Hi,
I am tried a lot to flash stock ROM to my galaxy R but everytime it failed. I am using Windows 7 and odin. Everytime odin start writing the rom but it radomly freezes when screen autolocks or display goes off. Why this is happeing? Why can't in recovery mode screen keep itself active? I am unable to stop phone display going off. Please help me to flash my mobile as its currently unusable.
Odin log shows then removed when display goes off.
recovery mode? It has nothing to do with flashing via Odin.
To install your FW u must enter the download mode: volume down + home + power
Anyway if your screen goes off itself in recovery mode or download mode then it's an abnormal behavior that can rather indicate HW issue.
oh sorry if that is wrong term I used. I thought to flash using odin I need to go recovery mode using vol up+ power ON + Menu key combination.
What I need is just to have working phone with stock 2.3.5 ROM. Using odin it fails sometimes say 30% or 50% or even 70%. The same ROM I have flashed successfully but always touching the finger on display to active the phone screen. But same is not working now.
Reason I flashed or flashing is that my phone started radomly restarting and if I off it and wait for 2-3 hrs then it will start. So I decided to flash my phone.
Download mode doesn't auto-lock. Are you sure ur in download mode?
I had exactly the same problem of odin restart in download mode. Removing the SD card and SIM card and try flashing it.
took fr service as phone restarted often and they change the PBA(Printed board assembly) for me.
Yes, after some radom time and before rom writing finishes, screen locks(looses display so odin removes that device) and writing fails.
I have tried more that 15 times and yes all those tried without SIM and SD card.
I purchases this 4 months back only but as I have flashed it and phone is not working did I loose the warranty?
Try again with this steps
1. Download stock rom package (use checkfus)
2. Turn off ur phone now hold vol down key+home key+powerkey
3. Ur phone will boot in download mode u will see warning, press vol up to continue
4. Now open odin on ur pc, connect phone usind cable and wait till box turns yellow noe chose downloaded stock rom package in pda
5. Check auto reboot, reset time and make sure re partion is not checked and click start
6. Wait till process complet u will see progress bar on phone and odin

following the steps which are mentioned in the above link if you are still facing the problem them there may be some problem with ".TAR" file better download it again and try flashing.
xlm13x,
My phone is not working and saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies". how can I re-download stock ROM?
mj.vikram,
i follows the exact same stpes from the same thread. still no luck.
can I claim the warranty as I just want to flash original rom again to see if restart problem resolves and it got failed?
Is there any limit to flash a firmware? while searching on google got some page saying there is some taint-firmware counter? what is that?
Dude....don't try to turn your device on i regular way, but press combination: volume down+home+power simultaneously. You must be able to enter the DM! (U can try removing battery and putting it back)
Recovery mode in Kies has nothing to do with rm on your phone. I really don't think Kies will help you.
There is no issue in going to download mode for me. Just its not able to keep on itself till the firmware writing completes. So now I think it looks h/w issue to me. What worries me is how to get it in normal working phone and give it to service center.

Ok now i got your point, phone is coming out of Download mode while flashing the stock ROM.... am i correct.
if this is the problem then there may be some issue with H/W..... if you haven't rooted your mobile and you are on stock ROM then take it to Service center...
Have u flashed any custom rom on ur phone? Is ur download counter has been increased?
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda premium
Just take it to the service center. They won't be able to see if you rooted your device or not anyway in such case IMO. The phone is unable to boot, and reflash either. IT's clearly a HW issue. We have no power to affect download or recovery mode to be honest. I really don't think there's anybody on this forum that can help you fix DM.
what happens if sufficient battery is not there will it take power from system.
eg: if battery is only 5 % and we connected it in DM what will happen, will it continue or it will be switched off.
Thanks all for the replies. Let me confirm you all once again. My phone was using stock ROM. Never rooted it(not even knowing how to do that) Just frustrating restart issue and some google search conlcuded as I should flash stock rom.
so, I am doing that I even got success in flashing my phone after some attempts. Then for two days it worked fine. But again same problem started and I become impatient and tried to flash stock rom and it failed. Now my phone is nowhere so I can't check anything on my phone. How can I know download counter in this situation?
I heard service center need phone with stock rom installed and working and then they will take warranty claim. Is that the case?
Worried what to do with my phone now? it looks h/w issue to me also now that is why once flashing starts after some time it fails before reaching 100%.
no worries just take it to Samsung Service Center and tell them that your phone got switched off and its not starting, they will ask you to provide invoice xerox copy and flash the Firmware and give it back to you...
as you haven't tried rooting or installing Custom FW, so no need think of the Download counter.
toberabl century
Yes. I now understand what download counter is and my phone is already showing it as "NO" so its not custom ROM flashed. Hope this will be enough for me to claim warraty for my non-OS phone.

