I was going to post this as well. Has anyone updated or have you postponed it? I postponed mine for now as I'm thinking of rooting my phone and I don't know if root will be possible if I update now. Also I've had Samsung Pay for a while now so I don't need that although I did hear others getting updates on their versions of Note 5's so that the wireless charger (bestBuy free one) would work on our Note 5's.

Does anyone knownif tetheer with msl still works after update?

It doesn't appear to be working on my phone. Tested it just now to see and made sure to go reconfigure it in the ##DATA# settings but no dice. It will unlock tethering but any device I connect to it can't use the Internet, basically acts like the device isn't connected to the Internet.

Holy battery Batman! I didn't want to say anything earlier, but I'm convinced, battery life is **** now after update.

Could be just something up with my phone and or connectivity then!

Did anyone's phone randomly reboot itself? My friend's phone and mine both did. Everything stock except for the tether mod.

Not sure what this update did, but my phone has been randomly locking twice now since the update. Never had this issue before, no roots/mods applied and no new applications.
Edit: Went into stock recovery and did a cache wipe to see if that helps at all. Really prefer not to wipe this phone but may have to if it continues :-/
Did not work, it freezes constantly now and will now try wiping it....Samsung really tore it up now.
Okay really upset now...did a factory reset and it's freezing at the setup screen. I just got this phone not even two weeks ago.

Sorry to hear that. My phone only restarted once so far. Hope it doesn't continue.

So update here... Whatever this update did has tore my phone to inability to function. Constant rebooting/crashing even after factory resets in recovery/in-OS. Looks like I'm yet again going into the Sprint store to get it fixed.
Last edit i hope: So after letting it set there and reboot constantly, it has stopped and is behaving itself for the past hour so far. I do not know what it was that caused this. I've already activated Samsung Pay again and still good. Will keep updated.

If you keep having issues, download the stock tar and try to flash in Odin and then do a factory reset. If that fixes it, just don't update.

Has it been tested that we can "downgrade" to the previous version? Saying this did activate Samsung Pay and it dealing with hardware it might have incremented the firmware. Did that once on a older phone and rather wait till it's a green light to do it.
On another note, I'm noticing that my phone crashes when I'm at work. I can be anywhere else so far and be fine, just when I get to work my phone starts to act up. I know the firewall is heavy on reading all data going through it. Could it be possible that Samsung Pay is not liking the breach of certificates in it's data and causing the phone to reboot in panic?

Since the update, wireless charging for me had been a no go. Off and on. I didn't have issues before

Can you guys walk me through how to take this update if I'm already rooted running freezas 1.2 kernel? Do I have to Odin back to stock then update then reroot?
Sent from my SM-N920P using xda premium

I posted in this forum about getting a message stating "bootstrap failed". Same behavior as mentioned above. It took 3 factory resets but it appears to be working as advertised. Don't know if it's a related issue or not.

Ur charger just works as usb jig and it will come handy when you have soft bricks. Do not worry there is nothing wrong with ur phone.

This is not even remotely normal. It's likely that either your phone or your usb cable is defective or damaged.
I'd get a warranty replacement...
This is what happens. If my sg2 skyrocket is off and i plug it in to charge this screen comezs up at the very top it says Factory mode in red

Then it has the android guy

It's used to flash custom operating systems (roms), kernels, etc. You should take it back to store if you just got it a couple days ago and get a replacement.
Bring your cable with you so they can test at the store if it's the cable causing it to go into download mode or if the phone itself is the problem. At any rate, you paid too much money to have a buggy phone and if this is happening there are likely other problems with your device. Replace it.
Thanks everyone for the input. it wound up being a detective cable causing the issue i was having.

I know this is old, buy WHAT! Defective cable. Damn there are some people who would have bought that lol
What I mean is that cord.....defective or not for charging...it is pretty much a jig. It is what people use to recover their phones when they have bricked them (funnily enough "bricked" is no longer bricked anymore....hmm I wonder how many people threw out phones thinking they could never work again?)

I'm thinking it was a cable for factory use in development at Samsung and got packaged up by mistake.
EDIT: Also wanted to add, "bricked" is still "bricked". It's just that people "soft-brick" and think it's a brick, when usually it's just a boot loop. Hard bricks do happen, unfortunately...

T-Mobile has confirmed Marshmallow for Note 5

Take this with a grain of salt but the Software Updates page at T-Mobile has been updated and the Note 5 is on there. Now we all knew that it would be updated to Marshmallow but maybe this is a sign that we will see it sooner than later.

When this is released by T-Mobile will i need to un-root to get the OTA update? If so, will there be a root in the works for Android M? I am rooted on 5.1.1 BOH6 with Arter97 Kernel, Xposed and the latest TWRP. Just curious thanks for all the hard work devs.
My reason for asking is probably the same as anyone else. I want the newest OS but I want to keep the tweaks made possible through root such as, modifying the build.prop file to fix the RAM leak, better battery life through titanium back up by freezing apps and adding some features by editing the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db in SQLite Editor
Great, get ready for all the complaining about the update not being fast enough to arrive. Only to be followed up with complaints about how the update made the phone slow and the battery drain.

