Hi all... and sorry for my bad English ;-)
I've got an HTC G1. When I try to start it, nothing happens. Only the backlight turns on ... What can I do?
do you have a rooted g1 with recovery and engineering SPL?
No, it isn't rooted...
Is it brand new? I think you should be able to exchange it, if you got it from a store that is; unless you got it from online then you will have to contact the website and see where that goes.
No, it isn't brand new. Someone gave it to me... So i can't exchange it.
Try to boot it thru camera+power holding. Wont help you if success but at least will tell you where the problem.
if he can go to recover mode screen wont remain completely black as far as i know. Because splashscreen appear before recover (or other) mode starts. I might be wrong of course.
If I try to go into the recovery mode thru camera + power button, nothing happens. Only the backlight turns on (black screen with backlight & keyboard backlight...)
Follow first 6 steps in this form...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
tihs should boot your G1.... then if you want go on ahead with other rooting steps to root your g1..
I tried the first 6 steps, but it won't work. I think I can't entry bootloader mode. On step #4 (...)You should see a gray/white screen with instructions(...)
nothing happens on my Phone. :S
Isn't it possible, to flash the bootloader/firmware over USB or something like that?
*push* no solution?
are you sure the phone does not boot? Does it rumble when you first turn it on?
I have a similar problemb, but my phone will completely boot and work, but the lcd does not work it stays black. i can move apps around (they rumble when you pick one up), and i can recieve calls.
I was able to get it to occasionally boot with the lcd working by rebooting the phone with call+menu+power. It worked long enough to reflash the rom to rc29, and boot into it. Then it died shortly after.
mine is going to htc.
Yes, it does rumble when I turn it on, but I think it doesn't boot. So I can't "move apps around" or "recieve calls"
And I can't use the warranty, because I'm swiss.
another way to tell if it actually boots is plug it into a pc after giviing it enough time to boot, and listen for the usb connection notification sound your phone should make.
just trying to help you narrow it down. When i am contacted by HTC i will be sure to try and get as much info from then as possible. hopefully ill get something that might help you.
Since you wont have to worry about voiding your warranty, I also suggest snagging the factory service manual and make sure all the flex cables/connectors pertaining to the lcd are properly connected. This, of course, is under the idea that you have the same problem as me.
good luck
When I plug the phone over usb into a PC, the pc find it as "HTC Android Phone USB Device".
Hmm I don't think, that the LCD is broken, because the backlight turns on... If the lcd is broken, the backlight won't turn on, right?
the backlight on mine would also stay on. then again my lcd worked intermittenly at first and proceded to work less and less, but the backlight would remain on. However, I think your problem differs from what I encountered.
The fact that your pc recognizes the phone means the usb controller is working, but thats about it... I am just trying to find out for sure if you phone boots or not. That will help narrow down the problem for sure.
Have you tried calling it from another number?
It also never hurts to take a peek at the factory service manual... if you havent already
thank you. hmm... I think I can't recieve phonecalls.. but I'm not sure. (I tried it, but yeah i don't know. xD it doesn't rumble or something like that...) Is it possible to have "remote" on the phone? So I can use it over the PC?
They have shipped my phone back. Apparently the screen dying was a side effect of the keyboard going bad...The keypad did not give me any problems though. I was told they replaced the keypad FPC (part no: 73H20137-41M, pg#102 in the service manual). They replaced nothing else.
Unforutnately they did not have any more info to give me. In your case, i would suggest opening it up and checking all the flex cable connections to ensure they are properly and fully attached. of course this check is not really for the faint of heart technically speaking, but it shouldnt be too bad with the service manual as a disassembly/assembly guide.
are there any tutorials how to open the g1? =)