Give ur phone in service they will fix it for free, u havent rooted ur phone and also ur counter is zero so no need to worry about warranty void, do update what happens
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda premium
Dude, dont tell them anything about you trying to flash stock fw. Just tell that the phone is not staying on. That should do.
It definitely seems like a hardware issue to me, so probably even they wont be able to flash a firmware and so they will start working on the hardware aspect. Just dont let them know that u tried reflashing the firmware or such coz they might try to void the warranty saying you fiddled with the phone.
Keep us updated.
I had exactly same problem as you, random restarts. It will become more frequent and troublesome if you keep the problem.
Give it to service center as your counter is 0. Your phone surely needs main board change.
I need help guys,
I used Odin to root the phone and did my first custom rom which is the clean rom...it went through the process and when it was about to reboot i got the system software not approved by verizon and take phone to store
I have been told to odin back to stock but it wont let me. The stock image on odin wont work it says fail
I tried the first method and used odin in download mode to flash the stock image
Failed:
This is what I get
added
Odin V3 engine
File Analysis
all threads completed (succeed 0 / Fail 1)
In the Odin Download mode on the phone the top left reads as follow
Odin Mode (Red Letters)
Product Name (SCH-I535)
Custom Binary Download : Yes (1 counts )
Current Binary Custom
System Status Custom
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
One thing I gotta mention is that when I got the phone last week it had an OTA update from Verizon which I did install and then a few days later I rooted the phone and when I tried to use Clean Rom it gave me the dreaded Verizon message
Sounds like you didn't unlock the bootloader.
Ya your bootloader is locked again ... unlock it and redo the steps everything should be fine after that
Guys I know that the bootloader is locked but i cannot get back to stock to unroot phone and then unlock the bootloader
Odin recognizes phone but the stock image goes into fail mode right away
I cannot get into recovery and the only thing I can do is go to download mode and Odin but nothing else

You are aware he can Odin flashed the latest OTA instead of that you have provided. Here it is :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439. This will also help fix his phone being that it is recent. Forgot this link to get him back on track: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974114.
i thought thats what he already tried? but yes you can odin any ota file being that an unlocked bootloader isnt needed.
When I try the VRBLK3 chain it goes into set up connection for like 10 minutes on Odin with a fail at the end each time
I'm not sure being ive never had that issues ... im sorry and good luck
try flashing odin stock ROM, not bootchain

I had a similar issue once. This helpful post by h3llsdr0id eventually got me up and running. Took a total of like 4 hours though lol.

Make sure you have the correct files. This is for the original root66 so it's ICS. Once I booted up and activated I took the Verizon OTAs all the way to JB and then rooted/unlocked bootloader.
edit: I actually had to go back to ICS to reprovision my SIM so not sure you have to go through all of this. Try to odin stock JB ROM like mentioned above.
Thank YOU so much guys you have made my day.
After trying all last night and today I got it back to stock with the OTA file through ODIN. That is all I needed and it went right back to brand new stock phone using 4.1.1
WOW.
I thought I was going to have a dead phone.
Thank you all
Glad you got it up and working!!!!!
Yea I had the same problem but all it needed was a handy flash back to stock. The good thing with making these mistakes is that if it happens again you know what to do.

Hi there,
Could someone please help me. I bricked my phone 3 days go and went through odin and root66 stock to unbrick it. I installed CWR and backed up everything, then i purchased triangle away to reset the flash counter. When I did that I got the software not authorized by verizon error screen. It won't let me get into download mode or recovery. Can I still try to use odin? What should I do? I'd really appreciate some help today is the 4th day I have been trying to fix my phone, only to make it worse.
Thank you in advance
You have to get into download mode to use Odin. It will go into download mode, if you will search, there are ways to pull battery along with button combo to get it there. After rooting, use EZ Unlock 1.2 and that will unlock your bootloader without then unauthorized message from Verizon. Make sure you use only that version, the others don't work.

