Low call volume - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to call the in call volume louder? If I use hangouts the earpiece volume is great, but it is low when using the native dialer.
Just got two s5s, so I'm pretty sure it isn't hardware since both do it and the volume is greatly increased in hangouts. I've tested it using the hangouts dialer and calls are loud, but soft if i use the TouchWiz dialer. My SIII seemed louder.
I'm running moar and have applied the volume boost, but no difference in regards to the native dialer earpiece volume. I edited a few things in mixer_paths.xml, but no difference. Earpiece works great with hangouts, so there must be a code to change.
Thanks

It is in that file I believe. But you have to edit the proper lines which I don't have memorized. But there are a bunch of zip files around here that should work. You could also try viper4android and boost earpiece volume.

You are right. I think I was editing the wrong line with path name=handset. Should have scrolled down to Voice call Scenario...but was apparently too lazy and then discovered it when I actually looked at the file on my computer instead of the phone after posting this. Editing the file works when you do the correct line.
If anyone else has this issue, I'll post some directions, but I had a hard time find info about it.

I'm pretty surer there are already threads on this as I reference them every time I flash a new ROM.

Simple Way To Up Volume

Is there a simple way to up the volume? speakerphone and headphone volume, i work roofing and like to listen to music, my phone is rooted as i figure thats required. I thought i read about something earlier there was an app that would allow this.
I'm guessing the apps called louder volume hack. I tried it, not sure if I did anything wrong but I couldn't notice much difference to be honest. not sure about the in call volume check though!!

Volume + Updated and I must say.......

This app seems to be solving the issue with a low volume notification speaker. I find that the VR settings works the best and I notice a SIGNIFICANT difference.

What are the appropriate settings? Like an average level boost?
I'm playing with it now. So far VR just gives a super tinny distorted sound. My preference for speaker is EQ on treble boost, bass enhance on +4 and volume level @ +8 for SRS. For ringtones I have it set to eq=goodquality, bassenhance=+3 and Volume=+8.
Stock ringtones don't require any fine tuning and sound pretty good regardless of setting but if you use music files with vocals you're not gonna be happy without playing around to find your preference. You're going to want to keep bass low no matter what with this speaker.
I haven't messed with the settings beneath that which seem to be fine tuning eq controls.
Link for those who had to go look for it. (Like I did)

I believe that is warez, because i just paid for volume+ yesterday..
Not warez. Volume+ is free on the dev's website, it supposedly has less features than the market version...

I saw that option as well, but I figured I'd pay for it if it worked, which it does...well.
I have no problems paying for it. The dev worked hard to get this working and out on the market for us impatient hard hearing owners lol....
Oh ok, my mistake.
Ya this worked really well, i d/l the app from the site but ill go and buy this. Really big improvement when using speaker phone and on a call.

Can someone post the best setting for speaker phone volume for this app
still playing with the settings but works great so far.
I can't say that this works for speakerphone. I see the sound differences when playing music and ringtones but there is absolutely no difference on a call.
When on a call in speakerphone, try turning bass up and down, volume up and down etc. You will see it doesn't respond to anything.

Just wait for the volume mod from the evo3d to get released for the sensation. Unlocking may come first though.
The download file is a ZIP file and there is no apk in there. Can someone please guide me on how to install Volume+

Just rename the zip file from zip to apk.(VolumePlus1.7.0.zip to
VolumePlus1.7.0.apk)
Awesome Thanks, works like a charm now.

perhaps the developer got a wind of it and changed it but I just downloaded it and it's a APK file.

I have to disagree. My wake alarm which uses the speakerphone was pretty low as the app setting was to read on loud. After upping the speaker and headset settings to the max volume, it wasn't bazooka tube loud thump but it was loud enough to wake me up .

[Q] Can volume levels be linked?

Does anyone know if it's possible to link the ringtone volume level with the notification volume level? I remember it being possible to do this on my Captivate when you went into Settings > Sound and clicked on Volume, there was a checkbox at the bottom of the pop-up menu to link them. I'm not sure if that was just because of the ROM I had on it, or if it was also stock Froyo. I liked it because I could quickly lower my text message notification volume right from the volume rocker, as it would then control both the ringtone and the notification level. But now it only lowers my ringtone volume. So is this at all possible to do? And if not, is it something that a dev could possibly work into a ROM?
You could use the app called audio manager that does it.

