best way to clean phone after new rom install - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive been away from the mod scene for a while but finally getting back in to it. quick question
whats the best way to clean a phone? i bought this opo off ebay and still has old users pictures and apps on it. its already rooted and i installed a new custom rom just today. do i need to wipe internal storage from recovery or does that wipe the os also? should i factory reset inside android? that used to be a no no :silly:

Just do the internal storage wipe and you should be fine

isnt the OS on the internal drive though? or different partition?

i went ahead and wiped the internal storage from the recovery and rebooted and all clean. thanks! :good:

[Q]Backups will not work with clockwork mod anymore please help

I tried installing cyanogen mod 10.1 and it was acting ridiculous just contiously showing boot logo so then I decided to format the sd card and try it again, still did not work. Then I formatted my sd card again and then tried to restore a backup but it stops at system, tried it 4 differnet times and one time from another memory card and it got farther and it just stops at /data and says error and then it just will not work. Anybody else having this problem?
cm10 install jelly bean on your system. so you may need to install a stock rom or go back to stock. also before you do anything you need to select usb debugging as cm10 has it off by default, otherwise you wont be able to do anything at all.
Still need help...

formatting sd card will not work...
you got to boot in recovery mode and clear data, cache before and after rom install.
then you will no problem.
Also did that toward the dalvik

Where are you storing your back-ups ? Did you at any point change or update to a new CWM recovery ? I ran into a problem when I formatted my sd and updated to a newer version of CWM.
My back-ups ended up being deleted, and I started over. Formatted sd card, formatted system, data, cache - reinstalled the latest version of CWM, and have not had a problem since.
It worked for me - cannot take credit, or expect it to work for everyone - but, it is what I did
please use any details above at your own risk - do not know if anything can happen, but prefer to let you know
good luck
Isn't it so that u have to put your backup on the internal sdcard in the folder SDCard/Clockeworkmod/backup ?
That was my problem with a backup...after ireinstalled and put it in this folder my backup worked...

I've always stored my back-ups on external SD, it is an option in CWM

HELP. Can't Mount SDcard

I was flashing over clean rom from my old paranoid android and I was stupid and formated my sd card from the fastboot screen on the phone. I read on XDA that the thing to do is mount, format on computer, place rom on sdcard and install.
The rom is currently on my sd card after I formatted from computer. I am in TWRP and was under install and found the rom zip but it tells me "This operation may install incompatible software and render your device unuseable"
I stopped to ask before I make an expensive paperweight. How do I proceed?
I've never seen twrp say that... I wiped my SD card back in the day and can't remember anything like that. Are you on 1.14 Hboot? Maybe you need to adb boot.IMG first? As long as your sure its Evita ROM should be ok

This is normal. In the last 3 days I've flashed Roms back and forth and twrp WILL list this but only as a warning. It's perfectly fine. It's like a condition to cover everyone's butt except yours, since you (the owner) have taken the opportunity to change software on your phone.
If you've gotten to that screen that means you got the Rom on your sd card. Don't forget to wipe all data and a reset ALL inside of twrp. Flash away!

So I should install and then wipe cache, factory, system... etc ? Everything wiped?

Reverse the order you typed in your last post. Some Roms give that option before its flashed. However, just do it yourself. Clear cache, dalvick cache, wipe system and then factory reset ALL INSIDE twrp. Don't factory reset outside of twrp.
THEN install Rom from twrp. Notice the warning you mentioned and simply follow the install directions.

Good lord this is terrifying. haha so I installed it and now its bootlooping. I wiped in that order and everything.
NVM. Got it!! My heart stopped lol. Thanks guys.

[Q] Going back to stock....

So I flashed CM 10.1 nightly 20130101 on mt GT-P5113. Its alright, but without any overclocking built in its no good to me, so I want to go back to stock. I did make a backup in CWM before flashing the new rom. How do i go about this?
Never mind, i got it.
How did you do it sir? Just restore from backup without wiping data? Thanks.
Backup brings the old data and system partition so no wipe

Erase tablet before sale. rooted

Hi,
Quick question, I currently have a TAB 2 - 7" that I have sold to someone. Before I hand the device over I want to ensure my contents is wiped.
What exactly is the process of that on a rooted device? I am running JB AOKP, I don't necessary want to put the device back to the stock rom I'd leave it rooted just want all my personal info of it.
Help is greatly appreciated!
Go to recovery > format system/data/cache and internal sd card and flash the same rom

Okay so I do need to reflash the rom after doing the format of system/data and cache?
Can I put a more recent ROM on it as well just to get it up to date for the next person?
Sure, important is the reflash of a ROM, after the format of /system is no OS on the tab.

Great, thank you.
Any recommendations on a stable ROM that's running JB 4.2.2? I guess thats the latest/last release for these tablets for JB?
CM10.1 is stable enough and its on 4.2.2, latest stockroms have 4.1.2.

** Gotta remember to download the CM zip and Gapps to the internal sd card prior to doing all of this!!**
I would do the zips on external sd, you do a wipe of your internal sd

Excellent idea!! I guess the entire wiping of data I am still confused about what exactly gets wiped or not, does clockwork stay?
Does that mean I need to put clockwork on there as well? Or just the new rom and gapps?
Clockwork stays, no worries

Okay.. I'll report back tonight how bad I make out
LOL thanks for all your help! Really appreciated
So I did a format system, format data and format cache.
Prior to that I had placed the zip files on the external card.
While still in clockwork I go to 'choose zip from external sdcard' and click to install the CM10.1 but it once it starts I get a error saying..
Cant open external_sd/cm-10.1.... (bad)
Whats up lol? Bad download?
Seems so, try other Download/ROM

No idea..
I booted into recovery. Did a format of system/data/cache.
I am still in CWM never rebooted or anything yet since I did the format.
Put your sd on your handy and then put the rom.zip on your sd

Does the SD card require some sort of special formatting?
No
ok, believe I got it.
placed the card into my blackberry re-transferred the rom and gapps zip to the sd card. Moved sd card back into the device. Mounted it inside CWM.
The stuff installed, I did a data wipe/factory reset as the instructions said. Now its booting into CyanogenMod
Will report shortly with results!

[Q] Does wiping /data in TWRP 2.8.0.0 wipe internal sd on our OPO?

Hello everyone. I want to flash the 38R OTA update which our devices are getting. But it seems I have made some changes in my system because of which I am thinking of clean flashing 33R zip through twrp first amd then the 38R. So my doubt is regarding the various wipe options in twrp. What does each wipe option do (specifically on our device)? Or else if you bored to answer that questiom then just tell me what does /data wipe? Does it include internal sd too? I read on galaxy nexus forum that it wipes internal and there are mixed answers everywhere so I am confused.
I'm on an earlier version of TWRP but I'm assuming that the options in the advanced wipe menu are the same:
Cache
Dalvik Cache
System
Data
Internal Storage
Wiping data only wipes the system data partition, not the internal storage.

I beg to differ. I was unlocking rooting and installing new twrp for my cousin's phone, when I wiped everything except internal storage in twrp ( that includes the data) it I think wiped the CyanogenMod too. Because after wiping and rebooting, there was no ROM to load, only oneplus logo and that's it. So I think the data option wipes ROM too.

When you wiped everything except internal storage, you wiped system too which wiped the rom part. Secondly, unlocking bootloader deletes your data from internal sd.

Lol. Dude, you're the one that messed up. You wiped /system, of course there's no CM left after that. We're talking about internal storage, not /system. Maybe you need to do a bit more research before you attempt anything else on your phone, just to make sure you're confident with what you're doing.