Pull battery, hold volume down+home+power keys while you put the battery back in. If that's too many buttons to fumble with at the same time you can try pulling battery, put it back, hold all three keys while plugging it into your computer. My old phone worked that way, idk about the s3. You SHOULD get the download triangle and it asking you if you want to continue. Hit volume up to continue then plug it in and odin should recognize it. Get the stock rom image to flash in the PDA slot of odin. Accept the OTA's until you're up to date then unlock bootloader, root, then flash custom roms/kernels AFTER you've done the appropriate reading. Theres a sticky in development takes you step by step on how to unbrick, then unlock and root. Those should help once you get into download. Hope this helps! :fingers-crossed:

Thank you for your response. I tried pulling the battery out and holding volume down, home and power keys at the same time while putting battery in, even as i plugged it into my phone, but nothing but the unauthorized error screen comes up. I should note that my phone is note 2 not s3. I apologize for posting it here, but this thread seemed to be just like the problem i was having.
I tried to use chainroot, and got stuck on the logo screen. normally you'd battery pull, go to recovery and wipe data. but i can't find any way to shut down the phone, before doing power-upVol-home.
And now i've tried to odin a stock recovery to undo chainroot, odin fails. could re-run odin with auto-reboot off, but again, no way to shut off and go to recovery.
at this point i'm stuck with the blue screen asking me to use smart switch on PC to do emergency recovery. but smartswitch says the device is not recognized.
thoughts? thanks!
I was stuck rooting on the boot logo too. Had to use odin 3.10 and did "run as administrator". Also if this helps to reboot the stuck phone press vol down+power together until the screen blanks out. If you need to get into download mode, as soon as the screen blanks out, press and hold the Home button ( Don't let go of the vol down and power though ).
Good grief.... the non-removable battery has made these recovery tricks so difficult
thanks twisted_mind. at this point, i only get the blue screen asking me to do smartswitch recovery, and the one thing i CAN seem to do is volDown-power-home and it easily goes to download mode. i have not been able to get to recovery mode no matter what i do (including volUp-power-home, even before this smartswitch message came up after i tried to odin a stock recovery).
so i can still go to dload mode, and stick in a stock rom. the ones i've tried are from sammobile, and a potential issue is that i don't know the exact one to pick (this phone is a demo here in europe and i didn't note the details under settings when it was working). so the ones i try end in an odin FAIL. again, i've also tried odin unchecking auto-reboot, but then the phone is stuck at the very end of dload ("don't turn off target", etc), and i have no way to battery pull, etc.
Instead of holding power to shut off you have to hold power and vol down

I have the turquoise screen that says "an error has occurred... use the emergency recovery function in smart switch...". if i do power + volDown there OR when the phone is stuck in download mode after the odin fail, the phone turns off but then comes right back on with the turquoise error screen. i've tried quickly going to the recovery key combo right when or right after the screen goes dark, but to no avail.
I can easily do power +volDown + home and go to dload mode. i just can't get into recovery mode no matter what i've tried so far.
if i could just find a stock rom that wouldn't fail in odin, or something else to use as AP/PDA in odin, i'd be set i think. wish i knew how to do this. hitting nand erase all in odin doesn't do the trick by the way.

is the version you flashed the same version that you had prior (do the apps look the same, etc)?
so odin passed? (mine FAILs, with 4 different sammobile stock recoveries). I have the S6 Edge, maybe the S6 works fine and I just need the correct S6 Edge firmware.

Actually this is not the link i downloaded the odin from i tried to
Atthach the one i have but faced with the upload limit, even
After ziping and spilting the the odin, upload failed,
So, you better find another odin 3.10.6 a version with all the buttons
are enabled.
So it's my 4th day on bootloop and i still can't figure out how to turn my phone on again.
I know how to push files to TWRP. I have Odin ready. I have 2-3 different stock ROM available.
Flashing stock rom doesn't help - even if i put Nand erase all.
Kies or Smart Switch doesn't help me neither.
Tell me what to do - please.
Bootloader, modem, rom, kernel, put files to TWRP or?
Just 2 minute of your time would be greatly appreciated. Please!
Boot into TWRP and go to Wipe, then Advanced Wipe. Check off data, cache, and internal storage, then swipe to do the wipe. Once complete, power off the phone.
Next, boot into Download Mode and flash your latest local stock firmware via Odin. Once the flash is complete, the phone will restart on its own.
The above steps put you at a clean slate. If it's still bootlooping at this point, it's most likely a hardware issue and the phone will need to be replaced.

I know, but there isn't anything else that can be done.
It sucks, but it happens. I've had phones die and I had no choice but to go out and buy a new one. It's the risk we take when tripping Knox.
Why don't you provide us with more details...:/ For example which model phone you have (920F/I/T/V/A/etc.) Bootloop means you soft bricked it afaik.
In this case use ODIN 3.10.7 and take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/project-zero-pac-firmware-pit-file-t3181133
1. Put phone in download mode + open odin ( = the phone is detected aye?)
2. Extract the FAC firmware you downloaded (if i am right it's 1 .tar file and if there are multiple you put modem in CP, bootloader in BL and phone in AP)
3. in AP put the right FAC firmware from the thread mentioned above, if its just 1 .tar file (use G920FXXU2BOG8_G920FOXX2BOG9_XEO_PAC.zip if you have the 920F)
4. In the tab "pit" select the pit file you downloaded for your device; e.g. 920F = G920F_EUR_OPEN_HIDDEN150M.pit
5. Start odin and let it succesfully finish
6. let phone reboot.. it will be on the samsung logo for maybe 10 min?

