent WLOD crashes
EDIT : Now the fruit slice game works... Haven't changed anything..
This WLOD's are really an extreme random thing, DEVS must have a really hard time.
I think most people don't flash their phone completely the right way maybe even me..
I've noticed that unless you do a complete format of the sd card and don't restore anything from a previous version there is always something
left on the phone and when downloading the same app it uses that data. hense WLOD's (maybe)
v012 Facebook and Browser working
Ex : I've Reflashed my phone cleared all the things off and when I reinstalled the fancy widget's app the downloaded skins were still their, I think lots of apps leave traces so even with the cleaning tools that exist you dont always get rid of everything and with a restore lots of people probably import the corrupted files.
CM 7 v012 is alot better than v011.. Thanks to the DEVS..
i've Had minor issues that somehow sort themselves with a reboot after first load of a app,,, nothing else serious as yet.
v012 Is The most stable Android 2.3.3 so far.
Thanx

Lag Reduction Guide

Although I have none... Maybe these things as well as contributors can come up with some ideas that might have helped:
1. Kies restore via norbarb's/Kies method. This will remove root, but rerooting is 30 secs.
Root Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
Kies Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261232
All information is in his thread, but I feel it's easier to download Kies
start it up
and then plug your phone in. Kies will do the rest.
2. Seeder from Market by Entropy512. Root Required!
Download from Market
enable lag reduction
check only 'Start automatically on boot''
select performance profile "Moderate"
Reboot your phone and check its on.
3. Disable the following:
Power Saving (This one lags the phone quite a bit on different charge levels)
Screen Mirroring
Multi Window (This one straight lags the phone period, kinda useless)
4. Android Assitant
Download from Market
Select Tools from Tabs
Select Startup Manager
Under User Tab - Kill anything you don't care about
Under System Tab (Check to Kill on Startup, will run when you start it)-
Email (I don't use it)
Exchange Services (I don't use it - for MS Exchange Servers)
Help
Internet
Maps
Facebook SNS
Talk
Youtube
Reboot the phone
5. Developer Options. (Click 7 Times on the Build Number)
Window animation scale = 0.5
Transition animation scale = 0.5
Animator duration scale = 0.5
I don't use any ATT stuff so I removed it, but I doubt this will do anything. I have everything else enabled other than listed above like air gestures blah bla bla
By all means not exhaustive and lag is based on what you have loaded.... but I just hope this helps!
If others have anything to add please do.
0.5 still gives me lag, I set it to 0 just because it feels more instant.
I still see lag in glow animations, however, so I really think there is something up with the scaling/governor of the CPU/GPU. This will likely be remedied in future optimizations, patches, and/or third-party kernels (I hope).
I also turned off Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Stay, and Smart Scroll just because a part of me feels those were unnecessarily taxing. Messaging actually seems to load faster now that I don't think it needs to track finger movements.
I'm the opposite, I have all the features turned on & animations at default 1.
What I did was frooze all AT&T apps but left Samsung Apps alone since I like to see what they have to offer. Of course, you can freeze them if you want.
DL an app called Android tuner from the Play store & went to the startup section. I unchecked all apps that I didnt want to startup.
I have done just about everything listed in the 1st post and more at least 3 times in the past 3 days..
The lag-a-thon continues..
I have not tried Seeder or Android Assist nor will I!
I am sure they are premium and top notch applications but if I need to go to that extent just make what should be one of the fastest and quickest phones on the planet (based on it's specs) work then it's time for me to return and move along...
Good luck all as the POS is heading back to AT&T.. :good: :good: :good:

I believe you have to leave Samsung apps completely working because they are tied to the SystemUI and features.

Have not tried Kies but may give it a shot later tonight before this thing gets boxed up and sent back to hell...
I doubt there will be any difference whatsoever between using Kies or Odin but hey, I will give it a try..

