I've read a lot about the custom ROM's and I'm interested in installing one.
The reason I don't do it is because there isn't a detailed step by step tutorial out there.
They are all missing some steps.
So could someone write a step by step tutorial without leaving Anything out. If there's a really detailed tutorial then a lot more newbies like me will start installing custom ROM's.
So what I mean is a step by step tutorial starting from the stock android.
Is there someone willing to write it?
Thx in advance

8. power off your phone.now press volume down+home+power on buttons together.Your phone will boot in download mode.

Hi all - I'm very new to all this, but I've been trying to research and read up on everything. I believe I have the rooting process down, but I'm just so nervous about flashing CM7. I don't want to brick!
Is it basically the same as flashing any other custom rom? Or are there any other specific steps involved when flashing CM7? I just want to make sure I do everything correctly. I've looked but really the only step by step guide I can find is wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Thunderbolt:_Full_Update_Guide, but it has some different steps in the rooting process such as downgrading and s-off. This is the rooting guide I was following forum.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/72524-procedure-how-root-thunderbolt-adb-windows.html.
Just confused on what steps to follow. Thanks in advance for any help!
I followed this one: www .androidpolice .com/ 2011/ 03/ 19/ exclusive-how-to-root-the-htc-thunderbolt-and-unlock-its-bootloader / (sorry for the spaces) which basically looks like the same thing as the wiki link you sent.. but perhaps formatted a bit better.
After that, I installed rom manager, downloaded the current cm7 build (and gapps from rom manager), and flashed it. .. I did later go back to upgrade my radio the the 402w version, as that seemed to help with some stability issues.
Right now cm7 is *mostly* stable for me.. I get some oddness after a day or so of uptime.. suddenly the phone thinks it's in angola.. the only way I can clear that boot into recovery and wipe the cache. I've also had issues in launchpro where the non-launcher pro widgets seem to get corrupted and not load after a power off/power on (although no problem with a reboot....)
Lots of people complain about the 4g support although that's not so much of a concern for me (I don't live in a 4g area.. I bought the phone for development, I needed something with a better camera then the motorolas).
Hi everybody, first post on this forum!
I'm sitting here with a GT-I7100 and was reading alot about the ARHD 9.2 ROM, which I'd like to try. However, I feel like I've entered a giant jungle with only a little nail scissor as my only tool. I've read countless of threads regarding bricking and only god knows what. I'm still convinced (bricking aside) I'd like to install a new ROM, and the ARHD 9.2 install instructions (found here) are extremely easy to follow. I am now wondering if it really is this easy, or if every single ROM developer on this forum expects you to have some software already installed on the phone for a ROM flash to succeed?
I'm at the moment running the stock software as configured by Samsung out of the box. Are there any steps I have to take before following the (oh so easy) install instructions found in the ARHD 9.2 thread? If so, where can I read more about them - and are there any guides with simple step-by-step instructions which explanes each and every step? The amount of terms I've found on these forums are overwhelming, and I therefore feel the need for a thread like this.
EDIT:
After even more reserach, I've managed to convert all of the above to a few steps, which I hope are correct.
1) ROOT using CF-Auto-Root (thread instructions here)
2) Install ClockwokMod ROM Manager and then let it flash Clockwork Mod Recovery by itself)
3) Backup current ROM using CWM and then continue to follow the instructions found in the ARHD 9.2 thread.
4) Install Triangle Away to reset the flash number.
5) Have fun!
Is it this "simple" or are there steps I've missed, still? Please tell me, since i'm not sure about this one, really.
Also, do you still need to root the phone using step 1) or will CWM do it for you aswell?
NEW EDIT:
Found this thread which explains all required steps in detail.
This thread can therefore be closed, thanks.