First of all, hello everybody on this community.
I'd been reading on internet how to fix this issue, but no clue at all.
My english is not so good so I'll try to be as clear as possible.
My mother gave me a HTC Inspired 4G, it has many apps and stuffs. It was working fine but it has a lot of apps that I wouldn't be using so (here comes the stupidest idea) I decided to reset it from insight (at that moment I didn't know about the power and volume shortcut).
After I did it, it reset itself then after everything seems normal, I unlocked the screen and then the whole screen turned to black. I could still see the time, date and also open the upper menu, but when I pressed Menu or any button, it just vibrate and nothing happens. Also I got a few errors like xxxx stopped working.
I can manage it to open Config menu, but I can't do much, I tryied to add my wifi connection but when I press the white space to put the password, then keyboard wont display. Also when it used to get stuck on Rethink Possible, but after plug in the cellphone to my laptop I could pass it. Now I removed the microsd and won't need to be plug it for that.
So right now, I can't download anything, I don't know how to fix it or return it the way it used to be.
I don't know anything about root and all those stuffs.
But I learn fast, so any link, tutorial, tips or guidance for these issues, I'll make good use of it.
What I have to do in order to make it work.
Thank you very much in advance.
Do you know what software version you are running, whether the phone is unlocked or rooted, or any other details?
It says 2.3.3 if that what you mean, also I don't know exactly what rooted means but if I'm not mistaken, my cellphone is rooted.
When I turned on by pressing volume and power buttons, I get some kind of options like fastboot and so on, also when I choose Recovery, I get something called Ace Hack Kit, I don't know what's for. I see many options but I can't figure it out which one would help me with this.
It's obvious something been done on this cellphone but I though since I reseted it, everything would be deleted.

What do those options say exactly when you press power and volume?
Looking for a quick fix here as I can't go to the service centre and get a replacement until at least Tuesday, and I need my phone working before then. I'm hoping someone else has had the same problem and can help me out.
My Moto G froze and became unresponsive (while I was refreshing my Gmail inbox) and it would not accept any input. I held down the power button and the power menu opened, however when I tried to power it off, it wouldn't accept my touch input. So obviously the next course of action was to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to force a reboot. The Motorola logo appeared and the phone vibrated... then it did nothing.
I tried this a few times and still nothing happened. I am able to boot into the bootloader, but apart from that, the phone goes only so far into the boot cycle before the screen goes black and does nothing.
Motorola's website suggests that if the Moto G becomes unresponsive, and the regular 10 second reset doesn't work, you should hold the power button for 120 seconds and keep it plugged in to a charger. This didn't work either. As of right now, my phone is just sitting here on my desk with what I would call a 'black screen of death.' Help would be appreciated.
I cannot boot into recovery, I cannot access anything. The phone is stock, unrooted, and running KitKat 4.4.2 without any modifications whatsoever. It's about 5 months old now, so it's still covered by warranty and I don't want to void it.

Can you boot into bootloader mode and use adb command from a pc? If yes, maybe you can try to flash a stock recovery img file via your pc to phone.

Would that require unlocking my boot loader though? I don't want to void my warranty, especially considering I did nothing to the phone and it's currently unresponsive.
I am not sure - but my guess is that bootloader needs to be unlocked to install custom recovery to "recover" & backup userdata before flashing the entire original stock firmware; that's usually the first step we see in all those modding guide in different forums online.

I suppose you can also contact motorola support to see if they can help you recover your data before getting the phone fixed or replaced under their warranty program.
I accidentally made two posts one here