Sorry about the frustration, but I appreciate you giving it another try as I really am enjoying this phone coming from an Infuse 4G.
In the meanwhile, try seeder and android assistant as well.... Root is reversible anyways.... Good luck!
Seeder is not by entropy512...it relies on a thing called entropy...and most devs say its pacebo as there is no real reason why it would increase performance...this is just based of the entropy threads ive read...and I believe entropy512 was one of those people who stated it was placebo so a little irony there...however if it makes your phone run faster then use it but I never noticed any differnce with using seeder on any of my previous phones (samsung infuse, htc vivid)
Here is seeders official thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Its like any other program and settings done to phones. Some maybe affected some maybe not.... I through it on most my phones.... Depends what you are running I guess, but who knows... I have 2 SGS4's... One for me and my wife... She doesn't have it and I do.... Most settings are the same, i'll see... Both bought on opening date at the same time, so hard to tell hardware batch... But I will seee......
Try looking for an app that prevents apps from starting up like "android tuner" or "Rom toolbox pro".
Something else is hit power saver off and on. Power saver limits the cpu speed might be it...
sgh-i747(d2att)(sgs3) on latest cm10.1 or ultimatum
i've noticed a tiny bit of a delay when unlocking the phone and perhaps when opening SMS and the phone, but its not enough that I feel it's the same lag that a lot of people here are complaining about. I'm only basing that on the fact that there's no way i'd be THIS upset (as some of you are) based on what i'm seeing. So while there's lag, im afraid to try this stuff because it cant possibly be what you guys are experiencing unless you're all huge complainers, which I doubt :silly:
These steps can be done on any phone and are generic. I am suggesting you try it
Just a quick, simple suggestion for everyone posting their best "you should try app XYZ" on this thread and others without posting any links to them.... please take the extra 2 seconds to link the app from the Play Store - ahhh, you see what I did there! - because it makes your attempt at a helpful post actually helpful! In the thread I made about that Weather Station app, do you know how many apps that have the words "Weather Station" there are on the Play Store? Here's the current list - would be pretty mean of me if I didn't link it, right? And someone still asked me on that thread what the name of the developer was because they didn't just click the link! :silly:
My 2 cents........
I am rooted and have noticed a little bit of lag - In the past I have used an app called "LagFix" free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5ncmlsbGVkbW9ua2V5LmxhZ2ZpeCJd
So I tried installing it - dropped my animations in Settings/Developer Options to .5 and I noticed a pretty decent improvement.
I have also have always used Android Assistant https://play.google.com/store/search?q=android+assistant&c=apps because it is such a useful APP and it helps as well.
FYI - I also froze some of the unneeded ATT Bloatware APPS but I am not sure if that had any effect or not -
I was a little dissapointed when I first got this phone because of the lag but honestly I think I have been spoiled by running custom roms for so long I got used to having little to no bloat and hi power kernels --- so, I had to bring things into perspective - can't wait to get the bootloader unlocked and some AOSP roms to flash - lol
I still love this phone despite the few minor annoyances...
So i read in another thread of some people trying a different launcher and having better results.. I just installed nova launcher and bam.. lag is completely gone. LIke.. there is ZERO lag, not even a hitch.. so maybe the problem lies in how samsung did the launcher?
The only thing that i dont like now is that I can't use the really nicely redone clock/weather widget and the fantastic briefing widget which i fell in love with on day one. Oh well, at least my phone zips now.

Nice going to add to the front.
Some people are using Trickster to tweak the cores... which I have heard it works, but I get wakelocks from this,...
What kind of wakelocks are you seeing? I'm seeing very very little wakelocks using trickster. I unplugged my phone at 4:30 am this morning. 12 hours later I still have 89% battery left with very few wakelocks (kernel/partial). With 48 mins screen on. Couple of phone calls and texts.
Yeah not sure why.... I am not sure how to find these wake locks.... I would need to jump into Better battery stats to do so...

[Completed] Taipad 9x kernel help. Not sure if anyone uses this tablet anymore

I used to use this tablet a lot when it was new. It was fast and ran most apps with out any problems. It's been a few years since I used it so I figured I'd turn it on and see how it did with newer apps. Turns out it is quite a bit slower now and games lag more than I was expecting.
I was looking into rooting and putting a custom kernel on it to see if could speed it up a bit. I ran a few rooting apps first and every one said it was already rooted. I haven't changed anything from its default settings so I'm assuming it was done at the factory like that. I've spent some time looking for a custom kernel, but I haven't come up with anything yet. I'm not sure if I need one for what I'm trying to accomplish.
I really just want to increase the CPU clock and if possible the GPU clock speed as well. I tried running "Kernel Adiutor" and "Kernel Toolkit" to change the CPU speed. I was able to change it, but it won't allow me to go higher than the stock 1200mhz. It says it will go up 1440mhz in these apps, but when I set it there it locks up and I have to reboot the tablet.
This isn't that important as I have a new phone I use on a regular basis, but it would be nice to use the tablet again with out the lagginess it has now or less of it anyways.
This info is from the CPU-Z app. If you need more just ask.
