Sim unlocking question - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I just bought an Alcatel Onetouch idol 3, from my Romanian provider(Vodafone), as I saw in other threads over here, everyone's talking about sim unlocking on websites, but my question is..
Is there any way to unlock the sim via bootloader, or flashing another firmware ?
Thank you

I also tought of the next way:
Unlock bootloader via WinDroid, gain the supercid, then use the windows update utillity to make an firmware update to an unlocked firmware
What you think ?

No one has reported on this forum to my knowledge a successful sim unlocking from a provider purchased idol 3. Here in USA it comes out unlocked from Amazon. I think you are confusing bootloader and sim unlock because I know of no "firmware" method of sim unlocking short of having the unlock code....although I certainly could be wrong Since you have only so many tries the best method is get your provider to give you the unlock code. Here in the USA you can get one from your provider if your account is in good standing and it's been 90 days since your last request. Most folks tell them they are going overseas and want to be able to use the phone....something similar might work for you?.

I went to my provider, and checked it there, the unlocking code was 60e, because the contract was still available, anyway..
I went to a GSM, and the guy took me 10e to unlock it xD

Will flashing an AT&T tilt with the HTC ROM unlock it from the network

I am curious if flashing my AT&T tilt with the HTC software will allow me to use a sim card from another carrier. Has anyone tried this?

Nope. Find something/someone/someway to SIM unlock phone. Not possible as of yet. ROM flashing will work only after you CID unlock your phone, which means you can flash different ROMs onto your phone than originally suppied.
Some post couple days ago talk about how to sim unlock already, just search for it and call the att number on there, it work for me.

haha, yeah, for some reason i never think to call up At&t for anything... i'm sure you can lie to your provider so they will give you the unlock code (at least until enough people use the same story verbatim to where they realize that it must be posted some discussion board as to how to get sim unlocked....)
I am still somewhat confused as to the unlocking aspect.
I know I can obtain the SIM unlock code for the Tilt from AT&T. Are you saying that it is still impossible to CID unlock the phone, once this has been done?

SIM unlocking and CID unlocking are two different things.
CID unlocking allows you to use OS ROMs from other variants of the same hardware. i.e. HTC TyTn II ROM on a Tilt. CID unlocking can be done easily with HardSPL.
SIM unlocking allows you to use SIMs other than your carrier's. Right now the only way to get a Tilt SIM-unlocked is to get an unlock code from AT&T, or to purchase an unlock code from someone else (who is probably just abusing an "insider" within AT&T to feed them unlock codes.). Flashing an alternative radio ROM can remove a SIM lock, but from a few posts I have read, it is going to be much more difficult/take much longer for our enterprising hackers to figure out how to flash an unsigned radio ROM and have it actually boot, apparently the radio bootloader now does an integrity/signing check against the ROM and will only boot signed carrier ROMs.
Well then I'm still going to call ATT tomorrow for the sim Unlock (heading to japan in a month) but, from what your saying does that mean i can go ahead and flash my phone using HardSPL to HTC stock? or do i need to have sim unlock first regardless what i do?
I understand it's encrypted. But what happens if you dump the radio rom from a tytnii and flash it onto a 8925?

Don't think it'll work. I think that the ROM has to be signed until the bootloader gets cracked. Not sure. If it worked, we would've heard about it and it would be in all the FAQs.
I wonder how it works though. Definitely am not knowledgeable enough about this yet, but upgrades have come out in the past for older phones. It wouldn't change the lock state though. Why is that? If there's a way to corrupt it and then flash back the original? Are there any signed radio roms out?
What exactly happens when you flash an unsigned one? Brick or just no radio?