and the other here

Both posts ask the same questions. but are in the wrong place so can be deleted if in wrong place, my apologies.
I need my phone for alarms to remind me when to take my various meds.
My screen is stuck in bootloader unlocked scren and i cannot switch it off. No access to settings
Somehow i managed to get it into twrp screen but I dont know how I did it, and i didnt know which option to choose after swiping, so screen went back to 'bootloader unlocked scren'
I got back in again to twrp screen but dunno how, and chose reboot, but screen just went totally black, but still on if you know what I mean.
I cannot seem to get it back into twrp screen
I an very tech naiive and routed my phone to get rid of bloatware by watching some very comprehensive indian guys videos.
I cannot understand all the jargon.
I also downloaded 'unlocked bootloader warning fix' but it got stuck at cmd screen, kept saying 'waiting for device' and I didnt even know whether to plug the phone into the laptop or not.
Plus my battery runs out quick.
Dunno how i managed to get it back to TWRP, dont even understand TWRP, what option would I choose on TWRP to get me back into my phone as I rely on it heavily.
I use the alarms and reminders as I have bad adhd, and really need them, a paper diary doesnt cut it, I also need reminding when to take my meds, but without my phone i cant.
So, if anyone can help me get back into twrp then into my phone by teling me what to press I will be greatful. I dont have access to the settings as it is stuck on bootloader unlocked screen.
thanks in advance and remember your talking to a tech dummy who came here cos her screen is locked, lol and thanks for reading and your kind help in advance.
two people also asked on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto...rning-t3169916 but no answers.
many thanks and sorry for the dupliate or similar posts.
I'm trying to figure out a way to make a few edits to my system partition without unlocking my bootloader (no TWRP available anyways) and I found a setting to enable ADB in the STOCK Recovery.
I've been able to use it to sideload an app, but was wondering how to install an app to the system partition... without having to push the entire partition PLUS the added app....
does anyone know actual SPECIFICS about the boot options on the bootloader menu? I have managed to get stuck in some strange developer mode twice now, and am actually getting a little worried I'll royally mess this up.
One developer mode I booted into never loaded SystemUI- lock screen loaded the picture, never got any text (after 20mins waiting). Held power for a minute, device booted back into the bootloader menu.
the other developer mode I toggled somehow turned all my radios off on boot, turned them on one by one, notification CQOA or similar was starting up. Then a bunch of information in a text mode style flew across the screen on top of my desktop. Again, I held power down and got the heck outta there. I had to go back into bootloader menu and select Recovery and hit VolUp and Power to get a usable menu and then recovered from there.
all this exploring just has me curious as all hell what is possible through these menus. If I had another G7Power, I would be going as far down this rabbit hole as possible... but this is my only device at this time, so I am quite concerned I'll manage to break something and not recover....
at one point, using ADB in Recovery, I was able to get my ADB shell in root mode.... but I didn't realize the # meant root worked. And I haven't been able to get that working like that again.
EDIT: I still have the CMD window open from Friday night when I started this, otherwise I wouldn't have ever realized I had root for a few minutes in ADB
END EDIT
I want to make a few edits to build.prop without having to flash the whole partition.
My bootloader is LOCKED.
I literally just had an OTA last weekend.
am I being trolled by Moto on this? like, it looks like it is doing stuff, or COULD do stuff, but is actually nerfed? It seems like there has to be a secret key combo or something to get these menus to actually work.... it also looks like it is possible to switch to USERDEBUG if only for a single boot.
Any ideas are appreciated!

I never said it was.
These menus appear to be useful for gaining access to various things. If a good source posted a response "these menus have already been scoured for any usefulness for people like us" I would leave it alone.
If I *was* to share my own experiences with what those various items can do, would you say this isn't the place to post that information? Please clarify- I honestly don't want to post on the wrong sub. Thank you.

As per the thread title: This thread is for development purposes only. All questions should should be asked in the Q&A thread
I dunno but I can tell you the SUPRA from cricket does not support bootloader unlock or root right now, and probably never will, I bought one but i will probably sell it off or gift it and buy the Power or G7 Plus with the money typically with moto you just go to the motorola bootloader unlock page enter your fastboot and type oem get_unlock_code or whatever it gives you a string you put it together and paste that in the moto bootloader page and they provide an unlocked bootloader boot.img you do get the code however when you put it in it gives you message that the phone cannot be unlocked thanks alot cricket, and Att I dont mind your service here but I want to be able to flash custom roms so I will just order a moto from swappa or straight from moto so i can do what I want with the phone, considering these are prepaid and you buy them out right it should not even be legal to keep the locked really, wish some attorney that had this stuff as a hobby would help us out it is flat out wrong to tell me I cannot unlock my bootloader its not like I owe anything on the phone thru cricket in the first place its paid for in full.
