[APP] QuickPic v4.5.2 (Classic version) - Android Apps and Games

Long story short. We know the recent acquisition of the excellent QuickPic app by Cheetah Mobile. Being one of those who would like to avoid using any Cheetah app, and yet can't live without QuickPic, I have followed tips from others to resign the QuickPic v4.5.2 (last good version before Cheetah acquisition), so as to keep the app in my phone without the fear of auto-update or trouble of skipping update notification by Google Play Store.
Below are the original (1st attachment) and resigned (2nd attachment) versions. To use the resigned version, first uninstall the QuickPic app in your phone, and then install the resigned app and you will be fine.
(p.s. The resigned version is prepared by signing the original version with the test certificate provided in the Android SDK and then zip-aligning.)
(p.s.2 You can get the orginal v4.5.2 from the author's site here: http://alensw.com/assets/quickpic_4.5.2.apk )

indeed.. theres no relevant functionality/improvement added but nagware (and suspicious background process which many people feel disgusted with)..

Hi.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what does the re-signed version do? Will it (or either or the versions attached) stop the current Cheetah QuickPic from updating and/stop me getting update messages for it (as I don't have auto-update set)?
Thanks for your help.

You are right. The re-signed version is based on the last "true" version of QuickPic (v4.5.2) before it got bought by CheetahMobile. As it is re-signed, it will not auto-update itself through Play Store (and will never show up in the Update list). Result: QuickPic without CheetahMobile :good:

Hi all,
I love QuickPic, it's one of the first apps that i restore/install whenever I flash and I always keep it updated as much as possible. I was a little worried after I saw the posts about the acquisition and getting loaded up with bloat/spam, and please forgive me if I'm missing something, but I don't see any of that in their current releases. The last update I had was maybe a day or two ago and, while it does say "Cheetah.....blahblah" as the developer, the only thing that I see added was the introduction of a 1,000GB cloud storage and autobackup for your pix (and the ability to send your quickpic code to a friend for an additional 1,000GB of cloud storage). Also not noticing any form of lag using the app either. I checked the market this morning and QuickPic did not show an update; when I open the app, there's no ads, banners, etc.
Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there that as far as the updates go, as of 9/21 AM, I'm not seeing anything that would make me walk away from the app. (US Market)

there is a background process added to the Cheetah versions, which did not exist in pre-Cheetah versions..
and the apk size went from 1.1MB to the current 2.5MB.. what do you think was/were added to the app, since there is no major functionality added as you also noticed?
anyway, its still a matter of personal choice.. continue to enjoy what Cheetah offer you if you dont mind or care..

Is there any way to make cloud backup work on this re signed version of QuickPic?

If you turn off all cloud related (dropbox, sync,...) there will be no background service. Yes, I checked.

Well, since they added in a cloud backup service, and an auto upload of pix service, I would expect the size in the apk to go up, would it not?

yes.. actually the 2nd attachment was re-signed and zip-aligned (which is just a standard optimisation to the apk), and thus the file name..

[Q] To ROM makers: how do you link pre-installed applications to Android Market?

I just got a great news today, my own application will be included on all the phone of the brand "X" in my little country (Belgium)
I got so excited when I am looking at the phones in the shops and I can see my application by default.
Unfortunately, the brand "X" is noobie and seem unable to link my app to the Market, so the users cannot be aware that there is an upgrade in the Android Market.
they just ask me by email
Do you know how to link apps to the market to get the update automatic?

You got to put your apk file in the data/app folder, not the system/app. According to HTC Android ROM kitchen at least, with which I'm experimenting now.

I don't care, I prefer users removing my app rather than being annoyed by an old version, but I don't think that the manufacturer will allow to do that.
Are there really no other option than moving the app? I cannot believe that as many devices have pre-installed apps and are linked to the Market.

Yeah I prefer that way too but U.S. carriers love putting preloaded applications on the phone and it can't be removed unless the user have root access.
And there is no option.. unless you want to provide the customers phones with root access from the start but that'll cause future updates to be a hassle.
The only way to update your app is via a software update (OTA).

Haha, you probably need an answer from an actual dev.
One thing I do know is that it is possible with Titanium Backup, or any other root backup app, to backup your apps with a market link, so that you can update your backed up apps. So maybe that's the solution? Put a market link somewhere?

