XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition 2.2 >> 2.3 - Data/Factory reset? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I wanted to update the custom rom XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition on my Galaxy S6 from Version 2.2. to 2.3 but I do not want to set up my phone again, as I did that some weeks ago. So my question is now what exactly does the Data/Factory Reset do? Is all data being deleted? Do I have to install all apps again? And is it necessary, cannot the old version be overwritten?
Regards
Haris

Did this a few days ago.
All apps/settings etc. get wiped, everything except your photos and .mp3s, in fact.
You will have to set it up again, but it's not that much work, i think.
All your apps you can reinstall in one load thru the Play store, as it remembers your downloads and purchases,
export your contacts as a .vcf file and restore them with a few clicks later.
Dirty flashing may be possible, but since the developer himself recommends a swipe/reset, i'd stick with this.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will try the Titanium Backup app. This should solve my problem, if a wipe is necessary.

I successfully installed the newer version 2.3. and restored the phone with Titanium Backup Pro. Everything has been restored fine except the Alliance framework app. I cannot find it. Isnt it force installed by Aroma?
Also, when I put in my headset the app bar which offers you apps for headset use does not show up. Although I activated it in Aroma Add-On. I also wanted to ask if it is possible to have the album cover as wallpaper lockscreen when listening to music and to have the music widget on the lockscreen?
I hope it is ok to use my thread for this questions, as I cannot ask directly in the custom roms thread, due to missing rights.

[Q] rooted. need help with rom flash. 2.3??

so i rooted my phone using unrevoked and it seems to work.
i got rom manager and paid for it for the premium edition.
i was trying to install 2.3 gingerbread rom downloaded from the app.
first time i did it everything was wiped and thats what i figured. but then the clock would not come up as a widget or i could not even find a widget clock but the analog one.
I then restored to my save point, got everything back and started over.
i did the flash again but opted to not remove all data. this put me in the loop death showing the gingerbread and it would not load.
restored again and now here...
can i flash a rom to 2.3 without loosing everything?
if not, how do i get the features on gingerbread like large digital clock, swipe text?
also, last question... what are some good roms that i can use out there?
can anyone help with this?
This forum is only for beginners, no one is developer..... all are begginers and they don't know anything...
no one know how to reflash,etc..
Ask this question in Google's Official Developer Forum...
Sounds to me like everything worked as it should. You need to clear data/cache before flashing a new ROM, which wipes your user data. There are apps that can be used for backing up this data, e.g Titanium Backup, which makes the transition easier.
The apps/widgets included in the new ROM may be different than the one that you used before. It will vary from ROM to ROM.

HELP

So, I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) last weekend. I had it rooted and everything was fine. Then I got rid of some of the bloatware. I wrote a couple of programs for myself to use, so I needed to enable side-loading. I did that-successfully.
First sign of a problem was when I went to the marketplace and it would not download any single app that I tried. So, I went to restore the phone using the backup I made, but some reason it wasn't there.
Then I decided to revert to factory settings. I did a hard reset, but the problem was still not resolved. Then I found a thread on here about Odin 3. I've been trying to use that all night but the best I've gotten is to the File Analysis step. I've tried at least 10 different times.
I'm trying to get everything back up and running and preferably rooted again so that I can use my Titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings.
I'm at my wits end, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Factory reset would not solve any problems that may have been caused by deleting core apps. Is your phone rooted and nand unlocked (baseband) or just rooted? Are you running a custom rom? If so you need to reflash the rom after clearing cache and dalvik cache. If you still have the original rom then you can reflash an official samsung firmware using odin, look for your handsets firmware on www.samfirmwares.com
Other than that you could try finding out which apps are needed and using root explorer you may be able to fix the version you have. If the market is your only issue then try clearing data and cache settings/manage apps/market and download manager (two different apps)
How did you root your phone? Did you install a custom ROM yet? What bloatware did you remove, and how did you go about it?
Ok. In the wee hours this morning I finally got Odin to work and now everything works as it should. I switched computers and the program worked right away. Intersting tidbit though, I accidentally left the sim card in during the reflash and I had no ill effects. I'm actually wondering if that helped me.
Thanks tina333.
nenol, I used the one touch root. I have not installed a custom rom and I don't remember exactly which of the programs I uninstalled. I used Titanium backup to both backup my apps and to delete the bloatware.
There are very few system apps that are not needed by the system, titanium only backs up data by default. Be careful what you delete and always research first

