Does it mean; maybe xperia m2 can get Android M update?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Doubtful, I think 5.1 will be the last big update for the m2. It's 18mth update cycle is up in November. Yes the binaries have been released but that's so you can make your own asop rom from source. All these pictures n charts going round are just guessing and the ones I've seen half the Xperia devices on them probably won't get marshmallow.

Thanks ^^ a good rom is already enough

It's surprise me that they are updating to LP, it's third version and Sony usually update just for one to next.
Xperia M2 D2303 on K.K. 4.4.4
I think they caved in to constant hounding from a Army of loyal users myself(it was a very popular device in 2014/15). Linuxct (#lollipopm2) or something close to that , myself, and lots of others were bombarding twitter and other social media feeds. That's what I like to think anyway as it said they'd changed their mind due to a barrage of loyal Xperia users on the initial press release in June I think it was
After all alot of Sony's custom is from loyal repeat purchaser's

yeah, android M on AOSP
Do not forget about Aqua, it was released much later then usual M2.
Also Go was updated several time from 2.3.7 to 4.1.2
First M from 4.1.2 to 4.3
But anyway we'll see the development

I don't know. Never say ever. Many said we weren't getting Lollipop either but after some good pressure Sony pleasantly decided to update our phone as well. It has the Android M developer preview, and from what I read Marshmallow doesn't really have many new features. Here an article describing what's new:
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/feature/google-android/10-best-android-m-new-features-3614893/
It looks to me more like a 5.2 release than a 6.0. The switch from 4.4.4 to 5.x was much bigger. ART alone is a game changer.
So, it's not impossible
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
it took ages for Lollipop to even START to get developed, I highly doubt that this phone will get M. But most of us didn't think this phone will even get L, so maybe it's a very slim 10% maybe even less.
But I think the L is just like a beta version of M, so maybe we can get M.

Given how long it's taken to finally get to 5.1(nearly there), the m2 will be well out of its update cycle by the time Sony think about releasing marshmallow for any device , even if they use the m2 aqua release date instead of the m2. I think 5.1 will be the last big update for our device as it's not a flagship device only Sony know that one. Personally it's not a problem if it doesn't as in less than 12mths it'll be upgrade time for me so I'll get whatever Sony device is available on my network if I don't take the plunge and get a Z5 before then.

Well, we are moving straight to 5.1.1, though. Which was released in April. The Moto G (quite similar to the M2, same SoC) has got it last month. And it will get 6.0. I mean, I don't know. If Sony wants to compete in the middle range market they are better give the idea that they keep supporting the older phones, like Motorola is doing.

Regardless the fact, mid-range 2013-14 devices has a little amount of Internal Storage, do you think is going to be work fine with that things Sony add to devices? Without getting in count the Google apps. I'll be very pleased if Sony port 6.0 Marshmallow to our devices, yet, I don't think it's going to be work fine having in mind those facts. Even Moto G 2013 until now is being left behind. Just Moto G 2014 and so on will get Marshmallow.

Well, I'm not an expert of the Moto G. I checked it before to buy the M2 and I've seen the two phones had many things in common. So I doubled check, now. From what I've read around the Moto G 2nd generation is supposed to get Marshmallow (and maybe the 1st gen too).
The Moto G 2nd gen phones come with two memory sizes: 8 and 16GB. From my point of view the change in internal memory needed won't be as drastic as in the jump from KitKat to Lollipop. ART is a internal memory sucker and 8GB will be just enough (so be ready to use Link2SD or equivalent scripts), but Marshmallow isn't introducing anything that heavy for the mass storage.
I don't know, after all we are just guessing. I say that there is a slight chance that we still can get it. Not that I''ll cry if we won't. The game changer has been Lollipop (and I wanted it), Marshmallow after all is just an update. Indeed I've found out it was initially numbered as 5.2:
http://www.androidstandard.com/android-m-version-confirmed-as-android-5-2-not-android-6/
OS version numbers became quite a relative thing, lately (any reference to a certain version 10 isn't casual... ).
Z2 upwards and 2015 Xperia devices will get marshmallow, possibly z1 depending on release time. Z downwards won't get marshmallow.

We are lucky enough to have lollipop on our device
So don't expect much to Sony except expecting for aftermarket rom
I'm happy that Sony give us 5.1. And there's not much different between 5 & 6. You can wait for developers in xda to release 6.0. I hope there are more people to develop rom for each model.

Hi.
I hope i put this thread in the right place. Please move if not.
I want to make you all aware of the Neo N003 Premium and Neo N003 Youth.
Two Android phones that i think have great potential for a low price.
Check them out.

