Hidden LED for notifications, yet? - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Say what you will as to whether or not this device needs a notification LED (for me, personally, it would be of amazing assistance at certain times of the day), but I'm curious if any custom ROM and/or tool has figured out how to make use of the LED as anything more than a charging light. Last I heard, nobody had figured it out. A few custom ROM pages list the option, but nobody can confirm that it actually works, and I feel like those pages are more or less just copy/pasted lists from the same ROM for other phones. Anyone hear or figure anything out, yet? I'm loving the phone, but for my usage this is starting to become a major annoyance. Thanks!

According to lightflow it does have a white led, but no other color. I couldn't get it to light up during any tests. I just got my phone tiday though, and I haven't done any tweeking yet, so I'm gonna go root it, get eerything situated, and give it a better shot later. I do wish it was able to do more than white only, though. The does sort of defeat the purpose of led notifications a LOT.

The notification led doesn't do anything unless it's plugged in. No one has gotten it to do anything else.

That's just a link to the same Moto X & E LED app the other threads are pointing to. It's mostly enables the LED for charging.

[Q] How to Password Protect Android Shutdown?

Hi, I was wondering if there was any way to password protect shutting off an android phone. For example, when holding down the power button and clicking "shut down" on the popup menu, I want to have to enter a pin in order to shut off the phone. I have a Motorola Droid. I'm rooted and running CyanogenMod 7 (if it matters). Thanks!!
need the same

You have found the one thing Apple trumps Android with! My entire paradigm has just collapsed around my fragile psyche!!
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
I guess I wasn't clear enough. I just used shut down as an example, which would be flawed by a simple battery removal. What I'm actually going for, is to make the popup menu (the one with shut down, airplane mode, silent) not pop up unless the phone is unlocked. I don't want some random person to be able to pick up my phone and put it in airplane mode or silent mode. I know that it is possible, because there is actually a toggle for it in the settings of the miui rom.
Bump bump bump!!!!
Apple trumps Android???? HaHaHa
Never has, and with regard to this thread and the desire for a password protected power button," now (2012) especially.
***HTC EVO 4G LTE***
Can't remove battery... and possibly others?
I believe this app would have to restrict access to the menu that pops up to shut down, as well as override the ten second reboot feature of the EVO LTE.
Needless to say, I have searched a little first for it in the EVO LTE forum among others, but there seems to be a reason to revive this thread now!
Hope I'm not acting like a NOOB as described in the . . *ahem* . . . "Welcome" video...
If anyone read this thread and also needs/needed an answer, please bump it and/or included a link to the thread or page or anything that has a definitive answer.... I know I'm not the only one who would greatly appreciate the help!
:good:? O.K....
The Nexus 4 doesn't have a removable battery and such a feature would be great for a stolen phone.. The only way to shut it off would be to adb into it.
Im also looking for this feature to protect my Nexus 4 if atole.
Hmm...

I know I started this thread a WHILE ago...but especially since a lot of the newer phones have non-removable batteries, this seems like a must. What about some way to disable the popup that appears when longpressing the power button (with airplane mode and stuff on it) from the lockscreen. So, you would only be able to access this after unlocking the phone. This is actually been baked into the MIUI Rom, and I'm wondering why others haven't adopted it. Does anyone know if this feature could be ported? It doesn't seem like it would be that hard.
AGREE 110%
This is a HUGE flaw in the smartphone world. I'm glad my Nexus 4 has no removable battery and I feel all phones from now on should follow. Why make it easier for the thieves? I've tried to find an app or something out their with no luck. I messaged Lookout Mobile Security about this BIG issue and hopefully you guys can request it as well here https://www.lookout.com/help. Just click on Send a Request and then just sign in. Hopefully they can implement this vital feature in their security app. If theirs any smart people out their who can make this feature on their own I applaud you. Your phone will let you know where its at even if its off using Lookout online, but without out the phone screaming (a feature within Lookout that makes your phone emit a really loud sound) it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Either click on the link and let them know you want this feature or create one yourself. It just makes security apps on ANY phone totally useless without this feature.
Completely agree. I submitted a feature request as well. Let me know if you hear anything

Been all over the web looking for an app that allows this... I have an Atrix Hd and it has a non removable battery. This is an absolute must.

+1. It will be very useful to have this feature along with some anti-theft programs like Cerberus, Avast etc.,:good:
+1 This is a must, should be in the OS features

I just though about the same thing yesterday & to my surprise there is no such app. This should've been the most easiest thing to make I believe, just a pin to switch off.
Why hasn't no one thought about this??

[Q] Notification LED only stays on for 5 minutes?

This thread was posted in the Themes/Apps subforum but since no one has really looked at it I'm posing the question here for confirmation.
Is it true that the notification LED only flashes for 5 minutes? If so, is there anyway to fix that?

This does appear to be true.. I've been wondering about this too.
One would think the fix could be as easy as a "registry hack" of some kind, but I've seen no quick/dirty solution which simply changes the timeout value.
This also strikes me as FAQ material. On my previous G1, the LED blinked forever (which I prefer, subject to seeing the impact on battery life... just wish it was configurable)
EDIT: I tried the "Blink" app.. it force closes part way thru.
Yup, only 5 minutes. Ridiculous.
Is this a bug?
It has to be. There's absolutely no logical reason anyone could have designed the phone to be this way.
Absolutely ridiculous.
This 'm spoiled by the N1 trackball features! I tried Light Flow Lite but it wouldn't work...
I have the same crappy 5 minute LED notification issue on my unbranded asian Sensation. My brother just bought a Bell Canada model and his light flashes continuously so maybe there is hope that this will be fixed in a future update. If they don't fix it, I'll be pissed.
They have done it since G2, pretty stupid....can't wait for s-off.