Can you let me know how it goes with the call to AT&T? I'm going to HK in December and will call AT&T soon. I want to wait a little before calling since I just got the phone last week.
No worries. Tell them just that. You'll be off the phone within 5 minutes. No hassle at all compared to when I called to get my nokia 6682 unlocked a year ago. Just make sure you call international support

Hello,
I am very new to this so please forgive me. I did some searches but was unable to find anything complete. So is there any complete tutorial on how i can CID unclock and flash an AT&T Tilt with Dutty_s_TouchFlo_Final_Rom
Thank you

[Q] Can i update my firmware to 2.20

Hi Guys
Sorry for asking the same old question again..
I just got my AT&t HTC One x from US shipped over to India by my cousin.
It is locked to AT&t and i am unable to use a local network sim in it
I know i need to root it and turn S-off in order to unlock it.
The phone is on Firmware 1.85? and i have tried the ways mentioned in xda to root it but i guess when i click "Check for updates" it doesn't work.
So my question is
Can i manually by connecting the phone to Computer, update firmware to 2.20 so that i can root it that way?
And is it possible to unlock the BOOTLOADER w/out rooting so that phone gets unlocked to other carriers?
please help me out guys i have tried everything to make it work.. thank you
Unlocking the bootloader/rooting/dancing in circles WILL NOT sim unlock the phone.
You will need to use an online sim unlocking service (usually about 20 bucks) to get the unlock code
Currently, S-Off has not been achieved for this phone. And as already mentioned, bootloader unlock will not get you SIM unlock, and no free hack/mod method currently exists. You either need to use a paid unlock service, or if your cousin is currently an AT&T account holder, he can ask AT&T for the SIM unlock code (he will need the IMEI number of the phone, and maybe other info).
If you want root and unlocked bootloader for other reasons (flashing custom ROMs and other mods) there is no reason to upgrade to 2.20. Root method exists for 1.85. You need to root, SuperCID, then unlock the bootloader. Then you can install a custom recovery and flash custom ROMs.
Upgrading to 2.20 is not recommended. The 2.20 RUU will upgrade your hboot, which plugs the holes by which kernels and radios can be flashed from recovery. You will have to flash the boot.img separately every time your flash a ROM. No benefit to updating to 2.20, and actually lose ability to do some things.
If you still want root and bootloader unlock, refer to my index for links to root methods, etc.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
And no, bootloader unlock is not possible without root (temp root in case of 2.20) on the AT&T One X.

Thank you for a detailed answer. The reason i though it would unlock the sim was cause i had used other htc phones earlier and when you root them the S-off was achieved so thats why.. anyhow.. thank you for enlightening my dumb bum.
You're not dumb. Just ignorant. Now you have been enlightened. You still have a great phone, you just might have to pay a little bit so you can unlock and use it

The word "ignorant" has always sounded like a pejorative word to me. But I had to look up the definition, figuring maybe I don't really know the literal meaning of the word. Which turned out to be the case. One of the definitions of ignorant is "Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular" which seems to exactly fit this situation. I guess I gave myself the English lesson for the day!
Every phone is different, and HTC in particular is always changing around their security measures. So the OP is not dumb in any way, but was just missing some particular pieces of information.

Xperia Z3 D6616 SIM unlock or Custom firmware

hi
i am having my Xperia Z3 D6616 idle for more than 5 months, meaning? its not sim unlocked. actually unable to unlock it. i did not know that t-mob disabled the SIM unlock code pop up in their phones.
i am not in US right now so unable to unlock the phone as i bought from ebay as new. totally fed up with this situation.
i am tried all over the forum and waited log time to get the root, i felt it will be unlocked after then. but unfortunately rooting did not shed any light on unlocking possibility.
so far
1. D6616 cannot be Sim unlocked without Tmob support
2. No custom firmwares.
3. will not boot if international Firmware flashed via flashtool. or flashing pre rooted zips.
4. its known that it the boot loader cannot be unlocked.
i am looking for D6603 firmware ported to D6616 so that we can flash into recovery and get the sim unlock code Pop up to Enter the unlock code.
or anyway how to port the simunlock app from international D6603 FW to make it work on D6616.
I saw and tried HTC one M9 T mob sim unlocking method and it worked on HTC one M9. (the link is below) is it possible can we follow the same method to unlock the D6616 also.
looks like T-Mob disable sim unlock pop up in their phone to restrict the user to unlock as they wish.
link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/sim-unlock-method-t3143333
i request some developer help how to get this done. i believe they are so generous and helpful. at least some guides on how to make it.