I hope the Sony 13 mega-pixel camera will deliver and that the screen is good.
If thats the case i sooo hope that the wonderful people here on xda do what they do and mod the shiit out of them :good:
Im already looking forward to all the questions about what kernel is best for battery *Snicker*
Your thoughts??
The Neo N003 looks great. I've been looking at it for a few weeks now.
I especially like that it's supposed to be the first mtk6589 phone to get usb otg and hdmi.
I'd still probably wait for the 2GB premium version.
Basically for the mtk6589 1080p 2GB phones I really only like 2 of them. The iOcean X7 Premium and the Neo N003.
I just got a iNew i2000 and have been messing around with it. It's very nice, but it's only 720p.
These companies like to make customers hot and then delay the release to another week then to another month. The release will be the end of april now.
I hate the look of the Neo N003, it looks so common. But specs are the best bang for the bucks.
I still prefer the iocean X7, but also the premium version.
Will be interesting to read what users think of it when it finally comes out.
Good choice ha!

The Neo N003 seems to be the most cost effective one out of the Android phones coming from China with similar specs based on rumours so far. My only issue is the lack of bands these phones cover. 2G will be no problem but 3G is weak and no LTE.
I'll be buying one of this (and in a joint purchase we'll get about 500 of this phone, both youth or premium) directly from NEO's factory. It looks like they extended the 3G bands as it now supports 850/900MHz band on 3G. You can see almost full specs here, many of them confirmed directly talking with NEO:
http://www.htcmania.com/showpost.php?p=8082128&postcount=1
Photos also look good:
Right now there are 350 people in the list (it's a joint purchase with 2 forums, HTCMania and Forocoches), 200 on HTCMania list (which hasn't been updated since some time) and about 150 in forocoches one.

lightake is excellent. there is a coupon thread here as well for the neo n003. in my opinion, not worth an extra $90 or so for the ultimate. the standard should suit 99.9% of users just fine.
http://chinaphonearena.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=393
Neo N003 2GB version is being pre-sold but the iOcean X7 pre-sells are only the youth 1GB version.
i can't see the advantage of having 2GB ram over 1GB if in ANDROID we have ZRAM (like virtual memory in windows) and the games/apps are running fine on 512mb RAM...
BTW, any news about this phone? still presale?
Some reviews say iOcean X7 Youth version has lower display specs, most say it's the same. Camera is 13mp in full version but 8mp in Youth version.

Android 5? well, next one looks like it will be Android 4.3, but we don't know if it will be updated.
There are already root guides for MT6589 phones, and this one doesn't look like it will be any harder. About custom roms, in HTCMania we are buying about 3000 phones so, yeah, maybe there will be roms.

Can u just compile it for both lte and non lte devices like d2202 because i have non lte variant and i dont find pure stock roms
Please make it for dual sim variant too
Guys, I think all this is a ridiculous effort from Sony. Let me explain my point.
Why the hell Sony bring for us AOSP M preview for E3 if we dont have at least Android 5.0.2 or 5.1.1 Lollipop user experience? This doesn't have any sense for god´s sake!
I barely know about Lollipop because my friends have that version on their phones. You can say android is the same but different, but this is extremely ridiculous. We are getting deep into more and more fragmentation. And if we dont make our voices louder, fragmentation and programated obsolescence will keep us buying and throwing to the trash models and models forever and ever.
Why sony puts an illusion of Android M so early? May be E3 dont see the light when M reach its final version. Remember 2013 Xperia SP, stuck forever in jelly bean, being capable of run lollipop and even M!
Also, "playing in Sony Xperia E3" for using AOSP (Lollipop or M) is only limited to international variant D2203, while D2206/43/12/02 users cant do anything because we cant install via Emma the new BL.
Sony idk why are you doing this, making feel so bad your loyal customers.

Simply @ShanePunk123 we can choose other reliable brand. Motorola is surprisingly giving experience like nexus phones.
Chinese emerging brands as Xiaomi and oneplus are also glowing today. And just wait nokia, because in 2016 they will make a rush, android and nokia coming soon, and also, blackberry is going to have android.
Of course we cant deny that sony is getting serious but we require some respect.
For dignity in low and mid range end devices!! Todos A LA CARGA!

I really like this device.... Even without development it's very smooth and good to use but still we at least need this security that this phone has some importance by Sony..... And point to be noted that this isn't the only phone left behind but there are others like T3 so I do have some hope that something's gonna change in a while so I'm just waiting for it... I wish I had a fast internet connection too.... Without that there's no developing...