Yes, if you want to get OTA updates the phone cannot be rooted.
Good luck,
Have a great evening!
You won't have to unroot to update. Not with smart switch on your computer, however it will unroot your phone, and generally when android updates a whole system, root is lost till someone figures it out, when kit Kat first came out root took forever

Funny when I read that I was like wow no matter what forum I am a part of these sad to say but real bad (tried to keep it clean) questions get asked. Come on people do your research before you root. Also how do you expect people to see into the future and answer what will happen down the line

Edit: I think that's wrong. If you click testing phase it brings the pink line over to testing, if you click completed it brings it all the way over. If you click note 5 under the updates, it shows that it's still under manufacturing development
still shows manufacturer development for me.... hopefully changes.. .the marshmallow leak has been pretty stable, but it occasionally reboots while on calls still.

Save your finger until Mid-Late January.
International versions updated by Samsung haven't even gotten it, and historically they get it a month or more before the carriers in the US release theirs.

T-Mobile update

I thought this was the one but it was a false alarm and I haven't noticed anything different yet lol.

The first thing I noticed after the update was improved fingerprint recognition. I've never had issues with my thumbs not reading, but it seemed my index fingers had to be perfectly aligned in order to unlock my phone. Now they work at off angles and much quicker.
I also promptly froze the Gear VR apps since I don't want to risk battery hits from something I won't use.
Anyone use stock messaging? I'm curious if the awful delay when trying to send a message is gone.
Just a question. With the app optimization do we still need greenery? Just wondering.

Weird thing I noticed was when when I factory reset after I took the update factory recovery was saying something about dfverify tree or something like that.
Interesting; I just had my Note5 unlocked and with my AT&T SIM in, I was able to download and install the update OTA.
Happy to see all known Stagefright vulnerabilities are now addressed.

SIM cards are used to determine OTAs for Nexus devices. But you are correct that they typically don't matter for other OEMs because each carrier gets a different model number assigned to their hardware variant.

Samsung wireless charger is supper picky, third party ones, not so much
I'm already noticing improved battery life.
Unplugged for 3.5 hours, and in the marginal LTE/H area that I am for work, I would be down 20% or more with light usage. As of now, I'm at 89%.
Is anyone else experiencing issues with Text Messages? I'm using the stock messaging app (after I started having issues with EvolveSMS). I'll get the same text messages from someone 5 to 7 times, kind of getting annoying when my S2 vibrates and get's blown up with notifications.

I never had any issues with that before. Performance and battery seem great so far. Android System/OS each are using less resources than before too. Very happy so far.

Still early to see if I see any difference in battery. I think they just fixed the way battery stats report android os use. Before the update, Android was #1 on the list showing 800+ mah of estimated battery usage. Now it's showing 326 mah usage. Not sure why my android os usage would change after an update on the same charge?? Maybe someone can explain that to me

Things might still be settling in, but I've noticed that my fingerprint scanning times are much quicker and accurate, and the speed/fluidity of the entire OS seems to be much, much smoother. Since the device is still in its infancy, Samsung might have gone to work patching and smoothing out things, working out better resource management, etc. which might be reflected in the battery stats?

If you had hotspot enabled via changing the APN settings prior to this OTA, it will still be enabled after. The OTA leaves the option to edit the APN settings grayed out, but doesn't reset the values. I just confirmed that tethering is still working for me.

Hostpot bypass with latest update APD3

Ok so i got the sprint S7 Edge with the latest update and like most of you know you cant change your APN settings with the latest update. Since I had no idea about this before i took the update I lost the chance of gettinf free hostpot. Now if you changed the APN settings before the update it will stick after you take the update. I found this video of a someone turning hostpot on without the need to change any APN settings but it wasnt in the latest update. I still went ahead and gve it a shoot and it worked. This is are the steps you need to do.
1- Resrtar your device.
2- Once is back up quickly turn on hostpot.
3- If you get the error message try turn it on againg without restarting your phone.
note: I got my hostpot to stick in the second try. The first try got the error message after like 10 seconds so without restarting the phone gave it another shoot and it worked. If the secodn time doesnt work just go ahead and restart and try step 1-3 again. Good luck.

yeah, thats is the reasong why i posted. I dont have the time to be here 24/7 like other ppl so it took me a while to find out how to get hostpot working with APNs grayed out. There is like 1 post mentioning this hostpot fixed but that was in another update, not the latest one so I didnt know if it was going to work.

Hello, so this is free and Sprint won't limit you to like 3 GB? I must have tether as I live out in the country where there is no cable or dsl available, and I thought I would have to wait for root for the S7. And would this work on the Sprint S7 non edge as well? thanks.

Yes, it is free and I don't think sprint has a way to find out. Not sure if it works on the regular S7 (non edge). Give it a shoot and report back [emoji106]

when that happens all you need to do is repeat the proccess one more time and it should work just fine. I'm on the latest update PF2 and still works. It didnt at first for some reason but after few attemps it finally worked.

I'm on PG1, and don't have hotspots on my plan, but the feature works without any error messages. I was able to connect my s5 to my s7's hotspot and surf for quite a while. I didn't have to do any mods or change any apn settings.
Just to let everyone know, this still works with September patch PH7.
I can confirm this works on all sprint galaxy roms from s5 to s7edge
If your hotspot shuts off you have it set to time out
Go to configure hotspot and set time out to never i think its 1 hour by default. It will work till you shut it off if you set it to never time out.

This no longer works since the last update. After a few minutes the sub message pops up