I'm facing the same problem, all servers are down indefinitely. One guy also found if your phone never were used or registered in T-mobile network, can't be registered as elegible to unlock, this is my worst problem, I'm outside of USA with brand new expensive phone . If some one found any other solution to unlock, I'll appreciate the information
Unlock service is up.
Now we can unlock xperia Z3 with t mobile app,
The service is up. I bought the unlock service from cellphoneunlock.net
This service cost 50$, but this is the only option for D6616. Time will 3-6 days. I unlocked two of my D6616 after years

not that I believe in pay for those type of services. but I have a z3v and am in a similar position. I was wondering if you could check if your bootloader unlockable status has changed from no to yes or how can u flash stock z3 firmware with only a sim unlock.

This has nothing to do with the bootloader, it is for unlocking the sim only. The z3v is alread SIM unlocked, but, like the T-Mobile d6616, the bootloader is locked and likely to stay that way.

Unlocking bootloader on ebay purchased TMobile 7 Pro

Thinking of buying one of these and want to clarify the process of unlocking the bootloader. From the ebay seller he says it is a T-Mobile phone but is sim unlocked already. He says I will have to contact oneplus to get the bootloader unlock code/token. I don't really want to wait the forty days or whatever I heard it was but it's ok as long as I can definitely get it unlocked eventually and won't be stuck for some reason with a locked bootloader. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I've ran across two of your posts asking the same question. I had done the same thing as you. I bought an eBay sim unlocked op7p. At first I flashed the international firmware to just bypass the whole tmobile bootloader unlock. It worked in the sense that I was able to unlock the bootloader, however I had no service and the phone would not detect my sim (Cricket). I tried another sim with the same results. I had to use the msm tool and flash back to tmobile stock firmware in order for it to work with my sim.
I sent in my request for an unlock token and received it in 7 days. I think the 40 days is only for brand new phones. I would submit the unlock token request and go that route. YMMV, you may very well be able to flash the international software and just bypass it. I didn't have that luck. The 7 day wait wasn't so bad. Hope this helps.

That's good to know that I can get the unlock token if needed. So TMobile doesn't care who you are or that you don't have a T-Mobile account or live in US obviously then?

The unlock code comes from OnePlus. I only had to wait the week and the received an email with a link to download the unlock_code.bin file. To answer your question, not to my knowledge.

I think I may be in the same boat. After fighting with msm I finally got it to flash the international firmware but nowjiy doesn't detect my sim. So you went back to Tmobile software and got the token to unlock but once you did that did you switch back to international or custom ROMs?

I have not flashed back to international because I couldn't get the phone to detect my sim even after updating the international firmware.
I would however recommend that once you flash back to TMobile (using msm) that you do the OTA (settings>system>check for updates)
Currently I'm running unlocked and rooted via magisk. I'd like to flash a custom rom (looking at resurrection) but they say to flash the international rom to both slots first (via recovery like twrp) and I'm not sure if that would cause the sim issue again. I haven't had time to ask about it (if I can flash straight from tmo stock rooted to a custom rom like resurrection). So unfortunately I don't have the best answer there. You may ask around in some of the custom rom threads about just flashing straight from the TMobile stock firmware with unlocked bootloader. If you happen to find out an answer, please pm me and let me know.

Actually I was mistaken. Once I updated the international rom to Android Q my sim started working again and now I am on Bliss and sim is still working. Not sure what is going on with your sim.

can a carrier model be unlock and rooted ?

hi
i have a 7pro t mobile version. i was following a guide to unlock the bootloader and root the phone. until i downloaded oxygen updater and it says the phone cant get updates, had to stop. so. can the phone be unlock?
then I can continue with the guide on how to root it,
or my options are limited here ?
thanks
The SIM unlock aspect needs to be done with the T-Mobile unlock tool built into the stock firmware. Bootloader unlocking can be attained by Flashing international firmware via MSM-- then unlocking as if it were international. However, that will result in the SIM still being restricted to T-Mobile if it has not been SIM-unlocked
Edit: Bootloader can also be unlocked with the T-Mobile software installed, a request can be submitted through 1+ to have a file emailed to you, containing an unlock file to be used while on carrier firmware, called an Unlock Token. However, this process will take a week for 1+ to review, and approve if applicable.
