Anyone done it? The clear plastic lens cover over the actual camera lens has become quite scratched and I think it's starting to affect picture quality significantly, especially in lower light situations.

Do you think the camera lens touches whatever flat surface you pit a naked nexus s down on or is of slightly raised?

Actually it does not. Look at the back of your phone; there is a slightly raised lip around the camera lens. That lip makes contact with surfaces but the lens does not. Your lens must have been cracked by impact.
Actually it might...Its really f***ing hard to tell where my ghost armor ends and where the battery door starts ><
I think its slightly raised, noticed that the speaker is slightly raised as well, just to make them even with the bulging bottom.
Google Nexus S Body (Back) Skin
You can buy Best Skin Ever screen protector. I bought the back skin and it comes with camera lens skin, which is very easy to apply. As for the back skin, it may differ based on your skill set.
The lens is recessed.
Hello everybody,
I noteiced the HTC One S seems to lens itself to easily scratching the camera lens which is made of poly carbonate material I heard - which I believe to be very attractive to micro scratches.
I bought the phone second hand but since I got it I've always used a protective case which makes the camera no longer flush with a table or surface it's resting on.
Can anyone confirm if this will have a detrimental effect to photo quality / video quality?
Probably not, the lens cover will be too close to the lens for any of the micro scratches to actually be in focus/visible.
I just looked at my couple month old phone and see zero scratches. While the lens does protrude, the metal ring actually sticks out farther, so just resting it on a flat surface won't scratch it.
Oh man! I was wondering what material was used on the camera lens. Why couldn't it had been gorilla glass's corn whatever thing they use on the screen!? The HD7 had a lot of scratches on the camera. Surprisingly enough, none of that ever showed up on pics. I can't really tell the difference but maybe it could be clearer? Idk looks good for a phone's camera.
I don't want my baby's eye scratched up.
So its very obvious that the camera lens snags on everything and will end up scratched or broken.
I just put an Illumishield protector on the screen and I actually like it, as opposed to other screen protectors. I noticed no noticeable difference in image quality from the front cam when the protector is installed. Would some similar material work on the rear cam lens to keep it from getting all scratched up?
Can someone who knows a guy, who knows a guy, pass the message along to make a nickel sized circle of good quality PET film to stick to that huge camera lens?

As the LG G2's camera lens is sapphire, I wouldn't be surprised if the N5's camera glass is also sapphire, meaning the last thing you need to worry about is scratching or breaking it.

I hope you're right about sapphire, but until this is confirmed, I am gonna assume its cheap glass to go along with the cheap plastic.
I know some people say that the build quality is good, I personally think its a bit subpar, even compared to the N4.
I also realize that to cram these specs into a 400 dollar phone they have to cut corners somewhere.
The camera is underwhelming to begin with, so I am not counting on anything durable as far as the lens goes.
See my thread regarding the camera lens material. Well the camera lens cover. I don't think it's sapphire due to the shear size of it. The G2s is much smaller. Sapphire costs a lot.
Personally I'm going to buy a case so the lens cover is not sticking out miles to be scratched. Poor design choice for sure!!
Let us know what case you end up buying.
Slightly off topic, but for anyone concerned about this be aware that a camera lens protector needs to be severely scratched for it to affect your image quality. A thin scratch even through the center of the lens will not show up in photos.

I agree about the scratch resistance (if indeed the N5 lens glass cover is sapphire), but sapphire can break as easily as glass or even easier.
According to Corning (makers of gorilla glass) "Gorilla Glass requires about three times more force to break than sapphire after both materials have received similar wear and tear".
Is anyone else having trouble keeping the lens smudge free? All the time, I inadvertently touch the lens when grabbing the phone. I have to wipe the lens all the time or else I get hazy photos with halos around any lights. It seems the lens isn't smudge-resistant like my old S4 is. Very annoying.
How are you keeping the lens clean? Is there a invisibleshield type of product for cameras that resists fingerprints?
Hi everyone. I'd like to ask if somebody knows where I can find a protective film for the rear camera like the original one. It comes with a hole for the lens so it doesn't affect the quality of the pic. I think it's the same size of the GS5 model. Please let me know.
Thanks
Just curious: If it doesn't cover the lens, what good is it actually doing you?
I use this for my S6:

The full body skin covers the camera lens and hole. I tested it and it doesn't impact the quality of the photos. I would highly recommend this, you can't even tell its there and it is cut precise. Very impressed with best skins ever. I don't use the film for the front of the phone, I use a PET film for that. For the back of the phone and the lens I use the skin mentioned above. I think you have to buy the full body skin to get the camera protection, Good luck.
My S4 had a camera issue, but the good thing was that you could open it up and replace, which I did. For the S6 if it gets scratched or whatever, you can't do anything yourself.
