Finally got a OnePlus One... Need advice - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had then zenfone 2 with 4GB of ram... It ran great but for gaming it ran like crap... I don't think they are optimizing games with Intel chips yet... So I found someone who had a 64GB Oneplus One and we traded phones... Great deal as I love this phone and I can do with 3GB of ram... Now my question is CM12.1 latest update the best this phone has to offer or is there better ones out there.. I game a lot and I mean a lot lol... Like modern Combat 5 GTA (all of them) and mortal Kombat X for example... Also anything I must do besides root my device and unlock bootloader (that's always obvious lol) thanks guys for your help and advice...

You won't know which ROM suits you until you've tested them for yourself. There's nothing you must do, apart from unlocking your bootloader. You might find my guide helpful.

[Q] LG optimus 3d (RAM 512 = too little?)

I have seen other phones that are dual core too, i.e the Evo 3d, motorola atrix, but with 1gb ram. When it comes to gaming, and not just counting the 3d aspect of it. Will the 512 mb of ram be enough to run even upcoming games. Can this device stand newer games that other phones like the htc evo 3d might have no problem handling? Share some thoughts on this. thnx
omfg AGAIN???? :/
512mb are ABSOLUTELY enough!!!
just look at this review
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEE65bNN8mc&feature=player_embedded
8 apps open and phone still fast
While the dual channel technology might bring some small performance benefits, 512MB will remain 512MB.
Current games should be no problem at all, but upcoming games (utilizing the unreal or unity engine for example) will definitely step up in terms of texture amount+resolution and general amount of data (see recent news of Shadowgun for example).
This could become a disadvantage at a certain point, but we´ll have to wait for some hard numbers when the time will come.
But i´m confident that the optimus 3d can keep up at least for 1 year (until we actually experience noticeable performance disadvantages with more advanced and complex games aimed at the Tegra3 Platform and other upcoming chipsets).
I have experienced some lock up'freezing issues when play the included games in 3D. I rooted my phone, so i dont know if its due to that or if its just due to the fact its a developer phone and the software is not final. I still love this phone, very fast and i get 8mb average dl's on Tmo here in the Bay Area(Hayward).
Could someone who has a pre release O3D unit have a look and see how much free ram is available after start-up please? (i'm an android newbie, not sure if this is possible on LG androids in general, without a specific app?) Just wondering how much ram the system leaves you to use....?
Thanks
Ian
i'm confused here...
i was under the impression that the concept here was tri-dual (dual core, dual channel memory, DUAL RAM) resulting in there being 1gb of ram configured as 512mb per core?
is that not what's happening?
It´s supposed to be 256|256 ^^
that's a bit dissappointing then.
however, as has been pointed out, it doesn't seem to affect overall performance much. i can see it being a hinderance to the future longevity o the phone though. a newer-than-gingerbread version of android on the horizon which will undoubtedly demand for higher specs could see this become a problem.
According to the presentation it's supposed to be memory for gpu and memory for system
Has anybody with a pre or final relase O3D managed to find out how much free ram is available after a cold start up please? (i.e no apps/games running, only a task manager) If it's something like 200 - 250mb then that should be ok i guess, HTC seem to think that amount is ok on their sensation, and that started with 768mb..... Sense 3 seems to be a bit of a resource hog, it seems.....
Thanks
Ian

hehe, agreed. i'm just fed up of my current phone. too old/not powerful enough for gingerbread and locked bootloader so only a poor port of cyanogenmod with an un-customisable kernel. long overdue time for new toys.

Sounds like you have the motorola milestone
totally.
it's like motorola gave me a gold brick and the punched me in the face every day since.
If an O3D is supplied directly from a network, and comes loaded with their bloatware, will this affect the amount of free ram available?
Thanks

[Q] Perfomance? Gameplay videos?

Hello!
I'm wondering how this phone perform in heavy apps and games.
I've searched for gameplay videos on youtube but haven't found any. Maybe my searching skills sucks. Can anyone here make a gameplay video? Or link to an existing gameplay video?
I'm about to buy LG Optimus 2X, Samsung Galaxy S2 or HTC Sensation. So I'm just looking for some answers.
Does anyone know any LG O2X vs SGS2 vs HTC Sensation article/video?
Hi.
You can find some gaming performance on this video after min 13:00.