Stupid indeed! The least they could do is give us an option to have persistent LED notification..

Notification lights

Would it be possible to make the hard keys flash for notifications considering the fact that we don't have a real one?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
It might be possible, but I don't know how useful it would be. Those lights aren't very bright so you can only really see them in a dim environment. Some people have been using NoLED from the Market.
I don't really find myself needing this, and don't see where I'd find it that useful, but I've never had a phone that had notification light, so it may just be a matter of not understanding what I'm missing.

My last three star phones have had one. This is the only thing I don't like about the charge. It's not a huge deal. I have good eyesight, so the dimness is a non issue.

Full answer is there is nothing as of now, and it would require a dev with the time and the inclination to work on it, if it is indeed possible. For now, NoLED is the only real solution if you really want the notifications.
There is a guy named neldar in the Samsung galaxy forums that has a modded kernel with backlight notification enabled and you download his app from the market to control it. I tried to put him in touch with imnuts about getting his code and mixing it into his kernels. I'm not sure what the status of that is. I don't actually know either of the guys but neldar said he could provide a patch for dev who wanted to build bln into a kernel. I would love to have bln and am also disappointed that Samsung left that basic led notification out of their design.
Will have to check that app out. My wife used to have all phones that used to have a light. That way when at work she can have her phone silent but see when a notice comes in. One of her only complaints about the charge so far. That and the GPS issue.
Glance is another free app - turns on your screen for a few seconds when you get a notification.
Market - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.danvelazco.glance
Downloaded and havent used it much but seems to do What we need it for.

Now I know why this phone is so popular. First impressions, wow!!

I posted this in the Samsung Galaxy S2 section by mistake, when I should of posted it here. Didn't realize there was 2 different sections, anyho...
I just go this phone yesterday and all I have to say is WoW. This screen and performance is just amazing. I came from an X10, obviously no camprison, the S2 is a beast (in a good way).
What has really impressed also besides the speed and screen is the following built-in stuff:
Task manager, file manager, the fact that you can add a pattern lock and don't have to slide to unlock, the music controls in the notifications, the voice call controls in the notifications, the timer/stopwatch included in the clock, the neat graphics when you cut-n-paste is cool and even the magnifier when selecting text. I'm really impressed by Samsung's attention to detail.
A few small gripes though (nothing major):
1. No LED notification
2. No dedicated Camera button
3. I wish the USB port was on the top with the 3.5mm jack. Why? When I'm playing music in my car and I have to charge it and it's plugged into the 3.5mm it's awkward to place the phone on the center console.
(but these are very minor issue compared to the gains this phones has).
And another thing I don't know why people keeping complaining about this phone's plastics. I think it's a very well built/sturdy phone.
Sony is really behind, I don't think even their new Sony S/Ion will be a match for the S2 let alone the S3.
Edit: I just found out you can do a screen capture without having to root the thing. It keeps getting better and better.
Glad you are enjoying it. I think you will continue to for a long while. Not much to not like about it huh...
If you only knew how much better it could be if you root. It would answer your 1st two complaints.

Yeah, I upgraded from an iphone 3gs about two months ago and haven't looked back! Had mine rooted within 15 min! I will never go back to apple!

I did this yesterday, I have to say it was far superior to the stock. Although I'm not sure where half the guys in your thread are getting these huge battery life improvements.

Try NoLED. It's free from on the market (er.. Play). Only one thing I would tweak: Set the app to sleep while you're sleeping because it still uses battery to light the screen when there's a notification.

NoLED lights up your screen with a different colored pixel depending on what type of message is new. It might use blue for gmail, purple for outlook email, etc.
I prefer to use BLN myself. Lights up the bottom row of buttons when I have a new email or message.

Exactly -> inefficient & the default colors made it looked quite ugly. I actually really like the way BLN Control makes my phone look when all 4 buttons at the bottom are lit up and the phone is off...
Now if only they could find a way to light up specific buttons for specific message types! I wouldn't have to add MissedIt! to my lock screen to quickly see what type of new message I have.
I thought I was done with this phone when I got my Note, but after using the Note for over a month and getting irritated with the lag, I fired up my Skyrocket and was so impressed with how fast and smooth it was, I immediately switched back to it. Battery life has been better than I remembered, too.

Multiple Notification Sounds for Same App and Notification?

Ok. So, I've done a bit of looking around, and it seems I'm looking for something a little strange. I was wondering if anyone would know how to set multiple notification sounds for the same notification; I want my phone to have, say, ten different notification sounds it will play at random, regardless of the notification, the app it came from, or who sent whatever it is my phone has just notified me of. For example, one text might come in, and it plays SOUND1, then another text comes in from the same person and it plays SOUND5. Then a FaceBook notification comes in, and it plays SOUND7.
Again, I'm not asking how to make separate notification sounds for different notifications- eg one for GMail, one for text, and one for FaceBook.
Thank you for looking into this and providing me with your knowledge.
I really don't know if you can do it, but give Tasker a go. It really works for this this type of stuff (and much more). Costs $6 though

Thanks for the idea, but it didn't work. At least now I can automate my phone.
good!
If anyone has any other ideas on how to do it, or even knows how to using Tasker that I have just missed, that would be really appreciated.
I am interested on the exactly the same feature. But it still doesn't exist (this or i don't know how to search properly). It's a shame that i can't create any app or script with my limited programming knowledges. If someone could help us with this, me and OP will be extremely grateful.