Actually.. now that I'm thinking about it. Stock ROMs have Android Market is in /system/app/ as Vending.apk.
I believe what happens is that, the market will UPDATE. But you could always uninstall the updates but you're unable to fully get rid of the app.
This should apply to any app in /system/app/ so in theory it should be possible. But yeah, you'd have to ask a dev about it.

Google Play v3.9.16

Hey guys. Nothing to do with me, but I felt it was worth reposting the info here - if only because you can now delete apps from your "All Apps" list at long last.
Android Police Review
I'm sure that people will post other places to get it from but just to get you going;-
Android Police mirror #1
Android Police mirror #2
Android Police mirror #3
Android Police multi-mirror
com.android.vending_3.9.16.apk
Enjoy - I've just downloaded and will try it out now.
--------------------------------------------------
Update - seems to work fine (currently on Reaper v4) and removing apps from the list works. It isn't the fastest process in the world as you only seem to be able to do each one at a time, but after a couple of minutes they then disappear from the Google Play website list as well!! I've been waiting for this feature for 18 months now - well done Google.
Just one word of warning - try not to delete any of your paid apps/games as I'm not entirely sure what the effect would be - likely that you would have to pay again if you wanted to re-install them, just like it is if you delete any of your purchased media from Google. If an app is currently installed though you can't delete it, so that should make most things safe.
--------------------------------------------------
Now that Google have proved it IS possible to allow us to remove unwanted apps from our lists, I really really hope they put this facility on the web-site some time. I've spent the best part of two hours now deleting all the cr4p I've tried-out over the last 18 months and I'm only about half way there
--------------------------------------------------
Finally :victory: Now when I go to the "My Android Apps" page I have 6 pages of "Apps installed on ..." and only 8 applications listed in the "Other apps in my library!
Now I can keep the damn thing under control - if I don't like an app I can just delete it immediately, and when I install a new ROM I can actually find the apps I need to re-install quickly and easily.
New Google Play Update
I love the new update and I also noticed deleting apps from the list one by one could take forever, I did some research and discovered if you long press the app you want to remove you can then click all the other apps you don't want and remove them at once. Awesome!

List of bloat that can be (safely) removed

Okay, if another thread with a listing exists, please point me there and I'll ask to have this deleted. I did search "bloat", "remove apps", and so on and based on thread titles (sorry - can't check every one especially when the title suggests nothing obvious) and found nothing.
I'm certain that all of the various Google Play apps, i.e. Magazines, Books, Movies & TV can go, plus they're downloadable from the Play Store if I ever want them back.
-- What about the various Verizon apps, i.e. Tones ? Is Mobile Hotspot a Verizon app or an Android one ? FWIW, if I tether, I won't use that...
-- What about Samsung's apps like S Memo, S Suggest, AllShare Play, Group Play, etc ?
Any related widgets will go too !
If there's others, please list them ! I do know that just because I don't recognize an app that it doesn't mean it's safe or wise to delete it as many are used behind-the-scenes and are critical. Finally, I'm backing up any apps that I do delete just in case.

Verizon Galaxy S III apps safe to remove
I know I'm necro-ing a thread, but I've just made my own list. (Somehow I missed this post.) I see different apps in my list from the one above, so I figured I would share it anyway!
This list is a copy of the one found here (Sprint version), with a new sheet for the Verizon version. I've stripped out the apps that were in the former list, updated APK names, and went through each app on my phone to do this. Oh, I'm running 4.1.2 on a stock rooted ROM, and I used Titanium Backup to inspect the various apps and test freezing/removing them.
Click here for the list. And feel free to make your own copies!
Edit: My list was for prior to 4.3, so it's likely not 100% accurate anymore. Can't really verify that, I'm afraid, as I used this pre-rooted stock ROM to install 4.3 on my phone, and it already had a great deal of stuff stripped out. Since then, however, I've switched to T-Mobile and picked up a Nexus 5, so I won't be able to maintain the list. (Though I'll leave it available just in case.)

