Dear all gurus
I would like to make sure one thing,
Does the android usb sharing / or tethering support routing mode?
I need a private fix ip for enterprise users , and routing mode , NOT NAT mode.
This is a quite common user case , "3G/4G backup the adsl line"
For enterprise users ,
there is a network device (network gateway) attached a usb android data card,
the gateway also has an adsl fix line connected , when the fix line down ,
the usb data card will automatically dial-up to the 3G/4G network
However we need the usb interface is Routing Mode , NOT the "NAT mode" ,
'cause when the backup dialed into is a private VPN environment.
We feel the data card firms seems NOT willing / able to do this modification ??!!
There is also a key issue , when the data card dialed up ,
the mobile operator has to assign a fix private ip for that gateway device (RADIUS Op).
ps: the 4G environment is quite VERY differ than 3G , whenever the usb interface is "POWER provided"
the 4G network also is CONNECTed !
Any answers will be appreciate.
thanks !

guys,
i don't know if you'll agree with me but i think that the lack of wifi makes the treo miserable; especially that most mobile providers charge stupid money for data packages - and those that don't (i.e. vodafone) block all the ports besides port 80 and make their data plans useless anyway...
that's why i'd love to be able to use bluetooth PAN to connect to either PCs or BT access points to get internet and network connectivity...
is there any way of adding the network cards thing and bluetooth PAN drivers?
or perhaps - does that functionality come along with wm6.1?
Try to figure out the right names.. because my ROM is italian and I'm writing the settings in the english translation...
You can set up the internet access to be done through the BT in this way (WM6.1):
- pair you device with the PC.
- on the device open menu->programs->ActiveSync
- on the device ActiveSync: menu->connect through bluetooth
a new COM port is generated in the PC by the BT stack.
- on the PC ActiveSync 4.5 panel, open File->connection settings
- flag enable the wireless connection of device when connected with desktop"
- flag enable the "allow connection to one of the device: COMxx"
where COMxx is the com generated by the BT stack.
Disconnect the BT and reconnect.
You should have a new connection on the device..
Now go to the device settings->connections->Advanced tab Network Selection
change the internet connection from ISP to local network.
That's it... now you'll be able to navigate with the device through the BT

Hello This guide is made up from the knowledge i have build up from advice given on XDA and information on other sites.
I have found this very useful in my home and hope you do to.
First off, this guide explains everything you need to do to use your diamond as the access point to the internet at home for all devices. (PC's, PS3, XBOX360, Wii)
It is highly recommended that you have a unlimited data allowance!!!!! Otherwise you could have a hefty bill at the end of the month.
Right what you will need :
A WM6.1 Device (I used a Diamond) with an unlimited data allowance tariff,
A WiFi router (i have used an old router that was installed with Tiscali BB)
WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (please find this your self i will not provide it)
and some basic knowledge of networking on PC's and your devices.
Thats it. Please don't be put off by the networking side of things its really easy to do.
Right first off we need to get your diamond taking to your router.
switch on your router and let it do its thing for 2-4 mins
Connect your diamond to the wifi router by switching on your wifi in settings, communications on touchflow, when prompted, connect to your router and enter your network key.
THIS IS THE SAME PROCESS AS CONNECTING TO A WIFI HOTSPOT.
Its that simple.
Next switch off your wifi in settings, communications.
Install WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (Simple and stable)
once installed open WMWifiRouter and press connect.
This should then setup your phone to be used as a access point and connect to your wireless network all at once.
Once it says connected you can turn off your phones main screen by pressing the off switch at the top and put your phone where there is best signal! HSDPA is needed to get up 7.2mbps (little H in signal area)
Right now you need to setup your laptop or device to talk to the phone via your router!
So here are the settings you need to setup in either TCP/IP (manual connection) or a manual connection on your device (PS3, Wii, XBOX360).
I will use a laptops connection as a example because all you need to do is to copy the settings to another device using a different IP address.
If you use wifi or a hardwired connection, right click the telly with the wifi connection in the bottom right of the screen and click open network connections (XP only dont know for vista), Or if the telly is not displayed in the bottom righthand cornner of the task bar then click start, control panel, network connections.