What happend @ 14:26 ? Since he went to the Task Mangager I guess he didn't have enough free RAM to run the game. But shouldn't a phone with that amount of RAM don't run low on RAM?
Would this phone be the right phone for me if I want a phone that can run EVERY game that exists now. And every coming games for about 1 year?

The Sense UI is a real memory hog. It certainly looks nice, but it takes up a lot of memory. That's why I'm hoping HTC unlocks the bootloader on the Sensation soon than later.
i have been using the desire hd version for those games (cracked apk's)
and what happened @14mins mark was: that game is supposedly made only to run on tegra 2 devices but somehow this guy has found a workaround for it that still is a bit buggy !
about the ram: dont worry u wont run out of ram !
Alright! Thanks.
How much free RAM would it be possible to get? Without rooting or change rom. How much RAM would I save by maybe turn off some animations ?
Like I said before. I wanna be able to run heaviest games that exists now perfectly. And the coming games for a while. Is this the right phone then?

I guess it's quite good on gaming. But maybe gaming works better on another phone.
I guess that playing games eats battery on every phone But I can charge it while I'm playing.
Ah I got a question now. HDMI works on every TV, but it only charge the phone if the TV supports MHL? Is there any adapter, so I can charge it AND using HDMI without a TV that have MHL.

Yes they do have such adapters that allow you to do that which should be coming out soon. I believe I saw one in a Galaxy S II demo video a couple months ago that had two microUSB ports: one for the MHL connection and one for the phone charger.

He was trying to run a game optimized for Tegra - for some unknown reason it didn't launch on the first attempt (black screen), therefore he launched the task killer and force closed the game. He did not kill any other applications. After that, he proceeded and (this time successfully) launched the game a second time.
This definitively wasn't RAM related as there was still plenty of free space left.

Ah okay
The LG O2X does have randomly reboots. This one have a death grip and the camera app crashes. Samsung Galaxy S2, seems to be so plastic and slippery but that phone seems to be quite stable.
HTC Sensation doesn't have USB OTG.
All the phones probably have more bugs but that's a few of them. This is driving me crazy.
Is there a way to turn Sense animations off? That might help memory use and performance.

The search doesn't do anything, the video I saw him load angry birds with no mention of dungeon defenders. Although I asked if anyone tried it, not if there were videos of it. The game runs smooth on my SGS in single player, but in multiplayer it can get really laggy. He just showed that it boots fast pretty much.

First one... My point was single player vs multiplayer on dungeon defenders is way different on the SGS phones (which are listed as "mid range" for their specs, and the only thing better is Tegra2s).
It's not essential, I just can't find much info any where on the net about it (then again it's hard to find as typing "dungeon defenders sensation" brings up tons of forums that discuss both dungeon defenders and sensations but separately) and I have read the SGS2 (which isn't really an option for me, but I am presuming the Hercules will be similar) has problems with gaming. I don't think that will persuade me one way or the other but figured I would just drop the question in a gameplay thread.
I like the qHD screen, but I love my amoled... The benchmark comparisons is sort of worrisome as well, but I might end up with a sensation either way, as long as the bootloader gets unlocked.

[Q] Tegra Zone not compatible?

I thought this phone had tegra inside. Why can't I download any tegra games (pinball) or use the Tegra Zone?
It's a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, not the Nvidia Tegra 2
Why in the world did I think this was a Tegra? Dang. Buyer's remorse.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
if the sensation was tooted, we could play some (most of ?) Tegra games on our devices, unsing Tegra fix, Chainfire 3D drivers, etc
So far, and as I had no choice, I just found a "special" version of Pinball HD for Tegra2, that is compatible with non-Tegra devices.
So yes, I installes a warez, blame me, fire me, but I didn't have choice, I would have bought this game if my Sensation had been rooted and then I could get this game legally.
Tegrazone
Hmm i can install the tegra zone... and the game "Dungeon Defenders" works good...
i dont know why the tegrazone are @ the market 4 me )
games like samurai II vengance are only locked but playable with patches from XDA (i think)
you can install Tegra Zone, sure, but it won't let you install the games.
And to apply the patch you're talking about, you need root