This is the message i get from Smart Switch when trying to flash stock android from the program.
Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, and I know there've been similar posts before, but I'm completely new to all of this. I tried to flash my phone but it didn't work, and now it seems I've bricked it. I can get onto the Samsung splash screen, and I can get to the odin screen by holding power home and vol down. I'm trying to use odin v3.10.7 to flash a stock 5.1.1 firmware I got from sammobile but it keeps failing right at the very end. I'm not sure what to do. I have a SM-G920F, from the UK on EE (T-mobile/Orange). If anyone could help me I'd be really greatful.
Flash BTU firmware, your hidden.img is probably what is failing because you need a pit file. Download the BTU, it is unbranded UK firmware.

Turn off your phone, and then turn it on pressing and holding Volume Up, Home, and Power button at the same time until you see a warning. Then press Volume Up to continue, and navigate using volume keys and select wipe cache/factory reset with the Home button, then reboot.
Please note that by doing this all your data will be lost.

So I've flashed it with the BTU and it worked but its in a boot cycle now, was that meant to happen?

Go into recovery (Volume UP, Home Button and Power button) keep pressing them until you get the blue writing saying 'RECOVERY'.
Then go and wipe everything (factory reset), also clear cache if you want to. Then press reboot now. Then it should work

Just done this and its still doing what its just been doing :/
What do you mean by a boot cycle, try and re-flash but this time ticking the delete all option in Odin. After it re-flashes, try and see if it does anything unusual before it starts to go to the 'Samsung' boot animation. After about 5 mins, if it doesn't boot, then go into recovery and do a factory reset. If all that doesn't work, i'll help you flash a PIT file, to get your EE Branded Stock ROM working.
And don't worry, this all happened to me.

So when I turn it on I get the Samsung boot logo, but then it just goes black unless I hold the power button, then it'll boot into the logo again, but that's about as far as I can get it. While its trying to boot the LED is blue (not sure if that matters or not). Just reflashing with erase everything. Thanks a lot for the help I really appreciate it.
It passed Odin. Then it boot into recovery

No problem, and just a heads up, if this doesn't work than do this:
Download THIS PIT file. Go into your PIT section on your ODIN, than open this file. Then WITH the PIT file, make sure you load up your EE Branded Firmware. Make sure re-partion is checked as that is the PIT file
If from there it still fails, than flash THIS PIT file, then do the steps again. The reason I am asking you to flash 2 PIT files, is that I had this EXACT problem, and one of these PIT files saved me, but I don't know which one :/
Good Luck!!

Thank you I think the EE firmware was the one that was failing yesterday. Does that matter?

If the BTU firmware works, than forget the EE firmware. (Try to factory reset if it still does not boot)
If not then do the steps above. (And no, the PIT file fixes the EE Firmware)
By the way, be warned when using the PIT file, make sure re-partion is checked WHEN you put in your PIT file.

Doesn't seem to be working.. First PIT seems to have fixed VIR (ee) firmware, but still not fully booting for whatever reason.

Thats weird... Could you try to get a video or a series of pictures, with one for every event that happens when the phone boots. And is your KNOX tripped? If you don't know about it, you probably haven't rooted anytime.

Yeah my KNOX is tripped. Do I have to unlock a bootloader or anything? When I originally tried to put new firmware on it, I just connected it to ODIN and uploaded the new firmware into CP and pressed start, didn't do anything else. Yeah I'll try to get a video but it might have to be tomorrow that I send you it. Do you want it in an email?

Just managed to do a quick crappy video with the laptop webcam, basically just a black screen and then it boots into the splash page but thats about it. Repeats every minute or so. https://youtu.be/1YvYUWpmALc

Since you have your KNOX tripped, try to flash TWRP and click the little button in the bottom middle, it will bring like a log, if you see any writing thats RED and says something like 'Unable to mount ....' than you might be in a bigger problem (for me the problem was fixed by flashing a PIT file). BUT if it doesn't say that, just click wipe then factory reset, than reboot. If it says 'No OS Installed' than you probably flashed the files incorrectly, but it shouldn't really say that.
I don't mind if you want to send a video to my email, if you want you can just show pictures, it'll probably be easier.
Good luck