Click on the connection you wish to use i.e local area connection or wireless network connection (you can setup both connections by repeating these steps on each connection)
this should bring up a general tab of this connection, click properties.
This will bring up another box with the network properties, all you need to do is manually enter your IP settings and DNS settings so double click on "internet protocol [TCP/IP]"
Another box appears.
Click "use the following IP address"
In IP address type "192.168.0.xxx" xxx being the unique 3 digit code of your choice, write this down for your firewall settings on other devices if you run a networked drive etc. Each new device will need its own unique 3 digit code ie PC = 192.168.0.100, XBOX360 = 192.168.0.200, Wii = 192.168.0.123 etc.
In Subnet mask type "255.255.255.0"
In Default gate way type "192.168.0.1
Now click "Use the following DNS server address"
In preferred DNS server type "192.168.0.1"
Thats it, press ok and ok on any other boxes still left open.
Your network device will rest your IP and DNS settings to the ones you have just entered, thus allowing you computer to access the mobiles phones internet connection via your router
On all your devices Manually setup all your connections using these settings and they will all use your mobile phone to connect to the internet.
Using DHCP to configure your network is not advised as its unreliable at finding your phones connection.
Now if you want to start using your phone as a phone again, open up WMWifiRouter again if its not already and click options Quit.
To get internet access on other devices via your phone again all you need to do is to start WMWifiRouter and press connect. Start using the internet!!!
If you wish to use your laptop on another hotspot, you will need to reset the TCP/IP settings back to automatic, otherwise it will not work.
Using this process sometimes causes the phone to disable its own internet connection, so a soft reset after exiting WMWifiRouter is recommended.
Have fun, im sorry if its all a little messy but i have never been very good at writing these guides.
If any modd wants to add or edit this post then please feel free. any persons wanting to add to this guide please do so.
Yes i know you can connect your phone to your laptop by USB, Bluetooth, but this method allows multiple devices to use the same phone to access the internet at the same time and via a access point at the highest possible speed, so games consoles can use it!!! Brilliant if you get a good HSDPA signal and live in the country.
Oh one last thing! if you are a youngster and wish to try this, please do so on other equipment, don't use your family's main router and laptop or PC unless its no longer in use!!!
Thank You
Hey Guys,
I need a little guidance from you.
I am developing an app that connects to a medical device(an RTOS) using a certain port over Androids Wi-Fi hotspot feature.
This is how the app works:
1) it has to find all connected network devices to the Phone.
2) ping and/or examine remote device/port to identify remote device.
3) if everything is fine get stuffs done using this connection.
I am facing problem with step 1, later steps are working fine.
My question is:
a) how do I find all Wi-Fi network devices connected to a phone?
I have read that we can connect up to 5 devices to a Wi-Fi hotspot. I can just ping 5 of them but knowing which IP address range is assigned to remote devices is important.
Since Wi-Fi works in a different layer, I cannot always rely on IP address. However given the fact that dnsmasq(andys own DHCP server) is always running, I came up with a possible solution.
Lookup arp cache in /proc. But its true that arp entries will timeout, which makes my solution unreliable at any given moment.
Here comes the other question,
b) can I ping Wi-Fi hotspot broadcast IP and wait for the remote devices to reply? I have read somewhere that network devices connected to Android hotspot won't reply back as expected, is it true?
I need to support general public who cannot root their device, so using /data is out of my option. Since I cannot re-design the remote RTOS device, sending beacon packets to Android is not an option too.
c) Is there any APIs that I can use directly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
how to find wi-fi hot spot connected devices??
I hav d same question as nixtalker, that how to find devices connected to our mobile hot-spot ??? is there any android apps??? plz reply.
Wifi Problem Solve
Hi buddy you can use wiifimanger class that call by Services class.
1)
WifiManager mWifiManager = (WifiManager) getSystemService(Context.WIFI_SERVICE);
WifiInfo mWifiInfo = mWifiManager.getConnectionInfo();
ConnectivityManager myConnManager = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
NetworkInfo myNetworkInfo = myConnManager.getNetworkInfo(ConnectivityManager.TYPE_WIFI);
getDeviceIpAddress();
this can give you wifi connected device IpAddresses.