Tegra 2 is arguably the worst dual core chip when compared to the snapdragon and Samsung dual cores, but yes, it has the best exclusive games.
I wouldn't be upset with having a Sensation. It's far better than the Optimus 2x and Atrix. More reliable too.
My Sensation is on its way. I'm surprised to hear that the Tegra games won't work w/ non Tegra phones. I don't remember reading that when I bought them. Had most of them on my G2X, but I didn't play them all that much though. I always seem to go back to Angry Birds.
Maybe I'll just sell those Apps.

Hey guy...Yeah, but I'm holding onto the G2X for awhile to see how it plays out. I still hold out hope for it. I picked up (held) a Sensy at the tmobile store today, felt pretty nice.....I think I'm gonna like it! Can't wait.....already purchased the hdmi adapter and spare batteries and a charger. maybe the sensation will be able to use The newly announced "Playstation Suite" that allows us to play touchscreen optimized playstation roms for like $20 or game or something crazy like that I'm sure
Some games like Dungeon Defenders will work because there is actually two versions of the game. The market checks which hardware you have and downloads the right one. I ran it on my MT4G and Tegra 2 tablet and it downloaded a HQ version on my Tegra 2 Tab but SQ on anything other. I know some games are strictly for T2 and will install on other phones (side loading of course) but will not run

Ya...thats what.Even i dont want to wait because my budget was around 18k, i stretched it to 20k(current price of nexus s in inr)...the budget is so strict that i cant even stretch it to buy sgs i9000(which i dont feel is worth buying when compared to nexus s)...and my requirement is that heavy (gameloft-ish)games should work smoothly ...which i think nexus s with its 1ghz humming bird procc & PowerVR SGX 540 would handle quite well atleast for an year or so ..and plus there is a chance that nexus s will be getting ICS ...so i think i should just buy it now ...and 20k for nexus s is a steal i think !
The nexus s is an awesome phone for the price now (320 € in Germany). I wouldn't spend almost twice as much for a double core.
Btw, I'm not sure where you're from but in the states when you say 20k that k stands for thousands. So $20,000 is a bit much for the Nexus S. I only paid $200 for mine

Gaming? Nexus S is never your wrong choice. Haha.
You can use Chainfire 3D on Nexus S to play Tegra 2 games,
you can overclock your phone using Trinity 1.576 kernel to maximize your game experience.
What more do you want when the 1.576 kernel give a same quadrant score (or even higher) than duo core phone such as Optimus 2x ang SGSII??
In conclusion, get me to help you when you got your nexus, I will give you all the necessary file/kernel/rom/apps for maximum gaming experience
I am a gamer (only when holiday,LOL) with 24 hours charging my phone
after personally trying both optimus 2x and atrix for more than 2 weeks each. " brother has atrix and i got optimus 2x from my friend to use it since he doesnt want it " got galaxy s2", i would go for nexus S
the reason is simple. this is all marketing bs. there is nothing that can run on galaxy s2 or atrix or optimus 2x that cant run on nexus S . everything runs perfectly fine on nexus S. no lag. perfectly fine.
the only thing that wont run are the nvidia games. but as far as i know. they are all been ported to other phones.
however. what broke it up was skype. to know that skype was released for video chat only on 4 phones and nexus is one of them. made me note something. i have to get that phone. not because of skype. but because clearly. its a dev platform. when skype tested their video call. they tested it on nexus. even with the mods. skype till now cant run video calls on optimus 2x and tegra. do to the fact tegra cant read some codes. i think mods are looking into it but i dont have high hopes at all. because this is not the first time dev get stuck on something like that. " same code "
if you are talking about dual core phones as galaxy s2. then this is another story.
GS2 is superior phone. there is no doubt about it. better and bigger screen. thinner, faster. but u will also get stuck with 2 things
- google updates... u wont get any till samsung give their blessing
- some problems running some games " again. some issue with reading codes. while this is being sported out by devs here, its still not perfect. "

