T-Mobile Alcatel Pixi 7 (9006w) - What is safe to keep from ota.zip? - General Questions and Answers

I captured the URL for today's OTA update on the T-Mobile Alcatel 9006w via logcat
Code:
wget -O 9006W-2ATBUS1-ota-update.zip http://g2slave-us-east-01.tctmobile.com/19d1572684cd9a2cfee8b0389e135120c36553fe/f74753b81536196fc732138ea00da035c00b8280/105022/69647
I want to use this and a system dump to create a stock rooted .zip, and possibly a separate firmware update.
I am pretty sure I can handle getting /system into a flashable .zip, but I have no idea where to start with a flashable firmware update. I have no clue where to start in order to make sure we don't break fastboot and/or TWRP.
Does anyone have any experience pulling the good stuff out of an OTA?

We should first get a flashable stock .zip. Then a flashable update .zip. We can always make a flashable firmware .zip later.

Im currently working on a modified update.zip for us. I should know in a little bit how it all goes.

Ill know in a couple minutes here. You'll need to flash back to stock before doing the update.zip though. You can do the update through twrp np. Keep your fingers crossed.

Nah, no go.

Dam. Hopefully we can get something soon. Wish I had one that was stock so I could see if ota breaks fastboot

So I took the plunge. I fastbooted stock recovery and stock system.img. downloaded the update and installed it. I still had fastboot, was able to flash twrp and get root with the new update!

When I tried that I downloaded update then hit install. It just reboots to bootloader and not the system. Did yours hang where you have to hold the up and power button to reboot?

No. You have to reflash the stock recovery else the update won't start. Or it'll go to twrp and do nothing.

Anyway of making a video about how to do this?

I recently got a notification to download a newer update. I'm in the process of reverting to stock and allow the update to proceed. I would like to get a stock system image once that has completed. Please advise the best way to do this so that I can share it.
Thanks.

Try setting it back to download mode and reflash recovery. If you can get to download mode its not really bricked. Just a soft brick.
Look for Qball77 link for how to root and how to unroot. All download files and instruction in his videos are super easy to follow.

Did you factory reset in recovery after flashing the stock image? Use section 2 in this guide for returning back to stock. If all else fails, you can try this one.

What Windows OS are you using? Google has quite a few related result such as this. If it's early in the odin process like that thread, you can just unplug and pull the battery. Maybe try rebooting the computer and a different USB port?

Doesn't matter anymore, I skipped that part mainly because it was optional. Still got a bootloop, maybe the bootchain was the cause?

im assuming you have a xt925? where did you get a "17/10/2013" version for the 925?
i haven't seen any new versions, maybe i missed it.
The version doesn't matter because the problem is that you need to boot immediately into the custom recovery directly from boot loader the first time and disable the flash recovery script. The OS will overwrite the stock recovery every boot otherwise.
damn i missed that...knew that was stock and not an error, i fail lol

After you push/install the recovery you need to "reboot recovery" the first time, not reboot to system.
My comment is asking if you have the right recovery. I see the date on your recovery is new, I'm making sure you are not trying to flash a 926 recovery if you have a 925. You didn't say what model you have.

I see now you have a 925 as I suspected, my concern was that you have the right recovery also. I haven't seen any new version for the 925, maybe I missed it. Just make sure you have a 925 recovery or it may not work right or at all.
The edit date in your script for the recovery was yesterday that's why I asked.

i think you just need to put
fastboot reboot recovery
where you have fastboot reboot. you have to make it reboot directly into recovery, if it boots to system the new recovery is gone.

You aren't doing anything wrong!
Twrp doesn't recornize the file system because it is a block device image.
Do a full wipe including system, flash the zip file.
Reboot.
Ignore the twrp error!

Do you know a way to fix this, and thanks for replying
So you want to reflash your phone to make it stock again?
If that's the case you can download the newest stock files from sammobile (WARNING SLOW ASS DOWNLOAD)
Once you've downloaded the latest firmware you can flash it to your phone with odin, it will make your phone stock again
Once you have done that, go into the recovery and factory reset. (By holding the powerbutton+home+volume up whist the phone is turned off)
This will however wipe your data. I advice you to make a backup beforehand.
Then just setup the phone like a new phone, or restore it from a backup on samsung's cloud (if you have a backup there).
Hope this helped.

When you flash a custom recovery, you need to boot to recovery on your first reboot, otherwise your phone will override it. Flash your custom recovery again, and when you restart your phone, hold volume up, power and home button.

recovery is not seandroid enforcing <- this text means you have custom recovery.
But as the guy said s6 replaces the custom recovery as soon as you reboot it after flashing custom recovery,so you need to boot back in recovery mode(hold the vol up,power, home button as soon as it reboots).
and just go to any website (sam mobile and download the suitable stock rom for your mobile, country p.s slow download)
have you disabled knox before trying to root it or before flashing stock rom with odin?
try to put it in download mode then flash that stock rom
and as you said its in boot loop, you can fix it,its not bricked

Can't Boot Into LP After Flashing Firmware With TWRP & Fastboot

Hi
I have a Moto G 4G (Peregrine, XT1039) and I'm trying to install some stripped down stock ROMS, which I will be then encrypting under Android. One ROM I particularary liked was lost101's optimised version, but no matter what encrypting thr device just never worked. I have tried flashing unpackaged stock ROMS via mfastboot and have also tried flashing zips in TWRP. However, presently every time I reboot/boot the device it just goes straight into TWRP.
Will
Have you tried: Identity Crisis 6 LTE ?
Also there is a Stock ROM debloat script: [SCRIPT][CWM] NoMoto - Stock ROM Debloat Scripts (KitKat | Lollipop)

I already tried the Identity Crisis 6 but the encryption didn't work. Even ignoring the fact the encryption doesn't work my phone still booted into TWRP after flashing Identity Crisis 6 LTE.

How do you get the ROM to boot then?
The ROM still isn't working. The flash seems successful but always boot straight into TWRP.

Select system I suppose. Shall I go back into the recovery from being off, or shall I repeat the flash procedure then do the above?

Use the Bootloader option in TWRP, as shown in the screenshot.

It looked promising. Vibrates and stays on Google pad lock screen then went back into TWRP. However, I repeated it again a second time and if by magic it works.
What I don't get is why it's working but not with the stock LP ROMS? Also why the 'system' option didn't work from the reboot screen within TWRP?

This method should work with all ROMs. I've seen this problem before reported by users. You may have to live with it, if reflashing TWRP makes no difference. I think it may be a symptom of corruption on the phone that cannot be repaired.

So basically after a flash select
'Reboot System> Bootloader > Normal Powerup'?

No. In TWRP:
Reboot > Bootloader > Normal Powerup
or maybe just:
Reboot > System

How much of a difference did changing the file system to EXT4 for the cache and system partitions, because obviously whilst wiping in TWRP I didn't receive any more mount errors?

The default filesystem is ext4 for system. Only /data is f2fs.
Now that is sorted I need to make sure the encryption function works.

Why is in the original thread I received error messages saying the those partitions couldn't be mounted? By the way I would like to participate in making a guide for all this help I've received. It'll be useful for others so they don't mess anything up like I did.

Rebooting TWRP usually solves those mounting issues.