Hi , so after I update my Lumia 710 , I got the new option of internet sharing , I tried it with a BlackBerry device and it just worked fine , on my laptop I tried to connect and the OS told me that I should turn on DHCP for Wireless networks , I did that and I just got connected and everything , my Windows7 network and sharing center shows me connected to the internet via this network , BUT still no internet access.
and ideas ?
thanks in advance

could be your provider? if not make sure you add the connection to your home network and not public or work.
Thanks for the reply,I made sure it is home network, but what do you mean by provider, can my provider block me from accessing the 3G connection from my laptop ? People used to wire their old mobiles to work as modems to connect, why would this be different ?, i think lm missing something obvious here.
Wired tethering (where the phone acts as a cellular modem for the PC) and wifi tethering (where the phone acts as a WiFi access point) are different, and require different software. The software for the latter will frequently include checks to see if your mobile operator permits tethering. USB modem tethering works differently and, assuming you configure the PC to connect in the ame way as the phone, is essentially indistinguishable.
Note that all of the gen1 Windows phones could also do USB tethering, although it was unofficial and sometimes a bit of a hack. I don't know if the Lumias have such a hack or not, but if they do, it should work even if the WiFi tethering doesn't.
Alternatively, since you're on a 710, you could (if you want) install a custom ROM. This would enable you to use WiFi tethering without the operator check, among many other cool hacks. Nobody has yet found a way to do high-privilege hacks on a stock Lumia ROM, though.
Also, in what way does your Internet connection not work? Do you receive an IP address? A DNS server? If you type "ipconfig /all" into the command line, what output do you get? (Please, just the lines about your wireless network adapter. Alternatively, do "ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt" to produce a text file, and then attach that to your post here.) If you type "ping google.com" does that work?
Thanks for the informative reply , it seems like it needed a restart for ping to work , Pinged Google successfully, for the browser it was my fault , I had an old proxy settings enabled , I just had to removed it and I'm posting here now using this exact connection
Hello Experts,
I am not a super expert but working on it on own interest basis.
My situation is,
I have one broadband connection thru ADSL+wireless router.
Normally my PC & other android devices at home are connected to wireless router of broadband.
Sometimes, this broadband connection fails for a couple of days.
I have one Android 6.0 mobile device which have unlimited data plan, but other android devices like mobile, Tabs does not have data connection.
During that time,
I create a hotspot & share to other wireless devices, but my PC does not connect until I connect thru USB tether.
Is it possible ??
To make a bridge in android 6.0 MM, between data connection & wi-fi ?? (I will connect it to wireless router with out hotspot), & set the DNS & gateway manually in the PC & wireless router.
What I have already done
Connected my mobile having data conn to win 10 PC with USB tether & PC is also connected to adsl router thru LAN.
Now,
I have checked the address of USB tether network IP (192.168.XX.XX), gateway (192.168.XX.XX) & DNS (192.168.XX.XX).
Then I created a bridge connection at PC between ADSL LAN & Tether Connection. Set above mentioned IP, gateway & DNS at created bridge connection.
Then I logged in into ADSL router,
Changed its IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.XX.XX ( matching with USB tether conn except last digit).
Then I connected all my android devices to ADSL router wireless network & manually set the DNS address to every network same as USB tether DNS.
profit :
Not much, But I am getting a strong wifi network signal from ADSL compared to mobile hotspot & all my devices connected to internet being at different places of home with different people.
My above query was to get rid of USB tether in this situation.
Thank you for reading all above & suggestions if any.

Yez and yes, search Hack5 in youtube and find the video relating to wifi pineapples( the bridge/router) and you will find everything you need , along with EasyTether pro(works fully tested to bypass tethering restrictions) . I dont know how the pineapple/router works but I know EasyTether uses adb to take and make a usb tethered connrection, then with a moderate-advanced setup(ie. wifi pineapple) you will be broadcasting wifi to any device you need. The only downside is you have to usb tethr to the pineapple at all timez to make a usable wifi,So in my opinikn best to buy anothr $45 a mnth plan especially 4 tethering, tho Im just now switching to a ISP for my internet it did the job, i even freelanced for awhile all remotely using the hotspot/created wifi/bridged connection.Hope that hellps brutha
Th
Tks...Bro...
I did it long before without spending a single penny.
I simply used network hack and bluffed the pc and other devices...It is working like charm....
