3.0 or not, it'll still work because 3.0 is backwards compatible.

yep

I'm actually afraid to ask this with the other issues surrounding the non standard implementation of Type C in the Nexus 6P (not supporting USB Power Delivery, Not supporting Display Port for video out), has it been confirmed that the 6P will act as a USB Host Controller (USB OTG)? I connect my DSLRs to it for shooting using a program called Helicon Remote.

Znaps has C, micro B and Lightning converters similar to that. You might suggest it.

I think what was meant is that because the Nexus 6P is only a USB 2.0 Device, it will not have 3.0 or 3.1 speed/functionality even with a 3.0 cable.
Lesson. Type C is connector. It does not mean fast charging nor USB 3 though it supports those things.

I bought a Leef Access reader a few months ago to view video from my dashcam on my phone. http://www.leefco.com/access-micro-sd-card-reader
Well now my 6p has USB C. Is there either a type C card reader or a C to Micro adapter? Something similar to what the OP was but instead of USB A female, a microUSB female receptacle.
Thanks!

There are lots of them listed on Amazon.

Anyone know if the Nexus 6P will read portable drives and thumb drives that are formatted with exFAT with the OTG Cable?? I have several videos that are larger than 4Gb and if the 6P doesn't read exFAT then, it's a deal breaker. Thanks

Sadly the 6P does NOT support exFAT out of the box. However if you have custom recovery there are other kernels already out that add support. Google left it out because Microsoft who made the tech charges a steep licensing fee to include support officially.

I've looked at these, but the Google Engineer that has been reviewing cables rated this specific one poorly and stated it was not of high quality and didn't follow the proper specs. It would probably be OK for data use, but I'd rather not risk messing it up.

[Q] USB host without dock?

Does the TF300 contain USB-host chip inside tablet? Will I get USB port If I connect charging cable to USB female-female adapter?
I just bought the adapter from amazon. It plugs into the charging connector, and it works great with my external hard drives for movies and stuff. It concerns me a little about how flimsy it feels when it's plugged in, but it sure beats dropping $150 just to have a usb port. It is a full sized usb 2.0 port on the adapter.
---------- Post added at 07:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
I haven't tried a female to female cord yet, but that would be even cheaper than the adapter.

Yes, I know about the adapter. But I live in Russia and it takes a looooooong time to wait for delivery from shops like amazon or ebay
So thats why I ask about female-female USB adapter. I just wonder if somebody have tried to use it.

[Q] USB extension for Sandisk Dual USB?

I picked up a SanDisk Dual USB drive, and although it works well, I was disappointed to see it's a bit too big to work with the bumper case I use. I briefly considered modifying the case, but think my best option is getting a short USB extension cable... Though I thought that would be a simple and cheap solution. After a little looking around though, I'm not sure I know what micro usb extension I need - MHL, OTG, Power? As best as I can tell, I need what they're marketing as a micro to micro OTG extension - but if someone can confirm, I'd appreciate it. My concern comes from comments on some saying they don't work for charging or syncing (search for "YCS Basics 6 inch USB Micro male to female OTG extension cable" on amazon), but it sounds like the mhl cable is just for HDMI.
Help?
Just get a small USB OTG cable. I use one sometimes with my Corsair OTG drive and it works great. Not all of my cases will let me lug the micro USB in easily hence why I have a small OTG cable. I can post pictures if you would like.

Can you return it for the new USB 3.0 model? Supposedly they made the uUSB connector longer to work with more cases.

Really? That would have been great... but no. Or maybe... but probably not worth it to me at this point. I got a standard OTA cable and have just been living with it that way. And I haven't looked, but I'd have to think they're charging a premium for the 3.0 enhancement. I bought mine during one of those Christmas sales, so I got it real cheap at the time. Thanks though.

Not sure if the actual term for it is OTG as that's what the adaptor was called for Microusb to USB A connection.

I havent used them but some companies are making flash drive with usb c and usb a if all you want it for is a flash drive you can get a flash drive that works without an adapter
Be careful of hard adapters, they (Ha Ha, YOU) will break themselves or your port
Edit, these may not be OTG also. Yet similar OTG 90* adapters have similar drawbacks/ benefits.
There are 2 like this on Amazon.

I am going to get this soon.
This right angle horizontal, is not yet reviewed, but a sister item with right angle (up) is.
Frys usually stocks this style in micro, maybe a C version is there?
I have used one! The one I use works only with USB flash drives that are fat32 format! The brand of mine is belkin and I bought it from best buy!
Very nice to use this for watching movies and not having to use up storage on the device.
Only drawback is that the usb-c port does not allow you to use wired headphones at the same time! So, I had to go wireless Bluetooth headset!

Curious question. Since this is one of the first phones where the add-on option comes into play (mods), couldnt one devise an external ssd drive moto mod? Either that or one of those all-in-one adapter mods where i can plug in older tech? Im always skeptical about destroying the one & only port on the phone anyway.
In case anyone only wants flash storage I purchased the Sandisk Dual ultra and it works great, usb c and a usb a connector.
Also only have to carry one thing as opposed to two. I bought mine with 128gb storage, preformatted to fat32, was simply plug and play.

Any working USB-C Micro SD readers?

I ordered a micro sd reader to use with my new PH1 that was listed as working with the Samsung S8. Thinking that it would work, since the PH1 has the same chipset, I gave it a try, but to no avail, it doesn't work at all with the PH1, at least not with the latest stock firmware.
Has anyone had luck with a reader?
FYI, this one most definitely is not compatible.
1st a question; have you already activated USB Debugging?
Android 9 Pie:
Settings/System/Advanced/Developer options/USB Debugging
2nd I have found some software (apps) may not see a connected memory card, when others will on some adapter. Possibly try an alternate file browser.
Attached pic's:
I have been using a few different Samsung USB-C to Micro-USB & USB-2.0 adapters to attach various memory cards & Card Readers and have exerienced comment 2 above.
Hopefully something here of assistance.

Yes, I have USB debugging enabled.
I have the same Sandisk USB A/Micro USB flash drive. It works fine with a USB micro to C adapter. The micro SD card reader that I had bought wasn't compatible. The USB system options (same menu when connecting the phone via USB to a computer) wouldn't let me select the option to allow the phone to control the USB device.
I'm just hoping someone has found a micro SD card reader that works with this phone. Sure, I can return incompatible devices for a refund, but I'd like to avoid the hassle, if at all possible.
This is the one I use with my phone and it works fine https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078Y2C2K8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 unfortunately its unavailable right now but maybe one of the other ones by that company that's available may work but then again they may not. Hopefully this will at least help you out a little bit.
I use the Scandisk OTG Flash drive Type C found here, its about the size of a quater :
I like this one it works flawlessly

USB C OTG

Does the Op7P not support a USB C thumb drive directly plugged in? Mine wont work, however its a dual drive with a usb a, which when I plug into a C->A OTG cable it does work.
Try turning it on in Settings > System > OTG Storage. From what I understand earlier versions of OOS needed this turned on, whereas later versions negated it being required. Also, is the USB drive formatted with a compatible file system?
I found some USB-C OTG cables on Amazon. is there one that may function better over another?
