I am very new to Android coming from Palm Pre and I purchased Droid Pro and activated it with Page Plus everything seems to work fine except I can't receive or can't send any plain text messages any kind. I haven't been able to receive or send any ever since I got this activated. I have tried everything I could.
I did activation multiple times and still no luck! I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. I really love this phone and it works great including web data, calls but the stupid text messages will not work at all.
As soon as I send a text message I get an instant error message saying text message not sent and it does that for every message. This is just driving me insane since I text more than I talk.
I am getting close to my last resort is the reset this phone to factory which I don't know how to do. My brother uses Droid 2 Global and Fascinate on Page Plus Wireless with no problems. I tried calling multiple sources and no one is willing to help me.
Please help me if you can.
Anybody here know what I can do? I am so frustrated. I know I am missing text messages right now. I hate to go back to Palm... and this is the only Android phone from Verizon that I like so far. I love the keyboard but without being able to send or receive text messages this thing would be worthless for me. I text more than I talk.
This are just random guesses, but i thought i would try:
- wrong sms format (UTF-8?)
- wrong number/address for sms central in settings?
Fixed!!!
After days of fighting with it I got it figured out by process of elimination. For Page Plus Wireless under "Wireless & Network Settings" > "Mobile Networks" > "Network Mode" - needs to be set to "GLOBAL" and not "CDMA" like I thought and after this all my text messages are working properly.
This may be useful to someone later on.
Now if I can get rid of all the bloatware that this Droid Pro came with without rooting I would be very excited. I love this phone so far even though I am missing the true multi-tasking but I am sure I will get used to. I am already getting used to Android and it's only been a few days
Root it and change build.prop
change in system/build.prop
ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc = 0
This will solve sms problems

Hello,
I am looking to send a rather long text message of about 3,300 characters to a person who I can only reliably reach via text message at this time. I realize that SMS stands for Short Message Service, and 3,300 characters is by no means short, but please understand that if there was a better way to send this message to this person, I would choose that method instead. I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile, and the standard Messaging application allows me to type up to 2,000 characters for an SMS message. So, my first thought was to just break the message up into two segments of about 1,650 characters each and send them as two separate messages consecutively. This would be fine, however I realized something else. Messages over about 160 characters are broken up into multiple messages on some carriers, meaning that even if I broke my message up into two large segments of 1,650 characters each, it may still be broken up further into multiple smaller segments when sent to the recipient. As you could imagine, I would rather not have the recipient be inundated with 20 or so separate text messages at once, unless they would only receive one notification instead of 20 separate ones.
To give some background, my intended recipient has an iPhone, though I don't know what carrier they use (if that matters in how messages get broken up). One other possibility was to send two MMS messages of 1,650 characters each instead, but would that be split up into multiple 160-character fragments, as well? Also, even if MMS messages do not get split up like this, would my recipient be able to receive such a large MMS message (containing just text)?
Please feel free to suggest any solutions to this problem or any alternatives. I would e-mail this person, instead, but I have no idea how frequently they check their e-mails and I feel as though sending this over text message is the best way to quickly communicate this to them and ensure that they actually receive it. Thanks in advance for any help!

This may sound obvious but why not email the long message and then text them and tell them to check their email?
Otherwise a long message is usually converted to an mms if it is very long.

I'm thinking that this may just be my best option, although I'd prefer to send it directly to their phone. However, this is not a complete necessity.
I am curious, though, about MMS. Would just sending my message broken up into a few text-only MMS messages run into any potential problems? I don't know much about the iPhone and the reliability of sending and receiving MMS messages from Android to iPhone or from T-Mobile to another network, but is sending multiple MMS messages rather unreliable? I suppose I could always request a delivery report on each MMS message to see if they were received successfully, but I also wonder how reliable delivery reports are. What do you think about this? Thanks.
What are you composing from? Why not make a pdf and mms it? Or a jpg?
Every time I try to send a text message, weather its just a text message or a text message with a picture attachment it will not go threw. It just stills their, then either says "Failed to Send" or it says "Retrying" . So far I really find this new Hang outs rather annoying. Do you have to modify something in your phone settings for this to work? I'm on Tmobile. The person I am sending it to, has an Iphone 5 and is on Sprint.
Is your phone newly activated? How long has this persisted?