[APP][5.0+][ROOT] Play Music Exporter

Hey everybody,
some of you might have known this app, but that hasn't been updated in a while. I therefore decided to fork the "new" beta a few months back, and I got that working again and extended it a bit.
What is it?
Basically, it's an app that takes the cached and downloaded songs of Google Play Music, adds ID3 tags to them from the database of GPM, searches for covers online, and saves all that together in an MP3 wherever you want.
Bug reports and Feature Requests:
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or in the matrix discussion room. If you find any bugs, or have feature requests, please check the issue tracker on github, if you can't find it, report it there, post in this thread, or write a message in the discussion room linked above.
Download:
You can download the app either on F-Droid, or XDA-Labs. Please note though, that the release to F-Droid is a bit faster, since it is automatic, and I only add a release on XDA-Labs, after it has been successfully published to F-Droid.

Hey jcgruenhage! Many thanks for the app, that helps you to get all your cached music from Google Play Music All Access. And also, many thanks for the tipp, that it is possible to get the unprotected mp3 directly on PC from GMPAA with help of Remix OS Player.

Yes, as it says in the description
Thank you so much for your rework of the initial app !
This is now working again (Galaxy S6 under LL) and actually perfect !
I love the concept of this app, however I'm having issues. No matter where I set the export location (internal or external) or where Google has the music saved (again, internal or external), the app gets through a few hundred songs then seems to freeze on one randomly. The app doesn't crash or give me an error, it just seems to stop working. This is regardless of whether the device is awake, asleep, running other apps, running nothing, etc. It seems to move progressively slower in exporting each song until it just decides to stop.

Well, I guess if I post this here, I should be able to check every now and then, just changed the description above, post issues wherever you want, I'll collect them on github ^^
On to your issue however: There have been a few people reporting this on the original app, and so far, I have not found the cause. However, using the automatic export, I have seen a few hundred songs getting exported without any delay, so maybe unifying the export calls of these two operations might help.

Music Mate is different in a two key points:
Closed Source and "needs" a lot of permissions, in addition to costing money.
Interacts with the Google Servers instead of the local storage.
The first one is a big problem for privacy reasons, you're giving yet another company data about you, that they can use for whatever they want. The second is even worse, since that means that Google can find out about you ripping music/violating their terms of service, without even looking on your phone. This is true for any app using unofficial Play Music APIs.
If you are going to use something like that, I'd recommend GMusicProxyGui. That is free, open source, and probably even uses the same backend (gmusicproxy) for downloading the songs.

Ah true true. I didn't even think about that. I used to use a program for Windows (Song Spout) that did basically the same thing and cost $10 a year (originally). It probably used the same method as Music Mate.
I've been using Music Mate because I've been running my phone unrooted for a while due to that damned Safety Net. Thankfully, my tablet is in the "couldn't care less about Safety Net" group so this will work on it.
Thanks for updating this app. :good:

Just flash in custom recovery or in flashfire (Mount system in flashfire)

The thing that would be great is dialer + contact+ messages apps , that are way quicker and lightweight than Google ones

Will be working on it soon, I've had problems in the past with uninstalling Samsung's phone, so you might have to just disable that. All the others I should be able to remove no problem

Got it, the incallui is phone v2.1.39.
Edit: You leave the phone apps alone. You actually delete samsung contacts app
Yeah i had trouble using package disabler pro for that
Updated link - Mount system in flashfire... let me know if it works or not
Edit: Updated again (July 20th)
Nice part about these as well... we don't have to rely on Samsung's App store to get themes... all google's apps are substratum friendly.
I have/had a rom out for the LG G4, i basically replaced all LG stock apps with either the Google version or the Sony Xperia version for this very reason... theme-ability without the need for a stock based theme store
Kudos mate!
Have anyone tried it on the S8+ port rom? I don't know if it will crash the system in some point

As long as they didn't change the package names... if they did it shouldn't mess anything up (like a brick/bootloop) it just won't uninstall the Samsung apps.

Hey,
Could I am trying to build the Google Stock apps on my own, currently having some trouble building the apps
with Android Studio, getting errors like "No resource found that matches the given name "Theme.AppCompat.Light"
how did you overcome those problems?
Thanks!

I mean I didn't use anything, just notepad++ to update the script and I placed the apps in data/app.

I didn't, I just used the apk files I downloaded.
Could you make it into system and not a uninstallable app? Also, can you remove the Samsung Calculator when it is installed? I don't like two calculators on my phone, thanks!!
