Hey everyone... I've got a Nexus 6 I use for work and unfortunately we don't have an Exchange Server to globally sync calendars. The only workaround is to manually sync Outlook with my phone via USB on my work computer. Because I don't know what the best solution/software for this solution could be, I welcome any suggestions. Thank you in advance!

The best app depends on your needs as there are a few good sync apps out there. For me, I use AkrutoSync because I wanted wireless sync without the cloud. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice on AkrutoSync! I've never heard of this program but it looks like this will be just the thing I was looking for. My core need is to sync my calendar from Outlook's local file housed on my computer.
Going to try it out for 7 days and report back my findings... :good:

Hi,
I just got my T-Mobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) running WM6 a couple of days ago, and I'm trying to get my contacts from my laptop to my phone. I use Thunderbird though and not outlook. The ActiveSync software tells me that I can only sync contacts if I'm using outlook on my laptop!
I can export all my contacts as a .wab file, but if WM6 uses such a file to keep contacts, then I can't find it. It just occurred to me that it might use an .xml file, but I can't find that either.
How can I get my contacts easily onto my phone? Is there some alternate software that I can use to sync?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. )
Chris
is there some reason why you can't use outlook?
People have their reasons for not using Outlook such as cost, personal preference or operating system. You can try using mail2web to do an OTA sync, but how to get from thunderbird to mail2web is up to you.
this might be of intrest to you:

Yeah, because it's really expensive, and I don't like it. I much prefer Thunderbird.

If I am not mistaken you get Outlook for free when you buy the dash. I know I got a disk with my mda, and I am pretty sure I got one for my dash as well.
actually because M$ wants money, you only get a "trial" of outlook. I just downloaded the birdiesync and it works awsome.
I use Birdiesync, its actually works pretty damn well. It integrates into Lightning very well too...
Is there a free program that functions like birdiesync? I just checked their site and it has onyl a 21 day trial.

Thunderbird can be used portably, like on a thumb drive.
If I had access to an exchange server, I wouldn't need a portable email app (except that OWA sucks donkey balls, so thunderbird is still better).
FinchSync (http://www.finchsync.com/) works for me.

I recommend the free program Funambol. I am using it to synchronize my phone and Thunderbird. It has a server program, a desktop plugin, and a phone plugin. You can set the server up on your own computer and have it sync when you are connected via USB, sync over the air to your own computer (which requires having a data plan and having an open port on your desktop machine for Funambol to connect through), or you can get a free account at my.funambol.com, which is the approach I used. It can even enable push email, fetching the email from some other email account and pushing it to the phone. I used the latter functionality for a few days, then turned it off, as having the data continuously active drained the battery pretty fast. I still use it for syncing my contacts and calendar.
I have O2 XDA, and I'm using mac,
is there any free Sync program for Mac?
thanks,
Mac Sync
Hi buddy, have a look at SyncMate, its free to use but will only sync contacts and calendar entries. If you want to sync anymore than that you will need to upgrade to the Pro version.Have a look here: http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html. Hope this helps

I got a new problem :-(
Active Sync went through, after it says, there was a problem on the desktop, nothing else.
I found out, that my calendar did not sync.
What can this be for a reason?
I am getting crazy with this active sync probs!
It´s an old problem that I have from time to time with all my WM devices.
Here is the only way to solve it:
1. Export your personal outlook folders to a new PST.
2. Go to control panel -> inbox -> data file management, add the new pst, make it default.
3. Open Outlook once and close it
4. Go back to the data file management and remove the old pst from the list.
5. Delete parthnership and resync.
good luck

OK. I tried to follow up your suggestions. I exported the pst file from Outlook but I can not follow up your further recommendations.
Can you please explain a little bit more detailled?
Thank you.
I don´t understand in what point you want more details. All those topics have do be done at your PC.

try:
control panel -> mail -> email accounts
view or change existing email accounts
next
new outlook data file
select that file in drop down box next to that button
click finish
click data files
select old pst file
click remove
The aim is to use another lokal store for your outlook data. they are stored in a file with .pst extension. you have do attach a new file and after starting and closing of outlook at your pc you have to delete the old pst-file. use the topics i´ve told. so you surely will get rid of your sync problem
does it work now?

My problem involves the fact my calendar won't sync everything from Outlook 07'. My iPhone does not have this problem. I followed the instructions stated, but this did not work for me. The appointments that aren't syncing involve series from the past, but single occurrences apparently sync. Someone please help me alleviate this issue.
Can anyone provide me some guidance on getting Exchange Sync functionality on DarchvanillaV2? Is it just an .apk I can add in?
I love the ROM...so awesome, but I really need my work email, contacts AND calendar...(unfortunately )
Thanks in advance for any help offered!
I don't have that ROM, but I think you have to use HTC Sync to get Outlook to sync. That is what I am doing....
I think you might be talking about using an exchange mail server? If you are talking about that you just select "exchange" in your mail app and enter in the info.

Thanks for the input! I'm actually looking for an apk that will make it possible. Maybe I can push HTC Sync to the ROM and it'll work?
How to transfer contacts from my Windows Live a/c to Android acc (gmail). I am purchasing an Android phone and selling off this Lumia 710. Or should I sync my Hotmail a/c in my Android phone. Will that do the job ?

Not sure you can add a Hotmail/Live account on an Android to sync it with the phone book.
It's easier just to import your hotmail contacts on your gmail account and start from there

How to import. Kindly help.
I think you actually can sync Hotmail / Windows Live to Android, but I haven't checked. In any case, there are a few ways to do the export/import; one of them is to sign into Hotmail and then find the option to export your contact list to a file. Then, sign into Gmail and find the equivalent option to import the file into your contacts. Any search engine, or the help pages for either site, can tell you how to do this.

He sounds kinda lazy,
anyway I think it is much easier to import everything straight from gmail:
https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#settings/accounts
In my opinion, Android UI is a mess, at least till Gingerbread v. 2.3, which is the most common distribution. Especially for what concern the phone book, you can add Facebook, Whatsapp, Skype, Viber etc accounts (can't find Hotmail account), and link them together (if it works!)
Hotmail contacts got Sync. Thank god. Heaving a sigh of relief. Thanks anyways guys ...

Install Outlook. com app and while entering your ID, make sure you check Sync Contacts option.

That's a rip-off, the original one is on TransferPhone.com
You can use either Gmail or Outlook app to sync contacts between Android and Windows phone.