Even i liked the device at first but the main problem is the memory which is kinda making me change the device and very slow development for the non lte variants hope this problem will be fixed by our dev at xda asap
The internal memory is not an issue. If we use Facebook lite app instead Facebook app, we can get same results and avoid the filling and the ugly and upset warning icon.
Lets figure out the way of install facebook, chrome and messenger into the sd without swapping memories. They are the main binge eater apps on our little E3´s
Of course even 8 Gb is not enough today, at least in Xperia M4 Aqua, they are in the same condition like us.
Guys, I hope that lollipop doesnt waste more than 3 Gb of the internal memory. If lollipop wastes more than that, say goodbye to lollipop in E3 due to hardware restrictions. If you didnt realize that detail until now, keep in mind that issue until we get official confirmation. That can left us out

@vinay
Its so ridiculous that amount occupied by an android version. My question is:
How many memory or space-whatever- in gigabytes use Stock or CM11 or CM12 or CM12,1 or AOSP 5.0.2 or 5.1.1 filled with just essential apps?
I know that compressed ftf stock rom weights around 800 Mb - 1 Gb for E3, but when installed they left us 1.7 Gb for apps
Total - Free = ROM space
4 - 1.7 = 2.3 Gb occupied by stock 4.4.4
Remaining minus stock size
2.3 - 1.0 = 1.3 Gb lost!!!!
What happens with around 1 Gb?? am i wrong with my calculation?

No one have build this M-preview rom?
I bought a Mi4c a few months ago convinced it was a great phone that could replace my Nexus 5 and yes it is a good phone with good specs but I bought it also when Xiaomi announced it would update to Marshmallow. My Nexus 5 was already running under MM so, I thought it would be a matter of a couple of weeks (Xiaomi announced update in Decembre) Today months have passed, many manufacturers like Motorola, Sony and even Samsung have updated some of their models even Moto E...but still nothing for Mi4c. Xiaomi makes good phones and I thought it was better than others cheap Chineses makers. It wants to be compared to Apple but it lacks support and compromise to existing customers. I probably had placed my expectations too high. Am I the only one? Next time I will buy a Nexus again.
Xiaomi uses Miui rom. There is no mutch different between MM based miui and Lollipop based miui.
Miui have most features of MM has already.

IMO, they have too many devices to support. Just look at this table:

Many vendors only support their devices for 1 year, some 2, but here you can see Mi2S which is almost 3 years old and is still a supported device. I don't think Xiaomi has big enough development team to maintain all of those devices to match current base Android version. Moreover, they're advertising MIUI, which should have the similar experience between supported devices regardless the base Android version. 3 devices are already out with MM (still beta?), just wait for Mi4c turn. What features do you need from MM anyway?
"What features do you need from MM anyway?" My thoughts exactly.
Looking at the new features of MM, the ones that are interesting are the memory manager, per-app permissions and battery management. These are all things MIUI has built in already. Which probably also makes it that much harder to integrate into a new MIUI version.
Most of the other changes are cosmetic and most likely would not be reflected in MIUI anyway, when the MM update does come out.
or you can install TS CM13 - built by TS team or TS broken OS. They are 6.0 MM and pretty stable now. Great team with great supports and speed.
Sent from my Mi-4c using Tapatalk
The only real feature M offers over L is SD card as internal storage. Since Mi4c has no external storage you aren't missing anything. MIUI already does a Doze feature killing everything in the background.
Doze, per app permission and memory management are thé most wanted feature un MM.
MIUI is good and I don't criticize his developping team very active. I am only mad at Xiaomi marketing team making announcements and not complying.

Like a few of us mentioned so far, those features have been built into MIUI for a long time already. So rejoice, you have your most wanted features
On a serious note, it's probably reasonable to assume the MM rollout will follow the release of the new flagship, the Mi 5. Which I think is like a day or two away. You can bet that'll be released with the latest MIUI iteration of android.

Please provide at least 1 quote from Xiaomi officials that said Mi4c will get MM soon.
And no.. gizchina "xiaomi mm devices updates schedule" is not official.
i use Broken that is 6.0 and it works perfectly...

i believe it's a matter of time before the mi4c reveives marshmallow... but judging from xiaomi history mm won't come anytime soon... i'd estimate (personally) early autumn the soonest......
Am I the only one that think Xiaomi won't update Mi4c to MM?

