I've always used ROM toolbox for dpi since 2012.
It never has failed me. Obviously must be rooted.
I use a dpi of 500. Then use app settings on xposed to change phone and camera to normalize the dpi to stock so it doesn't look all weird.
Good luck

Haven't tried Rom Toolbox but with App Settings Module not working I am going to end up with stock apps that don't scale correctly....I want to change the DPI per app... not globally, otherwise the stock apps look screwy..

App settings works fine. Are you using xposed? Did you get the app settings lolipop version?

Either you didn't reboot after changing DPI "it's a bug" supposed to do it on the fly, or your xposed setup isn't right.

The stock dpi on the note 5 is perfect. It's the only dpi on any phone that I have not changed

Agree, I only moved it from 560 to 500, not a huge increase compared to 100 to other phones.

Galaxy NOTE 8 KEYBOARD - Fully Working

Here you go, Guys - the Galaxy NOTE 8 Keyboard in all its awesome glory fully working on Galaxy Note N7000 at 213 dpi and below (Phablet & Tablet UI). I have fully tested it with the English language and qwerty layout and all works fine (just one minor bug - key tap sound causes FC when enabled so you have to disable it in Language and Input Settings). It is fast with awesome HANDWRITING RECOGNITION (powered by Vision Objects), has Predictive and Swype-like functionality (powered by Swiftkey) with many languages to choose from. Perfectly-fitting layouts both in Portrait and Landscape mode. It has 3 Layouts - normal, floating and split. Personally, I only use the handwriting functionality so whether the 3 layouts are of any use to you is a matter of personal preference.
As I said, I have only tested it with the English language (qwerty) so I dont know if there are any issues with other languages. I have tested it with LSZ-based ROM so I am not sure if there are any issues with other JB versions.
How to Install:
Important: Make a backup.
1. Make sure you have an alternative keyboard - just a fallback in case of FC.
DOWNLOAD
2. Flash thru Recovery and Reboot.
3. Test it. If it FC then go to Settings>Languages and Input>Samsung Keyboard Settings>Advanced and disable Key Tap Sound (refer to photo below).
4. Enjoy.
TIP: To activate the 3-layouts, PINCH IN on the keyboard with TWO Fingers and the layout selection will come out.
THANKS to my fellow xda-ers who tested it prior to release.
first!...tested it on DXLSE and DDLSC work great!...
Feedback
Just to report about other languages, there is no issue about other languages even Chinese just need to download language of your choice. It includes ALMOST ALL languages. Smooth and fast, handwriting is wonderful. This is the best app ported from Note 8 I think.

Remember this keyboard only works on 213 dpi.
I think you didn't flash it properly.I flashed it on Rocket Rom and it works for me. You have to activate it in settings, the only problem I had was the rocket rom settings didn't support 213 dpi so I just pushed this settings to APP folder and then changed dpi to 213 by editing build.prop then reboot. I also used TW launched which supports 213 dpi from other thread of xperiacle here and cleared the cash in applications manager.

Ahh yeah okay, forgot that. Now it make sense .
Make sure you all have enough space in system before installation. I was already on eybees lsz deodex first release with setting from other Note 8 thread the one with reading mode panel.
Use rom tool box lite to change lcd density to 213.
FC .. How to fix it or how to get back the stock keyboard?
thanks for this .. i will try it!
I'm obviousy missing something here because I also flashed it and still get the stock keyboard. Any ideas anyone?

Uncheck the key tap sound, that's the only reason for fc if you are actually on 213 dpi.

[APP][Xposed] Per app DPI for all apps, Volume Skip Track, Status Bar Tweaks & more

[APP][Xposed] Per app DPI for all apps, Volume Skip Track, Status Bar Tweaks & more
Great News: Xposed Installer now supports Galaxy S4
Galaxy S4 has a nice 5 inch display. But having phoneUI in all the apps doesn't justify the screen size. With Xposed App Settings you can change layout and density of each app to tabletUI or PhabletUI whatever your preferences are.
I have tried it on Stock Rom. So it should probably work with every rooted ROM ODEX or DEODEX.
How to Install
1. Make a Nandroid Backup. (Just in case you mess up any system file)
2. Download the XposedInstaller 2.1.4 apk and install it. Launch it and grant it root permissions. Then press Install/Update button. Then reboot.
3. Download the Per App Density Setting apk and install it.
4. Launch the Xposed Framework App then in the module tab, enable the Per App Density Module. Then reboot.
5. Launch the Per App Settings app and there you can now set per app density for all apps listed.
Galaxy S4 has a default dpi of 480, So if you want phabletUI for any app then set dpi to 320-380 and layout to 800x1080. For tabletUI try dpi value from 180-240.
I have tried phabletUI for some google apps like Playstore, Gmail and Google Now. You can try various settings and keep whatever suits you best.
I will share some settings I have tried later tonight.
Note: You can also try it with Multi DPI Stock apps shared by bala_gamer.
If not using above Multi DPI apps then don't try these settings with Samsung apps. for now. You will just end up with weird layout.
More Tweaks Here: For more tweaks like volume button skip music, status bar tweaks and many many more check out this thread!! It says that its only for At & T version but I have tested it on my I9500 its working fine.
I am just sharing cool stuff I find in this forum and I don't take any responsibility for any damage to your phone. So whatever mods you apply, always make a NANDROID Backup
Thanks to rovo89 and tungstwenty for Xposed Framework and Per App Settings. And special thanks to xperiacle, I have been using his mods in my Galaxy Note and if it wasn't him then maybe I wouldn't find this amazing app.
You can also use the smiley replacer.apk with the xposed app installer

You can't just edit notification bar dpi. For that you will have to change DPI of your phone. But Stock Samsung apps won't fit properly if you change Phone's DPI. You can find more information about changing phone's DPI here

I wish there were PhabletUI Samsung apps available. But if you want to change just the dpi and not layout then read the OP. There's a link for some Multi-DPI stock apps. And for the TabletUI of stock apps lets wait for 4.2.2 updates for bigger devices like Tab, Note 10.1, Note 8 so that we can try pulling apks from them.
Installed and working fine
is it possible to change phone DPI to custom and set app specific density for samsung apps? will this kind of layout works ?
Yes I know about it im using it from SGS3 and for SGS4 waiting only for modded TW launcher, thats why I was so curious if this will handle it without the need to use modded multiDPI apps. Nevermind as the multi TW launcher will be avaible I wont need Xposed. THX for reply anyway enjoy it

No it's more tricky with Samsung apps. If you want for example 320 dpi for Contacts app then first you need a contacts app of 320 dpi and then you can change density from this app, just changing phones dpi won't do it. You can find some of these apps in another thread called Multi-DPI Samsung apps. Check op for the link.
You can also try to pull apps from another phones like gs3 or note which have different dpi but I'm not sure about their compatibility with 4.2.2 roms.

Change DPI

Hi,
I'm pretty new to HTC and i used on my previous phones to change the DPI.
I'm root and I change this line of the build.prop : ro.sf.lcd_density
But when i reboot the phone, nothing happend and the original DPI is back in the buid.prop.
There is a way to make it right without install Xposed?