I have successfully rooted two devices using xda forums. Just make sure you read on past the tutorials. Most of the time you will find valuable information on what errors other users encountered and so on. Once you start flashing rom's it's hard to stop.
Recently purchased a tablet and looking for rooting and mod, thanks
No neee to worry... simply keep backup everytime...
I have rooted my n8013, but every time I try to install a rom it "freezes". I purchased ROM Manager, but whenever I check the download roms there is on a small section with nightlies...I thought for $6 I would get a list of all available roms...was I wrong?
I did download Android Revolution 9.0 and CM 10.2, I added them to my tablet, I disconnected the tablet from the PC. I then booted to recovery with ROM Manager. I managed to get Android Revolution to the point of installing google apps, but it froze, I couldn't click anything or do anything. I tried to redownload and reinstall it on the tablet but it just freezes at random points in the installation.
I have tried to install CM 10.2...twice and both times it just sits at CyanogenMod loop (Blue circle with 2 spinning "wheels" going in opposite directions). I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but this is the hardest time I have ever had rooting & installing a rom. I am no pro and I don't understand all of the lingo, could someone please either help me, or point me to a step by step guide?
Thanks!

I followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIYiXzcW7xs
I then followed this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102677 for the recovery.
Now I have actually managed to get CM 10.2 to work, but I cannot figure out the Gapps. I downloaded them to my pc and tried to put them on the tablet but there is no program that can open them (or so the tablet says). I could go poking around, but I don't want to break anything so I figured I would just wait for a response.
I was actually debating on doing a complete wipe and starting back at square 1. Then following this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 But that just seems like to much work, I have a feeling I am very close to being done and I and want to start all over.
I wanted to get Revolution to work but it wants to fight with me so whatever.

Did you read the special notes in the Revolution HD rom site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547 In the you need section it says that you need the Custom recovery by "High On Android" Then there is a section on the same page that tells you how to flash. You need to follow the directions exactly.
Don't know if you know this but the directions on the 1st video put the CWM recovery on the tablet and then when you did the 2nd video you over wrote that CWM recovery that Revolution HD is compatible with and the one you installed is not recommended by Revolution HD.
I had Revolution HD on when I was rooted and I liked it....... If it were me...... I would return to factory rom........ then follow the exact directions in the first video........
Then follow the directions on the Revolution HD site link I sent you.
Curious......... why are you rooting? What do you want that factory rom does not have?

The reason I want to root is because..well..I want to learn. I cannot learn just by reading, I have to do hands on..I have to actually try it before I can learn it. I am so fascinated by tablets and android that I could sit here tinker and poking around for hours. Another reason I want to root is because I have read that rooting can improve battery life, and that samsungs touch wiz is "buggy". I have noticed that at times things don't seem to work as they should be (buggy, glitchy, choppy).
I was unaware that I flashed over cwm. How do I return it to factory rom and start all over?
Thanks for the help btw, I really appreciate it.

I followed his guide on how to unroot. I made it to step 9 before it said that it had failed. Once I tried to reboot the tablet it said
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issues. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I downloaded Kies but it wouldn't connect to the tablet.
I did find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311507
I am stopping before I break it even further. Any advice?

Big big problem with that is you are far more likely to end up with a brick .
As the posts shows you are not hands on as you have failed to read the instructions and have to resort to asking users to tell you what those instructions you failed to read are .
Rooting cannot improve battery life .

What firmware number did you download and what country do you reside.
Are you using an official Samsung data charging cable and did you purchase the tablet new?
Are you using a usb extension cable?
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
When you plug the tablet into your computer is it recognized?

First, from my research that was just a Soft Brick..so not a big big problem.
Second hands on means you learn as you go..I am learning as I go, trial and error. Some people learn better by reading, some people learn better by doing. I am the one who learns better by doing. I have rooted a few other tablets with zero issues. I managed to figure out what was wrong BY MY SELF....trial and error. So your statement about me having to resort to asking users to tell me what those instructions are, I followed the instructions on how to unroot...they are what caused me to soft brick.
According to Mike1986 at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
In the ROM Details, it says Excellent Battery Life.
According to http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-revolution-hd-rom-on-omega-rom-on-galaxy-note-10-1-gt-n8000n8010n8013/
As for the battery life, it is far better that what you get with stock ROM on your Note 10.1.