I guess so. Since Mi 3/4/5/Note get it, there's no reason to skip Mi 4C/4S/Note Pro/any other still supported devices. However, they seem to be in a discussion now, for supporting newer Android base with locked bootloader or stay with older one with unlocked bootloader.
Why shouldn't it get MM? The Mi4S just got released and should therefore get it, which is very similar to the Mi4C.
Maybe they will update Mi4c straight forward to "N" just like Mi4 which jumped lollipop to MM.

you can use smartlock after install xposed framework and xMIUI xposed module. You have to be rooted though...
Smartisan is one of the few Chinese manufacturers that pays serious attention to its design. The design of Nut pro 2 is quite stunning. More importantly, the specs is quite decent, 4+64, 6+64, 6+128 and 6+256, and i personally will like to go for the 6+128 version、5.99 Inch、Qualcomm Snapdragon 660、Face ID Recognition、USB Type C&OTG&Bluetooth 5.0
What do you guys think?

Yes, the other day i ask one Chinese online retailer if they can install the google play for us before shipping, they said yes, of course. Here is their selling the 6gb+128gb version: https://www.coolicool.com/smartisan-u3-pro-nut-pro-2-6gb-ram-128gb-rom-qualcomm-snapdragon-660-22ghz-octa-core-599-inch-corn-g-47748
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I own it.
Hi guys, I own and love everything about this phone. The design is fantastic, camera is great, screen is superb and the battery life is brilliant etc... There are a few work arounds I'm still having to get used to coming from an iphone, but there really are very few drawbacks.
The few niggly things (being based in the UK) are:
- I can't use Android pay as it doesn't pass Android safety net. Looking online this seems to be true of a lot of Chinese phones and all of Smartisans. This one is a biggie to me.
- All 4 app doesn't work on the phone
- Some of the unread badges (WhatsApp for example) don't show up on the stock OS. I believe this is an Android thing though? Same for no easy way to copy and paste images...
- it says 3G on the network even when you're getting 4G signal and speeds (I tested them using speed test).
Other than these though I couldn't be happier. Especially for the money. The phone really is beautiful, more so than I was expecting.

Are you still happy with this device? Seems to offer most bang for the buck of all chinese upper midrange phones. Do you have any major problem with notifications, whatsapp for instance?
Google play market is installed directly without any messing around, but were you able to find a way to root it?

Hi there, I’m using this phone for about 6 weeks now and I’m happy with it too.
For the money it’s a great device, looking beautifully. The 128/6GB variant is very smooth in all situations.
It’s easy to install Google from the Smartisan store, search for gugi app and afterwards you’ll find Play Services an Play Store working.
Screen and battery life are great, 4g is displayed now (after update) when receiving 4g signal. Before it always said 3g.
Sound quality is average, the camera is not bad but I expected a bit more from it (less pronounced colors, a little less contrast and less noise in some occasions). It seems the hardware of the camera is good enough, it just needs further tweaking in my opinion (i am a camera nerd, owning Vivo Xshot before).
I received already 4 updates, mainly for tweaking and stability but I never encountered a crash so far.
Idea Pills, Big Bang are nice to haves, software features are good but some are not so easy to find out. As are the settings for Google apps.
Notifications of WhatsApp is working for me, however you do need to change settings in the app manager otherwise Messenger and WhatsApp for instance freeze at 5 minutes after closing the app (for battery savings). Therefor it’s important to get settings right.
All in all I think for the money it’s a good buy.
I just received this phone with a "global rom" but now it will not update. Does anyone know where I can find the stock ROM and the update procedure. Thanks in advance

I've recieved my Smartisan Nut Pro 2 Smartphone this week! I was so impressed. This is really one of the best looking (and performing) Smartphones.
But as @reefmonger I have the same problem with the fist OTA update I recieved.
It will download, but when installing it just comes back with: Error --> Press Volume UP + Power button to return...
I'm looking for a way / file to install the update manual. It's about Version 4.1.6. I'm now running V4.0.4.
Hope anyone has got an idea or better: the solution

I am thinking this problem is created by Gearbest customizing the stock smartisan ROM. See 5:28 point of this video

Hi there,
I think it is Gearbest ROM related.
Mine is from Joybuy with original ROM and so far I received 4 successful updates.
Even with Play Store installed from Smartisan market.

Thnx All.
I Already discovered it is ROM/ version related.
I wanted to update manual to the new version and then the bootloader said it was a wrong version ...
I should be xxxxxxx (forgot the name) and I have the xxxxxxx.hawai version ...
So a difference in Chinese / Global / international version ??
I'll take a look at the youtube film a poster added earlier ...

I just ordered the 6GB/64GB version which apparently has the new rom with OTA support. It arrives on Wednesday. I really love how customisation the OS is! Just a shame we can't have Android Pay working in the UK!
What are they doing now?