[Q] Superwipe and titanium backup and new ROM question

I'm about to install Android Revolution HD™ 3.x XE but my question is I'd like to back up my phone and apps with titanium backup and restore my phone after installing the ROM
Now I know I need to use superwipe but buy restoring everything after am I defeating the purpose of using superwipe?
I dont want to be restoring old files I may not need or could cause problems
Thanks In advance
Although I don't have a firm answer to your question, I would advise you against doing a full restore (system data and everything). I've had numerous problems such as my lock screen PIN code changing after a reboot (preventing me from logging into the phone).
Fred
I backed up using Titanium then used superwipe, after I had flashed the rom and restarted the phone all my apps automatically reinstalled. I am a noob so I am not sure how or why this would have happened. I would add that everything went very smoothly for me and the phone is running very well, absolutely no problems and I am very new to this rooting game. This website and the developers that are on it are both fantastic, a big well done to all concerned.
I just flashed arhd and restored "all apps with data" with titanium backup. everything seems to be running smoothly
Thanks for the replys, I'll probably Flash the new ROM at the weekend

Mine did the same thing. They reinstalled (most of them anyway) because google kept a record of what I had loaded from the market. The only thing is because they were reinstalled automatically the market doesn't give me the option of removing them. Is yours the same?
On a side note a while ago when I first used LeeDroids rom I used titanium backup to reinstall my apps and data. When picked my phone up the next morning (it was plugged in all night) it was red hot where something was loading the cpu up. I reinstalled the whole thing a couple more times before I realised it was either an app or the process or reinstalling them on a different rom with Titanium that was causing the load. Now I use mybackup pro and just keep my data and install the apps separately.

Just dont restore your system data as it may cause problem, only back up and restore user Apps...
Contact and SMS can be easily backed up via People and Message options.

Sometimes packages like that have been known to remove the Settings app. The only way to fix it (except factory resetting) is to flash a custom ROM, like CyanogenMod.
Wich CM can i install? Because the lastntime i've tryed it (7-8 months ago) it was really bad and buggy. Honestly i prefer the Samsung ROM.
However, can i install a new settings app? Or flash it. I need the secsettings.apk from the 4.2.2 JB Rom for i9105p. Or the only way is wipe data/factory reset? (It will wipe data and i'm scared that i can't have my settings back this way).

Well, if I had that device, you can be sure that I'd provide you with that settings app.
However, since I don't have it, I don't know of any way to obtain that app.
By any chance did you make any sort of backup any time before this issue occurred? If so, please post it for me, as I might be able to extract the app out of that.
:good:

[Q] Backing up Apps & SMS/MMS

First, I apologize if this has been answered already.
I'm currently running DH GPE Lollipop 3/6/15 due to an update issue that forced me to downgrade.
Last week I updated TWRP to the latest version, then tried flashing the most current DH GPE Rom and ran into a boot loop. 20mins with nothing happening. Restarted and reflashed, still nothing. Flashed the version I had running before and same thing. I ran a TWRP backup month ago, so I just flashed that but lost all my SMS/MMS and current apps.
My question is, what is in your opinion the best way to backup SMS/MMS and Apps?
I hear a lot of things about Titanium, but I don't find it very easy to use and complicated. Would I be able to backup Apps and my text messages with TWRP and reflash them after I install a new update?
Thanks

my best option is my backup pro.It is best for SMS/MMS/Apps/Contacts/Aps..
SMS/MMS I use this always.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
They also have call log backup too if need. Works flawless like 3 clicks

why do you say titanium is complicated?? Its quite easy. I've been using it since my Galaxy S days. Once you make your backup just move it your external sd card. I also never restore data, just user apps.
+1 om SMS Bacup and restore. I always back up to my google drive.
When I wipe my phone first app I download is Titanium, then I restore my apps, the restore my sms/mms with SMS back up and restore, takes about 20 minutes, maybe.