Thanks for the tip. Just downloaded it and it does, in fact, allow the volume rocker to adjust both my ringtone and text message volume at the same time. So I will definitely be using this for now; although, I really don't need all the other features. I wish I didn't have to download an entire app to accomplish this small task. I feel like I'm always having to do that haha. I just wish it was easy enough to include these small little individual preferences right into the system, framework, etc. by yourself. I also feel like that was a great little feature and I wonder why they would've done away with it in GB. Ohh well, thank you though!

[Q] How do I increase Bluetooth volume?

The overall volume on the Nexus 5 (and every Android phone I have had) is very low. I even just rooted my phone to adjust the volumes in "mixer_paths.xml" only to realize that I can only adjust headphone and speaker volumes there.
Is there a way to increase all media volume, or at least Bluetooth volume?
With almost everything I play on my Nexus 5, I have to set the volume at about 90% to get the volume right. That leaves no range if I need to increase it when something was recorded at a low volume. I would like to make it so that a normal volume setting is more in the 50% range.
Install Viper4Android sound mod from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cz6l67mk81zsyq4/ViPER4Android_FX_v2330.zip
It increases the sounds system wide! If the normal apk install doesn't increase the system sounds, then push the apk in /system/priv-app/, fix permissions and reboot. It will surely work now

I found Viper4Android mentioned in other postings, but I am not fond of installing random packages off the Internet. Is there some way of verifying what that does before I install it?

I can assure you that v4a isn't some random mod floating around the internet. I've been using it since ages and it works perfectly.
If you want to know more about the same, you can follow this official v4a thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
If you aren't satisfied with the official thread, then you can even follow the V4A discussion thread in the Nexus 5 apps forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/viper4android-t2543796

Questions go in the Q+A forum, not general. Normally I'd answer your question at this point, but there's no need. Next time use Q+A. That's what it's there for.
Another V4A user here.
I wouldn't flash anything I don't trust either, but you have nothing to worry about with Viper.

You can also normalize those media files to the same volume as your other files. Easy to do if you're converting them yourself already.

I listen to things on BeyondPod and I haven't seen that they have any function for normalizing the audio. It would be nice since the podcasts seem to vary in volume. Actually, I guess that BeyondPod is the worst for having low volume. Pandora seems to vary in volume, but I don't usually have to set the volume to 100% to hear things.
Viper4android works
Sorry about posting to general. I don't know why I didn't notice there was a q&a section. I will know better next time.
I downloaded the source for viper4android from github and built it myself. Not that I went over every line of code before installing, but at least I know I made the apk.
https://github.com/vipersaudio/viper4android_xhifi
And it seems to work! At least for headphones so far, but I will try bluetooth. It is much, much more complicated than I was wanting, but I guess if it changes the gain, then that is great.
It's great for wired headphones. I don't see it being able to do much with Bluetooth volume though. Unlike every other volume, bt isn't kernel managed. It's managed in the bt stack. Unless viper does something special that I'm not aware of

It looks like the Viper volume gain adjustment does work with Bluetooth media as well on my Nexus 5, so things are working for me.

noise cancellation mic as primary

I have oneplus one i opened it just out of curiosity and i broke(scrapped off) 3 diod from main chip-set placed just above mic flex cable connection slot. My mic stopped working. while recording video i get beep sound + my sound but while calling i only get beep sound. I dont think hardware repair is possible so i was wondering if there is any software way to make other mics as primary (any specific ROM that offers this or any other manual coding method)?

An edited XML file could work.. I'll try to find it, there are threads discussing similar topics, but haven't seen this exact scenario..

I'm looking at my theory.. The threads are in conjunction to low mic volume, but if you alter the path, you may be able to change the input source..
I'm thinking to make the speaker mic the new main mic..
This is mixer_paths.XML in /system /ect

So what we need to do is
- deactivate main mic
- take input from other mic
- make it primary
any other point i am missing?

You can always rub your finger over the mic. If the noise is low, it`s not that mic that is being used.

How did the script run???
I have the same exact problem. My HTC One main mic has been damaged, whenever Im on call the other end only gets the static noise but can hear clearly in loudspeaker mode (ie from my secondary mic), is there a way to disable the primary mic and make the secondary mic as primary ??