I managed to figure out what the problem was. The firmware link that is posted by Max is for the galaxy note 2. I am not sure if thats just old or what. I went to samfirmware and I downloaded one and I reset the tablet to factory setting.

There is a bad link in the printed directions but you should always go directly to samfirmware for the latest firmware updates.
I hope you know that you nearly bricked your device, it is a must to read and follow directions that are posted exactly.
I hope you know that CM 10.2 will take away S-Pen function.
Max has ROM reviews on his site for most of the popular ones.
As your just starting I would stick with videos that show you how to install roms for your specific device. And if you choose to root again after you do so the next step would be to do a full backup in CWM recovery to a microsd card so if you run into problems you can always restore back to that point.
Good luck

I was actually looking at some of those roms, and I checked through Max's videos, he did reviews of them but doesn't show how to install them. This is where I got confused. I would love to find a tutorial that goes step by step through it. I also did have CM 10.2 on the tablet, I was still able to use the pen. Which is all I really want, I bought the note 10.1 for the specs (2gb of ram). As for the pen, I pretty much just use it for drawing and for selecting small fonts and links.
The 2nd video I posted seems very easy, I just don't know if I need to follow Max's root first, or if I can just follow the 2nd video from start to finish. I am thinking that I need to root again, and then follow the 2nd video.
Do you have a rom that you recommend? and a video tutorial that I should follow?

You are on your own....... I'm not making any recommendations. I have rooted and unrooted many times but I keep going back to stock and that is were I'm staying. lately I have seen a bunch of post like yours with rooting problem and bricking or soft bricking.
If you still want to install a custom ROM your better off going to each roms page under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development and read up on them.
Good luck.

Hi im just new in this kind of stuffs and i dont know where to start.
Base on others said that its better to use custom rom than miui
I am afraid that i might brick my phone thats why i afraid to do it.
Im currenty playing wild rift and so far, for the past weeks im experiencing FPS drop which is so annoying.
So whats the most stable custom rom you can recomend?
and just in case something wrong happened. can i still revert it back to miui?
any topic or thread you can link in comments would be really appreciated.
thanks
I haven't done that for long so I can't give you an accurate answer, but if you brick your phone you should be able to unbrick it using Mi FlashTool. Example here: https://www.technobuzz.net/xiaomi-unbrick-guide. I've never had completely bricked a phone even though I did take very very bad decisions. And yes custom roms are lighter than MIUI. Try to find a step by step tuto.
so where should i start?
any thread you can link?
Some will say this is outdated, but I still find it a good starting point: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4196271/ (especially this step-by-step guide: https://telegra.ph/How-to-install-Poco-x3-ROM-10-14; unless your preferred ROM developer tells you otherwise -- if unsure, always follow dev instructions).
After that, you could maybe proceed with the Index: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4176491/.

custom rom don't destroy/brick your fone, its
a) wrong kernel or right kernel taken from unpopular source (telegram groups etc)
b) flashing error due to cable or otg failure!
where to start?
1. download miui unlocker, on windows pc/laptop
2. from developer option miui12, link miui account (which you must've already signed in to, )
3. don't use wifi, use 4g sim to link account in developer options
4. shutdown device and goto fastboot mode by pressing volume downd+power button for 10+ seconds untill u see fastboot and BOT
5. runn miui unlocker and attach cable, sign in to your miui account. it will verify and give you one week waiting time! , DONOT TOUCH ANYTHING IN THE SETTINGS OR MIUI ACCOUNT NOW. after one week, unlock the device (take backup before)
6. flash recovery
7. flash rom ( i would suggest RR8.0 or HAVOC) , if you want android 11, then go for Crdroid!
8. flash google apps / or nick apps IF the rom doesn't have it!
9. keep oem firmware 90mb file handy! sometimes o translate programming language the script requires latest Fw. , you can download it from xiaomifirmwaredownloader site!
10. flash magisk if you want rooted poco
11. reboot!