I also have the N5 on T-mobile. Earlier today i couldn't send any SMS to a person, nor reply to group threads. Maybe there was something with their servers? It was really aggravating me. I thought it was the phone.
Are your APN settings incorrect? If they are, your picture messages will never go thru properly because of improper phone setup. I had this issue until I realized I had mistyped a character in the APN settings. Once I corrected it, everything worked fine.
Hi, I am in The Netherlands with a simple (???) Alcatel Pixi 4 5 (5" screen) which is OK, but just recently I have started getting message that the bottom of the screen if I try to make a text or open an incoming text message, it says "Permission denied - you can change this in Apps" I am using a Dut T Mobile prepay sim and it has been checked by both T mobile shops and that is fine (i can make and receive phone calls on the Pixi phone) but I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING relating to this problem, I am at the end of my wits thinking how I can get the SMS working again, the SMS service number is correct for the Tmobile SMS text settings. It is a complete mystery why this banner keeps appearing, I cannot open ANY of the texts I have received. T mobile says the problem lies with the phone and nothing to do with their Sim card. Can anyone help?? as the banner says "can be altered in Apps" but doesnt tell you what app or how to set it to get the SMS messages working again. HELP!! total LAPTOPDUNCE

Go to system settings>apps>messaging app, select it, next, select its permissions, set its permissions to access everything it needs to work.

thanks for that!! NC BUT!!!
Hi NC, thanks for that but where are the "system settings" on this phone, is it the settings on the middle lower button, where "settings " looks like a big cog? because when I go into the Apps from there I get a heading "all apps, and it gives me messaging then when I click on that I get the "permissions" (contacts, phone and SMS) so I click on that and I get "messaging" as the main heading and then in a column, cotnacts, Phone, SMS and storage, I have allowed the permissions on the "contacts, phone and SMS" but leave the storage one not permission granted, NOW!! If I open the three little dots in the topr right hand corner next to App Permissions it brings up all permissions and then I get a long long list of all the difeerent persmission, like "read your contacts" modify your contackts, Ph,> Driectly call phone number, read phone status and identify, SMS (sub heading) receive text messages (SMS)m, Receive Text messages (MMS), Send SMS messages, Read your Text messsages (SMS), Receive text messages (WAP) - when I touch all of these headings a window comes up saying "allows the app to receive and process SMS messages, This means the app could monitor or delete messages sent to your device without showing them to you. - and then OK at the bottom right, so I have just clicked OK on all of these headings, but after all this I am STILL getting the banner coming up with Permissions Denied - you can change them in Settings > apps. So this has become an absolute nightmare!! I just dont know what to do!!

Try settings>apps>(whatever keyboard app you have or are using), check it's permissions.
Go to settings>languages and input, make sure you have the correct keyboard selected and and configured how you want.
Make sure you aren't having an issue with "overlays", you can disable overlays if you need to. I'm not sure how to do that on your device model number/ROM/firmware.

Hi, andoroid keyboard
Hi, I have looked at the keyboard I am using and it is the Ancdroid keyboard, I went into apps and looked at the app permissions, it says Anroid keyboard (AOSP) and the subheadings "contacts" and "storage" were unchecked for permissions so I have enabled them, AGAIN I am still getting the banner permissions denied, this is a real pain, I feel like throwing this phone away! I dont understand what overlays are, the problem wtih these fu77ing things are that they SO DAMNED COMPLICATED you have to be a rocket scientist to understand them!! I HATE THESE things!! the phone part says that is it running firmware 6.0-01005 android and its a model 5010D running android 6 it says its a kernel version 3.18.19+ and is build number 01005, all this is like chinese to me!!
I do have another of these pixi phones in the UK, if I switch the sim card to that one do you think it will work? I have the Alcatatel U5 for my UK phone and thats just perfect, it lasts for ages on the battery and it switches from EE in England (prepay) to T mobile automatically when I have it with me in Nederland (travelling alot between The Nethelands and England) thanks laptopdunce
overlays
I have got a feeling it could be this file manager or overlays that is causing this problem, as there is a banner that comes up at the top of the phone when I turn it on, and alittle octopus that comes down from the top of the screen (that I have no idea what it is for) the Clean banner starts when I turn the phone on and has clean, boost, wifi, app manager and updat on it and folders underneath with folders, clean, boost, flashpight, screenshot and camera in blue underneath, I dont know how this thing started it didnt used to be there, this is what I DESPISE about these bloody things, they just appear for no reason!! Do you think doing a factory reset will stop it?? I only have some photos that I can back up on this phone, no special docs or anything like like, there isnt even an SD card in the phone. Oh, its such a damned pain, thanks laptopdunce

Yeah, it sounds like something you have installed somewhere. Backup what you want to keep and factory reset. If it is something that you installed, that will get rid of it.

OK will try that tomorrow, I have had the Dutch T mobile forum on to me to tell me to try the simcard in another phone to see if it is the simcard that is damaged, I dont have another phone here with me, and I cant see how the Sim card can be damaged as I can make calls through it and T mobile tell me that they can see my credit and details on the SIM card, I will try the factory reset tomorrow and get back to you, I cant imagine how I could have downloaded something, as I looked on youtube for these "remove Overlay" vids but when I do that I dont get the window coming up in google play store permissions saying "you have an overlay running" but there are things showing that were not there when I first got the phone only last month. Its only a phone to stay in contact with people I have never used it on wifi except when connected to my laptop router at home. Will let you know what happens tomorrow, thanks laptopdunce
Just one extra thing, should I take out the SIM card from the Alcatel phone before doing the factory reset? thanks laptopdunce