where i can download chainfire 3d ?
also. i dont advise overclocking your phone. it shorten the lfie of your cpu/gpu.
i would definitely choose the Nexus S .. its a powerful beast ..
1, 1ghz processor is enough for everything
2, gpu 540 - can handle all the games - much stronger than the most used adreno 200 or 205
3, updates directly from google! - how fast your phone is depends also on the OS ..
4,you get comparable scores when you tweak your phone vs dualcores -sometimes even more
5,the chipset used in Nexus S has one of the best audio chips used in a device - regarding that Voodoo Sound - it seriously killed my ipod, my Hi-Fi at home .. i just use that ..
6, you want more? you can play 720p MKV on this hardware - you cant do that on most dualcore - coz they miss the hq mkv profile - diceplayer
7,skype video calls? here we go
8, NFC - the future is already there
u know google decided to make "the phone" and when they do one .. they mostly put all the best stuff into it from that "time frame" ..

the only thing that wont run are the nvidia games. but as far as i know. they are all been ported to other phones.
however. what broke it up was skype. to know that skype was released for video chat only on 4 phones and nexus is one of them. made me note something. i have to get that phone. not because of skype. but because clearly. its a dev platform. when skype tested their video call. they tested it on nexus. even with the mods. skype till now cant run video calls on optimus 2x and tegra. do to the fact tegra cant read some codes. i think mods are looking into it but i dont have high hopes at all. because this is not the first time dev get stuck on something like that.

i did not know that skype is supported only on 4 phones as of now ...and one is nexus s !!! so nexus s would be really good, because i guess mostly everything is going to work on it ...and if it wont we can make it run ! (using xda's amazing support)!!

There are 2 types, free and pro version
Well, I going to change my phone when NExus prime is out, and I gonna sell my nexus S. Haha. I wont protect my phone just to expand it lifespan, I want a maximum enjoy, that's the reason why I choose to buy smartphone. LOL

i would definitely choose the Nexus S .. its a powerful beast ..
6, you want more? you can play 720p MKV on this hardware - you cant do that on most dualcore - coz they miss the hq mkv profile - diceplayer
u know google decided to make "the phone" and when they do one .. they mostly put all the best stuff into it from that "time frame" ..

I agree.
NVIDIA Tegra2 dual core : Video decoder is too bad...Hard to play H.264 High profile.
Snapdragon dual core : Video is not so good but can play 720p MKV using diceplayer.
Exynos dual core : GREAT Video decoder. it can play 1080p High profile.
if you have HDMI-out cable, your phone turn into video player.

Are you sure. YouTube videos are saying it is not compatible
They are compatible, but they may not show up on play store with certain android OS. My stock OS that came with my phone here in UK wouldn't let me download GTA, Asphalt 8 and some others. But when I flashed the AT&T OS to my phone, the 4.2.2 version 1.24.XXXX, I could download and play these games. Also 4.4.2 works with these, but not 4.3. By not working I mean being able to download from play store, but they do work across all OS, its just play store being a *****.
Though Asphalt 6 wouldn't work on any OS except 4.4.2 for me.

THAT means I have to root that mobile. Uh I don't wanna root. And I don't want to download from net due to fear of malware. Is there any other way. Does the KitKat update makes them appear on play store. I reside in India.

The videos on youtube are old. Check out the new ones. You don't have to root to find them.

Ah, thanks, now I think I can buy this beauty. I was deciding between xperia z1 compact and this one. Though Xperia Z1 compact has a miles better processor and camera, HTC one mini is a sheer beauty and I just cannot bring myself to but the Sony even if it is better. I don't care about processor as long as I can play a few games smoothly. Thanks everybody. I think this is a good community. Pity I cannot contribute to android development as I am forbidden by my parents. The money saved I will splurge on a gaming console.

Before you buy it, check out the htc m8 mini first. It might even be a better gaming phone since is a quad core and it has sd card slot(which is really good for flashing rom).

But HTC m8 mini is releasing in may which is a bit late as I can freely use the mobile only for few days of April. Moreover it will expensive. It will certainly between 36000 and 42000k. Even one mini was 40k at launch. Um I mean 60 rupees is equal to one dollar. So yah its price in India will be BTW 600-700$.
