Ever since I updated to B106 when I'm using the speakerphone callers tell me they hear an annoying echo. It's like they are hearing themselves talking. Does anyone else have this problem? If you're not sure, try calling someone and put them on speaker and see if they hear themselves talking. I did a restore back to stock B106 and have the same problem. I updated to SP01, same problem.

I too have this problem. I thought I was the only one!
When I call someone they hear themselves, an echo. I do not put them on loudspeaker, I just call them like usual. I tested this myself on various devices and with friends.
Important note: It only happens on SIM 1, and just slightly on SIM 2.

Just tested with the new 4.4 image and the problem remains from when i was on 4.2 image. Anytime I place a caller on speakerphone, they report they have a bad echo in their handset while they are talking. Tested with multiple people. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Can microphones be disabled one by one in mixer-paths.xml?
A lot of echoing still going on when placing people on speakerphone. Everyting stock, newest OTA.
I read somewhere that disabling bottom mic helps because it's nearest to the loudspeaker. Can any mic be disabled separately on mixer_paths.xml?
Would like to also keep my phone not rooted since at the moment I don't have time fiddle with my phone a lot. Would it be possible to probably create an app where you could determine that for example when Skype is on speakerphone it only uses top mic? Or when using sound recorder it uses all the microphones?
Any progress on this? Got the phone not too long ago, but every time I put someone on speaker they report hearing their own echo. This happens on stock 38r, as well as other kernels and roms.
i read somewhere that its because the mic is near the speaker so the sound comes out the loud speaker and goes into the mic hence why the person can hear them selves. my thought it is there any way of adding an option to have the other persons voice come out the ear piece speaker instead of the speaker at the bottom? could this solve the problem?
Guys, copy the following mixer_paths.xml file to replace with the one you have in /etc (requires root)
I uploaded it here:
http://www.filedropper.com/mixerpaths
I'm not exactly sure which part of its content solved the problem, I just took it from a custom ROM that did not have this issue (SlimKat) and put it in the rom I use (that DID have the echo issue).
Solved the problem for me, hopefully it will solve it for you too.

Sorry, but the file doesn't exist. Can you upload one more time?
Anyone who can re-upload the file?

Hi all,
I am from Australia and got a sony z3 the weekend and so far it has been great but I am having an issue when talking to people over viber/skype. When using video chat or loud speaker the other person can hear themselves back quit loudly like it is an echo. Even if i put the headphones in on my phone they can still hear themselves back but it isn't as loud.
If I switch to my old samsung s3 it has no problems I am using the same wifi etc same location and calling the same people.
There doesn't seem to be much of a issue when calling normal and using the loud speaker. Just with apps like viber/skype.
Does anyone else have this issue at all? Or can anyone test video/using loud speaker on Viber and letting me know if they have the same issue or is my phone possibly faulty?
Thanks Matt
Try a reboot.
Or try another app. It's possible Viber/Skype doesn't use noise cancellation. You could always use a headset or BT speaker (set it further away from the phone). If that all fails, there's a Mic Sensitivity setting under Settings -> Sound -> Audio Settings.
Thanks for the reply,
I have tried rebooting and it didnt help. I have also tried using headphones and while it made it a bit quieter they still had the same problem.
I will have a go at messing with the sound settings, thanks.
I think i am just going to take it back and see if it is just my phone with the issue or all z3's
Is anyone able to test on the z3 and video call someone on viber and let me know if they have the same issue?
Thanks,
Matt

So i had the L preview on my Nexus 5 previously, no root or anything. Then on friday I flashed the factory lollipop using Nexus Root Toolkit. Everything has been fine except making calls.
When i get a phone call it rings i answer but cannot hear anything - unless i press the loudspeaker button then i can hear the other person and they can hear me. and the same when i make a call too - i cannot even hear the dialing tone normally.
I flashed again today to try and fix this and then reset to factory defaults. Didn't get any errors on flash. still no sound or mic on calls unless i turn on loudspeaker.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and if theres a fix for it?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Is there a way of verifying if it's a hardware issue?

i guess i could flash kitkat again? but the thing is that switching it to speaker allows my mic to work also. so its a software thing i think. Not sure how to test the earpiece speaker however.
i solved this problem, it was a stupid thing i had in my headphone jack called pressy.
I'm having severe issues with my phone recently.
Unless I put the call on speaker, I won't hear and won't be heard on the other side
I tried installing image 4.4.4 from Google website, used flash_all script, yet is still the same issue
How can I solve it?
i did a update koodo alcatel idol 3 323 mb it fixed lots of issues camera, lock screen double but when i take calls it echos for the other person.
the echo is only for the person on the other end and not for me and it is very little when on earpiece but when i turn on speaker it echo extremely loud for the other person unbearable for them to talk to me. i need to use speaker as when i am driving . please help me out . i wish i did not update , can i go back to the old firmware somehow until this is fix.
i did a factory reset 2 times after the update hope it will fix but it did not. the only way not to exho is put my full ear on earpiece and talk. echo is their with mic headphone and with speaker it gets loud even with the volume down to full. it doesnt echo on viber with ear peice or speaker. so im guessing it is software for dialer app , also tried different dialer app it didnot help. please help
Same issue here since doing the update. This really needs a quick fix.
Edit: I've just sent Alcatel a message, will let you know what they say.

Try to turn off the JBL effects maybe should help because whenever i have this enabled and play music and sometimes i pause it kinda echoes even watching vlogs too in youtube
It is only possible to downgrade if you have a system image and boot backup using fastboot and twrp
I can confirm it is also happening on my device: koodo.
Speakerphone was always bad on my phone before I had to scream at it so people could hear me now its an echo.
My car has Bluetooth so I will be pairing it tomorrow (never bothered before because of laziness)
I only use wifi no sim card. People who receive a Hangout voip call from me and only when l use the speaker phone hear a loud echo of themselves. Speaker off no echo.