I have used thier flagsship for 2016 before (Smartisan M1L for 1 year), and now I am using this Nut Pro 2 and have been using it for about 3 months;
There are some points I think you need and others need to know:
1) Smartisan does not upgrade Android version. so if your phone released with Android 7.1.1, it will stick with forever; but they update the security patches after few of monthes ( 4-12 months )
so don't expect big updates, the maximum update size you will get is 400GB
2) The old phones get the new features (related to softwaare) that packeged in the newest phones, no matter what version of Android is.
3) The Nut Pro 2's camera is very sensitive, mine' camera glass got wrekt but it is still functioning and no any effect to the quality
4) Updates changelog always in chinese, but you can translate it using Big Bang feature.
5) others around you can hear the voice of the caller or the one you are talking to with vie Nut Pro 2.
6) the company is going to release another new phone in April, you can check thier official forums http://bbs.smartisan.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=182
I hope it is flagship, I will buy it and sell my Nut Pro 2 then
7} there is upcoming major update ( Software version 4.5.0 and size will not be higher than 400GB unless you are on very old ROM) - mine is now on version 4.1.7.1 (the latest version for now)
the chinese people are testing the beta now.
8) you can delete 90% of the bloatware and some of main apps such as the primitive calculator.
9) You cannot root the smartisan phones, at least not the new phones.

I notice you can flash the official rom with a flash cable. I ordered one which has arrive. Zi Reviews has posted a how to on his youtube.
Ok I flashed the official software using a deepflash cable. I am now on the 4.1.7.1 build which is awesome. Was really easy to do I don't like the shop rom at all!
I'm looking for information about this phone, as I'm considering buying one to replace an ageing Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.
Specifically I'm trying to find out if this phone will receive the upgrade to Android 11, when it comes out (I can purchase it with Android 10 installed).
I'd also like to know if it will actually receive OS updates at all, eg security updates.
I've tried emailing the company directly several times but either receive no reply at all, a canned response that doesn't answer my questions, or mixed-up answers that don't seem to be related to my questions at all.
I've also noted that the X8 doesn't seem to be on Google's list of Certified devices (https://storage.googleapis.com/play_public/supported_devices.html), and again, a question to Ulefone about this is ignored.
Hopefully someone here knows some information about this phone and company?
Or has anyone got any experience with the Armor X8?
As an alternative - if anyone can recommend an IP68 phone (preferably a rugged phone) that has a smaller than 6" screen (preferably smaller than 5.5"), which is Android 10/11 compatible (ie will receive upgrades), has an SD card slot, and has chip/memory specs significantly better than the Xperia Z5 Compact, I'd appreciate it.

I got it for my wife a few days ago.
It is a certified device.
Whether it will support official updates or not, since it comes with Android 10 and having a Mediatek chipset, it shouldn't be too hard to port newer releases to it. There's some thread here about that for the Armor 6 IIRC.
Overall I'd say it's one of the best phones you can get for its price.

The Armor 8 is on Google's list - but not the X8. Do we think for certain that they're the same under the skin?
I'm not much of a modder/rooter, generally quite happy with the stock OS, but I do like to receive the security updates, and OS upgrades when they're available. Maybe having a Sony has spoilt me?
They are most definitely not the same under the skin (the X8 is newer and slightly less powerful), but I have had it in my hands and it is certified.

Without wishing to be argumentative ( ) - what's telling you it's certified?
Google Play says it's certified (bottom row, "dispositiu certificat" = "certified device")

Good stuff!
Have you received any security updates or OS upgrades?
Considering she's had it for 10 days...
No, no system updates yet.
Just for reference: I received this, rather abrupt email from Ulefone today:
Hello,
Armor X8 will receive the security updates for Android 10, but cannot upgrade to Android 11.
Best regards

Subject: Re: Fw: Android updates and upgrades
Hi,
Can you confirm if the Armor X8 will receive security updates for Android 10?
Will other phones from Ulefone receive an upgrade from Android 10 to Android 11?
Is it just the Armor X8 that will not receive any upgrades?
Many thanks

I think I'll be looking elsewhere for my next phone.
I know this is an older thread...
but here are the official Android 11 files for the Armor x8, also linked from their support site:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wh8BOdNX0aMUDdOt66FyiktFyq5BIZ7t
They state you will brick it...I just did mine 10 minutes ago, works like a charm! and no more ADUPS !!

ditto .... this being an older thread
treb42 do you know if your updatable phone was a SH1 or SH2 model as disclosed at the bottom of settings/about phone?
Has anyone else tried to update this for SH1 or SH2 models (or is this irrelevant and I am barking up the wrong tree)
Looking at the warning on the upload page my "guess" is its associated with the SH1 (same column) and no such warning sits under SH2.
Great little tough-phone and I'm using adb to manage ADUPS but I'd prefer to banish it to the deepest depths of hell
